Rev. Jeremiah Wright returned to the pulpit of Trinity United Church of Christ on Sunday, reports Manya Brachear of the Chicago Tribune. Will the networks notice that Wright suggested ABC and CNN were "the gates of Hell"? They might enjoy Wright suggesting Sean Hannity and Bill O’Reilly were Satan, but he also listed the Chicago newspapers and Time magazine. He also mocked Elizabeth Hasselbeck as factually challenged – even as he insisted that December 7 was the day the United States dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima instead of Pearl Harbor Day.
"Jesus said upon this rock I will build--listen to the promise--my church," he said. "And the gates of Hell--listen to the promise--the gates of Hell--neither ABC nor CNN--the gates of Hell--neither Hannity nor O'Reilly--the gates of Hell--neither Time, Time magazine, Chicago Sun Times, Chicago Tribune ... the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it. Nothing will be impossible with God."
At the 11 a.m. service, Wright belittled "baby milk believers," who, he said, suffer a delusion that politics don't belong in the pulpit. He pointed out that "Luke the evangelist, not Wright the radical" lambasted the oppressive policies of the Roman government in the Gospel story that recounts Jesus' life.
"Any preacher who dares to point out the simple ugly facts found in every field imaginable is demonized as volatile, controversial, incendiary, inflammatory, anti-American and radical," Wright said, taking time out to note the thousands of Japanese civilians who died 67 years to the day when American warplane dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. (Actually, Dec. 7 marks the day when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor.)
The U.S. bombed Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, so Wright was wrong about the day, and of course, wrong about the number of years as well. But Wright was on a roll:
He implied that his previous use of derogatory language to describe Italians in a past sermon referred to the Roman oppression Luke condemned.
"Emperor Augustus in Rome--that's in Italy, dizzy blond on the View," Wright said, presumably referring to conservative television personality Elisabeth Hasselback, who has railed about Wright on the ABC daytime talk show.
Wright also thanked an employee at Fox News -- "a saint in Caesar's household" -- who advised him to cancel his October speaking engagements because the network had an advance copy of his schedule.
But if modern-day Italians can be mocked for what the Roman Empire did, does he think it's okay to say derogatory things about African-Americans over what the Africans did 2,000 years ago? That's a very odd line of argument to justify ethnic attacks on Italians and their "garlic noses." Factually speaking, Augustus Caesar ruled Rome when Jesus was born, but not when he died. Tiberius was the emperor at that time.
I would expect the media elite will try to ignore Wright as non-news since Barack Obama left the church. But where is the media in asking which church Obama will pick in Washington?

December 8, 2008 - 17:47 ET by misterbee241The American Revolution started in the pulpits of the churches in the colonies, the beginning of the end of slavery started in the pulpits, the civil rights movement started in the pulpits.
I guess we'll never see anything like those again, because pastors are too afraid to speak up and by doing so, possibly lose their tax exempt status.
Heck, most of them dont even preach the gospel any more because of cowardice, so it's no wonder they'll refuse to take a political stand.

The title of "reverend"
December 8, 2008 - 10:57 ET by bradbenj5952The title of "reverend" should never be applied to any sinner, "He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name." Psalms 111:9 Though there are many examples of people in scripture reverencing God and his sanctuary - as well as kings and other persons of dignity - none are ever called "Reverend". Exceptions are bishop, deacon, and apostle and there are no uses in scripture (that I know of) of such titles preceding someone's name. For example, "Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus," 2 Timothy 1:1. Religious titles such as Father, Master, etc. are explicitly forbidden. "And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ." Matthew 23:9&10

Rev. Wright...Christianity?
December 8, 2008 - 08:44 ET by The Smokin FrogI've listened a lot to to Rev. Wright. It is hard to tell if he believes in Christianity or not. But what he preaches is hate. He, like Obama, Jesse Jackson and a host of others use Christian terms and redefine them, applying them to citizenship. There are also far too many ministers that teach our works count for salvation. Most of America believes this.
But Jesus said the Scriptures are about Him, not what we do for Him. Christianity is about Christ exclusively. He came to save us from our sins. I have not heard too much of the Christian message from Wright or most ministers for that matter. They much prefer to explain how we are to make God happy, and various ways of curing social ills. Good things to be sure, just not preaching Christ crucified for sinners. How we serve each other in this live varies from day to day, and may look pretty bad sometimes. But we have forgiveness from God, peace with God, because of the 'work' of Christ on our behalf.
I wish ministers would recover the Gospel of Jesus Christ and give us dying people relief, forgiveness for our sins, instead of another work program that won't save us.
Maybe Jeremiah Wright will one day believe this. One could only hope.
Trinity UCC is not a church
December 8, 2008 - 12:11 ET by HockeyKidTrinity UCC is not a church of Christianity. It is a church of Black Liberation Theology. If you don't know the difference, do some reading. It is an outgrowth from Liberation Theology, which was a non-religion designed by communist leaders to provide a "theology" that would appeal to down-trodden people of their countries without providing a savior outside the state itself.
The UCC in general is a very liberal body that allows individual churches to adopt pretty much any theology they like, as long as they mention "Jesus Christ" somewhere in there. I've heard many teachings in their sermons that can only be described as the skin of the truth stuffed with a lie. And I know the denomination--my grandfather was instrumental in its founding in 1957. I have fled.

December 8, 2008 - 14:24 ET by Mike BrattonAnd not to disagree, but no, it is not difficult to ascertain what Wright believes. Since he has actively preached an anti-Christian and pseudo-Christian "gospel," since he has built and operated a church that advances ethnocentric liberation theology in the stead of the good news of Jesus Christ, and since (as you identifiy, Frog) Wright spews hate, we must take his words and actions at face value and understand that, by his own admission, he is not a Christian.
Just as his follower Obama, by his own admission, is not a Christian.
I pray that both Wright and Obama--in addition to the scores of people who share, and have been influened negatively by, their beliefs and statements--will soon come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. As a pastor of mine once said, there isn't anything wrong with them that a good does of salvation couldn't fix.

Yes, I've done plenty of reading
December 8, 2008 - 14:54 ET by The Smokin FrogYes, I've done plenty of reading about Black Liberation Theology and I also know all about James H. Cone, Wright's patron saint. Clearly these teachings are not Christianity. As a Christian I must condemn the teaching. But a lot of Christians believe many things that I would say are not Christian. Most of what passes for Christianity today, isn't. Most churches barely mention Christ, after all they know about Him already, so they move on. Most prefer to hear about how to improve their marriage or something else that has no salvific value. Most speak and teach exclusively about the Christian, not the Christ. They have been given a bad bill of goods. I would not say they were not Christians. I would say I don't know, but they are clearly trapped in a lie. We are all sinners after all and not God. And Christians are instructed to pray for their enemies rather than return their hate to them.

WWJD?
December 9, 2008 - 22:36 ET by KimberlyYou bring up an interesting point, because liberal/leftist believers are always quick to use the phrase "What Would Jesus Do?" when someone in a religious setting says or does something offensive to the left/liberals (rapidly becoming the same thing). My answer to them, 100% of the time: "He'd kick your {MF} {donkeys} to the curb and tell you to get out of His Father's House, because nobody preached more about Hell, damnation, and the pornographic lifestyle of too many so-called 'tolerant' people and false christians than Jesus Christ. Jesus preached on Hell and the coming judgment of the damned more than all other non-divine figures in the Bible combined. If you don't understand that, you'd better get informed quick, because the day is coming when Jesus returns to Earth to establish his forever kingdom, and every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. That's what Jesus will do."
I seriously do not believe Wright is a true Christian because the Jesus he preaches is not the Jesus of the Bible. If he is not a true Christian, then his leading of Obama to Christ is automatically suspect as well. No one knows a man's heart except for the Father. But I suspect there are things the Father knows about Wright and his followers that would terrify us mere mortals. God will judge him at the end, as He will judge all of us. Wright needs to seriously consider whether he will reign with Christ forever...or be cast into the Lake of Fire and permanently lost.

Barack Obama had his first meeting with Jeremiah Wright.
"...Afterward, in the parking lot, I sat in my car and thumbed through a silver brochure that I’d picked up in the reception area. It contained a set of guiding principles-a “Black Value System”-that the congregation had adopted in 1979..."
Wright remains a maverick among Chicago’s vast assortment of black preachers. He will question Scripture when he feels it forsakes common sense; he is an ardent foe of mandatory school prayer; and he is a staunch advocate for homosexual rights, which is almost unheard of among African-American ministers. Gay and lesbian couples, with hands clasped, can be spotted in Trinity’s pews each Sunday. Even if some blacks consider Wright’s church serving only the bourgeois set, his ministry attracts a broad cross section of Chicago’s black community.

December 8, 2008 - 10:15 ET by Retired Geek"Whiteness, as revealed in the history of America, is the expression of what is wrong with man. It is a symbol of man's depravity. God cannot be white, even though white churches have portrayed him as white.

December 8, 2008 - 10:22 ET by bradbenj5952The Apostle Peter had Wright's number 2000 years ago when he wrote, "But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not." II Peter 2:1-3
This stuff is nothing new and to be expected as we progress through to the last days. Like the many charlatans of past and modern days his motivation is the same and well known. His non-biblical rhetoric only serves to lift up himself and his cause and his pocket-book. Inasmuch as most of these deaths are young men, one can easily deduce Wright is intent upon increasing the stable of young girls for older men.
Wright's gospel of despair is foolishness.
Mentor Wright and Obama gave Louis Farrakhan Award
December 8, 2008 - 18:52 ET by Retired GeekFarrakhan - Wright - Obama
Wright and his apologists argue that black racism is simply a product of their culture because of past sufferings. Their racism cannot be understood by those outside their culture and therefore is in accord with what is just.
Wright not only preaches racism he awards racism.
He and his church awarded a life time achievment award to Louis Farrakhan.
Farrakhan is quoted as having said, "The white man is our mortal enemy, and we cannot accept him."
Farrakhan believes "Six-thousand years ago, an evil wizard called Dr. Yacub created the white "race" in a genetic experiment." Whites and blacks do not have the same creator.
Farrakhan boarded a UFO "mother wheel" piloted by 13 youths now orbiting Earth, waiting to destroy the whites and rescue the blacks.
Farrakhan stated that North America will be encapsulated with a "shield" and then the atmosphere will be burned off after the "mother wheel" rescues blacks.
If charged with a crime "such talk" would rule Farrakhan not being competent to stand trial, yet Wright and his congregation applauded and awarded him.
Obama selected Wright as mentor, spiritual guide and sat in his church 23 years.

The Great Pyramid
December 8, 2008 - 20:49 ET by colfaxI predict that Obama will team up with Rev. Wright and commence on the greatest and most massive public work project in American history, that being the erection of a great pyramid and a sphinx with the head of Obama somewhere on the outside of Chicago. This massive public work will employ thousands of people and take years to complete but will save our country from a great depression, it will also be a docking station for the 14 youth in the spaceship.
It was because of these

Thats just before Jake & Ellwood did backflips upfront and James Brown danced a gig.
If he says these people are
December 9, 2008 - 08:37 ET by andophiroxiaIf he says these people are at the Gates of Hell, isn't it his duty to fight evil?
Maybe if he actually GOES to their shows and talks his ideas (however stupid) I could give him a few kudos for even supporting his beliefs. However, he's just hiding on the pulpit and not giving out interviews.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but he really hasn't done much in the way of interviews. I haven't seen him on Hannity or on O'Reilly. I don't think he's been on ABC.
