Newsweek's snarky "Conventional Wisdom Watch" column has once again displayed the inaccuracy of its title. "Pathetic Liberal Spin In 20 Words Or Less" is more accurate, but not very catchy. In the new (March 31) edition, Barack Obama gets a sideways arrow -- like he had an okay week instead of a down-arrow week??? -- while "Hannity" is singled out for a down arrow with these twelve words of supposed wisdom:
Along with Rush, uses race-baiting to score ratings. Now that's hating America.
"Barack" gets a sideways arrow with this message:
Will the greatest speech in recent history get him sidelined as a "black candidate"?
Oh, and Jeremiah Wright gets a down arrow:
Why keep preaching inflammatory sermons with candidate Barack in the pews? Dumb.
So, Reverend Wright's offense was not hate-filled sermons, but the inconvenient political timing of the hate-filled sermons. Is Wright not guilty of "race baiting"? Is it simply defined as "race baiting" for radio hosts like Hannity and Limbaugh to object to his sermons for their attacks on the country Obama is seeking to lead?
The column is credited to senior editor Jonathan Alter. His Newsweek biography explains:
Alter is also an originator and author of Newsweek's "Conventional Wisdom Watch," which uses up, down and sideways arrows to measure and lampoon the news.

Stanley Inc., a 3,500-person firm, is an Arlington-based information technology firm that this week won a $570 million contract to continue providing passport services to the State Department, which the company has done since 1992, according to Stanley Inc.’s Web site.

Curious George
March 25, 2008 - 20:59 ET by Angry AfricanOkay. A caller phoned in and called Obama Curious George. And Rush laughed. (Fact - I listened to the programme). He then chuckled a bit more and said "Curious George". And then, get this for an "informed" guy who knows everything. Tries to worm out of it by saying he never heard of Curious George. Again and again tried to deny he ever heard of Curious George. Now that was curious. A movie, a tv programme, newspapers, everywhere, little ones running around watching it and Rush didn't hear about it? And I guess he didn't hear the "there is no WMD" either. Or the "no link between Bin Laden and Sadam". Couldn't have - he still denies knowing that as well I guess. What does Curious George and non-existing WMD have in common? Rush never heard of either.

In fact, I still haven't googled C.G. to understand the racist undertone of calling Obama this. Guess I'll finally do that now.... So it's not at all out of the question, Rush not knowing much about Curious George.
But this aside, still, it did NOT come out of Rush's mouth. So, you were stretching using this for a counter argument in the first place, and then to expose that it wasn't him who said it AND you're assumptoin that he knew what the implication was.... your argument that Rush is anything close to racist sort of falls on it's face.
FACTS -- and the many words and video clips from a variety of impassioned sermons prove them out -- Rev Wright: A) has very little love, if any, for whites, B) has very little love or respect for this country, C) believes, basically, that all ills in the black community point to whites and this country, D) believes in outrageous conspiracy theories about the spread of HIV to kill blacks, 9/11 and the government, etc.. If you tell me that the 9/11 theory is "more commonplace than you know", my preemptive answer to that is, "so what, it's still an idiotic, outrageous theory, on so many levels".

And he wrote in his letter to supporters (can get you a cope if you want) that there is a link between Bin Laden and Sadam? And his lies goes on and on. And if someone get's him in a corner? He swears at them and tries to be funny. And oh yes, he is a double coward. He screens his calls so that anyone who might be bright enough to take him on is cut off or not even allowed on air. He is taking everyone for a ride - just the way he did with his fake back problem and drug addiction. I don't mind people speaking their mind - that why there is a thing like democracy. But Rush a hero? Damn, we have hit the bottom of the barrel here if that is the case. But then - he doesn't give a damn because guess what? He asked for people to support the troops by supporting Rush. he will get it to the troops. WTF? What did he gove the troops with the millions that came his way from listeners? Rush tapes and letters. Like they need that when the bullets and bombs are flying. Gues who made the money on that one. Buy them flack jackets next time Rush.

I am from South Africa. And I love ALL South Africans. You'll see in my post about two of the most evil guys in our history (PW Botha and a guy who headed up a hit squad) that I find it difficult to even hate them. Because I saw the people they were away from their "official" business. They were just normal people that did horribile things. But they were still loving fathers and husbands. Again, it is difficult to truly hate someone if you see that they are just like you in many cases. Save a SeAL, club a liberal!!
Can you even read?
March 26, 2008 - 17:55 ET by Angry AfricanReally. Did YOU read the post on them? I said that I hated them. But what I realized that even those we hate the most have human qualities that we can't understand. That you would not know a killer if he walked down the street. They might walk around holding their kids tightly and loving their wives. I said I hated them until I saw them doing these things I do - loving my family and those around me. That it made it difficult to understand true evil, because true evil don't necessarily beat their wifes, or rape and pillage. They do things we would do. And then they do those things that are so evil (murder, rape, hit squads etc) that we can't comprehend. I don't equate myself to them. I said that it is difficult to understand and comprehend that we somehow have some "actions" in common that expresses love. I always thought that evil expresses itself in everything they do - but it doesn't. Not sure if that is clear enough - but go read the post and maybe it is a bit clearer there. Or should I talk a bit slower?

Zakaria is most famous for his article after 9/11 titled "The Politics of Rage: Why Do They Hate Us?" He also had one titled "The Arrogant Empire" after the start of the Iraq war. It's not just the titles of his articles, it's the smarmy way that Zakaria simplifies all foreign affairs to the charicature of the "ugly American" tourist. We can do no right in his eyes.

Republican/right-leaning radio personality had some private addiction to drugs he was taking -- who knows what went on in his private life, but he's not a politician so who really cares (right, you do) -- and he's fast fodder for Leon's "jokes", as he would classify them, we're guessing.
Meeeeeeanwhile, (earth to Leon).... back in WASHINGTON:
Democrat politician, Senator Spitzer, NY, shamefully resigns after being caught paying for prostitution, spending upwards of 80 thousand dollars over a span of many years. He's married with 3 children. Possible use of campaign funds still under investigation.
Democrat politician, Senator Patterson, NY, now reveals he had extra-marrital affairs, and even had sex/affairs with women on his staff who were later given new jobs/positions.
Democrat politician, Mayor Kilpatrick, Detroit, and an aide indicted on felony charges, including perjury and obstruction of justice after prosecutors said sexually explicit
text messages between the two contradicted their sworn court testimony.
Democrat politician, Senator and Presidential candidate Obama, Illinois, is revealed to have -- and somehow continues to maintain -- a close relationship with an overt racist, hate-mongering pastor. Proof is in not one 15-30 second soundbite, but many selected video clips from many different sermons. He has been Obama's pastor, spiritual advisor, a major figure -- and his church a primary doner -- of his campaign, was the priest at his wedding and baptised his children. He later defends this Reverend, and also refers to his grandmother as "a typical white person".
Democrat politician, Senator and Presidential candidate Obama, Illinois, and Democrat politician, Senator and Presidential candidate Clinton, NY, both have companies that contributed and/or were advisers to their campaigns, whose employees were caught snooping into passport records of all candidates in the State Department. Still under investigation.
Democrat politician, Mayor Sharpe James, NJ, indicted last year, charged with 25 counts of corruption including charges of using city credit cards for personal expenses, abusing his office by steering discounted city property to a girlfriend who then sold the parcels for large profits.
Democrat politician, Rep. William Jefferson, indicted last year after more than two years of being the target of a federal investigation, on 16-counts includeing charges of racketeering, soliciting bribes, money laundering, obstruction of justice, corruption, and conspiracy.

Oh, and let's not forget the church that Obama is connected with now has an equally-hate filled pastor replacing Rev. Wright, calling this whole thing a "lynching".
Oh, and Obama not only defends Rev. Wright as a person, but proceeds to compare this rhetoric with words his grandmother might have said in private some 40 years ago.
Oh, and said grandmother is your "average white person", our future President of the United States casually reminds us off-hand, on a radio show.
Come on, Barack, give us something that will REALLY bring into question your qualifications for the POTUS, and for "change" and "moving our country forward" and "getting beyond the divisive culture of politics".
Yes, that's a heaping pile of sarcasm, Bal.
This stuff is horrendous, and Obama is miraculously chugging along, thanks to good ole' MSM protection.

March 25, 2008 - 11:39 ET by PawpawNDon't Worry, Be Happy. AA, that has a different meaning here in US.
The Founding Fathers would be ashamed
March 24, 2008 - 17:10 ET by Angry AfricanThis might just be the last blog I write about politics in America. I have written about Obama being the American Mandela, the burden of the hope he brings, and the man he is in his own right. But I don’t know anymore. I still believe in Obama, but I just don’t believe in American politics anymore. If this is how they want to play politics in America then I don’t want to play anymore. This is too sick. This is nothing to be proud of. Yes, they won - the cynics and morally corrupt. This is just not right guys. This is not what people fought for and died for. The Founding Father would be ashamed. And so should you. http://angryafrican.net/2008/03/23/the-founding-fathers-will-be-ashamed/
"I still believe in Obama,
March 24, 2008 - 17:22 ET by Dan The Man 2"I still believe in Obama, but I just don’t believe in American politics anymore." and that tells me all I need to know. Are you a citizen of teh USA? I can see by visiting the blog where your views may be distorted. But you dont seem to get it do you. Obama is an empty suit full of empty promises, well so is Shillary and McCain is not too good either. I dont see how you can like Obama with his, his wife's and pastor's bigot views and racist attitudes toward whites.
This is not South Africa and never will be. Different cultures and worlds.
Nuke em til they glow then shoot em in the dark.
See what I mean
March 24, 2008 - 21:48 ET by Angry AfricanI agree with the different cultures and different worlds. I just find it odd that the people that I have met (from all walks of life and different political views) are so hateful when it comes to politics. I don't mind people not liking Obama - hey, that's why people have democracies. But it turns into a hate science here.
I mean really - what is that last line of yours? Nuke em til they glow then shoot them in the dark?
AA... You got one thing
March 24, 2008 - 17:25 ET by bigtimerAA...
You got one thing right in all your diatribe...America does not deserve Obama.
Btw...I don't give a rats rear what the rest of the world thinks anyway...but they sure all come screaming to us if they have any issues or needs...and we are always the first ones there.
Go figure.
"Never murder your opponent when he is committing suicide." ~ W. Churchill
You don't give a rats rears?
March 24, 2008 - 21:52 ET by Angry AfricanYes you do. Or else you wouldn't strick your nose in everywhere. The problem isn't whether you care or not. It is whether you can survive without the world or not. And the fact is you can't. Look at the trade deficit. Where do you think your car comes from? And you food? And you house? And you bank's money? etc etc. You need the world just as much as what the world needs you. Sorry - interdependence rule whether you like it or not.
You the first ones there? Uh, when? Not in any of the last big wars - sorry. Late in WWII if I recall. No one comes running to you. Stop drinking the Kool-Aid. People run to China for cheap labour and cheap goods. And wars? Most of Europe just stay out of it and see their Euro grow.
I love the US. It stands for more than what most people think or would like to acknowledge. But don't drink that Kool-Aid that people feed you. It ain't true anymore.
AA, Great post. Well
March 25, 2008 - 17:25 ET by LeonAA,
Great post. Well stated. You are 100% correct. Unfortunately it looks like America is going to have to wait for all the old heads to pass away and leave us alone. They don't understand the importance of global relations in world that revolves around one global economy.
It's sad.
No reply from BT is priceless. Nice work.

Liberal Leon-isn't LEON really code for .....
March 25, 2008 - 22:04 ET by PawpawNIsn't LEON really code for LIBERAL EMBICLE ON NEWSBUSTERS! What I thought anyway!
Please call me a liberal
March 25, 2008 - 20:38 ET by Angry AfricanBroadly speaking, liberalism emphasizes individual rights and equality of opportunity. Different forms of liberalism may propose very different policies, but they are generally united by their support for a number of principles, including extensive freedom of thought and speech, limitations on the power of governments, the rule of law the free exchange of ideas, a market or mixed economy (like in the US with it's subsidies to commercial famrs and big oil companies), and a transparent system of government. All liberals — as well as some adherents of other political ideologies — support some variant of the form of government known as liberal democracy, with open and fair elections, where all citizens have equal rights by law.
If that's a liberal, please call me one. So which part don't you agree with?
(definition easy - I used to be a Political Science lecturer, but this is by WikiP).
AngryA
March 25, 2008 - 20:58 ET by MrShyHaha. I'm afraid, AA, that's not a liberal at all. Not in today's world.
So from now on we're calling you a conservative (do we have your permission?)
Also...
liberalism:
emphasizes individual rights and equality of opportunity.
conservatism:
fosters an equal playing field to all people, which results in actually offering individual rights and equality of opportunity.

March 25, 2008 - 22:20 ET by PawpawNI never ever knew a Liberal that way, but have to admit did know a few Virginia Democrats who actually were conservative. Right now it's weird here as we have Dem gov who is married to daughter of former Repub gov. Who'd of thunk it! The person who said "politics makes for strange bedfellows" had them and CARVILLE & MATLIN in mind.

March 26, 2008 - 09:01 ET by LeonAA,
There are a few others hiding in the bushes, but not many.
Thankfully we are here or this site would be incredibly boring. Bunch of guys slapping 5 in the locker room over how much they agree on everything.

Speaking of Media Matters, David Brock was your man in the 90s. Now that he's stopped lying, you don't like him anymore.
Isn't that convenient.
