The Drudge Report is highlighting a Los Angeles Times story on protests by supporters of communist China demanding CNN's Jack Cafferty be fired. David Pierson reported:
The protesters lined Sunset Boulevard from Cahuenga Boulevard to Wilcox Avenue chanting "Fire Cafferty" and "CNN liar" and singing the Chinese national anthem and other patriotic songs.
"Patriotic songs" are apparently sympathetic when they are sung in support of Red China. Doesn't Pierson or the Times consider it noteworthy that this kind of protest wouldn't be permitted inside China? Or that the Chinese national anthem is loaded with irony? It's called "March of the Volunteers," and begins "Arise, ye who refuse to be slaves!" What a joke.
Instead, Pierson spotlights a protester who says he was in the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989, and now China is so vastly improved:
Lake Wang, a 39-year-old engineer from Thousand Oaks, was wearing a T-shirt that read, "Do not be jealous of China Jack." The last protest Wang attended was 19 years ago in Beijing -- the Tiananmen Square crackdown.
Wang said China has become a vastly different society since then and that the country deserved credit for the changes.
Wang also insisted Cafferty's just jealous of China. Wang and other protesters also suggested CNN was full of racist prejudice:
"It's really unacceptable," said John He, an organizer of the event. "It maliciously attacks all Chinese. This would not be accepted if it was directed at any other ethnic group."
Pierson reminded readers of what Cafferty said that caused the outrage -- and the quick-trigger CNN apologies to the offended communists:
On the April 9 airing of "The Situation Room," Cafferty said of America's relationship with China: "We continue to import their junk with the lead paint on them and the poisoned pet food and export . . . jobs to places where you can pay workers a dollar a month to turn out the stuff that we're buying from Wal-Mart. So I think our relationship with China has certainly changed. I think they're basically the same bunch of goons and thugs they've been for the last 50 years."
CNN later said Cafferty's comments were directed at the Beijing government.
"In this occasion Jack was offering his strongly held opinion of the Chinese government, not the Chinese people," a CNN spokesman said in a statement. "It should be noted that over many years, Jack Cafferty has expressed critical comments on many governments, including the U.S. government and its leaders."

Well at least Cafferty was right for once. Guess that's why they want him punished.

Who Paid For This Pro-China Rally?
April 20, 2008 - 16:48 ET by zeestephenCan't help but notice the world press has no curiosity about the funding for these recent pro-China rallies.
Tim Graham - please post the photo that goes with the LA Times story.
All the placards, banners, and slogans are professionally done.
The photo, and the reporter, both emphasize the front and center presence of American flags at the rally, no doubt taking their cue from earlier pro-immigration rallies that were criticized because only Mexican flags were on display.
And check out the flawless high quality of all the flags, Chinese. Taiwanese, and American.
David Pierson interviews John He and John Chen, two rally "organizers," but he tells us nothing about them, including how he found them and how he knows they are organizers.
Who are Chen and He? What's their political agenda? Where does their money come from?
Finally, check out the comments on the LA Times web page. Clearly there has been an organized propaganda effort there.
These pro-China rallies have been staged in London, Paris, San Fran, and LA, and they all look and sound the same.
Why does the MSM have no curiosity about this?

April 20, 2008 - 13:37 ET by marpelEven though Cafferty should have been fired years ago for just being an overall ass, this time, I think he's right. Instead, I wish CNN would fire Lou Dobbs for his hideous comments about the Pope. I don't see anyone protesting against what that idiot said.
CNN has a boat load of creeps working there, but they have the potential to improve by firing the bad blood and getting some real journalists on their payroll.
Chinese Protests Prove Dobbs Is Right
April 20, 2008 - 22:07 ET by BW222Dobbs criticism of the Pope concerned Benedict XVI's comments regarding "open borders" immigration. I believe the Chinese demonstrations prove Dobbs is right (and I am a practicing Catholic that sends his daughter to a Catholic high school).
We have created major problems with our open immigration policies. With respect to the Chinese, how many times have you heard news reports about naturalized Chinese sending military secrets to China? Crime and gang violence has escalated because of the rise in "undocumented."
The simple fact is that we have admitted a lot of people whose first allegiance isn't to the United States and it never will be.
When you let anyone come into your national boundries, it can destroy your nation. It played a major role in Rome's undoing; it can happen here.

April 20, 2008 - 14:00 ET by BlazerI alway's get a hoot out of people who protest and fly the flag's of thier native countries from the safety and freedom of American soil.I guess not having to stare down the bore of an Abram's tank while protesting may have a little to do with it......maybe.

Fired? Protesters?
April 20, 2008 - 14:58 ET by DelsaJack is wrong on issues all to the time as far as I am concerned But on this I think to fire him is CRAZY.
He calls the rulers of Communists "goons and thugs" and he is exactly correct. They are what they are and for all the Great Chinese Americans who are in the streets, I say, go back to your homes and relax. Jack was in no way talking about you. Was he?
So get out of the streets unless the shoes fit your feet.
Jack should not be fired for this stupid thing and he should STOP saying, "I am sorry".
I hold no love for Jack but he should stand up and let people know he is an American, living in America, where FREE SPEECH rules.
Welcome to the world of politically correct speech Jack. As a matter of fact, welcome to our world, Jack!

I suppose that's progress to the probably fictitious "Lake Wang," although the thought-challenged LA fact-checkers would never know. They've been fired, and George Washington was a one-term president!!
Anyone See A Pattern Here?
April 20, 2008 - 17:06 ET by WolfmanLike all of Europe newspapers will condemn anyone who speaks the truth about Muslim terrorists, Hamas, Al queida, Gorebal warmning, Communists Chinese, etc.... why? Fear it might offend them? Fear they might not buy their paper? Fear of what? Whatever happened to Clark Kent who fought a never ending battle for truth, justice and the American way? Bridget Bardot has more testostorone than anyone in the media. Jimmy Carter would be proud!!
Anyone else tired of living in fear? Whatever happened to the psychologists who told us to face our fears? Where's the Soup Nazi when you need him?

The Dumbest Protest I've Ever Seen, And I've Seen Some Doozies
April 22, 2008 - 00:36 ET by The7SticksI do not understand the idiocy that could possibly have possessed Chinese Americans to demand the firing of a journalist who, for once, told the truth.
This reminds me of the episode of South Park, where Chef and his dodgeball team are heading to China for the International tournament, and one of the kids insults one of their players for being Chinese American. Chef then says, "You should never insult an American based on his own culture. It's okay to insult the Chinese people, but it's not okay to insult an American for being Chinese." Of course, the Chinese announcers are depicted saying "That's lousiest shot I've seen since Ford's Theater" or something like that.
Funny that there weren't any protests over that episode by Chinese Americans because it clearly was a pot shot towards the Chinese (although overwhelmingly hilarious.)
