On NPR’s evening newscast All Things Considered on Tuesday night, anchor Melissa Block talked to primary voters in Milford, New Hampshire, and the liberal ones were very expressive. One touted Hillary as "Mother Earth...a mother to take care of the country," and another broke down into tears at the similarities in the hopes inspired by Barack Obama and John F. Kennedy. She began with Steven Shaheen, making no effort to confirm or deny whether he was related to former New Hampshire Gov. Jeanne Shaheen:
STEVEN SHAHEEN: I just feel the country needs a woman to run this country. I think it needs like a Mother Earth. It needs a mother to take care of the country.
BLOCK, struck by the analogy: Mother Earth.
SHAHEEN: That’s how I feel, I mean, personally. She struck me as the person with more experience, she seems, you know, with a lot of intelligence, a lot of education, and it's a gut feeling inside — can't really put words to that.
Block talked to a Romney voter, and a man who chose McCain over Giuliani as he stood in the voting booth. But they were straightforward and unemotional. Block ended with state Rep. Gil Shattuck, who far outdid Hillary Clinton by breaking down into tears as he proudly displayed his Obama button. Obama "represents the hope of real change in Washington that many of us have not felt [starts crying]...since Kennedy."
Let's hope Block was carrying Kleenex. Block told her fellow anchors in Washington it was "such a surprising moment for me," with the old pol "getting so emotional there remembering his hopes with the election of JFK, and remembering the tragedy that followed."

This is the "reward" for Dr. Spock's methodology of child raising. What an ass - NPR and Spock.
No wonder Islamofascist think they can kick our butts when they see this crap on their satellite TV's.

What the heck is "2nd stage Transgendered"? Is that a booster rocket of a gay rocket ship? Not sure I want to know too much.

Or.. a real mess!
I've probably seen that on the tv show Cops but have removed it from further consciousness.
Seriously, I'm not convinced that society is helping all these folks by encouraging anything and everything.

Mother Earth is not pleased
January 9, 2008 - 00:39 ET by Lame CherryThe BBC carried both Hillary's and Obama's speeches tonight and as I blogged in another posting, Hillary's voice is tired, relates going through the motions and is not at all pleased she won.
Hopefully, Newsbusters can link to a feed of the speech, because except for a few smiles which seemed genuine at the beginning........this was a woman who was not at all wanting this to continue. She was almost scowling at the end. Sure her speech said everything it should, but it was monotone and if one listens to her voice it was one of knowing she was not going to win this thing and it was all a sham.
Obama as I noted was worried and trying to show his best winning front, but his voice was scared and knowing defeat.
I fully expect Hillary Clinton to do some strange thing to try and loose the next primaries again. Today Bill and her both slapped around black voters and that is where they are going into next. That does not make sense unless one wants to loose.

January 9, 2008 - 00:46 ET by Cool ArrowBambi did a good job of channeling MLK. It's a stroke of Communications genius if you think about it. The young voters of today may not have been exposed to a lot of taped speeches in Public School, but every one of them has extensive exposure to the speeches of King.
These kids recognize the cadence of King in Obama as surely as a chick follows after the cluck of its mother.

Youth are more interested
January 9, 2008 - 01:19 ET by stratmanYouth are more interested in "image", the perception of substance and "sticking it to the man". Obama fills the bill.
I'm not sure who should be more insulted, B.O. or Millie Vanilli.

That is very frightening.
January 9, 2008 - 01:49 ET by stratmanThat is very frightening. Someone in this forum wrote about the stages of decay of a society and voting in unrestrained entitlements was one.
I hope the three branches of government will do their jobs to mitigate an ignorant population from crippling our nation. Unfortunately, we may only have the Supreme Court to prevent severe/extreme damage for the next four years while the Democrat led House and Senate perform their 'death by a thousand cuts' dance.

}}---> thousand cuts
January 9, 2008 - 02:04 ET by Cool ArrowI don't think it would take a flood of entitlements to bring this economy down.
Just a bit of steering in that direction could start a panic.
We could see it as early as the determination of the two final candidates. The market is thus far "playable" but we could see a massive redirection of self directed 401k's as the electoral picture gets clearer.
They may vote with their guilt this time, but they'll try their best to shield their retirement plans from the volatile market they create.

Exactly, you nailed it on
January 9, 2008 - 09:29 ET by TheConservativeChemistExactly, you nailed it on the head. Obama is young and is a "rock star" who bucks the status quo (or so they think!) so college kids and idiotic 20 somethings (I'm approaching 30 but I'm not a lefty so it's all good! :-) ) gravitate to this in droves. As someone who has been on college campuses for 11 years now (4 years for undergrad, 5 for PhD, 2 for postdoctoral work) I've seen this firsthand through three elections now. In 2000 it was Gore because he hung around that other "rock star", Bill Clinton. Then in 2004 it was Kerry because even though he had the personality of a dog turd, he stuck it to the country from the minute he got back from Vietnam. And now it's Obama. Funny how lefty voters gravitate toward those who embody attitudes and actions most of us outgrew around 20 years old (or once we started working for a living)
I've been thinking for years the voting age needs to be raised, or you should at least need to show proof that you actually earn a living and pay taxes and contribute to society in order to have a say in it (if you're over 18). What the hell does some 19 yr old college kid whose mom and dad pay for everything have to be voting for? These are kids who couldn't get a loan or buy a car on their own yet they should decide if our borders are open or if we should surrender in Iraq? Why do you think the left aggressively campaigns on college campueses? Their platform sounds great to Jimmy and Jenny who go to a $30,000 a year school, not so much for mom and dad who foot the bill back home. What's next, 12 yrs olds needing a say in how the country is run?
I read somewhere that the vast majority of 18-30 yr olds vote democrat while most 35 and older vote republican. It figures...once you have to earn a living, raise kids, and support a family, high taxes, abortion, a weak military, socialism, paying for those who refuse to work, illegal immigration, and a whole host of other disasters don't sound so great!

I can tell you that Steven
January 9, 2008 - 09:18 ET by TheConservativeChemistI can tell you that Steven Shaheen *is* the husband of former NH Democratic governor (and Clinton-cheerleader) Jeanne Shaheen. He's also a big-shot lawyer with his office in my hometown. I'm a NH native and my family has been friends with the Shaheens for years (Jeanne was my dad's high school english teacher, they have been longtime friends of my grandparents, we were invited to her inaguration ball, etc). But don't worry, my family are all conservatives! While friendly with them, they are very very liberal and thanks to Jeanne's governorship, we now have a democratic governor (Lynch) who has made gay marriage legal...in NH!!!! Not surprising that the MSM would leave this out
NH has been trying to emulate Massachusetts the last 10 years or so and it's ruining the state. The only thing NH still has going for it is no sales tax, no income tax, and a LOT of real Americans (conservatives!) living north of Manchester/Nashua/Concord. But the gay marriage, VERY high property taxes, "redistribution" of school funding, the highest in-state tuition for a state university in the country, and creeping entries into personal life are killing the state. As someone who's family has been in NH since they came over from Europe almost 100 years ago, this is very sad for me.
But I digress...
