As P.J. Gladnick reported, John Edwards spoke at Brown University this week and only one questioner in a room of 600 asked him even vaguely about how he could commit adultery while his wife was suffering from cancer in the middle of a presidential campaign. The media didn't exactly hop on that story. CBS News ran a little blog post, but it was vaguer than the original report. Igor Kossov's post was headlined "John Edwards Speaks on Poverty And Moral Standards."
He noted: "Of course, the elephant in the room was the revelation that did major harm Edwards’ reputation – his affair with campaign videographer Rielle Hunter." Kossov made no mention of the wife or her cancer.
The media is transparent in their desire to keep Edwards off the radar screen, or at least keep his outrageous behavior off the radar screen so Edwards can rehabilitate himself. Student reporters at the Brown Daily Herald would warm their hearts: their news report made no mention of the "moral standards" question, and their interview with Edwards completely avoided the issue. (Apparently, Edwards hopes for an Al Gore career trajectory.)
They spotlighted Edwards lecturing America about "where are we?" on global poverty. They will no doubt include these clips when they submit their resumes to the mainstream media. They know how to ignore news when it's politically damaging.
The Providence Journal related the "moral standards" exchange -- it's funny how no one can offer readers the fully quoted question -- and also passed along some of his socialist patter:
When a student asked him how one reconciles the need for environmental reform with the economic realities of a crippled economy, he said he thinks "it is a fundamentally stupid concept that in bad economic times we ought to continue doing the things that got us into bad economic times."
He said he supports President Obama in making it clear that help for the Big Three auto makers should be "directly tied to their willingness to transform the way they are producing cars."

Exactly...I see little by little the Big 3 along with some banks now are saying thanks but no thanks...to the govt. 'Nationalization' take-over...
It is going to be interesting to see what else happens on down the road with this Bail-Out $$$ and what was Private Enterprise..well, as much as they could be without all the restrictions/laws/regulations they have already piled upon them before-hand over the years.
Tough questions are
March 14, 2009 - 08:50 ET by ThisnThatTough questions are reserved for Republicans, not Dims, and only after the MSM has twisted the facts to suit their perspective.
As for moral standards -- that's a joke, right? When is the last time any democrat has stood up for moral standards? I can't think of a single time. Their legacy of tax cheats, abortions, queers, support for terrorists, etc, puts them at the back of the bus.
Oh, BTW -- did anyone catch last night's announcement? Obama has banned the term "enemy combatants" for terrorists caught on the battlefield. How's that for "moral standards", eh? Terrorists the world over no longer have to fear the U.S. Just wonderful.

March 14, 2009 - 09:13 ET by acumenIt is more surprising the morally bankrupt demedia didn't run a poll in the article about the John's speech showing most Americans 'feel' the stress from Mrs. Edward's declining condition was the actual culprit for the John's adultury -- how could Mrs. Edwards let the John down like that?
Considering the morally bankrupt condition of the establishment media I assume that wild-card-blame-game scenario will be saved for Mrs. Edward's obituary/the John's comeback announcement.
John Edwards speaking about "moral standards?"
March 14, 2009 - 10:52 ET by PrairieSkyThat's rich...I see that the media's efforts on the rehabilitation of John Edwards is rolling right along...I was beginning to wonder when we sould see (and/or hear) from this despicable, lying, adulterous hypocrite again...

They need a defender of women's rights with a typical liberal record of moral values,

Mornin' coco!
March 14, 2009 - 11:26 ET by PrairieSkyYou're on to something, there...Kennedy's are big shoes to fill...Now all Edwards has to do is to kill a passenger in his car while driving drunk, and the replacement would be complete...

Are you against poverty?
March 14, 2009 - 11:04 ET by KC MulvilleBut of course you are. So is everyone else.
This is the standard John Edwards trick. It's just posturing. It's easy to declare your allegiance to Goodness, and then wallow in stories of Evil. The hard part is not whether you hope to change things, but how. To stand on a podium and talk about moral standards is just empty posturing, as if the reason why we have poverty is that everyone just isn't trying hard enough. The problem with this liberal posturing is that it's inevitably followed by programs that don't work and waste tax dollars. It doesn't fix anything.
Everyone wants to "fix" poverty, but it's more than just caring. The American method is to guarantee, as much as we can, equal opportunity. We try to give everyone a chance to compete.
In our system, not everyone has the resources to become entrepreneurs. We need to give normal people a place to put in an honest day's work, to get a decent wage. In my opinion, that means manufacturing. We need to get private sector manufacturing back onto a strong track. Tell us how to do that, John Edwards, and maybe we'll be willing to listen.
Edwards no longer
March 14, 2009 - 16:18 ET by RR GOPEdwards no longer matters. His political career is pretty much finished unless somebody higher up appoints him to a position.
1. We Conservatives do not, will not, can not have dozens of surrogates on the MSM saying, "Well, Bristol Palin's personal life is not an issue...we need to focus on what the American people really care about...jobs, the economy...".
2. Edwards was not one of the top two darlings of the Leftists anyway. Very expendable.
3. The atheists, humanists and secular progressives who are the base of The One and Hillary don't care about such things anyway...unless it's a Republican of course.
4. The MSM will not spend any more time on the Edwards scandal, and they hardly did from what I remember anyway. They're still smarting from getting scooped by the National Enquirer.
Like Ted Kennedy and Chappaquiddick, though, this is something that is always there to keep him, at least, immobilized on the national political scene.
One of the 34% who thinks George W. Bush was a great President. One of the 61% who wants to bring back the stock and pillory (yep...approval for Congress now at 39%...do you believe that!?).

Edwards should go back to doing what he does best: Helping to drive health care costs into the stratosphere.

Anyone who would live in a mansion and spend time preaching about his love for the poor is contemptable.
Don't spend time worrying about Edwards, He's old news. Worry instead about the 535 members of congress who aren't all that different from Johnny boy!
