Newsweek: Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh Are 'Hating America'

Newsweek's snarky "Conventional Wisdom Watch" column has once again displayed the inaccuracy of its title. "Pathetic Liberal Spin In 20 Words Or Less" is more accurate, but not very catchy. In the new (March 31) edition, Barack Obama gets a sideways arrow -- like he had an okay week instead of a down-arrow week??? -- while "Hannity" is singled out for a down arrow with these twelve words of supposed wisdom:

Oh, and Jeremiah Wright gets a down arrow:

So, Reverend Wright's offense was not hate-filled sermons, but the inconvenient political timing of the hate-filled sermons. Is Wright not guilty of "race baiting"? Is it simply defined as "race baiting" for radio hosts like Hannity and Limbaugh to object to his sermons for their attacks on the country Obama is seeking to lead?

Okay. A caller phoned in and called Obama Curious George. And Rush laughed. (Fact - I listened to the programme). He then chuckled a bit more and said "Curious George". And then, get this for an "informed" guy who knows everything. Tries to worm out of it by saying he never heard of Curious George. Again and again tried to deny he ever heard of Curious George. Now that was curious. A movie, a tv programme, newspapers, everywhere, little ones running around watching it and Rush didn't hear about it? And I guess he didn't hear the "there is no WMD" either. Or the "no link between Bin Laden and Sadam". Couldn't have - he still denies knowing that as well I guess. What does Curious George and non-existing WMD have in common? Rush never heard of either.

We debated this a little while back before you joined, and actually, many hardly knew who Curious George was -- I was one of them!

In fact, I still haven't googled C.G. to understand the racist undertone of calling Obama this. Guess I'll finally do that now.... So it's not at all out of the question, Rush not knowing much about Curious George.

But this aside, still, it did NOT come out of Rush's mouth. So, you were stretching using this for a counter argument in the first place, and then to expose that it wasn't him who said it AND you're assumptoin that he knew what the implication was.... your argument that Rush is anything close to racist sort of falls on it's face.

FACTS -- and the many words and video clips from a variety of impassioned sermons prove them out -- Rev Wright: A) has very little love, if any, for whites, B) has very little love or respect for this country, C) believes, basically, that all ills in the black community point to whites and this country, D) believes in outrageous conspiracy theories about the spread of HIV to kill blacks, 9/11 and the government, etc.. If you tell me that the 9/11 theory is "more commonplace than you know", my preemptive answer to that is, "so what, it's still an idiotic, outrageous theory, on so many levels".

I am not going to even try to defend Wright. he was wrong on so many levels. And the point I was trying to make was about Rush. People hold him up as some heor of the "right". But this is a coward who dodged Vietnam because of a boil on his ass. And he wrote in his letter to supporters (can get you a cope if you want) that there is a link between Bin Laden and Sadam? And his lies goes on and on. And if someone get's him in a corner? He swears at them and tries to be funny. And oh yes, he is a double coward. He screens his calls so that anyone who might be bright enough to take him on is cut off or not even allowed on air. He is taking everyone for a ride - just the way he did with his fake back problem and drug addiction. I don't mind people speaking their mind - that why there is a thing like democracy. But Rush a hero? Damn, we have hit the bottom of the barrel here if that is the case. But then - he doesn't give a damn because guess what? He asked for people to support the troops by supporting Rush. he will get it to the troops. WTF? What did he gove the troops with the millions that came his way from listeners? Really. Did YOU read the post on them? I said that I hated them. But what I realized that even those we hate the most have human qualities that we can't understand. That you would not know a killer if he walked down the street. They might walk around holding their kids tightly and loving their wives. I said I hated them until I saw them doing these things I do - loving my family and those around me. That it made it difficult to understand true evil, because true evil don't necessarily beat their wifes, or rape and pillage. They do things we would do. And then they do those things that are so evil (murder, rape, hit squads etc) that we can't comprehend. I don't equate myself to them. I said that it is difficult to understand and comprehend that we somehow have some "actions" in common that expresses love. I always thought that evil expresses itself in everything they do - but it doesn't. Not sure if that is clear enough - but go read the post and maybe it is a bit clearer there. Jonathan Alter and others like Fareed Zakaria that write for and help shape the views at Newsweek are truly above it all.

Alter is unapologetically liberal. He has been a flak for liberal causes for years, as a talking head, as a writer, and as an editor.

Zakaria is most famous for his article after 9/11 titled "The Politics of Rage: Why Do They Hate Us?" He also had one titled "The Arrogant Empire" after the start of the Iraq war. It's not just the titles of his articles, it's the smarmy way that Zakaria simplifies all foreign affairs to the charicature of the "ugly American" tourist. We can do no right in his eyes.

I admit I used to read Newsweek and Time years ago and thought they contained news. Now I see it for what it is: propaganda for america haters.

You succeeded in luring me into feeling that I indeed inapropriately posted this on the wrong thread (sort of) when now I'm realizing, wait, no... it's totally relevant to how that article, with it's up/sideways/down arrows of judging/grading people's character is so out of whack in comparison to the very serious scandalous behavior of Obama and other LIBERALS.

So I'm exposing how the media is arrowing "down" the Hannity's and Rush's of the world who have made some comments as they're tv personalities who give their opinions, while disgracefully arrowing "sideways" these awful misdeeds by politicians, no less, who SHOULD be held to more account and higher standards, as they serve us.

Look at the trade deficit. Where do you think your car comes from? And you food? And you house? And you bank's money? etc etc. You need the world just as much as what the world needs you. But really, I actually think -- if this is indeed your first series of posts, on this thread -- you've been quite civil, and some others have shot back pretty strong, and you've maintained civility. I'm not quite clear on where you stand party-wise, but if you're generally more liberal I'm sure you are prepared for some heated debate. But most here are good debaters and not at all rude, and we often respectfully disagreee. But if you are more antagonistic (see "Leon") then it's going to be fisticuffs (sp?), albeit fun fisticuffs :)

South Africa, Botswana, Mozambique, Senegal, Zambia - I'll stop there. What do they have to get "in order". Zambia is more Swiss than the Swiss. Never been in a war - internally or externally. Poor? Yes. But that doesn't define being "in order". wealth is defined by the individual.

More importantly. Of course I can't vote. Does that mean I don't have an interest? Of course not. Does that mean I can't raise my voice and be part of the debate? Of course not. What right do America have in raising their voice when other people vote or have their politics? If you have the right then I have the right. Right?

I'm simply pointing out that working in the civilian sector is essential to the survival of America. You can't have an army without the civilian sector, and we wouldn't have the civilian sector without the army.

I didn't see anything bigoted in his post. Are you sure you aren't confusing his posting with your hate filled rant about Africa?

To reiterate, you claimed his opinion was worthless b/c he's not an American citizen. I look forward to you holding your buddy Jack to the same standard.

From this point on, everything he says, according to you, is useless since he's not an American citizen.

It's a shame to see you have to alienate your friends for the sole purpose of attacking someone you disagree with. Single tear.

Then you havent read all of his posts. Hate filled is an understatement. And Jack has never put his opinion above others here. AA seems to think that its his way or the hi-way. Sort of the "or else" theme so prevalent in the socialist realms. The guy is even left of you Leon. Dident think I would ever say that, but you seem reasonable after reading this guy.

Given the fact that your original post is one of the most bigoted things I've read recently on this site, I find it funny that you're accusing him of bigotry.

Do you have any examples of his bigotry or is it just a blanket charge? He's just giving off the bigot vibe?

Now you're trying to qualify your non-Americans shouldn't have an opinion comment saying that Jack never put his opinion above anyone else? That's exactly what an opinion is and Jack does it all the time to people he disagrees with. It really hurts when you make a claim not realizing it describes one of your buddies.

Again, based on your statements, Jack Bauer's comments on this blog are worthless. Either stand by it or apologize to AA and admit you weren't correct.

Maybe you should try to read my posts a bit closer. You will also see that one thing is constant in all my posts. My love and admiration for this country of yours. I just don't get why people are so hateful when it comes to politics. We can watch a ballgame together but then the insults fly when it comes to politics. Nothing I have ever said in my posts or my life have ever expressed any anger or dislike for America or the American people. And I rip into Africans, English, American, French - anyone - who I think is being a bigot. Or who are trying to tell me they know better but won't actually talk like grownups. That doesn't make me hate the country or the people.

And it is not only politics. Someone want to tell me I shouldn't eat meat. Stuff them - I'll argue with them as well. Someone want to disrepect women. I'll come after them as well. Someone want to sell me how to solve global warming, but not think about how we can deal with that and all the other trouble in Africa - I'll argue with them as well. I don't discriminate mate. I have been called too white and too black. Thick skinned. I don't care about personal insults. That's playground talk. But stuff that impacts people's lives - that I care about. But it doesn't make me hate them. (Except for Rush - he is a bigot who supported Apartheid. Anyone who stands for that is wrong).

I do what you do - criticize those I don't agree with and hope to have some level of argument where we can walk away and still share a beer (or coffee) afterwards.

Also, I have the right to talk about your politics. And I have the right to write and engage about it. Two reasons. (i) I pay taxes over here. Why should the other guys have the right to get a green card and citizenship and not me? Because they lap up what you say? That's nitpicking my friend. Then no Yankee supporter should be allowed in America either. We don't like them (except if you are a Yankee). It's called democracy - we are different with different views. But unified in supporting Americans. Just not every single stupid policy, right? (2). Leon said it - you mingle in other politics why not the same treatment for you? Look at Kosovo and Serbia. Look at Cuba. Look at Palestine. Venezuala. etc etc etc. Pick your fight. But expect any right you have to be transfered without bigotry to others.

sort of. Just turned the other way. The government here tax the poor to death and give tax breaks to the rich. And - this is a cool form of socialism - they socialize losses instead of profits! That is way cool dude. You run your company at a loss - No Bearings on our money. The government will bail you out. Farmers can't farm competitively? No problem. Government will give you big fat subsidies. Oil companies struggling (or making record profits and paying someone a $400 million golden handshake) no problem we'll give you even more money. Now that is socialism. But socialism for only the rich. You don't like socialists? Then start with those who are spending your money on susbsidizing others who don't desrve it. Like democracy under Apartheid - only a few benefit. So is socialism here - only a few will benefit. The uber rich. Don't fall for that line that says there is no socialism in this economy. Follow the money trail.
