On Saturday's Religion page in The Washington Post, they highlighted the latest hot item from their On Faith website, which really should be called On Doubt, since it so heavily promotes atheism and liberalism. This time, it was New Age guru Deepak Chopra, denouncing the allegedly ridiculous idea that God should play a role in the voting booth:

There never will be, and never should be, a religious reason to pick one candidate over another. God hasn't personally voted in an American election, but he keeps voting by proxy. In an ideal world that would never happen. Supernatural beings aren't citizens. Omniscient deities don't make choices (since they already know every outcome in advance). To anyone who holds a serious regard for the Constitution, voting your faith should be a private matter, not a public one. It wouldn't make me happy to know that a Catholic friend voted for someone solely because he was a Catholic, or that a Jewish friend voted for someone solely because he took a hawkish stand pro Israel, but that's their right. No public discussion is required.

Yet we have to be realistic. God is going to vote by proxy this year. The real question is where his massive voting bloc is heading, now that the Republican Party has been so thoroughly discredited. Can we hope that religious voting will return to being a private matter? In the past, various noxious movements that were anti-Catholic and anti-Semitic made grabs for political leverage, only to sink back into the miasma. Is something like that about to happen now?

As we all know, part of the right-wing revolution in this country was the consolidation of the religious vote. That, in turn, depended on convincing churchgoers that they should vote their faith in the first place. The very notion of knowing who God backs in the race is laughable, but it became no laughing matter when the schism between red and blue states elevated splinter groups, including hard-line evangelicals, into the driver's seat. As swing voters, the religious right discovered new and ever more unlikely rationales for seizing power. The basic argument of "God is on our side" was dubious enough, but it was stretched to extreme lengths: God is against Roe v. Wade, God demands that our children pray in school, God condemns homosexuals to hell. It would have been more truthful simply to label themselves as the intolerance faction.

I have never seen an interview where humanism is challenged.  I wish someone would put this issue to rest once and for all.

As a citizen of the US, I have every right to vote.  When I vote, I choose the person that aligns themselves closest to what I believe.  Why is that so hard to understand? Liberals do the same thing, except they rely on their wisdom, wheras I rely on the Bible which is God's wisdom and has been guiding people for thousands of years.  The Bible was making statements about science long before scientists figured out that what the Bible said was correct.

It is very easy to know who God backs in this election.  God is against killing babies in the womb. God is against penalizing those who succeed.  God is against dishonoring parents by not telling them that their daughters are having abortions.  We can know exactly who God is for.

I was trying to get waited on at our local Ground Round last night, but had time to notice that reps from WTimes, TownH, WeeklyStd, and one other I forget, were looking at the election "From The Right!" I was floored and really wondered what they were saying. 

When O was being played for comment, you could hear him all over the room, but when the pundits were on, for some reason, the volume was lower.

One comment I saw was a quote from someone, not on the panel? that Palin was not a leader, she was a believer! The point being that she mouthed exactly what she thought the base wanted to hear! Imagine.

Deepak Chopra should read the Bible

Amazing how Chopra speaks for God and all demonic gods in just like another Obama supporter now dead in Tony Dean who was yelling at me that God had better things to do than bother with Senate elections.

Interesting that God said Abraham was His Friend, King David His servant and Cyrus the Great of Persia was a tool in God's hand.

That sounds exactly what it is in God choosing leaders. God chose Saul even to punish the Israelites for wanting a king of this world and that is what they got including civil war and regional war.

The Archangel Gabriel even informs Daniel the Prophet that demons or the prince order were involved in the Persian empire.

So as Paul reveals by the Holy Spirit that Christians do indeed battle with demonic forces, God indeed does in His Wisdom move people to do His will in assisting in selecting leaders.
That includes God using a good servant like George W. Bush and rewarding them like Asa in the Tribulation not coming on their watch delaying it.

It saddens me when such wickedness comes out of Deepak Chopra and the smearing of real Faith is printed in a nasty publication making a whore out of a precious action.

Sinners lie to themselves there is no God and God has better things to do than be involved. I pray like so many that God is involved as this American is His project and blessing and we require His guidance and protection daily.

 Yes, you are correct that I mixed up the Isaiah reference.

But no, you are not correct about hereditary monarchy.  God did not want Israel to have a king, but they demanded one.  (1 Samuel 8).  Ultimately it was the kings that led Israel away from God.  And it was government taxation supported by the king that split the kingdom in two. 

And by the way, check out George Washington's First Inaugural Address where he references God throughtout the entire speech, including the following:

"...it would be peculiarly improper to omit in this first official act my

Furthermore, in Gothampc's quotation, note Washington used the term "benediction", a word derived from Latin and Old French and Old English, all cultures steeped in Christianity.  The word itself references Christian-based actions.  Washington's metal was forged in Christianity long before he was tested in war or the Presidency.  You are a fool if you think that Washington was not referencing The Divine within Christianity.

Lastly, show proof how Washington's "private morality" pertains to:

  • Abortion on demand
  • Homosexuality and gay marriage
  • Increased taxation of those working to redistribute wealth to those not working by their own choice
  • Withdrawing troops and thereby lose a war while simultaneously emboldening the enemy to attack America further
  • Government causing the bankruptcy of businesses.  (ie Obama's plan to "cap and trade" and "tax and legislate" new coal industry out of business)
  • Convicted murders not executed.

Weekly church services were held in the Capitol Building from 1800 until after the Civil War.  The US Marine band was commissioned to play for those services.

Here's what I found about the quote. The source I used says it comes from Walker P. Whitman, A Christian History of the American Republic: A Textbook for Secondary Schools, (Boston: Green Leaf Press, 1939, 1948), 91. Sorry, I don't have a copy.

Also, the quote was used by General MacArthur in a speech before the Michigan Legislature in May of 1952.

In advance of a fund-raising event tomorrow, the beautiful New York Public Library's main reading room was filled with this strange-smelling leaf. Looked kinda like an oak leaf. I read books on India. One was by a Wing Commander, and it was pretty dumb. The main book I read was too-academic, and repetitive, but was a pretty rigorous treatment of the language issue in India.

There is no majority language in India. Hindi is spoken by, depending on your source, 31-40% of the people. That's called a plurality.

Speaking of which, in America we have a voting system that, well, you don't care. It generally favors Republicans to have the STUPID voting system we have.

Years ago, a family friend who's into new age healing stuff (she's a dentist) asked me to read Chopra's book Quantum Healing to get my take on the "physics" in it.

I felt kinda bad explaining to her that this guy based his entire book around a misunderstanding of wave/particle duality (and the fact that he doesn't seem to understand that there isn't a universally accepted interpretation of quantum mechanics).

Now, whenever I see or hear about this guy, I can't help but think that he's either a charlatan or an idiot.
