Brian Maloney at Radio Equalizer warns that Barack Obama is signaling his designs on conservative talk radio with the rumored appointment of former FCC Commissioner Henry Rivera as the head of his FCC transition team:
Henry Rivera, a longtime radical leftist, lawyer and former FCC commissioner, is expected to lead the push to dismantle commercial talk radio that is favored by a number of Democratic Party senators. Rivera will play a pivotal role in preventing critics from having a public voice during Obama's tenure in office.
Rivera, who resigned from the FCC nearly a quarter-century ago during the Reagan years, believes in a doctrine of "communications policy as a civil rights issue".
His exit during the Reagan Administration paved the way for the Fairness Doctrine's repeal when the late president appointed Patricia Diaz Dennis in 1986 to fill out the rest of Rivera's term. Had this not occurred, talk radio as we know it today would not exist.
That gives Rivera's new task a great deal of personal urgency: it's a late-career, second chance opportunity to shut down opposition voices that have been allowed to flourish since his depature from the commission.
In particular, Rivera is known for his push for more minority broadcasting ownership, but this issue has largely been rendered obsolete as former commercial broadcasting empires teeter on the brink of bankruptcy.
Rivera's first opportunity to eliminate commercial talk radio will occur in June 2009, as the term of Republican Robert McDowell expires and he can be replaced with a pro-Fairness Doctrine Democrat. That will give the commission a three-vote Democratic majority, though the final two seats must remain in Republican hands.
If they can strong-arm one of the three Republicans into leaving early, this can be implemented even sooner.
Keep reading. Brian also reports that executives at Air America radio think of the Fairness Doctrine as a boon for them.

If you think about it, it makes more sense.
First To go: Right to bear arms (500% sales tax on all firearms is coming, then other laws will follow)
Second to go: Freedom of religion. Islam WILL attack us again, and the relativist liberal will blame ALL religions as being the problem and stop the free assembly to worship.
Third to go: Freedom of speech and grievance against the government. After they take the other two this one is easy to take.... But if you think about it, it's already dissappearing thanks to Obama's Pravda. Did Joe the Plumber have the right to speak his grievance to Obama?
No... He was treated worse than the media treats most criminals. And Obama was even worse in this regard. Whenever someone spoke the truth about him, he immediately tried to use the law to shut them down.
Fourth is exactly right. For those who don't fall in line, and worship Gaia (just like the NaZi's!!!) Will be sent off to some sort of re-education/work camp.
The country is lost, and frankly I doubt any true conservative will ever be elected again. Not when you have RiNO's being promoted to power. They think they lost because they weren't LIBERAL enough!!!

Obama senior was a pan African socialist who wanted to turn Africa into a single Marxist nation comparable to Russia.
Obamas cousin and murderer Odinga who Obama supported in an election campaign in Kenya calls himself a social democrat, Odingas father was an anti-government marxist.
Obama friend Bill Ayres wanted to kill 25million people in a communist take over of America.
There is serious speculation going on right now that Bill Ayres may have helped Obama write 'Dreams of My Father" and "Audacity Of Hope" and that some passages in the books sound eerily similiar to "Prarie Fire", Bill Ayres own communist manifesto.
Millions of people read those books. Kruschev once said concerning America "we will feed you a spoonful of communism at a time, until it consumes you".
Now what were the dreams of Obama's father again? Pretty much similiar to Bill Ayres it would seem.

Correct, as it won't be done without first building up the case with propaganda, using the media to talk about how vile and hateful right-wing radio is and how it's that kind of thing that is hurting America and needs to be reigned in. Americans will yawn and let whatever happen happen, too dumb to realize that their very own speech and the speech they may like to listen to could also be in the crosshairs at some point.

"Thirdly, it would also apply to Air America and the

No, it wouldn't apply to news programs. News programs are exempt. And since the media is on their side, they will be sure to make that exemption even stronger. As for Air America, no one listens to them now, so they have nothing to lose. They're already bankrupt. The goal isn't to compete with Conservative talk radio, the goal is to destroy it. Once that happens, there will be no need for Air America.

November 7, 2008 - 00:47 ET by Lame CherryThe Bush family are patricians. Bush 41 had no teeth unless Lee Atwater was kicking the hell out of Democrats.
Bush 43 had Rove playing nice guy in out maneuvering Democrats.
The Bush family has no problems in stomping on Saddam, but they like John McCain are deluded into thinking everyone is an America to be treated fair.
The Clintons had no problem stealing files and blackmailing people. Obama likes things smooth too and hires his hatchet work done. That is what Plouffe and Axelrod were about in nailing Larry Sinclair and John Edwards.
Obama will smooth it out to destroy his enemies, one of which is talk radio and they will be going after the internet. I'm surprised my blog site hasn't been confiscated, but then they do keep tabs on me to see what I'm up to via the blog.
This is the failure of the Bush family in being nice people. George Bush should have unleashed the Justice Department in criminal investigations, but he sat on his hands...........just like he did on Mexico, like he did on Iraq which as Lowell Ponte once said, perhaps the Mexicans are blackmailing Bush 43.
Mr. President could have saved this nation a world of hurt which is coming onto it by arresting the crook Obama is.
Frankly George Bush should make one final attack and that is to indict Obama and Biden on their criminal charges, along with most of the media in really cracking down on the electioneering they did.
As I stated before, if this was the regular Clinton, Truman, Johnson, Kennedy games, I wouldn't really care. I care because from the information I'm putting together on future blogs of what is about to happen in this world, America needs a leader. We should have had George Allen, but Bush stood by and watched this globalist intel clique run operations which destroyed most of the Conservatives out of Congress.
Mr. Bush has been watching all of this and taking it. I doubt it is for Christian reasons. They have flailed the hell out of him and he had to take it. Karl Rove seemed beside himself when I saw him like he was on a leash in not helping the McCain campaign which was simply not doing anything to in moving this.
There was something screwy going on in this election beyond the 9 11 economic attack coming out of Europe to install Obama. The real data flowing in shows an expected almost 10 million Republicans didn't show up to vote.
The only real thing I'm concerned about is I hope that people will drop Gov. Palin a note and thank her for her service. I saw her and she seems like she doesn't want any part of this again. I don't blame her as she was sabotaged by the handlers and savaged by the demented like Cynthia McFadden of ABC, but the Gov. needs to be shown the love she deserves as an American.
Sorry, but I see Mitt Romney starting up again and having been ignored by that clown when he should have listened to my policies does not want him in 2012 nor more than Pat Paulson aka Ron Paul perpetual candidate in this party.
What that all means is simple. Bush 43 made a promise to Americans to not care about the legacy. The Conservatives covered his backside for 7 years 10 months. I realize Mr. Bush has kept America terror free, but Mr. Bush owes Conservatives a debt it is time to pay up on as he has now left this nation a mess called Obama.
Send the DOJ in Mr. President and clean this out. You know very well if Obama is legit or not and you already know he is a crook.
Play the hardball sir in going out and put this into the Electoral College and make them figure out someone if they have to draft Gen. Patraeus and some neutral type person like Bill Cosby.
This American nation is going to need leadership and we do not have it. The worst of it is is the fact that what Obama is doing about talk radio isn't going to matter compared to the real hits coming.

Allow Mr. Obama and the Congressional Dems step all over their collective privates so they will blown away in future elections. Maybe then the Democratic Party base will turn away from these far left goofballs and go back to supporting traditional DP values.
If they screw up (more) and have any excuse to blame Conservatives, there won't be enough nails in their political coffin to keep them from rising up the next time the sun goes down.
But, at the same time, keep hammering away like they have been for the last 8 years.
One of the 24% who thinks George W. Bush was a great President. One of the 89% who wants to bring back the stock and pillory.

Fairness Doctrine
November 7, 2008 - 06:33 ET by GeneralAlOh yes! The agent of change has started! The world is so happy and we are all one again! I'm going to vomit if I have to listen to more puke about this guy! Oh yes! The fairness doctrine where everyone gets a chance to air their views! When do we get a chance to be heard on PBS, NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, MSNBC, CNBC, the newspapers and all else? Never, I'm sure! What's so sad, is all the talk about domestic spying and shutting down free speech and here we are. The Obamessiah is about to make sure that no one is critical of him and his policies. Can we say Comrad Obama?
The saddest thing about
November 7, 2008 - 07:09 ET by The Peoples DJThe saddest thing about this is that its not going to hurt just talk radio but all radio. Trust me I work in it. You're going to see people getting fired or layed off from radio if this crap is renewed. Where I work its already starting. We're changing format here in a few months (interesting it starting in Jan '09) to all jockless radio. Jack-FM type.

Who won the election??????
November 7, 2008 - 15:09 ET by Roscoe MendagoThe dems won everything in sight, how effective was conservative talk radio? Don't get me wrong, the dems will screw things up, no doubt. The fairness doctrine is bad, but why are the liberals complaining? They won, conservative talk didn't sway enough voters, why are they fretting. If the reintroduction of the FD is implemented I believe there will be a march on Washington like no other, torches and pitchforks at the ready.
"That's Headly"

November 7, 2008 - 17:02 ET by BlazerHeres an idea. Let conservative talk radio buy ships and transmit offshore in Intl. waters. During the cold war on a clear night even Soviet propoganda from Cuba could blanket 2/3 of the lower 48, before we started jamming it.
It would be more expensive to operate per unit, but you may be able offset the costs because you could have just a few ships as opposed to hundreds of shore based stations because in Intl. waters you would not be under transmitting power regulations of the United States and could most likely bypass a lot of taxes.
Their doing this in European waters now, to bypass doctrines in place their and taxation.
Just a thought.

That's not a bad idea. These Radio Ships could offset their costs by providing cruises to Conservative while airing programs. Hell, I'd go!

November 7, 2008 - 17:53 ET by nandrelliIsn't it great to see how progressive this country is becoming already? We're already nearly equal to Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro in controlling the airwaves, and 0bama isn't even President yet.

This not conspiracy. It is a manifesto. It's a page ripped from Marx, Alinsky and Ayres.
