Here's another armed-citizen story that the liberal media tends to ignore from our friends at the Cam & Company show on NRANews.com. The Cincinnati Enquirer reported that deli operator Anis Cherradi fended off two young robbers with a gun he keeps under the counter.
Cherradi was alone in his Beech Avenue store at 7:42 p.m. Tuesday when two robbers walked in. They appeared to be 18-22 years old. He said he'd never seen them before.
One pointed a revolver at him, walked around the counter and demanded money. The gunman tried to force the married father of three small children into a headlock, shoving the gun against his head. "Get down!" the robber ordered.
As Cherradi went to the floor, he said he reached for a gun he keeps under the counter, a loaded 9mm Smith & Wesson.
Robberies, he said, are frequent in the neighborhood, and his brother was shot during one at the store two years ago.
As Cherradi struggled with the gunman, he squeezed off two shots.
"He just let go and started running," Cherradi said.
Neither robber, who fled in a tan sedan, was apparently hit, Cincinnati police said.
"Even if you let them rob you, there is a big chance they will shoot at you anyway," Cherradi said.
In the summer of 2006, Cherradi said, his younger brother was working alone when two men armed with guns came into the store. They shot him. He returned fire and wounded them, Cherradi said. His brother has recovered.
"That's why I never take a chance with a robber and let them do what they want to do," Cherradi said.
"Look at my brother. They shot him first and asked questions later. I know what the outcome could be if they come to rob you. Even if you let them rob you, there is a big chance they will shoot at you anyway. I have a family and kids. I am not going to let something like that happen to me."
Cincinnati police didn't charge Cherradi. They were "very helpful and understanding," he said. "They know what kind of an area it is."
In this case, the newspaper reports, there are broader questions about whether the deli is a completely legitimate business. Investigations by the Ohio Liquor Control Commission uncovered allegations of drugs and drug equipment on the premises. Not every story has just one heroic side. But these stories generally do underline that being armed in self-defense can certainly intimidate criminals.
Cam Edwards interviewed Cherradi in the second hour of his program on the NRANews website (and Sirius satellite radio).

It is both sad and a given
August 16, 2008 - 11:32 ET by jdhawkIt is both sad and a given that the drive by media will avoid like the plague stories of heroic citizens defending their property with their constitutionally protected right to bear arms.
What bothers me is this quote, "Cincinnati police didn't charge Cherradi. They were "very helpful and understanding," he said. "They know what kind of an area it is."
First of all, that you would have to mention that the police will not charge the defender of his property shows how much of a dent in our basic freedoms the liberals have been able to chip away at.
As important was the sentiment voiced by the police, that this is a high crime area. There is the real story in bold underlined facts. The area is a high crime area, the police know it and they are sitting on their hands doing nothing. And why might we ask? Well, some fact checking reveals that we have a dimocrat lead city council and mayor that have done little to solvea this problem.
Yes, the mayor, an African American, called for the citizenry to lead police to the capture of the top 50 criminals in the area. But, it was an enterprising journalist at one of the local TV stations that created, The Wheel of Justice. The wheel is a carnival like wheel with the pictures of a selection of the top criminals in the area (would you be surprised if the majority were, yes, African-American?). The TV program offers $500 dollars for any tip that leads to the arrest of these criminals. The result: 31 spins; 35 arrests! You can read about the story here: http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2006-06-08-crime-show_x.htm .

August 16, 2008 - 11:56 ET by Dr_LibertySee my post below.
I actually have colleagues who think it is atrocious that homeowners have guns and feel that if they use these guns in defense of their property, they should be charged with aggravated assault or murder (depending on the outcome). Basically, they oppose "castle laws."
With my post below, this is an open invitation for criminals in some counties to barge into a home, take $9,999 worth of property and leave with nary a concern. And libs see nothing wrong with this (unless it is there home).

Armed Citizenry
August 16, 2008 - 11:47 ET by Dr_LibertyI love Cam!
And I love the "Armed Citizen" column in American Rifleman. I post those columns on my office door to remind my colleagues that the 2nd Amendment is not just about supporting a militia.
Speaking of a militia, there was a county in my state where the sheriff's office gave a press conference stating that because of budget cuts they would not be able to investigate any property crimes of less than $10,000! This was obviously an extortionist ploy to get people to vote for a higher property taxes in the upcoming election. Despite this, a friend tells me that the sheriff cars are still patrolling rural roads for speeders.

August 16, 2008 - 12:07 ET by UnsaneThe irony is that I found that quote (with a bunch of others) in a calendar/Korean fact book printed by the Korean-American Friendship Association, sent to me soon after I got orders there once upon a time. :-) It is my very favorite Korean proverb. Spread it far and wide. :-)

I once got into a discussion
August 16, 2008 - 15:09 ET by USA4freedomI once got into a discussion with my brother-in-laws English wife, on a train in Italy. She asked me why “us Americans” need guns. I told her we might not need but its our right to own guns. She then smugly changed the question to: why do you have a right to guns. I told her it was in our Bill of Rights, and its was so important it was listed 2nd only behind freedom of speech. So now she was getting mad, she ask why does “every one” in America act like cowboys. (I could see my wife looking at me with that Oh..$hit look). I did not get mad like she wanted, I reminded her when the Germans were ready to march across the English channel good old England was begging us for guns to defend them selves. She fired back well that is a country we are talking about like the Army and Police. You as an citizen don’t need guns.
She said: “we just call the police.” I said really? What if I decided at this very moment I was going to kill you. (she is about 100 lbsand 5 ft tall) I would just stand up and walk over to you put my hands around your neck and strangle you, and nothing, or no body, could stop me. No police, no train people, no one. Both my wife and she looked at me with horror.. (I personally inside was laughing my but off). You could not even try to stop me, you might scratch my hands and arms but sure as we are sitting here you would be dead. The train people and police would get three in time to draw that chalk line around your body. She looked pale..
Then I told her, if you had a gun.. I would be the one that the police would draw the line around. I told her just ask my wife, (she has a concealed to carry permit like I do) My wife shakes her head (probably thank fulI was not going to choke her)..
In the end she started to see how it would keep you safer. I asked her how long does it take for the police to get to an accident? That is right on the street for them to see and still if it takes more then say 4 or 5 min. You are dead.

For USA4Freedom
August 17, 2008 - 23:09 ET by UnsaneI never tire of hearing that story. :-)
Indeed, people don't understand the three roles of the cops:
1) Be a deterrent.
2) Investigate crime.
3) As they have guns and badges, they have the unalienable right to be pricks and a--holes to everyone. To most cops, WE work for THEM, instead of the other way around. And if you criticize them in ANY way, even if constructively, they will CRY, SCREAM and HOWL.
Hence it is better to be personally armed. I might be in the market for some heat myself in the near future.

August 16, 2008 - 18:07 ET by jefflebowskiif I modified the saying to "the law is far, the Glock is near?"
Today I was in the local mall buying clothes for my daughter for school. It was packed and I felt very comfortable knowing that my Glock 23 .40 was safely concealed. My 66 year old Mother's permit arrived today. We will not be victims.
Liberals are victims. Conservatives are heroes.

Jeff, You picked what I had
August 16, 2008 - 19:52 ET by USA4freedomJeff,
You picked what I had down to my last 3 choices. I had the Glock, the Springfield XD, Kahr in my list of carry weapons. Usually carry the Kahr, but sometimes (depending of where I’m going it’s the Springfield. (more capacity but harder to hide).
I know I have written this story before but I think its such a great example of how just having a gun, stops crime.
I took my truck to the local garage, walking back through a grave yard (I know it sounds like a B movie) towards my house some 8 blocks away. Half way through (in sight of the Police Station), four really big black kids ride past me on bikes. They stop some 50 or so yards away and start to talk. Then they all start to ride back toward me, I lift up my shirt and show them I have a gun, one of them yells out: F... this, he has a gun. They went in 4 different directions. Somaybe I was being paranoid, or maybe I kept my self from being mugged. I will never know but I always feel safer when I pack.

Yea, I think that little
August 16, 2008 - 20:49 ET by USA4freedomYea, I think that little surprise under my shirt was a bit disturbing.
In a way I might have saved them from spending a great deal of time in jail, hopefully. As well as me not spending time in a Hospital..

USA, that must have felt great
August 17, 2008 - 19:35 ET by jefflebowskito know that instead of being a victim, you were able to walk safely to your home.
I have a Springfield .45 1911 that I love but its too big to carry. Also have a Taurus .38 with 2 inch barrel that is a good pocket gun. But I love having the Glock with me. Not a care in the world.
Stay safe and congratulations again for not being a victim!

I have to wonder if the
August 16, 2008 - 14:39 ET by bigtimerI have to wonder if the Ohio Liquor Control Commission was looking into this all before or after this happened...gun control groups in a lot of these cases seem to always have a complaint or a behind the scenes demand that a person or person involved with defending themselves be charged with something...anything....
They cannot stand for this kind of news to get out...they would rather have a person or family killed than defend themselves, their property or place of business....after-all staying alive and hitting the bad guys is bad....very very bad for their agenda of abolishing the 2nd Amendment....
In either case good for Cherradi and all like him...which I am one.

Neither robber, who fled in
August 17, 2008 - 19:30 ET by R D HelmNeither robber, who fled in a tan sedan, was apparently hit...
Too bad, as the next business owner these two useless wastes of oxygen decide to rob might not have a way of defending themselves.
Perhaps Cherradi will spend a little more time at the local shooting range.
