The Washington Post editorial page keeps rewarding columnist Kathleen Parker for her compulsive failure to make it through a column without bashing religious conservatives. Parker appears on Wednesday’s op-ed page with a piece on Twittering, but about halfway through, she tries a Twitter of her own, bashing James Dobson:
Will they spurn me if I fail to twitter? Would a banter suffice? In the spirit of gamesmanship, herewith a tweet:
"James Dobson's letter-writing campaign to set me straight re God and GOP appears to be backfiring. Most e-mails from his Web site the past two days disagree with Dobson."
As my son would say, "Baaam!"
This is no doubt Parker responding to Dobson's smackdown on his CitizenLink website:
So, Kathleen Parker has determined that getting rid of social conservatives and shelving the values they fight for is the solution to what ails the Republican Party (“Giving Up on God,” Nov. 19). Isn’t that a little like Benedict Arnold handing George Washington a battle plan to win the Revolution?
Whatever she once was, Ms. Parker is certainly not a conservative anymore, having apparently realized it’s a lot easier to be popular among your journalistic peers when your keyboard tilts to the left. She writes that “armband religion” — those of us who “wear our faith on our sleeve,” I suppose, or is it meant to compare socially conservative Christians to Nazis? — is “killing the Republican Party.” Lest readers miss the point, she literally spells it out. The GOP’s big problem? G-O-D.

The Huffington Move
December 3, 2008 - 08:16 ET by allanfLet's face it. This is a great career move for Kathleen Parker. It puts her on the map big time. Perhaps that is her goal?
The REAL issue
December 3, 2008 - 08:23 ET by allahallahoxenfreeI don't give a damn about what this petty bimbo Parker has to say. Lets talk about PRAVDA scooping the American media and having more courage and integrity to actually REPORT on the looming constitutional crisis, 5 pending lawsuits against Obama at the SCOTUS. YES, PRAVDA, what a disgrace the American media has become. The man has spent $800,000 fighting the release of his original birth certificate. At what point does common sense ring a bell in everyone's head??? The man is hiding something serious.

Maybe you can help me here.
December 3, 2008 - 08:28 ET by NewsbusterbrownMaybe you can help me here. I have been told that there was a birth announcement in a Hawaiian newspaper announcing that he was born, which would be proof enough for me that he was born there. Question: has anyone seen it?
“There are no easy answers' but there are simple answers. We must have the courage to do what we know is morally right.” - Ronald Reagan (1964 Republican Convention)
Birth announcement
December 3, 2008 - 08:36 ET by allahallahoxenfreeI saw a picture of it. It states, a boy born to Mr and Mrs Barack Obama with the date of birth. Thats all it says. It was posted about 10 days after the birth. And that would be good enough for you?? I had to produce my kids original birth certificate to sign my kids up for little league and this arrogant ass claims he doesn't have to produce it to become POTUS when there is SO MUCH conflicting info out there? He has 3 or 4 separate citizenship issues, possibly born in Kenya, possibly STILL has Indonesian citizenship (He travelled to Pakistan in 1981 when he couldn't have done it with a US passport, he likely had an Indo passport, making him a DUAL citizen)

December 3, 2008 - 08:41 ET by SeashellAlso, I think that you can put a "birth announcement" in any paper you submit the info. to such as the newspaper where a grandparent might live (as in Obama's case).
Absolutely
December 3, 2008 - 09:16 ET by allahallahoxenfreeI think most American's disbelief in this issue is rooted in the fact that we have, as a country, experienced prosperity for so long. We have become collectively, Fat, Dumb and Lazy. We have witnessed the extensive and intensive dismantling of news stories that the MSM WANTS to showcase, ie Palin's wardrobe. We know what the MSM is CAPABLE of when it comes to investigative journalism. We assume, "Someone would have reported it if there was something to it, Hillary or McClain would have mentioned it if it was real." We trust "someone" will spoon feed us the truth. We as citizens will never be privy to all of the behind the scenes machinations in politics or news organization corporate boardrooms. We need to examine the facts for ourselves and come to our own conclusions. The MSM has REPEATEDLY shown in can NOT be trusted. They MUST get the message that they have to EARN the American public's trust again They can accomplish this by unbiased news coverage of FACTS. Here is a few facts:
Obama has not produced:
His Original birth certificate and the online computer generated abstract shows evidence of tampering
ANY medical records
ANY college records (WHY these? He likely had good enough grades, he got into Harvard Law School, perhaps it would show some citizenship facts on his applications that he would like to bury)
This is just off the top of my head and not even mentioning his COMPLETE lack of accomplishments to date.
I hope the SCOTUS sheds some light on this issue. If it is true, this is 10 times bigger than Watergate.
CONGRESSIONAL TERM LIMITS!!!
You would think that there
December 3, 2008 - 09:44 ET by SeashellYou would think that there would be a few curious reporters out there who would like to get to the bottom of this. Where are they???? Are they afraid to cross Obama?? I just can't understand something as big as this being swept under the rug.
Well
December 3, 2008 - 09:56 ET by allahallahoxenfreeI can see it now. the SCOTUS will order a stay of the Electoral College until he produces his COLB and his passports (hopefully). Then it will make 6 inch headlines "SHOCK! Apparent eligibility issues!!" Then there will be the release of the COLB and the inevitible stammering and covering of asses along with the parsing of words and splitting of hairs "In our opinion he is still eligible, he is just a citizen of the world, maybe we should try to amend the Constitution" Then the 10 inch headlines "FRAUD, PT Barnum would be proud, 60 million suckers born every minute"

December 3, 2008 - 10:06 ET by candanceAs much as I'd love to see Obama lose the White House, we'll get nowhere with this. Even if someone does prove he's constitutionally ineligible do you *really* think the left will accept it? They'll abolish the Constitution tomorrow if need be.
Let me tell you a story. About a year ago I was talking with a public school teacher in North Carolina. We got on the subject of politics and she specifically told me that the Constitution is obsolete and needs to be replaced. This is the mindset of Obamabots. Nothing, and I mean nothing at all, will drag their messiah from the White House.
This hasn't gotten anywhere now for six months and it won't make any difference down the road. Get used to President Obama. That's the world we live in.

December 3, 2008 - 10:31 ET by SeashellEven if someone does prove he's constitutionally ineligible do you *really* think the left will accept it?
Of course not. And frankly, I would hate for the country to go through all the hell it would go through if he were proven ineligible. Talk about "fire in the street".
However, I still can't understand the lack of journalist curiousity in someone not following up on this story. Think of the name he/she would make for themselves (if nothing else) if he was indeed ineligible-we're talking Woodward and Bernstein status. (Of course their life would be in danger.) Perhaps that's the motivation for inaction here.
Well, it is interesting.
December 3, 2008 - 12:13 ET by andophiroxiaWell, it is interesting. Either way, it's a bad deal. The importance of the birth certificate is that if does prove that Obama is ineligible, but he gets into the White House anyway---that means any lib can try to shove anyone they want into the White House. Once they break down any sort of requirements, it's a free-for-all.
I just say we have to be prepared on both fronts. If he does get into office or doesn't. Either way it's going to be bad, but we have to do what's right.

December 3, 2008 - 09:21 ET by allahallahoxenfreeI'm glad you are skeptical on the birth certificate issue but I don't understand the newspaper clipping issue. Who is responsible for the truth in those? The relative who submits the info to the paper. The newspaper wouldn't check the info. You probably ask, why in 1961 would his mother lie and say he was born in Hawaii if he was actually born in Kenya? Because US citizenship has its privledges, everyone knows that. Again, sorry if I'm splitting hairs here.

She went with Soetoro to indonesia to get away from the bad US and to raise Barry in "paradise". When paradise was not paradise she got rid of Soetoro and took Barry with her to Hawaii where her parents lived. Unfortunately she died of cancer so we cannot ask her why she did not do the paperwork on Barry. Remember, she was 18 when she had him and not much older when she died. I did not and will not read his books so I don't know the exact date. Suffice it to say, she was dependent on others to get through life and probably did not know what she needed to do.

That is most likely a myth, sort of like "fire can't melt steel". It would be helpful for the argument if someone could provide official documentation stating that travel to Pakistan by US citizens wasn't allowed. All I can find is people saying this was the case without sourcing it. If it's not true, it doesn't help to keep repeating it.

My birth announcement was in a Durham, NC newspaper. Guess what? I wasn't born in Durham. I was born about 90 miles away. But, we have several relatives there, so my parents placed an announcement there. My niece's birth announcement appeared in my local paper here in NC. Guess what? She was born in Fulda, Germany. The existence of a birth announcement is proof of just that: a birth announcement.
That he has spent nearly a million dollars to keep from revealing his birth certificate tells me all I need to know. I wouldn't give it a second thought if not for that.

Let me help you even
December 3, 2008 - 16:12 ET by NL207Let me help you even further. Even if Obama WAS born in Hawaii. his citizenship is still in doubt.
Why? Because when his tramp mother ran off with Lelo Soetoro to Indonesia and married him, she and Soetoro registered Obama there as "Barry Soetoro'. It appears Obama was adopted by Soetoro under Indonesian law. If that is the case, she and Soetoro, by their actions as the parent and guardians of young Barack Obama, renounced his prior citizenship since Indonesian law does not recognize dual citizenship.
I don't recall hearing that Obama has taken the necessary legal steps since achieving majority to undo this.

The GOP's big problem is the GOP.
December 3, 2008 - 08:55 ET by c5thenThe GOP is made up of too many who are Republicans first and conservatives if it's popular. There are also just WAY too many RINOs in leadership positions in the party simply because they've been there for many years. The other problem is the CINOs (Christian in name only) who are too ready to ignore their faith to elect a RINO. If every adult who calls themselves a Christian would vote only for candidates who hold their values, or at least don't undermine their values, then this country would be in great shape. But allas, there are far too many Christians who only behave as such on Sunday when they are in a specific building. The rest of the time they are just like the other secular residents of this culture.

Parker Still Teaches at the Buckley School
December 3, 2008 - 09:23 ET by Rush FanSince Kathleen Parker has a problem with God and "the evangelical, right-wing, oogedy-boogedy branch of the GOP", perhaps the Buckley School should update this obviously outdated workshop description of Ms. Parker:
The scintillating Ms. Parker, who claims she can make an atheist pray, claims also to be able to make any corporate or professional wonk human.
As I wrote here: Both Kathleen Parker and Peggy Noonan have morphed into liberals.

Well I Could Care Less What Kathleen Parker Writes...
December 3, 2008 - 23:22 ET by The7SticksWell, I could care less what Kathleen Parker writes about, but the real issue here is whether to listen to people like the so-called Dr. Dobson. As you know, he's a traditional con-artist. As we speak, he is sending out his pro-Christmas stormtroopers to force businesses that don't use the word Christmas in their advertising. It doesn't really bother me that some companies don't say Merry Christmas even though I do, and I have made it clear that I'm a secular Jew. But what these groups like Focus on the Family are trying to do is scam you that work hard for your money so they can be rich snobs. You know they don't genuinely believe that Christmas is under attack because if they did, they would be selfless and not ask people to buy shoddy bumper stickers and pin buttons. There's no War on Christmas, there never was and there never will be, and you need try expose con-artists like Dr. Dobson for who they really are: the real anti-Christians.

Christians have as much right to protest the watering down of one of the holiest holidays in our religion. What other religious holiday in the world faces lawsuits to keep school children from singing about the central message of the event and keeping depictions of manger scenes out of public places? Respect needs to run both ways.
BTW, you might learn something from Focus On The Family's financial reports and guidelines, available here. Few ministries are as open.

Constitution as a Living Document
December 4, 2008 - 09:28 ET by BlueCat57I'm guessing no one will read this post but about half-way through the comments the thread starts talking about how the Supreme Court SCOTUS would simply ignore the Constitution if there was proof that Obama was not a Natural Born Citizen. I recently listened to the following podcast. Starting about 37 minutes in Prof. Jaffa introduces Leo Strauss and then goes into a discussion of the Supreme Court. Listen carefully and you will understand why so many Supreme Court decisions don't make sense to those of us that read the Constitution and believe that it should be the standard by which we run America.
