CNN's Political Ticker blog didn't bury the lead on Wednesday afternoon:
Rep. Alcee Hastings told an audience of Jewish Democrats Wednesday that they should be wary of Republican VP nominee Sarah Palin because “anybody toting guns and stripping moose don’t care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks.”
So not only is Palin a racist and anti-Semite, so is anyone who totes a gun? But CNN's headline was ridiculously bland: "Florida congressman points to Palin to rally Jews to Obama."
CNN's Martina Stewart added that the crowd at the National Jewish Democratic Council roared at this mudslingling line, that "the room erupted in laughter and applause." Another congressman, Jewish Rep. Steven Cohen, announced Jesus was a Democrat:
Cohen, who recently remarked that Jesus Christ was a community organizer, took his comments about the founder of the Christian faith further Wednesday. “A lot of what Jesus talks about is wonderful,” Cohen said. “Talks about helping people and lifting them up and caring about people who are sick and all those things. He’s a great Democrat.”
At least ABCNews.com carried a more direct headline on its Political Radar blog: "Florida Congressman: Palin 'Don't Care Too Much What They Do With Jews and Blacks'." They reported:
Asked what the congressman meant, Hastings spokesman David Goldenberg told ABC News that he was trying to argue that Palin is an "extremely conservative woman who is out of touch with mainstream America."

I only wish this were true.
If Israel receives the support it needs (which I believe it will) to continue its daily struggle for existence, it will be NO THANKS to the great majority of liberal American Jews.
To Liberal American Jews: Mahmud Ahmadinjad is coming for you next. Just remember.

Question?
September 25, 2008 - 06:38 ET by PA ConservativeThis is a question I've had for some time and I am hoping someone can explain it to me. Why would most Jewish persons vote Democrat in the first place? Israel has had no greater supporter than GWB. Based on that alone, shouldn't Jews being running toward the Republican party? Obama doesn't understand or acknowledge the threat Iran poses to Israel. Anyone care to explain this voting pattern to me?
It only takes 20 years for a liberal to become a conservative without changing a single idea.

September 25, 2008 - 06:56 ET by Gat New YorkMy personal belief is that with the passing of time and distance from the Holocaust most Jews have lost sight of their religion and heritage (Israel). I think Democrats have done a very good job over the years of reinforcing how their party has always been the home to Jewish people.
Conversely, Republicans until recently have done a miserable job of outreach to Jews. Long before GWB there was Richard Nixon who is the single most important President to the survival of Israel, yet most Jews don’t know that. That was followed by the only anti-Semitic President in modern history who was personally responsible for the ascension of Khomeini and the worst enemy Israel still faces.
I believe that many Jews have forgotten or don’t know about Obama’s 20 year history with Wright and Trinity Church. There is also a percentage of Jews (ie Wexler) who have long ago place the big “D” ahead of an sense of religion.
There is a Siena Poll that has shown that the majority of Jews in New York are voting for McCain and that would be extraordinary.
Persecution Complex
September 25, 2008 - 08:26 ET by retroconIMHO:
Many of the Jews in Israel have fought to end their long history of persecution. They support the USofA and our conservative leaders.
Many of the Jews inside of the USofA prefer to feel persecuted. Hence, they make good Democrats.

Democrats talk about government doing those things by taking money from the citizens.

September 25, 2008 - 19:37 ET by mandrakeOk, so my post was in jest. So, some believe the phrase "the right to bare arms" include M16's which were not invented at the time the consitution was written.
Now, how far does this reasoning go? Does it include land mines, tanks or nuclear missiles?
"Arms" as in all weapons, not in specific ones
September 25, 2008 - 22:09 ET by CobraMan"Now, how far does this reasoning go?"
It goes all the way, there are no limitations defined within the Constitution.
The Constitution doesn't define what constitutes "arms." The term relates to any potential tool that is used as a weapon (That's what a weapon is, a tool used in combat or defense). This includes everything from rocks and sticks to machine guns and nuclear weapons, and even weapons that have yet to be invented. I believe this was done intentionally in order to account for any advancement in future armaments and technology.
"So, some believe the phrase "the right to bare arms" include M16's
which were not invented at the time the consitution was written."
The founding fathers were not stupid, they knew that progress will occur and new technologies will be invented in the future, including new types of weapons. They also knew that a nation is dependent upon its citizen for protection from external, and internal, threats. This is why the Second Amendment was included, to allow the citizens to make, keep, and use the tools necessary to defend themselves from any possible threat.
In regards what defines appropriate armament, it’s up to our elected representatives to make that determination and to make laws respecting which tool can be used as a weapon of defense per the Constitution and which one can not, just as the founding fathers envisioned.

September 25, 2008 - 22:33 ET by mandrakeSo by the terms of the second amendment it's consistutional for a private citizen to possess a nuclear weapon?
So then why not a citizen of another country?..let's say Iran or Korea?
Constitution only covers US Territory
September 25, 2008 - 23:06 ET by CobraMan"So by the terms of the second amendment it's consistutional for a private citizen to possess a nuclear weapon?"
In accordance to the Constitution, there are no prohibitions in which weapons are allowed, so I'd have to say yes. Congress, on the other hand, can determine that a nuclear weapon is NOT something people should be building (or buying) and storing in their homes or on thier property. Just like how, even thought gasoline is legal to possess and use, Congress has determined that the production and storage of large amounts gasoline is NOT something you should be able to do in your home or on your property.
"So then why not a citizen of another country?..let's say Iran or Korea?"
Don't act stupid, it's unbecoming. You know as well as I that the Constitution only applies to the governments and individuals that reside within the territories of the United States of America. The rights and limitations contained with the Constitution do NOT extend to the citizens of a foreign country.

You mean this Alcee Hastings
September 25, 2008 - 06:50 ET by well99Eighteen years ago, Democratic Rep. John Conyers came to believe that Alcee Hastings, at the time a federal judge in Florida, was guilty of impeachable offenses. Hastings stood accused of conspiring to take bribes, and, although it is little remembered today, Conyers served as the chairman of the House Judiciary subcommittee that investigated Hastings and unanimously recommended his impeachment. After the House voted 413 to 3 to impeach Hastings, Conyers went on to serve as one of the House impeachment managers who successfully argued before the Senate that Hastings should be convicted and removed from office."

This is par for the course for Democrats these days. They are motivated more now by hatred than they are by any traditional Democratic platform.
Those who have not swords can still die upon them.
Let's examine this a bit closer...
September 25, 2008 - 12:14 ET by JohnM“anybody toting guns and stripping moose don’t care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks.”
Is there an undercurrent in the thinking behind this statement, that puts Jews and blacks on par with moose that were hunted?
Never mind how stupid an assertion that is, it boggles my mind that no one is upset that it was even put forward.
Where's the outrage over those implications, from BOTH sides?
I am totally disgusted that Hastings is getting away with this racial divisiveness, disparagement, and scaremongering.
He should be held to account, and thrown out of the arena!
Oh wait! There would need to be an objective media for that to happen...
Killer Moose?
September 25, 2008 - 22:21 ET by CobraMan"anybody toting guns and stripping moose don’t care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks."
Just what could a moose DO to a black or Jew, especially after that moose has been shot and skinned?
On a more serious note, you would think that both blacks and Jews would APPRECIATE that some people know how to use guns. After all, it was guns and the people who used them who saved both the blacks and the Jews in North Africa and Europe during WWII.
