The website Women on the Web (Wow-o-Wow) convened a little forum last Friday about whether Elizabeth Edwards is right to stay with her adulterous husband. Sesame Street creator Joan Ganz Cooney expressed a distaste for Elizabeth's creation of a spectacle that's clearly not coming from Oprah Winfrey or Larry King or other publicists of Elizabeth's new opus: "I think she is making a mistake writing a book about the affair and publicizing it. She must really hate him to decide to be so publicly punitive. And it’s got to be an embarrassment to their children, particularly their grown daughter. I would have preferred that they work their marriage problems out in private."
But actress Candice Bergen really lets her anger flow against the Other Woman in this narrative:
The sleaze in this is, of course, John, but Rielle Hunter — who came up with that ridiculous name herself by the bye; her name used to be something entirely other and she gives women a black eye. We all know the type, they make your hair go all weird and your teeth chatter. They are utterly amoral, without a shred of conscience and tough as tacks. But I seem to have veered off message here. I also, like Joan, question her writing a book but till I read some of it, I’ll hold off on blathering on about it. She is a remarkable woman and I am very sorry she has had so much to endure. Including a husband who is dumb enough to be sucked in by an ambitious [vulgar C-word for female genitals].
Days before, Candice Bergen and ABC Nightline co-anchor Cynthia McFadden has this exchange about sexy political figures:
CYNTHIA: Well, alright, I say Tony Blair for me. If he would just say he was wrong about the war in Iraq, I could really go for him. But I interviewed him a couple of years ago and I was just absolutely smitten. I guess I’m a little less so now.
CANDICE: I think everybody was having out-of-body experiences when that war was declared, and I don’t know that people can be held completely accountable for —
CYNTHIA: OK. Alright, so he has out-of-body exception...
Cynthia also found liberal actor Paul Newman sexy (before he died), and then came the predictable Obama love:
CYNTHIA: I think Barack Obama’s pretty damned sexy, too, I have to tell you.
CANDICE: Yes, and as far as a girl crush goes, Michelle Obama is just fantastic.
CYNTHIA: Isn’t she? She seems to be so comfortable in her own skin. She’s fantastic. And Shakira …

WOW!!!
May 16, 2009 - 11:40 ET by mizflame98Another hard-hiting peice of journalism from Murphy Brown.

Same play; same playbook
May 16, 2009 - 11:57 ET by GalvanicDid it ever occur to Bergen hat the "other woman" may have actually been in love with Edwards? Or that Edwards led her on with empty promises about hitching up after his wife died?
Why do Bergen and the media accept his version of the story; afterall, repeatedly lied to his wife and the public?
Was super-lawyer Edwards just "dumb," or was he devoid of morals?
But if Hunter is "amoral," what kind of character was Murphy Brown?
We watched the feminist elite rally around Bill Clinton and slander Lewinsky -- another pro-feminist guy who cheated on his feminist role-model wife. This is just the same page from the same playbook. The feminists will destroy the reputation of the 'other woman' to protect philandering men who spew out feminist rhetoric.

These '??????' are considered worthy sources of comments?
May 16, 2009 - 12:01 ET by Cape ConservativeThey are NOTHING but TRASH!!! Thanks, Tim for showing me that I'm not missing much by avoiding their blathering over the public airwaves! I find it quite offensive to hear people speak publicly about their 'sexual daydreams' as so many reporters have done recently. They are nothing more than silly schoolgirls grown up to be skanky women!
And the 'powers that be' want to enforce a Fairness Doctrine...BUT will it protect us from this kind of potty-mouthed trash talk!?!

"She is a remarkable woman

First, I feel bad that Ms. Edwards has health problems. Truly. Having said that, in regards to Bergan's blather, why is Ms. Edwards "remarkable"? Because she had the foresight to marry a successful legal shark who somehow got himself elected to one term as senator from NC? That he ran for president?
"So much to endure" - what has she had to endure that millions of women have had to endure without her resources and support? I am very sympathetic to Ms. Edwards' problems, but this is just typical celebrity nonsense - that just because someone is a celebrity their misfortunes make them somehow more noble and worthy than everyday non-celebrities.
Besides, Ms. Edwards has shown herself to be as brutally ambitious as her husband - to the point of hushing up his affair to preserve his viability in the race. I suspect this book is aimed, not at him, but to make herself look good and get another blast of sympathetic admiration.
Bergen is typical of the celebrity/media circle of admiration for each other.

Good Morning
May 16, 2009 - 12:33 ET by bigtimerGood Morning Chris...
Well you sure know I agree with your sentiments about Elizabeth...I have zilch for pity for her...zilch.
She was trying every trick in the trade to claw her way into the WH...and she thinks nobody noticed that.
Nothing to do with her health issues either...which by the way, they also used as campaign tactic in my opinion...along with their son's unfortunate death.
Plus I will never forget that set-up she did to Coulter on the Hardball show ...with Matthews in on this with her, did their best to sabotage her...talk about as low as you can get...let alone keeping quiet about her husbands cheating, she telling her husband to remain quiet and deny it too as long as possible..people need to remember she was/is a lawyer too if memory serves me correctly...and for anyone to think for one second she didn't run things when it came to John and the campaign...well what can I say.

If anything, this piece
May 16, 2009 - 12:24 ET by fitzfongIf anything, this piece illustrates what a journalistic lightweight Cynthia McFadden is. What trite, frivolous bimbo she is. What politician does she find "sexy"? Tony Blair if only he admits to being wrong about the war? Does she actually think that Tony Blair would consider shifting his position on the Iraq War just to spend a night with her? As for the Elizabeth/John/Rielle triangle: they're all sleazy.

My liberal acquaintances keep telling me that libs are more compassionate, more tolerant and more open-minded than conservatives. I'm still waiting for the factual evidence to prove that.

John's sexual preferences are his own business, Candy. How two people express their love for each other should not be open for public moralizing such as yours.

Dan Quayle HAS BEEN VINDICATED!
May 17, 2009 - 12:51 ET by Guy Arthur ThomasI believe now, with 40% of new births out of wedlock and that generation being impressionable children during "Murphy Brown" it appears Dan Quayle HAS BEEN VINDICATED!
You recently heard of the uncondemned "buy black" movement? Well since the LEFTIST social conscience hasn't spoken a word of condemnation...it's time to "BUY WHITE". And when you decide to use your money to only profit "your people" making sure your cars, houses, investments and even servers are "your people" and your money is being circulated to "your people" maybe then the blacks that are silent and refuse to condemn this will realize a lot of "their" money was coming from whites and is now gone.
