Oprah Winfrey's been resoundingly in the tank for Barack and Michelle Obama for several years now. On her show the other day, she touted how the Obamas would show the nation how to have family dinner together each night (as if they accomplished that on the campaign trail). On her show Friday, Oprah announced that someone else would share the cover of O Magazine: Michelle Obama, of course.
It's not going to be a hard-hitting story. Oprah's website promises:
Our new First Lady on the surprises of life in the White House ("If you want pie, there's pie! If something breaks, it's fixed. In an hour")...
For all the majesty of the White House, the First Lady has already infused it with a palpable ease; her presence makes the place feel open and approachable. When we sit down to talk, she seems as relaxed as she did when I first interviewed her and her husband in their Chicago apartment in 2004. "This room has the best light in the house," she tells me as we settle in, shoes off, on a comfortable sofa. "And there's pie here, too. The pie in the White House is dangerously good...."
The love came through in the questions:
Oprah: I had heart palpitations coming through the White House gate, recognizing that this really is now your home. It's the White House, and it's your home.
Michelle Obama: And it's a beautiful home. When you go out and come back, especially at night, with all the white lights on—it's just beautiful. We feel privileged, and we feel a responsibility to make it feel like the people's house. We have the good fortune of being able to sleep here, but this house belongs to America.

She understands her influence and is not afraid to use it. The Dems are afraid of Rush Limbaugh because they understand his influence. Her idea was that raising the minimum wage to something like $20 and hour with benefits would just LIFT everyone out of poverty. The stupidity of the premise just struck me to the core. Does she not get that there are things like CONSEQUENCES for this crap? Really? Why don't we just raise the minimum wage to $40.00/hr, health insurance, life insurance and a company car? How many people would lose their jobs if we did this? How many nursing homes would shut down? How many families wouldn't be able to afford home care for a loved one who needed it?
Of course, it wouldn't be an Oprah show if it didn't have some really pathetic examples of people who were trying to make a go of it on minimum wage or thereabouts. One family had four kids, the wife stayed at home, and the husband was a phlebotomist at a local hospital making $19,000/year. I guess I'm really evil, because all I could think of was what kind of an idiot creates four children when he knows his job will not support one? Could we not go to the root of the problem and encourage people to plan their lives according to their skill set, their willingness to get an education, their drive to work hard, etc. so that these kinds of things don't happen? If you really want to draw blood for a living, maybe four kids and a stay at home wife aren't in the cards for you!
Anyway, since then, I avert my eyes from all things Oprah, just like I do with all things Obama, including our beautiful Michelle with her excellent biceps.

Second, the outfit she has on flatters her skin and hair colors. As for the plastic belt, not my taste, but very hot right now. Personally, I think Oprah is the one who should have skipped the cover. That shirtwaist dress with the flaired A line, makes her look like she has a big booty. Which she does. So, it isn't helping. And don't even get me started on Oprah's new flowing curly hair. I also think MO has been making use of the WH gym, not just on the morning Obama work-out sessions, but maybe w/ a trainer? She is getting less bottom heavy and more top heavy, IMO.
