They used to mock the manhood of Ro
n Reagan ("Junior") for being a ballet dancer. But Junior is striking back on his leftist Air America radio show. He would not stand for Rush Limbaugh joking about Nancy Pelosi shaking from "Botox withdrawal," and even recycled a January routine in which Limbaugh joked to keep the birth rate down, "simply put pictures of Nancy Pelosi ... in every cheap motel room." Reagan Junior unloaded on Limbaugh being on thin ice for making erection jokes (click here for audio):
Limbaugh hasn't had a natural erection since the Nixon Administration; think he's compensating for something? Now, I wouldn't pick on him for any of this stuff, not his blubbiness, not his man-boobs, not his inability to have a natural erection -- none of that stuff -- to me, off limits until! until! -- Mr. Limbaugh, you turn that sort of gun on somebody else -- once you start doing that, you're fair game, fat boy. Absolutely, you jiggly pile of mess. You're just fair game, and you're going to get it, too. [Laughs] You'd better watch what you say, Limbaugh, because it can come back the other way.
Junior also strangely claimed that Pelosi looks pretty good for a grandma, but Limbaugh looks like "the unholy spawn of Tony Soprano and the Michelin Man."
He also jumped all over CNN analyst Alex Castellanos joking that "If Speaker Pelosi were still capable of human facial expression, she'd be embarrassed" by the "Nixon-like position" she's in. He said "This from a guy who looks like he just stepped out of a road production of [the Harvey Fierstein drag-queen musical] La Cage Aux Folles."

May 21, 2009 - 09:16 ET by fitzfongMaybe Junior's a little defensive because it's so obvious that with regard to Stretch Pelosi's "enhancements", he's having what she's having. With witty commentary such as this, is it any wonder the network is known as Dead Air Amerika.

May 20, 2009 - 11:22 ET by KC MulvilleIf Rush uses ridicule, he should expect ridicule in return. Agreed.
Again, the Founding Fathers created a place where the people, through their representatives, could conduct serious debate. It was intended to be a free exchange of ideas, always with respect and courtesy. It's called Congress. The senate was specifically designed to conduct serious, respectful debate.
Instead, our national "debate" is conducted through the media. See how well that's turned out ...

May 20, 2009 - 13:21 ET by balboaIt doesn't mean opponents should ignore the argument, but when anyone adds ridicule to a good argument, they lessen that argument and distract from their own point. So you should expect people to ignore the good.
If you go after Sykes, Maher, etc., you should go after them in the same context, if that makes sense.

May 20, 2009 - 15:26 ET by Cool Arrow"I hope his kidneys fail" - Wanda Sykes on Rush Limbaugh
I'm open to your contextual analysis on this statement, bal. I'm particularly interested in how the realization of such an event would not involve severe health problems for Mr. Limbaugh.

Here's what I would've said,
May 20, 2009 - 15:43 ET by balboaHere's what I would've said, had I been Rush: "Sorry, my kidneys will be around a long time...unlike Wanda's movie career."
or
"My kidneys will continue to function much like Wanda's acting career: serviceable, and in the background."
But make it in a light-hearted moment so that you can say, just like Wanda's defenders, "It was a joke, a jokey moment."
(I thought that Sykes' line was a little much, but it works when she said "He said he wants your policies to fail. Well I want his kidneys to fail." Still a bit rough, but funny use of fail in reference to what Rush said. )
→ A little much?
May 20, 2009 - 15:54 ET by Cool ArrowSo if I break out the jokes about Sickle Cell Anemia, it only rises to the level of "a little much"?
What if Rush comes back with that Sickle Cell joke? "A little much"?
I didn't ask you how you think Rush should have replied, I asked how Sykes' comment could be taken contextually, in some other light than stated.

See, you can't go with
May 20, 2009 - 16:11 ET by balboaSee, you can't go with sickle cell, because that's too specific to African Americans. Kidney failure isn't specific to white guys. If Rush had a personal connection to kidney failure, I'd have viewed it as much worse. But a random mention of kidney failure isn't AS bad. If Rush was having dialysis, that's really bad. But hanging the comment on the word "fail" ties it back to Rush's "fail" statement. She doesn't really want his kidneys to fail.
→ Why not bal?
May 20, 2009 - 16:15 ET by Cool ArrowKidney failure is too specific to those who ingest toxins. Don't forget the kidney failure comment immediately followed a joke about Rush's abuse of Oxycontin.

Well I shouldn't say "can't
May 20, 2009 - 16:25 ET by balboaWell I shouldn't say "can't go with sickle cell." It just doesn't seem to be on the same level as kidney failure. Just my opinion. Yes, drugs - kidney failure, but Rush never actually suffered from that, so it's not quite as bad, IMO.
→ Perfect analogy then
May 20, 2009 - 16:32 ET by Cool ArrowSince there's no evidence Wanda Sykes or Obama have suffered from Sickle Cell, the analogy would be perfect if Rush were to make it.
You're not yet dissuading me from seeing a parallel of hatred between Sykes' very real comment versus my hypothetical.

Your statement appears to
May 20, 2009 - 13:01 ET by mattmYour statement appears to be true on its face, but when you look at what is actually said about Rush compared to what others say about him, and put it in the context of whatever the issues of a particular discussion are, you will find that the vitriol, hate and childishness, etc. reside fully and completely on the Left.
For example. A few years back, Rush played the song My Boy Lollipop to intro his Barney Frank update. People used that to claim Rush is an anti-gay bigot. But when you look at the context and realize that this came about because Frank was in a bit of trouble over a gay prostitution ring being operated by a friend of his out of his office, any reasonable person would have to acknowledge that Rush's use of that song was perfectly consistent with the subject matter at hand (and was funny, too), and that the charges of bigotry were completely unfounded and amounted to nothing more than an attempt to shift the focus away from Barney's scandal.
One more thing, I don't think I ever heard Rush make a joke of hoping someone would die.

People really need to listen to the words and it what it pertains to...but that is never what the leftists do...their agenda is just attack the messenger...as they have forever when it comes to Rush...to no avail...if anything, it brings a bigger listening audience to Rush...
What fools the left are at times...
The big picture of the constant attacks on Rush is to get rid of him and conservative talk radio via the Fairness Doctrine, or whatever title and means they use to do so...and we all know it.

I have never liked Ron Reagan Jr....
May 20, 2009 - 14:00 ET by PrairieSkyEver...And this goes back all the way to '80, when President Reagan was running for his first term. The first time I remember seeing him, I thought he looked like a wimpy milquetoast, and didn't appear to resemble (I think) either one of his parents... certainly not his handsome father. First impressions in this case were right on target, because he has proven himself to be pretty much what I initially thought, if not worse.
While Reagan was president, Ron Jr., (along with his useless sister Patti) went out of his way to do and say things deliberately intended to challenge and embarrass his parents, and in particular, his father. As the years have gone by, Junior has continued this track, and in fact has gone completely off the deep end politcally, which is why the left loves him so and why he has a show on Air America. The leftists love the idea of having President Reagan's lefty son sticking his finger in the eye of conservatives and Republicans. Never mind the fact that Junior has absolutely nothing of any intelligence or substance to say...It just matters who his daddy was...Makes me sick...President Reagan is probably turning over in his grave...Nancy must be so proud...I feel sorry for both of them that the two children they had together, have turned out to be such zeros...
The fact that this inconsequential twit has used his airtime to go off on Rush is, I think, almost a form of flattery...Rush must clearly have gotten to this idiot (and others like him), to the point that Junior felt the need to attack Rush. I love it actually, and this says far more about Junior, than it does about Rush...
