You don’t see this every day. In a fierce Maryland fight for a majority-black seat in Congress, Rep. Al Wynn’s campaign filed a complaint against Donna Edwards, the leftist challenger that he barely beat in the last election cycle. The Washington Post reported he said in a conference call with reporters: "There seems to be a vast, dare I say, left-wing conspiracy designed to circumvent campaign finance laws." Wynn is being challenged as too conservative, even though he has a lifetime American Conservative Union rating of 9.9 percent.
Edwards (the candidate the Post noted was supported in the cold by actor Danny Glover) is on leave as executive director of the Arca Foundation, a hard-left philanthropy. Its newest focus is on media groups – including $50,000 to Media Matters for America to monitor religious broadcasting (think Pat Robertson on "The 700 Club.")
To make sure he doesn't sound conservative, Wynn has also charged in a press release that the “Arca Foundation, where Edwards is executive director, holds $1.8 million in investments in multi-national oil and gas companies including almost $1 million in investments in Exxon-Mobil and Halliburton.” He probably did that because Edwards is cartooning him as a Halliburton buddy.
The New York Sun has also reported on the race.

No democracy in Maryland
January 30, 2008 - 12:15 ET by not_lima_HFrom the nysun article (my bold):
“In a primary set for February 12, Rep. Albert Wynn, who represents parts of two Maryland counties adjacent to Washington, is facing an array of liberal organizations and unions intent on defeating him, including EMILY's List, the League of Conservation Voters, MoveOn.org, the National Organization for Women, the national Service Employees International Union, the Sierra Club, and a local of the United Food & Commercial Workers.”
Anyone left in this state that thinks their vote counts is either clueless or a willing fool. For a congressional seat that already has a liberal incumbent, all these communist organizations (that you partially finance) have come together to take it even further left. Their money, the lock-step msm, registered illegals (courtesy of your local MVA) and a radical left state government are too much for a vote (if it’s counted) to have any influence. Once in office, our politicians are owned by special interest and lobbyist and that’s who they reward. For example, the majority of voters don’t want amnesty for illegals but this state’s government welcomes them with benefits. La Raza is happy but citizens can be damned. IMO they brought this on themselves.
What has Wynn done?
January 30, 2008 - 12:48 ET by WingletDriverWhat has Wynn done to draw the ire of all of these far out groups? Holy mackerel, this is scary to think that a dyed-in-the-wool lib isn't "progressive" enough for these wackos.
At the same time, we get to hear from the MSM about how the GOP needs to be a "big tent" (which means ignore their conservative base). But Wynn can't even vote for an energy bill without becoming a pariah.
