Nina Burleigh vs. The 'Insomniac Internet Goon' at NewsBusters

By Tim Graham | December 3, 2007 - 18:27 ET

Former Time reporter Nina Burleigh is unhappy she was criticized on NewsBusters for her Clinton-defending review in The Washington Post of Sally Bedell Smith’s book For Love of Politics. She lamented on The Huffington Post on Saturday night that before many could even read the review, "an apparently insomniac internet goon named Tim Graham had penned a screed dissing The Washington Post for having me review the book. Graham is the lifetime College Republican running ‘Media Research Center,’ one of the most persistent groups to express shock and awe over what one of the newsweekly wags called my "quote of the century." Those unfamiliar with my sarcastic remark need only google my name and the word blowjob."

Other than Nina recalling her infamous quote about fellatio for abortion-rights presidents, just how much of this is wrong? I don’t "run" the MRC; I work several levels below the pinnacle. I was never a College Republican, although I did work at the RNC as a minimum-wage phone fundraiser in the late 1980s in my first years in Washington. I did post my critique at 6:35 in the morning, but I sleep like a rock, so that should at worst make me a "early-rising Internet goon." A longer look at Burleigh’s article also strangely calls me part of the "self-righteous and supposedly apolitical establishment" that rules Washington. What a strange passage, in which I am also a troll:

Returning to D.C. always brings back memories of my happy years there during the '90s when I made lots of friends and met the man I ended up marrying. It also reminds me why I don't miss living there now: the self-righteous and supposedly apolitical establishment that rules the nation's capitol...

Not terribly surprised was I to note that before that day's paper had even been opened by the average Washingtonian, (wait, make that the average New Yorker, the average Washingtonian has already jogged around the Mall and donned a uniform before the average New Yorker has smelled a cup of coffee) an apparently insomniac internet goon named Tim Graham had penned a screed dissing The Washington Post for having me review the book. Graham is the lifetime College Republican running "Media Research Center," one of the most persistent groups to express shock and awe over what one of the newsweekly wags called my "quote of the century." Those unfamiliar with my sarcastic remark need only google my name and the word blowjob.

I said it (back in 1998, but a good quote has eternal life) because I thought it was high time for someone to tweak the white, middle-aged beltway gang taking Clinton to task for sexual harassment. These men had neither the personal experience nor the credentials to know sexual harassment when they saw it, nor to give a good goddamn about it if they did. The insidious use of sexual harassment laws to bring down a president for his pro-female politics was the context in which I spoke.

Within days of my review of her book, author Sally Bedell Smith herself had taken up the trolls' cry, smashing one of my naive assumptions about best-selling authors, which is that they are above ad hominem attacks on reviewers. Before turning to the evergreen (in terms of marketability) subject of the Clinton marital mysteries, Smith, a member in good standing of the Washington establishment, made a handsome living with major books about pop/haute figures like Princess Di and Pam Harriman. In her online Post discussion, she slagged me as "discredited" and "unprofessional" and repeated the absolute lie that I "tried to have sex with" Bill Clinton.

For the record, Ms. Smith, anyone who actually tried to have sex with Bill Clinton probably succeeded.

Wow

I'm impressed Tim.  I read the post, and you are right.  All you did was point out the fervor that Nina drooled over the prospect of "performing" for Bill.

We can all hope to cause this level of invective from the left by simply doing our jobs (whether paid or not) and tweaking them every chance we get!

MU got hosed by BCS!

Absolutely

MISSOURI DID GET HOSED!

Forgive the offtopic, but...

Missouri didn't get hosed, they got beat by OK. OK is the team that got hosed. They beat the number one team in the country, the team that would have gone to the BCS championship game had they won. OK beat them and should be going in their place!

Missouri hosed themselves by letting themselves get beat, handidly, I might add! I was there, it wasn't pretty.

If you hamper the war effort of one side, you automatically help out that of the other. --George Orwell

MU and OU

Not saying that OU didn't get hosed.  Just saying that Missouri deserved a BCS bowl since they were ranked #6 in the BCS.  Kansas, at #8, is in the Orange, and Illinois, at #13, is in the Rose.  What do both of those have in common?  Both lost to Missouri.

A playoff system is needed, and needed now!

MU got hosed by BCS!

Tim Graham has arrived!

You know you're onto something when the liberal media attacks you by name. Wear it like a badge of honor!

And about her getting the facts wrong - that just makes it all the more entertaining. There is nothing more fun than watching a liberal slam someone with exaggerated points!

The most dangerous thing in the world is an angry person with political power.

Congratulations, Tim!

Now all the other NBrs will be envious of your "badge of honor"

Tim good job.  Now since your promotion is effective I would ask for more money and better recognition at NB and MRC.  Asn you make a very dashing troll.  LOL  I do remember her saying she would gladly service Billy boy for his stance on abortion.

Haha! Now she's calling her offer of a BJ for Bill "sarcastic?"

Hahaha!

Obviously, Tim, she's PO'd because she didn't have the entire blogosphere to herself....couldn't spread her version without contradiction.

Boo hoo, Nina.  Maybe Bill will console you....like you said, all you have to do is make the offer....again.

How old is this bimbo?

and you have to wonder how she thinks that interns should be "stuffed" when she remarks "to tweak the white, middle-aged beltway gang taking Clinton to task for sexual harassment." - One has to conclued that harassment is a GOOD thing (according to her) and that anyone who thinks differently is out of touch. For a 47 yo, U of Chicago grad, her parents should be proud they didn't submit to her ideas of sex.

From the NYT:

"Last summer, Ms. Burleigh became a mini-celebrity after writing in Mirabella magazine about sitting in a short green skirt aboard Air Force One and playing Hearts with President Clinton. The article, in which she mused about the flirtatious feelings she had for the President and the attractions of powerful men in general, earned her attention, criticism and a new nickname. (The columnist Ellen Goodman, of The Boston Globe, dubbed her ''the Ally McBeal of former White House reporters.''

It is a link to the NYT article about her wedding.  Interesting information, like one month into her marriage, she went on a date with her current husband.  Maybe she used her "presidential kneepads" there, too.

A couple of questions for

A couple of questions for this blowhard (pun intended), Nina Burleigh:

1) What, exactly, is a lifetime College Republican?

2) You claim that "These men had neither the personal experience nor the credentials to know sexual harassment when they saw it".  So you're saying that Ted Kennedy had such personal experience when he interrogated Clarence Thomas?  Interesting.  Please explain.

3) For the record, Ms. Smith, anyone who actually tried to have sex with Bill Clinton probably succeeded.  And, yet, you didn't succeed.  And with Hillary and Monica among the notches on his bedpost, that doesn't say much about you, does it?  No one buys your claim that you...didn't...try...to have...sexual relations...with that creep, Mr. Clinton.

From the same blog that

From the same blog that dissed Tim:

"Besides the sanctimony, what really gets me about Smith and these D.C. establishment women is that they are of the age and experience, being the first females in their fields, to have personally known sexual harassment. They know the difference between being a victim of sexual harassment and flashing a thong at the boss. Yet not a single one of them stood up to explain that during Clinton's impeachment, nor, to my knowledge, since."

So, Monica was not harassed in any way.  Instead, it was her fault!  Liberals excuse any kind of behavior when perpetrated by one of their own.  But tap your feet in a bathroom...

MU got hosed by BCS!

They know the difference

They know the difference between being a victim of sexual
harassment and flashing a thong at the boss. Yet not a single one of
them stood up to explain that during Clinton's impeachment, nor, to my
knowledge, since."

Actually someone did stand up to explain, but not for Monica Lewinsky. One of the big NOW babes (I think it was Gloria Steinem, but I'm not sure) explained that Clinton's dropping trou for Paula Jones in a hotel room wasn't harrassment, it was simply a case of "crude courtship."

But, "they know the difference!"

Brilliant Satire

Ms. Burleigh states:

"These men had neither the personal experience nor the credentials to know sexual harassment when they saw it, nor to give a good goddamn about it if they did. The insidious use of sexual harassment laws to bring down a president for his pro-female politics was the context in which I spoke."

These two sentences are rich. "These men" included Henry Hyde, who the Dems immediately outed as an adulterer himself. Strike 1, Nina.

"Insidious use of sexual harassment laws"? First of all, the last time I checked it was the feminists like Nina who demanded such laws be put into force. The fact that people like Nina gave Clinton a total pass on engaging in an exploitive sexual relationship, in the workplace, with a woman who was not only young enough to be his daughter but was also a subordinate, shows their utter hypocrisy. Strike 2, Nina.

"to bring down a president for his pro-female politics"

First of all, Clinton was never "brought down". Second, how is the behavior Bill exhibited with Ms. Lewinsky "pro-female politics"? Strike 3, Nina. You whiffed.

And you know, Del, to

And you know, Del, to liberals, it's not the sin, it's the hypocrisy!!

Well they raised hypocrisy to an art form in the Paula Jones case. When their boy Bill practiced "crude courtship" by dropping his pants in front of her, they not only defended him, they trashed her.

When James Carville made his famous "drag a hunned dollar bill thew a trailer park" line, they collectively stuck their fingers in their ears and sang LALALALALALA.

It's all water over the dam, so I won't go into any more. But Burleigh really should think twice about bringing all that stuff up again, while Mrs. Bill is running. Not a good idea to remind us, and get the country thinking "do we really want to go through all that again?"

Better to let sleeping hound dogs lie.

they collectively stuck their fingers in their ears

Exactly! Some woman aren't worth defending against sexual harrassment, as evidenced by the abandonment of Paula Jones by the femi-nazis. But when it's Anita Hill against a conservative man, all of a sudden they're scarred for life at the mention of a pubic hair.

Look At The Numbers

You'd think that all this stuff would havr had a chance to sink in with the easily brainwashed populace, but it hasn't. Bill's "favorability" these days is actually higher than when he left office. Be VERY afraid.

Tim. Whew.. I alwarys thought..

Tim.  So many directions to go.. OK. Whew.. I always thought.. that it was the left side of the isle, the Democrats, who really provided both the historical perspective (burn the bra, equality in the work place (equal pay, etc.)) and the emotional activism which brought national attention, and hence, legislation to the issue of sexual harassment of women - especially in the work place.

In fact, there was an all out war, except in Hollywood where knee pads are still required (of both sexes, these days), to establish the work place guidelines that are common place in the workplace in the US, today. To wit: thou shalt not screw around with anyone else in this office, especially subordinates.

Notably, the focus of this activism was directed at the upper level brass (although it has indeed trickled down to all in the workplace). All of us clearly understands not only the risk of losing one's job, but also the legal and hence the potential monetary cost of getting sued for sexual harassment. No one is safe. All it takes is an off-color sexual joke, or innuendo, or a pass. In today's government office setting and in corporate America and in the private company, everyone is aware, that f----ing down can result in one's getting f___ed up. Consensual relationships are not condoned. Consensual sexual passes are not condoned. And if you tell an off color joke, you'd better be watching your back.

In the military, this is not "don't ask, don't tell" territory. A superior getting caught having sexual relations with a subordinate - is grounds for a court martial. No ifs, ands or buts.

Did I mention that the President [Clinton] was not only "Commander 'n Chief of the armed forces, but also ran the most important government in the world, and worked in the county's most important governmental office - that office being the highest office of the people?

The left should have demanded that Clinton be fired.

She (this one being Monica - the others were not all so consensual)was some 37 years younger. She was an unpaid volunteer. The known events occurred in the White House, in the offices of the president of the United Sates, that highest office of the people in the land.

Reference: Clinton/Lewinski Contact Log. I counted 10 of those presidential favors which Nina Burleigh would be so pleased to hand out. I have but one question for Ms. Burleigh. You're more than willing to offer up the same services for a woman president I presume - or, are you a homophobic hypocrite?

Goodness! One critical

Goodness! One critical article from you and the lib ran screeching to the Huff and Puff?

You should post a warning on your keyboards-WARNING: Lethal to LIBS.

Good job Tim.

Nina oh Nina come blow your horn

Mr. Graham, it is personally shocking to know you are a goon as I have always found you brilliant and graceful of thought. It is reprehensible of you as an awkward stupid person (definition of a goon) to be faking it here.

I sincerely hope Mr. Graham that you might contact Ms. Burleigh's employer and ask her to submit to a vocabulary test as she apparently has no understanding in word usage. The Washington Post must be a wonderfully doltish employer to have such ignorant writers collecting checks there.

With a smile, I do sit here pondering what is really ticking off Nina Burleigh........here she worked so hard on her review and in seconds you, Mr. Graham had out brained her.

Nina Burliegh, this is your brain on feminism..........Tim Graham, but God's grace this is his brain on Conservatism.

Tim

Love your post's last sentence.

The insidious use of sexual

The insidious use of sexual harassment laws to bring down a president for his pro-female politics

Huh?  First of all, it is patently erroneous to say Clinton was brought down for his pro-female politics.  Assuming "pro female politics" means legalized abortion, if we started taking down (excuse the expression) politicians for having "pro female politics", the ranks of elected officials in Washington would quickly be reduced by at least two thirds.  No one was after him for his "pro female politics".

Secondly, no one harassed him.  Kathleen Willey, Paula Jones and the victim of the extreme form of it, Juanita Broadrick.  He harassed them.  He was a serial sexual harasser.  And when Jones did sue him for sexual harassing her, he lied about it under oath.  Did Ms. Burleigh utter a peep about that?

Ms. Burleigh is in the dubious ranks of those who claim to be feminists - or at least pro woman in the broader (damn these adjectives) sense of the term - but have sided squarely with the powerful male instead of the weak female.

I never cease to be

amazed when I hear these duplicitous females talking out of both sides of their mouths.  I believe the word is spelled h y p o c r i t e!

I cannot understand how a woman supposedly supporting other women's rights can boldly ignore harrassment situations whenever it suits them.

Kind of reminds me of those who are against the death penalty but are for killing unborn children.

Or another female in the news who wants to be "one of the boys" until the playing gets too tough, then is immediately "just a poor little girl" who has to have her husband come out to the playground to beat up on the big bad bullies.

Indeed it is toooo bad that the two Cs came up with pardons offered in exchange for votes - I never thought the voters in NY would have been so gullible.  It just goes to show you that they will stop at nothing!  Gives us a little sample of what we will be witnessing in the next few months.

Another far-left slattern.

Another far-left slattern.

Just for You, Nina

Sometimes I stay awake all night wondering just how big a slut Nina Burleigh is.
