Amanda Carpenter at Townhall brings our attention to something amazing: NBC and MSNBC are working with ACORN and other left-wing interest groups in a "nonpartisan" effort at "Election Protection." Is that a bad joke, working with ACORN on ballot integrity? An NBC press release on Tuesday announced:
With less than 14 days before Election Day, NBC News and Election Protection will be joining forces to help voters ensure that their vote will count. The news leader and the nation’s largest nonpartisan voter protection coalition will work together to promote the 1-866-OUR-VOTE Hotline and www.866ourvote.org website so that voters can receive live assistance if they encounter problems, and access the information before they head to the polls now through Election Day.
Election Protection is the nation’s largest nonpartisan voter protection coalition, led by the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law.
That would be the same "nonpartisan" lobby group that's staunchly opposed conservative Supreme Court nominees from Bork to Alito.
Election Protection's Partners list displays the logos of NBC and MSNBC next to an alphabet soup of liberal organizations, including the ACLU, the Brennan Center for Justice, Common Cause, the Human Rights Campaign, LULAC, People for the American Way, the Service Employees International Union, the Sierra Club and U.S. PIRG. None of the partners are recognizably conservative.
The black networks BET and TV One (which covered Obama's convention live, but not that other, much whiter one) are also partners, which tends to further put the "nonpartisan" appearance into question. It looks more like something called "Barack the Vote." Another "nonpartisan" partner is Change to Win, a coalition of leftist unions, whose website touts Obama as "The American Dream Candidate" and snubs McCain as "bad for workers."
ACORN is featured in a longer list of ideological partners elsewhere on the website. Carpenter found the Peacock spinners were dodging ACORN questions:
When asked for comment about ACORN's role in the project MSNBC spokesman Jeremy Gaines wrote Townhall in an email "this a question for them, not us."
Carpenter added that the "Protection" message surfaced on MSNBC on Wednesday:
Daytime anchor David Shuster promoted the effort Wednesday by telling viewers, "NBC is making your vote count. If you have a question about voting or problems at the polls, our partners at Election Protection can help. They have trained volunteers available to answer your questions. Call 1-866-OUR-VOTE if you have a question or if you run into or see any problems."
Anchor Contessa Brewer has similarly hyped the project. The Election Project features a snippet of her telling viewers about the project on their website. She described MSNBC's relationship with Election Protection as an "exclusive partnership."
That might mean it excludes conservatives.

NBC and Acorn
October 23, 2008 - 07:24 ET by allanfNBC and Acorn lay an egg
can they be serious?
October 23, 2008 - 07:25 ET by sawing battahey Shuster, I have a voting concern....
Dogs, cartoon characters and dead people are registered to vote via Acorn...how is this helping the process?
I registered to vote all by myself, without Acorn's help....it IS possible, you know.
It is possible.
October 23, 2008 - 07:38 ET by c5thenBut it's much harder to register in 12 different precincts using 12 different names and 12 different addresses all at the same time. To do that, requires the expert assistance of ACORN.
After all if 'one person, one vote' is a good idea then how much better is 'one person, twelve votes'?

This outrageous.I feel like I'm in Russia. This is nothing but a national propaganda campain aimed at the American people to throw an election. This is just a glimpse of what will happen if Czar Obama gets into the White House.
This is the national media arm of the Obama campaign pretty much confessing they intend to do everything they can to elect Barack Obama. We are on the brink of a major cultural and idealogical shift. The left are licking their chops at the prospect of finally having total control over America.

October 23, 2008 - 07:51 ET by The DistributistIt's not that hard, this voting stufff. You register legally, show up on Election Day, and check the corresponding box, or pull the corresponding lever, or hang the corresponding chad... there's your pathetic hotline!
How about conservatives clog the lines on a national level by putting it on speed dial, calling it relentlessly throughout the next two weeks and asking for directions to the polls, asking for a ride, asking for a pencil sharpener, asking if the shady-looking character in line behind me is a citizen, asking what the weather will be like, asking to speak to Chris Matthews etc. etc...
What was that number again? 1-866-OUR-VOTE... Pass it on! I'm calling it now, asking what day is Election Day.

I thought about the same
October 23, 2008 - 11:49 ET by winston smithI thought about the same thing. Tying up their lines hourly with **THE TRUTH** about ACORN and their felonies. The whole 1-866 scam is nothing more than waiting for some ACORN rep or some leftist trouble maker to call about a dubious or non-existing violation or incident at the polls and then it immediately gets top coverage on an MSNBC political program on election night -- whether or not it can be verified as to its truthfulness. Just another tactic created by the media to assist the Obama campaign. They're fooling no one with the phony "making your vote count" claptrap.

Keep the lies going McCain and Co. The vast majority of people no longer believe anything their campaign says.
Hey, give Palin $150,000.00 of clothes and pay for her kid's travel. Sure she's the reformer candidate. It's not like her running mate passed a bill with his name attached to it trying to stop that same sort of thing.
The Republican Party has been co-opted by the neo-conservative movement. The brand is finished until they change their format.
So you all are upset about voter registration that will have no effect on actual voting?
And then most of you are talking about trying to pull the same stunt that James Tobin and Allan Raymond pulled in New Hampshire?

Who is Wade Rathke?
October 23, 2008 - 11:59 ET by MinutemenWade Rathke is the founder of ACORN and the Service Employees International Union. Wade Rathke is a neo-communist.
In the 1960's Rathke and Bill Ayers were fellow members of the communist Students for a Democratic Society. Ayers went on to found the terrorist Weather Underground, and Rathke founded the SEIU and ACORN. Rathke has directed ACORN nationally for 37 years.
Google their names with Obama's and their strategy becomes transparent. ACORN is the largest neo-communist organization in the United States. It is not surprising that Castro and Chavez endorse Obama. Which brings us to MSNBC.
The FCC's license renewal standard has been "the public's interest, convenience, and necessity." MSNBC's shameless hyping of Obama and their blatant defamations of Governor Sarah Palin running for office clearly violate her civil rights (and the rights of those who support her), amount to election fraud, and violate the FCC's license renewal standard. ACORN is already getting hammered for election fraud. MSNBC is a fellow traveler. MSNBC's broadcasting license should be revoked.
Rathke's ACORN also has culpability in the subprime disaster. ACORN agents and attorneys (one was Obama) threatened banks, Fannie, and Freddie who balked at issuing, buying or guaranteeing bad mortgages. The lenders, fearing reprisals, gave in. The economic damage from this warfare against capitalism, and us, by ACORN, and others, will be in the $trillions.
There is a huge story in the dark force of Wade Rathke, who has always tried to operate clandestinely and is an expert at deflection, like Ayers and Obama. We are in the middle of an insurgency, so let's fight it.

I agree but
October 23, 2008 - 13:14 ET by Captain KirockI wholeheartedly agree with MM's sentiments, but I believe that the FCC does not license cable channels.
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but the FCC only has jurisdiction over broadcasts over the airwaves. NBC has to get an FCC license to broadcast NBC over the airwaves. MSNBC does not have to get an FCC license to be a cable channel.
Didn't know that...
October 23, 2008 - 13:15 ET by retroconGreat info, but it's singing to the choir.
Why aren't Fox and the "nearly, sometimes, occasionally not leftist" ABC taking a look at any of this.
NBC sells off its last shred of journalistic objectivity
October 23, 2008 - 13:09 ET by Captain KirockHow on Earth anyone with a brain can call ACORN and the ACLU "non-partisan" is beyond me. The truth is, you can't and anyone who does is a liar.
