WaPo: It's Not A Depression, Just a 'Steep, But Orderly Decline'

Via James Taranto's Best of the Web Today, we find The Washington Post's Economy Watch blog is engaged in pro-Obama happy talk. Neil Irwin and Annys Shin report:

The April employment report, while dismal by conventional measures, is the strongest evidence yet that the recession is moderating; employers cut 539,000 jobs, the fewest since October. That, combined with other signs of economic progress lately, suggests that the chances of a Great Depression-style economic catastrophe have become more remote than they seemed just two months ago, and that forecasts that a turnaround will begin later in the year have a greater chance of coming true.

The recession has entered a new phase, pulling away from an economic abyss into a period of steep, but orderly, decline.

Now there's a phrase you can relax to: the economic decline is steep, but orderly. Taranto quipped:

Hmm, maybe that's catchier as an acronym: "Don't sweat it, it's just a Posbod."

Sounds like the typical

Sounds like the typical candy coating phrase that liberals love.

Pro-choice, gay, climate change, stimulus package, tolerance, diversity, affirmative action, enlightened, a procedure, mainstream media, Planned Parenthood, safe sex, politically correct, social justice, etc.

Nothing but a list of words used to candy coat their beliefs and agenda while hiding the true meanings.

"DumbAssity of Dope"

"..steep but orderly, decline."

Finally, somebody in the media reports the truth!  A steep decline... just as the administration ordered.

a period of steep, but orderly, decline.

Like a sliding board? Weeeeeeee, they are so fun.

I was wondering, when will the 500k jobs lost a month interfear with the illeagals that "are doing the jobs that Americans don't want to do"? Will the Gov. ever think that Americans are entitled to those jobs again? Or will we need amnesty in order to get Americans to fill these jobs?

Racist!!

Ahhh, you are clearly a racist. Why would you want to deprive those poor, pitiful illegals of their jobs? Don't you know Mexico, Central America, and South America need the funds sent home by the poor, pitiful illegals. Shame on you!

So when Obama loses in '12,

So when Obama loses in '12, will the media headlines be:

Obama gets orderly decline in votes

No doubt the decline in votes

Will mirror the decline in viewers of the old media, sorta like Coopers audiance.

To bad for liberals, that even they can be educated. To bad for us, that the liberals will try to control what they learn.

You can pick your nose but you can't pick the President

So when Obama loses in '12, . . .

Obama will NOT lose in '12. The MSM is already hard at work trying to pick the GOP candidate they can most easily smear in order to assure an Obama win. Mark my words.

2012

Between the media covering for the Obama administration, the liberals selecting the Republican candidate and the free reign with all the $$$ they need being given to ACORN I don't see how President Obama can lose.

Believe it or not the media coverage will get more biased because they know what happened to Carter when they didn't support him 250% and the liberal media will not allow that to happen again. Fox, talk radio and the internet will only make ACORN's job more difficult but I believe they are up to the task. Unless, of course, tea parties start popping up at every voting booth but it would still be a battle.

I dissagree

When the folks start suffering, hope and change will seem like a bad dream. Obama will not win in 12', and he wouldnt win today. A lot of traditional Americans helped get him elected, they know better now.

gc,

I won't argue against your optimism but I would feel a lot better if there was a legitimate Republican challenger.

Re challenger

Plenty of time for 2012. Early identification of a likely nominee just gives the democratics and their friends in the media more time to attack. I would like to see a 2012 primary slate with Sanford, Cantor, and Pawlenty at a minimum. No Newt, no Giuliani, no Huck, no Romney. We need an entirely new slate.

SW2001,

I absolutely agree with getting rid of the old guard as front people. However, I can't wait for the media to tell us how unprepared and inexperienced a young republican is for presidency.

I have mixed feelings about having an early leader. If they come out early and get attacked they have time to respond and time for the news to spread through other sources than the MSM which won't cover responses they can't spin. Coming out late, well we saw what happened to Governor Palin. However, there is no guarantee that the press would ever let up on a Republican so coming out early may not sate the media appetite for destruction in time to repair an image for election.

Sounds like the MSM...a

Sounds like the MSM...a steep orderly decline.

Strong and orderly process of disinformation

Isn't it wonderful to be unemployed and watch Oprah all day?  Isn't it comforting to know thqat unemployment is for your good and the country's good?  It postpones evil inflation that lurks after printing money for pals of obama.

I see Tim you have picked

I see Tim you have picked up on the Happy Talk MO as well. Isn't amazing that the MSM so willingly parrots the administration's line when their favor people are in power?  If unemployment going from 8.4 to 8.9% is good news, heaven help us from what they think is great news!  Oh yea, that's right, Obama won...

Obama has brought order ...

... even the recessions are orderly! What a guy!

I wonder when and if the

I wonder when and if the rose colored glasses are ever going to come off...

Der fuhrer has spoken

Steep but orderly, kind of like an evacuation from a burning plane that crash landed.

Pretzel Logic - these controtionists of fact are making it funner and funner to read the news - heck, the print media might just be saved with this kind of garbage.

          I guess

I guess it isn't a "depression" untill you get fired.

"... steep, but orderly,

"... steep, but orderly, decline."

Is he describing the Recession or a bowel movement?

Thank goodness there's no kaos while we're quickly tanking.

and half of the "improvement" is artificial

according to the article, half of the "new" jobs "created" were for hiring for the Census Dept. The same Dept Obama insisted on moving under his office's direct control. So once the hiring is over, this artificial slowdown will disappear. And after the Census is over, all those ACORN flunkies will be unemployed again, unless there's some sort of new organization created to keep them hired.

Let's not forget all the

Let's not forget all the employees of the Chrysler and GM dealers who also will be shortly unemployed in the next couple of months, there are more of them than the UAW workers at Chrysler and GM.
