Despite Cannibal Talk, PBS Host Hailed Ted Turner As 'Remarkable'

You’ve seen the Ted Turner quote from the April 1 Charlie Rose show about global warming turning what’s left of us into cannibals, but the point should still be made that PBS and Rose treated him as a statesman and a scholar. The host oozed all over him at the show's end: "You're a remarkable man..I enjoy your company. I think the life you've lived with passion, independence, a sense of great, great, and deep concern about the world we live in is remarkable."

What Turner said in reply was highlighted by Rose at the beginning of the hour: "I love this planet. It's worth saving. I mean, it's worth saving. You know, I know we're the same people that did the Holocaust, but we also did the Mona Lisa and Beethoven`s Fifth Symphony. I mean, there is so much -- this world -- we can't turn it into a cinder. We've got to protect it for ourselves and for our children. And it's worth fighting for. And that's all I'm doing, is trying to fight to help save humanity."

Rose was so indulgent of Turner that he goaded him into singing "Over the Rainbow" and "My Old Kentucky Home" and told him "it was good."

After the cannibalism talk, it was more amusing to see this exchange about his feud with Rupert Murdoch, and how he hasn't been caught saying anything stupid:

ROSE: Well, let's just stay with Rupert for a second, because the kind of things that you two slung at each other was as bad as it can get. You know? Suggesting...

TED TURNER: We never flung bullets at each other. We never descended into fisticuffs. Or I never pushed or shoved, and neither did he. We verbally pushed and shoved.

ROSE: Was the word "Hitler" used?

TED TURNER: Yes, but not the -- you know, just to describe some of his activities. (Laughter) You know, that was a little strong, I have to admit. But I was younger then. You know, and I`ve always suffered from foot in the mouth disease.

ROSE: Well, yes, that`s true.

TED TURNER: I`ve gotten a lot better, though. And it`s been a long time since anybody caught me saying something stupid.

Yea Right,

Two seconds is a long time..

 I often wondered why a

I often wondered why a good old boy like Ted ever wanted anything to do with a traitor like Hanoi Jane. Even godless Ted Turner who took pride in dressing in a confederate uniform is too liberal for her.

I guess the question here is: How the hell does someone become too crazy and too liberal for Jane Fonda?

I would try to come up with the answer but unfortunately me and Stephen Hawking aren't all that tight right now.

I guess the question here is: How the hell does someone become too crazy and too liberal for Jane Fonda?

I too was wondering the same thing the other night when this first came up on the blogs when I first posted about Ted...the same thought has crossed my mind...how in the heck crazy left do you have to become for Jane Fonda leave...

I was just so freshly amazed by Turner's latest leftist rants that I forgot about that thought...glad you brought it up though...so I don't feel so all alone...lol.

Well bt, after further

Well bt, after further research, I found the main reason for Hanoiness splitting up with Teddy is because he's a hardcore athiest and she embraced Christianity and he refused to accept her conversion or embrace it.

Well now, doesn't this all make sense?

Now I am rolling on the floor laughin'....

I'm not as smart as

I'm not as smart as Hannibal,    And I don't want to be a cannibal,

I'll just keep buying up land, Until I am the  most grand,

Surrounded by fruits and nuts, And up to my chin in buffalo butts

I will not starve you see, I will save enough for Jane and me

We're off to see the master of all lore, We're going to see Al Gore

And when I no longer live in the south, I'll remove feet from mouth!

The foot and mouth disease...

...he admits to suffering from was obviously contracted by kissing Jane Fonda. Actually, the Brits refer to it as "Foot and Mouth Disease;" we in America call it "Mad Cow Disease," a very appropriate name in the case of Jane.

As far as Rose sucking up to Turner by saying he "likes his company," he might mean the CNN company, which Turner owns, I believe...doesn't he?. Maybe Rose is sick and tired of being on TV in the middle of the night with about 23 viewers. Turner may hire him on at CNN, in which case Roses' viewer count may skyrocket to 50, perhaps even 60...when MAD TV is preempted by a Hillary press conference.

Or, when Rose said "I enjoy your company," was he in a wide stance at the time, breathing faster, tapping his shoe rapidly, and attempting to pass Turner a little slip of paper?

I am a typicalifraxtiousmommabochiNavydocious white person.

So you object to Turner

So you object to Turner being called remarkable because he made the cannibal comment? Rose shouldn't call him remarkable because of that?

bal, Turner is truly a

bal, Turner is truly a remarkable man, I mean hell, I make remark's about him all of the time, most he probably would'nt appreciate.

Bal, you're right. Turner's

Bal, you're right. Turner's comment was remarkably weird and silly.

Of course it was. But that

Of course it was. But that doesn't automatically preclude anyone from saying he's a remarkable person.

Bal - Turner remarkable?

That also doesn't preclude anyone from saying he's a cloistered nun. It just doesn't make him one.

Besides, I heard Ted was rehearsing "Itsy Bitsy Spider" and was deeply disappointed at the "Over the Rainbow' request.

You have your idols, Bal, I'll stick with mine.

Mica

He's not my idol, but he's had a remarkable life, hasn't he?

I'll give you that, Bal

'Had' is correct.

'Now' he seems a few months way from pulling a Howard Hughes.

Having a remarkable life doesn't necessarily make you a remarkable man. Just ask any liberal. How many workers did he hurt to gain his money and power?

Besides, if he ever was, he's no longer a remarkable man.

He is insane.

I just don't understand why

I just don't understand why it's important to point out that Charlie Rose -- CHARLIE ROSE -- called Ted Turner remarkable? Seems rather trivial.

I agree, Bal

It is trivial.

But you brought it up about 8 posts ago.

When I invented the t.v. news channel, I chose to call it CNN. CNN stands for Ted's Television News Station. - - - Ted would probably agree with this statement today.

Good grief...

Good grief...

Turner is indeed

Turner is indeed remarkable... remarkably senile.

Ted Turner IS remarkable

Ted Turner IS remarkable, he's remarkably obtuse.

There are other remarks I could make about Ted, but decorum prevents me from listing them here.

The Scary Part

The scary part about listening the Ted Turner is this guy had enough smarts to make millions. It should give hope to the rest of the morons in the world.

Democrats: Stuck on Stupid since 2000.

I don't care how

smart he was to make millions...

Teddy boy done went off the deep end...

Hanoi Jane "done went and killed his brain".... must be some good stuff he on....

Ain't talkin' bout no shine.....

Mr. Turner has nothing to worry about

Mr. Turner need not worry. I find him very distasteful and assume all the rest of us cannibals will too.

This entire dialogue sounds like it came out of the mouth of someone overdosing on his meds! How in blazes does this left-coast, bleeding-heart, humanist liberal connect the Holocaust with Mona Lisa and the Fifth Symphony?

My 12 year old daughter makes more sense than this when she text messages me - and half the time I don't understand that!

Stupid is as stupid does - and PBS applauds it! Oh, brother!
