Obama Tells Congressional GOP To Turn Off Rush Limbaugh Show: Will Media Notice?

The Drudge Report blared the New York Post report by Charles Hurt that President Obama told the Republicans in Congress that they should go along and get along, and stop listening to Rush Limbaugh: "You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done."

Obama is clearly worried that Rush Limbaugh is going to be the GOP Speaker of the House, so to speak. Over at Radio Equalizer, talk-radio guru Brian Maloney is amused:

Beyond the absurdity of a Democrat barking orders at his political opposition, he's especially foolish to air his fear of Limbaugh and talk radio in a public setting. Now, what was long suspected by conservatives has been verified by the man himself.

The timing was no coincidence: after a rocky first week in office, the Obamists are also faced with a resurgent Fox News Channel, where ratings have been climbing since the moment he took office.

In particular, Hannity's Limbaugh interview, which took place in the latter's Florida studios, scored fantastic audience figures for the former's network. In overall viewers, Thursday's Hannity nearly trebled his MSNBC competition and almost doubled CNN's Larry King.

By telling Republicans to stop listening to Limbaugh, President Obama’s only singling out Limbaugh (as he’s often singled out Sean Hannity) as menaces to his cult of personality:

After a rough start for the Obamists this week, the last thing they want is a viable, effective opposition movement. Rush, Sean and others provide hope that America can be saved from this budding dictator and his cultist followers.

But as the new regime oversteps its bounds, it is far more likely to elevate talk hosts to heights they've never before seen, proving Obama is truly a rank amateur.

Will the Obama-loving media notice this signal that Obama is telling Republicans who shows they should listen to? Let’s imagine that Obama went to a black audience and suggested to them that if they wanted to make their way in America, they should stop listening to Al Sharpton’s radio show, because it’s too divisive. How long would the media ignore those remarks?

This is also a distinct signal that Obama could be serious about imposing a Censorship Doctrine on talk radio. White House correspondents who aren’t in the tank for Obama ought to be peppering White House spokesman Robert Gibbs with questions about this report.

Fear

It's funny that Obama fears Rush Limbaugh so much. Really, why does the president of the United States of America care so much about one radio show host? You would think Rush is Sara Palin!

I have been waiting about 4 hours......

to comment on this story. Really no need, you said it all. They had better hurry up with their "fairness crap" because Duh1 just called out a true conservative who has access to global airtime, 3 hours a day, five days a week (when not golfing ;)

Stock Tip - popcorn futures.

Just another quick thought........

Is Duh1 baiting Rush to expediate the "fairness crap"?

Is Duh1 baiting Rush to expediate[sic] the "fairness crap"?

How often does Rush get baited into something? Not often and when Rush has ALL WEEKEND to think about it, never.

Member, Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy

Very true, it may be that.....

Rush set him up.

Fairness Doctrine no longer needed

THE ONE has just told us all -- stop listening.

No one talks back to THE ONE -- he's told us himself "I won -- you lost"

Therefore, Fairness Doctrine no longer necessary.

Nice job on H & - C tonight Tim

I think that they could make a 2 hour show on media bias and it would only cover a small portion of the week's bias by the msm. Also they should have a blue dress award with the winner recieveing a free month of being Obama's intern. It is amazing his statement about Rush.Reminds me of his get in their face speech. The little Obamaize wouldnt last long in my neck of the woods.I guess he is for bipartisanship as long as you march to the beat of his music.

If

If Republicans had any guts they would tell Obama to first stop watching NBC/MSNBC, stop reading Daily Loon, stop reading Huff Crap, stop reading NY(in)Trouble and last but not least stop telling them what they can do or can't do.

Re:If

We defiantly don't want Barry to stop watching the MSM. Eventuality he will start to believe his own hype and hopefully this will be his downfall.

re: Re:If

When you think about it, it is amazing.

Hillary Clinton created the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy and Hussein brought it to fruition.

And it took not one word from Rush Limbaugh to help build it.

Newsflash: BARRKY BARKS at GOP!

BARRKY is a DEEPLY DISTURBED individual. Apparently, Rush is one of the things that DISTURBS him. Maybe its because he tells it like it is.

Those who lead cults are

Those who lead cults are generally disturbed individuals. it is what gives them the "Glow" that attracts the lesser minds.

Not to worry, Mr.

Not to worry, Mr. President, there are plenty of "even Republicans" who are willing and eager to "go along and get along," led by the media's Prodigal Maverick

  Gee, you would almost

Gee, you would almost think obama's confident swagger is just that, a confident swagger. Just an affectation. There's been some flashes of obama not being too patient with questions or situations he disagrees with. An experienced politician would have taken them in stride but being a rank amateur he shows his frustration. Since this is his first full time job he doesn't have the necessary coping skills most adults have learned through getting along at work. A serious meltdown during a crisis is not out of the realm of possibility. Also the messianic thing can lead to serious consquences. Hitler never felt pity for Germany as it was being bombed to rubble because he felt Germany deserved its fate because it had failed him. Point being, who and what do we have as President? What will his reaction be when, as will be the case eventually, the country no longer treats him as a messiah? Mr. Carter still carries the sting from the country's rebuke of his Presidency. At least though, Carter takes his frustation out on defensless nails. But considering the background of the current Whitehouse occupant, what mischief is he capable of?

MidAmerica

Agree. We haven't finished the first week yet and already the paint is coming off the new car. He has lost his cool more than once since taking office. He got annoyed with the reporters when he saundered into their little cubby hole in the WH, then he got snippy as we say down here at the meeting with the leaders of the Congress. He felt the need to tell everyone there "I won", as if they didn't know. Tells GOP to stop listening to Limbaugh in the form of warning. When all the tons of decisions, reports, briefings, crisis de jour begin to roll in on him he very well could cave. Up to now he has been acting like a politician. The whole world may get to see an American President melt down. Carter did make some very stupid decisions and comments. Does anyone forget him tellling us to "tighten our belts" when he managed to screw up the economy with each and every decision he made making it worse. It was our fault their diddling with the economy caused it goes skidding towards the edge of the cliff. Carter may actually lose the dubious title of being the worst President. It is so early into the game and already you can see the cracks forming.

What is sad is that the

What is sad is that the meglomaniacal like McCain will follow that advice.

McCain will do it just so he can regain the love he lost from the press. He will not stand up and fight, he will simply kow-tow to whatever Obama asks and then BEG to be brought back to his constituency - that of sunday morning talk show hosts.

Sadly, as I have said before, the Republican party is in full flight ala the UN forces in 1950 from the North Korean tanks. The professional politicians in the party will not stand and fight and will keep running until they reach a metaphorical Pusan Harbor.

But along the way, a small band of conservatives will peel off and make a stand. They must be supported. THose who keep running like McCain and Lindsy Graham need not bother showing up at the polls next time. They are done.

As an Arizona resident I will now vote for ANY candidate who runs against McCain two years from now. Even if he is a mass murderer.

Actually, I do not think

Actually, I do not think McCain listens. However, he will most certainly come out with a statement similar to Obama.

He threw Cunningham under the bus.

I bet if McCain ever writes a book about the 2008 campaign, he'll say the toughest part was not losing, but that he had to be critical of a democrat.

Rush ACTUALLY predicted this "WILD GUESS" ...

... on his Friday show:

So I think what's going to happen, Obama had a meeting with congressional leaders today, and it's a wild guess, but my assumption is that there's going to be an attempt made to separate elected Republicans in the House and Senate from their voters.

The effort's going to be, "Don't listen to what your voter says. It's not the way this is going to get done. We're not going to get things done up here unless we work together my way." That's what Obama is going to say.

http://www.rushlimba...

I heard it myself.

Well basically, that's

Well basically, that's Obama's idea of "uniting" people.

Everyone agrees with him and does things his way.

As he already told the Republicans...."I won."

So shut up and do as you're told.

John McCain and other "even Republicans" will be tripping over each other to be a part of the "stimulus" (read: Crap sandwich-Michelle Malkin) which is nothing more than a giant pork-and-payback bill, and whatever else His Worship wants to do.

But.....

Over the last 8 years, I thought it was "American" to voice distent? Now I'm confused as to what I'm suppose to do?

Naming Names

Obama is proving himself to be such a lightweight it's scary! First of all, you don't give personal recognition to those you dislike. You don't mention Rush Limbaugh's name! You have lackeys do that. What else do the clowns at MSNBC have to do? Show some class! You are the winner, an omnipotent presence to many! Obama has alliterated the millions who listen and will continue to listen to Rush and he has given more material for Rush to use against him--as if he needed any more! I detect an underlying lack of confidence in Obama-- a man who constantly needs his ego soothed. But there is a dangerous pretended self-confidence there too. He criticizes Rush and thinks it's perfectly fine because he won an election and has great charm Lord help us if he truly thinks this approach will work with our enemies because they will take him ( and us ) apart. Our enemies could care less that he is the first black president or that he gives a great speech or that his personal charm has won him an office. They must be giggling under their kufiyyas at what silly blunders this president is making. Lightweight? Better make that a...flyweight!

Which makes you respect W.

Which makes you respect W. all the more. The press went to war against Bush from day one and Bush neve flinched or wavered. Here's Obama, just days into his administration, whining like a little child about the comments from a small community of detractors. What a spoiled brat our new leader is turning out to be. And a great, fearlesss image he's projecting to our enemies. The media never gave Bush a break or "a honeymoon" with the possible exception of the brief period following 9/11. They ramped it up after 9/11 and became progressively hostile and unbearable following Ashcroft, the Patriot Act, Iraq, and Katrina. I never heard Bush whine about Air America -- as bad and puny as they are or the almost complete negative image of him portrayed in the entertainment media. And yet Bush survived despite 8 years of sneering, disrespectful coverage. Obama --- glass jaw.

go Rush

every man and woman who has a spine better stand up against this B.S. Rush speaks his mind and he did not say he hopes Obama fails he said I hope his POLICIES fail as most conservatives do not want socialism so we do need to act against this arroganse ..how can he and pelosi say "we won" to spite the republicans but us southerners can rise again....by the way I think Obama is mad becausr Bush was liked by us rednecks and hicks and RUSH

Rush indicated he could sum

Rush indicated he could sum up his views in four words:

I HOPE HE FAILS

Jer

and what do you think he's

and what do you think he's hoping that Obama fails at?

motherbelt... It appears

motherbelt...

It appears to me that Rush wants Obama to fail with regard to any policies which he views as "liberal" or are emblematic of liberalism, the success of which would make it less likely that a president with a conservative agenda would prevail in future elections. And, inasmuch as Rush believes he has accurately pegged Obama's ideology, and that he is the very embodiment of a left/liberal/socialist, so that his proposals and legislation will naturally and unconditionally reflect that philosophy, then he [Limbaugh]--for the good of the country and the advancement of conservatism--fervently hopes Obama fails.

Jer

jer, thanks for

fleshing that out. because.....

>>And, inasmuch as Rush believes he has accurately pegged Obama's ideology, and that he is the very embodiment of a left/liberal/socialist, so that his proposals and legislation will naturally and unconditionally reflect that philosophy,<<

based on the above statement i would also have to say that i hope bho fails at that. although, i have not decided with the same certainty as rush that your statement is true. hence, i still will say i hope bho succeeds...but i do admit that hope is conditional.

Well I thought you might be

Well I thought you might be interpreting it as wanting him to be a failed President, but we seem to agree on whant he meant.

Rush said (paraphrasing) that what Obama is proposing is the absorption by government of great swaths of the private sector...the banking, mortgage, auto and health care industries, among other things. That is what he wants Obama to fail at. A lot of us simply don't want to go down that road to socialism and government control; it has nothing to do with who gets elected next time.

I want Obama to succeed in the GWOT, in drawing down our troops in Iraq in a responsible way, etc. I have no wish to see him fail in that he harmed national security or made us a target for extremists. I do want to see him fail at implementing his socialist ideas.

Did you hear JUST THAT

Did you hear JUST THAT SNIPPET on MSNBC or CNN? Moron, what an absolute moron you are.

Why would any free market loving conservative want Obama to succeed when his version of success is an economy wholly owned by the government, aka the democrat party?

What about you? Did you want Iraq to fail? Did you want Afghanistan to fail? Did you want Bush to fail in his bid to reform social insecurity, etc? Something tells me you did.

Something tells me you are a

Something tells me you are a mental midget, Snuggles, and you neither know me, nor possess the intellectual capacity to understand my beliefs even if I were to present you with a five hundred word thesis explaining them in very simple language.

Now get the hell out of my face. You bore me, simpleton.

The Republicans in Congress

The Republicans in Congress ought to take this as encouragement, much like Mr. Darcy when he hears of Elizabeth Bennet's denial to Lady Catherine. Obama is saying that his agenda can be stopped. (He's also saying that nothing will get done like it's a bad thing.) If Obama is so confident in his position, Rush shouldn't even exist for him. God bless Rush.

Wow, I just googled "you

Wow, I just googled "you can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh" and got all of 14 results...guess we know.

Barack

Don't ever presume to tell any American citzen who to listen to or not to listen to!

Rush got your goat but you are arrogant, immature, and inexperienced and therefore an easy target which was his exact point. Not so long ago you were threatening Hannity with sending a man to take care of him. For the last 8 years everyone on the Left said it was Patriotic to be in opposition to the government, now it's not?

What are you going to do about all the 3rd world leaders and insurgents that are calling you names already?

We had the maverick** forced upon us. Then the maverick was trashed by the MSM with vicious articles claiming infidelity and worse. But we stood by him because we saw what was worse.

We had a good woman and fine governor whose only sin was being new to the national stage be viciously drug through the mud.

We had the MSM running full on offensive block for the neophyte. Refusing to ask or print anything questioning him while printing article after article hyping him into the sky.

If this was not planned, well GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY it should have been because IT WAS BRILLIANT.

And now the neophyte is trying to shut down the only voice we have left.

Obama's just being the fascist we all knew he was and is...

He hates the Constitution, including free speech, which he just swore to protect and defend.

He fears the people's voice.

He's unfolding just as expected: a bullying crybaby fascist who will not tolerate any one or thing that disagrees with him or challenges him.

Recall his complaint during the primaries to the FCC regarding the airing of a political ad in Indiana for Hillary Clinton.

Recall his multi-state campaign against the airing of the NRA's "Hunter" ad, when his campaign sent cease-and-desist orders to TV stations and he enlisted those goons in law enforcement in Missouri to intimidate people.

Recall that he said last September that Amercians get confused when the listen to the "wrong" talk-radio shows or TV networks.

Recall that last October, Michael Barone called his and his supporters' disdain and suppression of free speech "the coming thugocracy."

Sooner than he and his comrades -- the Democrats, liberals and leftists, including the advocacy/adversary media -- expect, Americans are going to rebel against this.

He keeps this up and 2010 will be a banner year for Republicans and conservaties being elected, IF they can figure out who they are, what they stand for and who's best qualified to lead them.

2 things I like about Obama

Wow two days and two things to like about Obama. First, he solves the illegal immigration problem by sending money to Mexico so they can abort babies so they won't be alive to illegally come to America.

Now he's acting like a winner. That is what the Republicans should have done from 2000 forward. None of this bipartisan bs. We won and we should have acted like winners and passed the laws and policies we wanted.

Something that bugs me

Sadly it will not matter

Sadly it will not matter how many people call or write. The leaders of the dims will ignore any and everything because as both Pelosi and Obama put it" we won". That is all the cover, all the excuse they need. It is 2 years till the mid terms. If they do this now they will have total control of the media and the message, no dissent allowed times are too serious will be thier excuse. The koolaid drinkers will agree not realizing that they are giving up thier right to dissent as well. The whole program will be sold as a temporary, emergency matter. I really hope they try in a way, because even the liberal judges on the Supeme Court are going to get real upset. You see, the Supreme Court thinks they are the keepers of what constitutes protected speech, not politicians. Self Intrest in maintaining thier own power will demand they jump down with both feet. The one thing I can't work out for sure, but will be an indicator of how dangerous Obama might be, is if he declares a national emergency like Lincoln did when he suspended Habeas Corpus and tries to go around or worse yet ignore the Supreme Court. For all you Bush Haters out there, he never ignored or went against a decision from that body. Keep a watchful eye out, we are in danger of losing one of our most cherished freedoms if the events start to remotely unfold as I have laid out.

Obama's Jim Jones Personality is Coming Out

He's telling us all to shut up and drink the Kool-Aid whether we like it or not.

I don't like Kool-Aid.

We need 'opposition reporters'.

What we should do is have someone post blog pages doctored to look exactly like the blaring headline of a major newspaper front page, and put the same spin on Obama that the media put on Bush when he was in office. For example, something like this:

"A CHILL WIND BLOWS THROUGH WASHINGTON"

Like the blushing bride who wakes up after the honeymoon only to find that the gentle soul she thought she married is actually a snarling wife-beater; reporters in Washington have come to the White House press rooms and gotten a chilling glimpse of how Obama really plans to deal with the press - with intimidation, deflection, bullying and threats.

On Thursday Jan 22, Obama's fawning media spin doctors were treated to an impromptu visit from the president-select. Only a day previous, Obama issued an 'executive order', declaring that lobbyists would be utterly banned from his administration. However, two of his appointees, the deputy defense secretary and a Pentagon nominee are both lobbyists.

One daring reporter questioned Obama about this during his impromptu visit, asking him to explain the obvious hypocrisy. Obama tried to dismiss it lightly at first, but when pressed again with the evidence that Obama is an oath-breaker barely one day into his term, the liberals' socialist golden boy lost his temper. He siezed the offending reporter by the shoulder, leaning in with an angry glare, and decreed that now was not the time for him to be asking questions.

Luckily for Obama, friendly members of his media cult came to the rescue, shouting that Obama is now 'Mr. President'.

Our President - an oath-breaker and a schoolyard bully who never grew up. On the one hand, he's not making a very splendid figure as our new 'king'. On the other hand, he's behaving exactly like a king is expected to behave - as a petty, small-minded tyrant.

A chill wind has settled over Washington this winter - the wind of media oppression and intimidation. Small wonder Obama went to the Senate and issued a warning to Republicans, telling them essentially that if they know what's good for them, they should not listen to Rush Limbaugh.

If Mr. Obama is afraid of getting a bloody nose from the media, then maybe he should crawl back to the Oval Office and hide under his desk. Because until he succeeds in tearing up the 1st amendment, he can expect more of the same...."

if he said what he was really thinking...

turn off "the rush limbaugh show"or i'll turn it off...via the fairness doctrine....

Part of me hopes PrezBo really does try to silence Rush...

Sean, Neal and the rest.

If the American people then stand idly by and allow this nation to turn into a fascist dictatorship, which is what they will be doing if they remain silent while PrezBo attempts to silence his main detractors, then as I see it, this republic is no-longer worth saving.

Note to Pres. Obama: The

Note to Pres. Obama: The Legislature represents the people. And Rush Limbaugh represents the opinions of many of the American people. And neither you nor any other government official have the right to tell Americans who they should listen to or what they should say. Time to put away your "childish things" (such as your precious Blackberry) and find yourself a copy of the U.S. Constitution. I think Robert Byrd could help you find one.

Obama's Marxist slip is already showing. Not to mention his political cowardice.

Don't Trvst the Legislatvre

Last time I checked the Dems with the RINOs controlled the legislatvre.

It's the Democrats in Action.

This reminds me of Al Gore, scolding the press for printing stories that didn't agree with his global warming meme. If you have no opposing opinions, you have the appearance the everyone agrees with you. Rush has made it perfectly clear that he hopes any socialist enterprises, understaken by Obama, fail. The Democrats have already said that much of what has happened, and will be happening in the near future, is all about perception. I'm sure, with the syncophant media, Americans can get the perception that everything is changing because of Obama. The question will always be, "Is it true?"

The Rocky Mountain Collegian: Illustrating Idiocy

reading comprehension test

Hi Tim,

I thought I'd help you out here a little, since you seem to not be so good at reading all the words that are there. If Obama had said "You can't listen to Rush Limbaugh," then you could accuse Obama of trying to institute some sort of Fairness Doctrine.

If Obama had said, "You can't listen to Rush Limbaugh, and get things done," then you could have an argument about Obama trying to cut off an important conservative thinker--you could accuse Obama of trying to paint Rush as far-right.

But what Obama said was "You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done."

Gosh, could that word "just" change the possible meaning? I think it does. In fact, what Obama said means that the Republicans/conservatives need to do more than just listen to Rush Limbaugh--they've got to convince people that they have the right answers.

And for that, they can't just rely on Rush Limbaugh--because if people were swayed by Rush Limbaugh, then Obama would not have been elected president. (And, as Obama recently reminded several people, he was elected over the objections of the Rush/Beck/Hannity/McCain crowd ( http://blogs.wsj.com... ).)

See, what he's saying is that the Republicans/conservatives can't just (what a useful word!) take Rush as an authority. They've got to do the work of coming up with useful suggestions; they can't just dig in their heels and be the party of no--which is what Rush Limbaugh seems to want them to become, judging from his statements about how he hopes Obama fails (if you hate Obama's policies, but you love America, you probably shouldn't hope he fails--you should hope that he changes his mind and succeeds with policies you think are better) and about how conservatives are supposed to bend over because Obama's father was black.

Those might be attention-getting things to say, they might be funny, but they don't really help articulate a conservative alternative to Obama's policies.

So, as Obama said, if conservative/Republican politicians want to be taken seriously they can't just (do you get it now, Tim? It's kind of an important word) listen to Rush--they've got to come up with ideas of their own.

What if Rush's ideas

What if Rush's ideas parallel their own?

"two wars, a planet in peril, the worst financial crisis in a century" - PEBO

they would still need to make clear those ideas

hi SRPwrd,

nothing I said--and nothing Obama said--precludes the idea that Rush's ideas match the Republican/conservative ideas.

All Obama said was that they would have to do more than just agree with Rush--they also have to make those ideas clear to the American people and make a case for why those ideas are better.

NN: A few points to ponder

while you're drinking the new king's kool-aid...

Would you be willing to apply your very own (har har) comments to the libs in Congress who over the past 8 years didn't JUST object to President Bush's agenda, but went way beyond, and in so doing made things worse! While the libs controlled congress, they blocked a number of Bush's initiatives. That was really open-minded of them, wasn't it?

So dissent was patriotic 8 years ago because Pelosi decreed it, but now it's not?

Limbaugh gets paid to broadcast his opinion. Check it out; it's called free speech -- and free enterprise...

Where is it written that everyone has to agree? Surely you can't point to Libs cooperating with those whose opinions differ from theirs, so what's your basis for acting piously indignant?

Where did Tim indicate he needed you "to help him out here"? What an insufferably condescending attitude! What would your reaction be if someone started their response to you that way?

constructive dissent

Hi JohnM,

it's called free speech -- and free enterprise

Oh, brother, see, this is what you and Tim get wrong: Obama didn't say "Rush needs to be taken off the air." (Remember, Obama doesn't support the Fairness Doctrine.) He didn't say that people should stop listening to Rush. You're right--and Obama would agree: Rush is on the air because of free speech and free enterprise, and God bless them both. You, me, Obama--there's no conflict over this part.

Ditto everything I said above about your point about everyone having to agree--I think disagreement is good. I never said I didn't like disagreement. And neither did Obama. Look at what he said again: where does he say that disagreement is bad? Again, we--you, me, Obama, agree.

Now as for my being rude to Tim, you're right, and we agree on that: I was rude--but I'm also right, because Tim does need help in his reading comprehension, because he missed something in the text.

(Now, here's another thing we probably differ on: you asked how I would feel if someone were rude to me--oh boy, brother, I've been here for weeks, and people have attacked me in all sorts of rude ways, and I don't care. In fact, if someone were to point out that I was wrong, and did so rudely, I wouldn't much mind--I think it's good that we disagree here, and I think it's good that different people are here to correct each other. And if something comes off rude--well, sometimes people should be more civil, and sometimes people should just stop whining about their feelings getting hurt. Not that Tim was whining--and until Tim complains about my tone, I'm going to assume he's butch enough not to let my words hurt.)

Now, for the part where we really need to work things out: do I think dissent is patriotic? I do, and I've seen no evidence that Obama disagrees with you and me on that subject. All he said here was that you need to do more than simply say "No!"--you need to say why you disagree, and is possible, you should say what your better alternative is. Now, did liberals say "No!" to a lot of things that Bush did? Yes, but many of those "No!"s were also accompanied by reasons and alternatives. (However, I go onto liberal websites, where those reasons and alternatives got discussed.)

Wow, Squeers could almost give Ashlee

Nick

Thank you for interputing what Obama said for everyone.

"In fact, what Obama said means that the Republicans/conservatives need to do more than just listen to Rush Limbaugh--they've got to convince people that they have the right answers."

But what Obama said was "You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done."

See first place it shows arrogance. He is Potus not God.You'll have to remind me when Bush told Dem leaders they cant just listen to Kos Kids.

Second it leaves that open to alot of interpretation.Maybe Obama is a Rush fan and the reference was to himself.Naaa it would of been you cant just listen to Bill Ayers then.Maybe he thinks they should just listen to him.

After all Obama

"I won," he said, according to aides who were briefed on the meeting. "I will trump you on that."

The response was to the objection by Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.) to the president's proposal to increase benefits for low-income workers who don't owe federal income taxes.

Nice job on the bipartisan effort by the chosen one.

he is not saying you have to stop listening to Rush

hi well99,

Nobody is telling anybody what they can or cannot listen to. You're right--he's POTUS, not your dad. (He's not saying "You can't listen to that racket in my house!") That was my point in my first post: that's the importance of the word just in what he said.

"You can't just listen to Rush" means you can still listen to Rush, but that you have to do more than just listen to Rush.

Do you see what I mean there?

As for the "I win" commment--you know, he did: McCain/Palin said he's offering tax cuts for people who don't pay taxes; Obama said I'm offering tax cuts for people who pay payroll taxes--and the American people agreed with Obama.

I think you might be missing the point of "bi-partisanship"--it doesn't mean Obama will roll over on every Republican point, it means that he's willing to listen to any good ideas the Republicans have. Which means that they can't just listen to Rush, they've got to start articulating their disagreements in a constructive way (which means offering reasons for why they disagree or offering alternatives).

Nick

"President Obama warned Republicans on Capitol Hill today that they need to quit listening to radio king Rush Limbaugh if they want to get along with Democrats and the new administration.

"You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done," he told top GOP leaders, whom he had invited to the White House to discuss his nearly $1 trillion stimulus package."

"One White House official confirmed the comment but said he was simply trying to make a larger point about bipartisan efforts.

"There are big things that unify Republicans and Democrats," the official said. "We shouldn't let partisan politics derail what are very important things that need to get done."

See what I mean.It is from the NY Post

As far as the I won statement.(Oh I did notice the media act like he won.Personally I think it is a msm trick.Just keep that between the two of us.)

"Not that Obama was gloating. He was just explaining that he aims to get his way on stimulus package and all other legislation, sources said, noting his unrivaled one-party control of both congressional chambers."

Gee doesnt sound like bipartisan unless you consider that everyone will do things his way only is considered bipartisan.

what evidence other than that line?

hi well,

Yeah, I see where that journalist says that Obama warned Republicans not to listen to Rush, but I don't see where Obama said that. Seriously, Obama said:

"You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done."

That is the evidence. The journalist doesn't enumerate any other evidence, he just claims that Obama told people to stop listening to Rush--but that's not what that quote means (as I've demonstrated by, you know, reading the quote and pointing out that the word "just" is important).

And this gets us to the "I win" comment: Rush says that we shouldn't go along with Obama's plans, and Republicans can agree with Rush, but the American people voted by 7 points to try Obama's way--they were not swayed by Rush and other conservative talkingheads calling Obama's tax cuts welfare, so the Republicans can't merely retreat to that position (as they did when talking to Obama), since that position has already lost its value in the free market of ideas. (Do you see what I mean? The Republicans said "we don't want these tax cuts," and Obama said, "I was elected to perform these tax cuts." He's not so much throwing his weight around and being tyrranical--he's saying he's going to try to keep his campaign promises.)

Nick

"You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done."

Amm what were your sources for this?

"In fact, what Obama said means that the Republicans/conservatives need to do more than just listen to Rush Limbaugh--they've got to convince people that they have the right answers."

As far as this

And this gets us to the "I win" comment:

"He's not so much throwing his weight around and being tyrranical--he's saying he's going to try to keep his campaign promises.)"

Actually he is being a tyrant.Yes he won but that doesnt mean that all the opposition will kowtow to him.Speaking of campaign promises check this link out. http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2009/01/24/brown-bashes-obama-dont-make-ethics-rules-you-wont-follow

Oh I am still trying to firgure out about his change promises. With all those Clintinites now in his cabinet.

dude!

my source for this was the article at the NY Post that you quoted, and the article that Tim Graham based his post here on! I can't believe you challenged me on something that you yourself provided.

As for change, I think he just passed an order to close Gitmo--and it's his 4th day! Let's see what other change he's got.

Also, I'll advance to you the same bet I made with bigtimer--if Obama comes out and supports the Fairness Doctrine in the next four years, I owe you a drink--and if he doesn't, you'll owe me a drink. Is it a bet?

Nick

"In fact, what Obama said means that the Republicans/conservatives need to do more than just listen to Rush Limbaugh--they've got to convince people that they have the right answers."<<<Nick

This is the part where I questioned your source. It isnt in the NY Post. This was Obama's statement

"You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done"

"As for change, I think he just passed an order to close Gitmo--and it's his 4th day! Let's see what other change he's got."

Oh like the change of his mind about bringing in lobbyist.

As far as the bet.Well your on.Be warned I like my coffee black and not that Starbucks crap.I like the good stuff you get at diners and truck stops.

it's called reading

See, Obama said something, Tim read it one way--I pointed out that Tim could only interpret it that way if he missed one crucial word, and I gave a different reading of what Obama said. The difference being: I actually paid attention to what Obama said.

As for the ethics/lobbyist thing, yeah, I heard that too. I don't know the full story, but it's disappointing.

Nick

You were off the mark(As far as your interpetation of what Obama meant).Thats okay. You're allowed to be wrong.I am even wrong every couple of decades.Just remember one thing.Coffee black. When you lose the bet.

nn... Typical, expected

nn...

Typical, expected post from you.

If you think for one second that the Fairness Doctor isn't coming on down the road to attempt to shut the likes of Rush and others up you are in La-La-Land...it will be, they will change it to some other cutesy name, Save America First of some such....but they will, plus they will try to slip it into some huge omnibus bill...the RINOs like McC will say...I see nothing....of course.

Btw...I caould give a rats rear how many pts O/Soros won by...they DO NOT SPEAK for all of us...whatsoever, in any way, shape or form...and some conservatives had better let it be known...loud and clear that they are against a helluva a lot of O-Teams plans...or they shall lose too in up-coming elections.

Besides everything else McC did to stick it to real conservatives, (forever by the way) let alone on the campaign trail, what really did him in was his big fake production of halting his campaign and going back to the Senate to vote FOR the bail-out bill....he started sinking fast then in the polls and it never stopped...

Gee...I wonder why?

It was the very last wisp of a straw he left for a helluva lot of voters who were going to look the other way, hold their noses and vote the ticket anyway...

Then to really rub it in, on election night he has to stick the sword all the way through and tell us all he was going to reach out and work with O as we all should...

MY A$$ if we should....ever.

O is a pure socialist, an empty suit taking orders from others because he doesn't have a clue to what he is doing, and I'm not even going to go into all the illegal campaign $$$ he received, we'll never know for sure, now will we, thanks to the msm not looking. or demanding to seek any info...and of course we can't forget good ol' McC/Feingold now can we....

Yeah, I know you'll carry on with your usual response...

Have at it.

the number of people who voted in the election

but did NOT vote for bho is greater than the entire (singly, not collectively ) populations of all but the 23 largest nations in the world. so nn, what i get from that is there are 140 million americans who did not share bho's "vision" that he is responsible to just as much as he is to those who did vote for him. and that number is greater than the populations of all but the populations of the 9 most populous nations on the earth. we are defintely a nation divided and a terse "we won" is not a good answer.

"Here comes the orator! With his flood of words, and his drop of reason" Ben Franklin

Ecclesiastes 10:2 The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left

fair enough

fair point, porpoiseboy. I, for one, don't think Obama is telling the House Republicans to get to the back of the bus. I think he's telling them to put up or shut up--i.e., to come up with arguments and present them clearly. I mean, have you looked at the NRCC's report on the Economy that they recently put up? ( http://www.nrcc.org/... ) In it, they claim that the economy is growing (ha!) thanks to their tax cuts. Now, the tax cuts they propose might be a good idea, but they don't have any evidence to support that since the economy isn't growing. They need new arguments, new evidence, or new positions. (Frankly, I think for 8 years now small government and fiscal conservatives have been beaten badly by the Bush administration, which enlarged the government and ran a big deficit, and I think they need to return to those conservative values that present a real choice--I mean, the economy isn't going to be fixed by banning abortion or gay marriage. (In fact, banning gay marriage is bad for the economy--think of all the catering jobs!))

fair enough nn.....

but what i hear you saying ( you may deny it ) is that republicans need to not JUST LISTEN to limbaugh, they need to become true conservatives like him in their actions....'cause even you must admit the govt isn't going to get any smaller nor spend any less $$$$ under a bho administration.

"Here comes the orator! With his flood of words, and his drop of reason" Ben Franklin

Ecclesiastes 10:2 The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left

that works for me

hi pb,

that's certainly one way to take what I said--although I think we might differ on the definition of "true conservative"--heck, everyone here might differ on that.

Actually, I don't think Limbaugh is a good example of what the Republicans should do, though he may have good ideas; what I'd really like to see is the conservatives work out their ideas and present them in a way to make people understand where their ideas are coming from. (Although, this may come from my experience here: a few times I've asked people to explain themselves, and while some did, others made it clear that they weren't interested in defending their political positions--which makes it really hard for them, I think, to convince people that they're right. We need a conservative party in America that is able to articulate its vision of the future and not just say "no." (Although, don't misunderstand me--I think it's very important to say "no" too!))

I agree with your right to disagree

hey bt,

what, no small-talk--"what's the weather, how are the kids?"

But we could argue (hell, have argued) all day over issues, so maybe we should get down to brass-tacks. Suprisingly, however, there's a lot of agreement between us: first, neither of us supports the Fairness Doctrine--and here's what I'll say about the Fairness Doctrine: if, anytime in his first term, Obama supports the Fairness Doctrine (under whatever name), I'll owe you a drink. (But I'll tell you another thing, I'm not losing any sleep over this bet. Why is that? Because I don't know any progressives, liberals, or democrats who care about this. As far as I can tell, you guys are fighting windmills over this issue--which is not me saying you should relax 100%: I think you've got the right idea about being vigilant.)

Second, neither of us believes that election by the majority means that the elected official gets a free pass on everything--I believe (as I think you do) in informed dissent. Which is why I come here--to help inform your dissent!

So, as to the point at hand, I think the word "just" is important in what Obama said, and I've never heard anyone say that they wanted the Fairness Doctrine (none of my elected officials, none of my friends, none of the liberal news-anchors, none of the liberal websites that I go to and take seriously). If you think this is the opening salvo in the war for the Fairness Doctrine, well, in 4 years I may owe you a drink, but I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.

Peace.

nn.... Not my problem you

nn....

Not my problem you haven't heard any on the left say they were for the reinstatement of the Fairness Doctrine...guess they are using the acronym MORA now...(told you they would change the title of the Bill)...read here and here.

I have heard plenty say they are for this...O can pretend, I do mean pretend he isn't for it all he wants, just like he will other things that will be passed, you think he would veto this....

Don't hold your breath either....and get ready to mix me a drink.

The GOP is making a big

The GOP is making a big mistake.

They should fall back and regroup, let THE ONE have his way because, in the long, he and his administration will be its own worst enemy.

His administration will be filled with incompetents from Obama on down who have shown that they are more interested in themselves than in the country.

Thin skin Barry

The pres has a notoriously thin skin, so this should make for a fun four years. If the GOP wants to have any value at all, they need to start listening to Rush.

When you put the clowns in charge, don't be surprised when a circus breaks out.

All hail to the chief---schmuck

Barack hasn't been in his high-chair a week and he's already dumping on Rush, on a Friday. Rush's message must be getting through.

If I'm correct Obama made these statements to a group of Republicans, probably thinking he can peel off a few by allowing them close to the accelerator pedal of power, dazzle'em you know. It appears McCain is on board, who would have thought?

If I'm not mistaken Bush never attempted to dictate anyone's listening habits, wasn't he into peoples freedoms.

Paul Shanklen and Rush will now have some additional ammunition for parody and I hope it will be the impetus to put Barack under his desk.

Electing Barack Obama was a mistake!!!!!!

Obama and Rush.

Sheesh.

but, i'm going to be fair ... i sincerely hope he will get every bit as much of the same treatment george w. got when he became president.

Obama knows not of what he speaks on any matter.

This guy is not my leader and if I am correct nearly half the country feels that way. What they call a mandate is a majority by a hair. Rush will sink him and there is nothing he or the libs can do about it, for if they want to cause a real stir they should play with the fairness doctrine. That's when they will get the message loud and clear. In the interim the minority needs to sit on their hands and no vote everything that comes down the pike. Let the libs hang on their record, not hang us with it.

Great article on Obama's remarks...thank you Brian Malone.

When I saw this on Drudgereport last night I was shivering in my boots. However, Malone made me see Obama as a spoiled child who was threatened by the big kids on the block. The big kids being Limbaugh and Hannity.

Not a wise political move as it cracked his shrewd political veneer and exposed him for the rookie that he is.

Sniggering....

Good ideas-----

I believe it was Wednesday, Rush had a caller who felt Rush was too divisive, that he was not giving Obama a fair chance. The caller felt Rush had too much negative influence and wasn't helping the downtrodden. Rush went on one of his wonderful rants, he's at his best when he's mad. Rush told the caller, he (Rush), didn't have any power but the power of ideas. He went on to say, "I can't raise taxes, or do all the things that destroy initiative, or make America less safe, I'm a talk show host with ideas." Aforementioned not actual quote.

Yeah, Rush is just a talk show host with ideas that scare the Hell out of Barack....

I wouldn't really expect Congressmen to listen to talk radio anyway.
