This is just unconscionable. This Speaker of the House was proclaiming last year that the war was "a complete failure." Now, when faced with the fact that she was wrong and there is success, won't even give the US any credit for it; claims the Iranians snatched a victory from the jaws of defeat for us.

It may be legitimate to accuse Pelosi of understating the achievements of the American military during the surge, or that Iranian "good will" is an oxymoron, but it is unfair to accuse her of slandering the troops.  Put simply, Pelosi is suggesting that despite battle field successes, the political objectives of the surge have yet to be met, and, furthermore, the Iranians played a role in ending the Basra hostilities.  Those are credible, factually sustainable statements, albeit subject to reasonable criticism, just as Clinton's Bosnia and Kosovo military interventions was challenged by many Republicans over a decade ago for their problematic political goals.
