Bill Press: Liberals Have No TV Network, No Op-Ed Pages

Photo of Tim Graham.

In a recent CBN News report by Melissa Charbonneau on the Fairness Doctrine, jaws dropped across the conservative-Christian segment of America at this section:

Liberals, such as radio host Bill Press, say it's only fair for government to rein in right-wing broadcasters who dominate the airwaves licensed by the government.

"Conservatives rule talk radio," Press said. "Conservatives have their own powerful television network: the only one, the most powerful in the country, the most watched. Liberals have none. Conservatives rule the op-ed pages of all the newspapers."

I was invited in to discuss our PBS Special Report on how there's not exactly a Fairness Doctrine ruling the increasingly liberal taxpayer-funded network. It's a good thing I wasn't in the middle of a glass of water when that quote aired.

Anchor Lee Webb asked me to respond to Press, and I simply said that's not the way conservatives see it. Maybe I should have just said "Bill Press knows better."

Is this a joke?

Anchor Lee Webb asked me to respond to Press, and I simply said that's
not the way conservatives see it. Maybe I should have just said "Bill
Press knows better."

I think I would have asked, "is that a joke? Serioulsy, you're kidding right? Your serious when you say that conservatives run the op-ed of the NY Times, LA Times and the PI? Actually, the only way I can see that you are being serious and honest is that you are SO FAR left that from where you sit, all these forms of media are very far to your right."

I guess it's all a matter of perception. This guy needs to come out of his bubble and see what every one else sees.

If you hamper the war effort of one side, you automatically help out that of the other. --George Orwell

He is right about Op-eds

Simply because liberal newspapers no longer isolate "opinion" to the op-ed section and actually begin their opinion with their banner headlines and run their opinion right on through all articles. So op-eds are no different than a front page story.

I think I would have asked,

I think I would have asked, "is that a joke?

My first thought upon reading that was "Did he actually say that with a straight face????"

Press

Crack? Smack? Whatever it is it sure has made mush out of Press's brain

A COUPLE THINGS...

I really think Press believe what he is saying here. He is part of a segment of folks who really think that the media can never be far eniugh to the left, that they should be a monolith. Press is a true progressive, so anything where the market dictates something else is bad.

Where Press is wrong is that outside of talk radio(which he is part of)& FoxNewsChannel, the MSM is almost all lefties. The problem is that the traditional legacy media operations are losing their grip on power. The big 3 networks have been losing audience numbers every year, the newpapers are cutting costs all the time, & CNN & MSNBC combined get beat up badly by Fox. Press sees the writing on the wall & does'nt like it. Many of those who think like Press are the people who wish to mandate "balance" in the media because they cannot compete in the free market.

"Some of us are wise, some of us are otherwise"  Mark Levin

Why concede the term

Why concede the term "progressive" to left-wing scum like Bill Press?  There is nothing "progressive" about liberalism.  Bill Press is a regressive.

Press is Harmless

All one needs to know about Bill Press's sanity and intelligence is that he was thoroughly hoodwinked by the bogus "Lovenstein Institute" story of a few years ago.

In furtherance of the hoax, late in 2001 pranksters thought to register www.lovenstein.org and erect a web site around it in an attempt to fool people into thinking there really was such an institute.

For those who were on Jupiter at that time, this was a story that claimed that Dubyah had the lowest IQ of any President in the past 50 years, less than 100. Billy Press fell for it hook, line and sinker. Part of his commentary:

"The smartest president of the last 50 years?

You guessed it: Bill Clinton, with his 182 IQ.

The least intelligent president of the last 50 years?

You guessed it again: George W. Bush, with his rock bottom IQ of 91: seven points lower than his Daddy.

So now we know. Iraq, Iran, North Korea, Social Security, Medicare, Stem Cells, FEMA, the deficit, immigration…

The reason George Bush has screwed up in so many areas the last six years.

He’s not just incompetent. He’s just plain dumb – the dumbest president in the last 50 years. And, probably, the dumbest president ever!

That’s my parting shot for today. I’m Bill Press."

When he was busted, his "apology" was absolutely hilarious:

"I’ll admit I was wrong. I goofed. I cited a study ranking George Bush as having the lowest IQ of any of the last 12 presidents. Bill Clinton, scoring the highest. As I later discovered, that study was bogus. There is no so-called Lovenstein Institute.

Again, I’ll admit I was wrong.

But you’ve got to admit: It sure is believable. Does anybody doubt that Bill Clinton’s the smartest - and George Bush is the dumbest? Just look at his record.

Iraq. That dumbbell took us to war to get rid of WMD that didn’t even exist.

The Middle East. He’s so dumb he doesn’t know the first step toward ending a war is for both sides to stop shooting.

Global warming. Miami will be underwater before he realizes there’s a problem.

The budget. He couldn’t balance a budget if his job depended on it. Too bad it doesn’t.

See what I mean? Who needs a study? It’s self-evident.

George Bush is not only the dumbest of all 12 presidents since World War II.

He’ll go down in history - as the dumbest president…ever!"

Classic Line, Del

"The Middle East. He’s so dumb he doesn’t know the first step toward ending a war is for both sides to stop shooting."

I think common wisdom is that the first person to STOP shooting loses.

Too Much

He also forgets that Bill Clinton's war of choice in Kosovo didn't have much shooting (if any) at all.

Corallary is that the guy

Corallary is that the guy who fires the last bullet usually wins! Except maybe in the Middle East! I believe it was Tom Brokaw who walked into a muslim village in the Lebonese Bakaa Valley and saw a group of armed villagers headed down the road. When he asked where they were going, they said they were going to attack a christian village. "Why", Brokaw asked, and they said the christians had attacked them and they wanted revenge. Tom looked around and didn't see any damage so he asked "when did this happen? 600 years ago he was told. That's the Middle East, go figure!

Exposes how liberal American liberals are

Great post Mr. Graham as people have to start realizing just how "liberal" American liberals are when they think Katie Couric, Junior Cuomo and Chris Matthews are right wing.

To understand American liberals, you have to understand they think the New York Times is Conservative as it backs Joe Stalin in butchering 40 million people.........and is consistantly anti American in every editorial.

Conservatives see this correctly and wonder how on earth anyone with a brain could conclude it.........it is because American liberals are more communist than communists.

Think of it, not one peep about China cutting organs out of prisoners and selling them nor one protest about Chinese police capturing a pregnant woman and ripping her 9 month old child out murdering it.......all in population control.

American liberals are not barbarians, but literal savages. This is how in like mullah Islamocommunist diatribes all the world is a "redland" and worthy of death because they are not one of these "liberals".

It is past time that liberals end the L word of Bush 41 and literally be defined as savages as that is exactly what they are. Dehydrating to death Terri Schiavo, butchering children in aborticide, dumping money into black communities and Indian communities for their genocide........that is all akin to Soviet and Nazi regimes and it is exactly what Pelosi, Reid, Kennedy, Edwards, Clinton etc... are all about.

"Conservatives have their

"Conservatives have their own powerful television network: the only one, the most powerful in the country, the most watched. Liberals have none.

Maybe that's because conservatism has a much greater appeal than liberalism which is why consistently far more people watch Foxnews than their competitors, and why conservative talk radio has far greater audiences than any liberal talk format.

That can't be it Gat

(Liberal thought process)

That can't be it.  The whole world is liberal, they just don't know it yet, because we don't have a news channel that slanders conservatives 24/7.

"Conservatives have their

"Conservatives have their own powerful television network: the only one, the most powerful in the country, the most watched.

And that just drives them absolutely NUTS!!!!

fox is conservative? i

fox is conservative? i don't hink so

geraldo? greta? BOR?

Is this guy for real?  No

Is this guy for real?  No liberal radio?  No liberal Op-Ed pages? No liberal TV stations?

This man doesn't understand the market does he?  They rule the radio because people listen to them.  Why do you think Airhead America went Broke?  Poor management?  NO! No market for thae you ding bat!

Foxnews has made it because it is fair in it's coverage on both sides.  ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN... these are conservative? When the heck did that happen?

No Liberal OP-ed pages?  What news paper is he reading?  The NYT, LA Times, and almost every major news paper in the country is liberal.

Do me a favor Press, DO SOME RESEARCH!!!!!

The only thing you should feel when shooting insurgents is the rifle recoil.

Press Has His Own Radio Show

Bill's on the air daily in over 20 markets. It's also carried by Sirius Satellite Radio. My guess is he's unhappy about crappy ratings?

The Libs have ABC, CBS,

The Libs have ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, just to name the broadcast media. And then Rush Limbaugh says something, and they claim they have to get "equal time" to balance what he says.

Well, as Rush likes to say: He IS the "equal time".

Rationality

Yeah, this is not a point that you can rebut rationally, since it wasn't based on rationality in the first place. It's good to recall the Buckley advice -- even if you geometrically demonstrated an argument, liberals wouldn't change their minds, so don't bother engaging in rational debate with them.

You're never going to convince Bill Press. All you can do is keep putting out a reasonable argument for fair-minded people to consider, and trust that the marketplace of ideas is not a rigged game. Reason will out. Liberalism sounds good in the short term, but it sucks in the long term. The mistake is to get angry at the Bill Presses and Keith Olbermanns and Bill Mahers, and descend into their irrationality. Every post that concerns those guys, as well as Rosie and Joy and Whoopie, is a temptation.

In my opinion, Tim, you guys are doing exactly what needs to be done. You expose the liberal bias, but you don't froth at the mouth. You show the bias, but you present it calmly and argue it rationally. I wonder, though, if you guys do what I have to do. When I read about these outrages, sometimes I rush to the keyboard and blow my stack. Then, after a few minutes, I take a long hard look at the [Post comment] button, and the preview. Then I usually go back and edit out as much emotion as possible. One of the reasons my posts are so long is that I have to burn off the frustration at these idiocies. Do you guys have a ten-second rule or something?

Bill Press's mind is made

Bill Press's mind is made up. Don't confuse him with facts.

And KC, I know what you mean about blowing your stack at the keyboard. Sometimes I start to comment, and then just quit because it would take 2000 words to get it all out, and I end up deleting the comment. Like the newest one about Joy Behar...I started, and in a bit, I thought, you know this is dumb, it's a full-time job for someone responding to the stupid things she says, and she will just say something just as stupid tomorrow. So I give up. LOL

Agreed

According to the ratings, The View reaches about a million viewers every week, which is about the same as Olbermann and Larry King. So she's worth a mention. Not much more, but a mention. Fortunately, the misguided things she says don't take long to refute.

I guess this is life in the word processing age. In the old days, extroverts like me wouldn't invest the time in writing to the editor, because while I was writing it, I'd be changing my mind anyway. But a word processor made it feasible, because now I can write something, change my mind, move paragraphs around, etc. The word processor multiplied the number of us willing to express an opinion, and the internet gave us a place to express it.

The older you get

The more you believe, that liberalism is in fact a disease. It's the only way to explain the delusions and depravity of their arguments. It couldn't be that liberal ideas and policies are no good and not wanted by the majority of the American people.

Liberals are masters at

Liberals are masters at fooling the masses. They package their ideas with catch phrases like "Health care for children" or "Path to Citizenship".

On the surface the ideas sound good and anyone that would disagree is obvioulsy a "right wing whacko" who doesn't care about children or immigrants.

Where they fail everytime is the details. Those dirty details about how to accomplish these goals. Liberals think it is up to government to tax and legislate the worlds problems away. Conservatives, on the other hand (and for the most part) believe individual responsibility and accountability will prevail.

In reality we live somewhere in the middle but seem to be sliding down the slippery slope of the liberals, thanks to Hollywiered, MSM and power hungry liberal politicians.

I think Americans have been fooled long enough that they are not sure who to believe anymore. And I further believe that if you wanted to break liberals and conservatives down to two words they would be "idealists" vs "realists" respectively.

That's what I've noticed as I have gotten older... for what it's worth.

"There are two types of people in this country; those who provide freedom and those who enjoy it." MM says...

Good grief ...

Maybe we need to raise some funds for Bill to actually buy a TV and some newspaper subscriptions.

Also ... Do you notice the "one powerful network" he refers to is FNC, a cable network? He completely leapfrogs NBC, ABC, and CBS (not to mention the longer-existing CNN).

As far as the newspaper thing, Press should read the LA Times for starters.

These wackos really believe

These wackos really believe the media is mainstream. They are so far left that left looks right.

Always...

Bill Press may need a mood enhancer -- or a heavier dose.  Bill has always been angry at someone or about some alleged slight -- watch him in comparison with Pat Buchanon on Tucker's show -- his mouth constantly twitches and his eyes roll and he's just one miserable sucker.

Since PBS isn't a "liberal outlet"

I'm sure Bill Press is "for" defunding it & NPR entirely, just like me. Riiiiight....

Bill Press obviously hasn't

Bill Press obviously hasn't read the Op-Ed section of a certain Rocky Mountain Collegian.

Do research before you rant, Bill, else it makes you look like a moron. kthx

The Rocky Mountain Collegian: Illustrating Idiocy

Growing up in Southern

Growing up in Southern California, I was exposed to this creep's delusional rantings on KABC television from a very early age.  He's a patently dishonest, arrogant jerk who's somehow managed to continually find gainful employment as a pundit despite miserable ratings.  He was neck deep in that Clinton/Gore/Chinese scandal, as well.  You can tell he doesn't believe half the things he claims to, and is simply a prostitute for the left because that's where the money is.

I now can die in peace (when

I now can die in peace (when time comes) knowing that I have truely seen and heard it all!

Don't ya just love the

Don't ya just love the liberal's idea of fair, lol? Since no one wants to listen to us, it's only fair that government silence the competition. Next he'll be telling us that it's only fair for government to require every American to listen to 2 hours of liberal only broadcasting each day.

What a tool.

I’m reminded of the story

I’m reminded of the story about the slave in the coliseum buried up to his neck.  A ferocious animal plays with him by swiping at his ears with his paws.  The animal gets distracted and the slave manages to bite him in the nether region.  A comment is made that was wrong and he should “fight fair” instead.

Somebody please, give me

Somebody please, give me some of whatever Bill Press is smoking, injecting, or snorting!

Then I'll be able to see my personal debt like a glorious windfall.

drill, please let me know if it works.

Might just try it myself. :-)

Even liberals have stopped reading the NYT

This just proves that even liberals have stopped reading the New York Times.

Bill Press needs to undergo an MRI.

There is something seriously wrong with the man.
