Time Highlights Gorby Scolding Bush, Congress on Katrina Relief

Photo of Tim Graham.

In Time's 'Verbatim' section on page 21 this week, our democratically elected government is scolded by a former dictator of the former Soviet Union as he visited post-Katrina New Orleans:

'If things haven't changed by our next visit, we may have to announce a revolution.'

-- MIKHAIL GORBACHEV, former Soviet leader, on the slow recovery efforts in New Orleans' Lower Ninth Ward

Time left out a quote that followed, according to AP: "No matter the flooding and the hurricane, the red tape and bureaucracy survive," he said. Time doesn't ponder how long it might take the Russian government (or took the old U.S.S.R.) to dig out of disasters -- like Chernobyl. But they were always deeply impressed by Gorbachev, who they named "Man of the Decade" at the end of the 1980s, in an oh-so-obvious snub of Ronald Reagan.

Hey Gorby  " Twenty per

Hey Gorby  " Twenty per cent of former Soviet citizens live in "ecological disaster areas" with a loss of life expectancy of seven years and a high rate of infant mortality. (Shaw and Pryce, 1990, p.140) An overwhelming concentration on short-term economic growth with no consequence paid to long-term environmental consequences was a characteristic of the process of socialist construction in the USSR and Eastern Europe" Here.

danbo, how dare you diss

danbo, how dare you diss the man who ended the Cold War in spite of those two warmongers, Reagan and Thatcher???

The media experiences another "gorbasm".... rivaled only by the new phenomenon of "algorasm".

Shame on me. How can I do

Shame on me. How can I do that to the man who was thrown out (let me correct that) loved by his own people.

Not just that, but Russia

Not just that, but Russia holds 20 percent of the worlds forests, and they still had paper shortages.

Excuse me comrade, is this the "right line?"

You know that blotch on Gorbachev's head?

Herpes.. trust me.

It's all part of the

It's all part of the campaign to get a Nobel Peace Prize for Gorby.

He already got one in

He already got one in 1990...for the reason I stated in my reply to danbo above.

Didn't remember that.  MB,

Didn't remember that.  MB, not that I didn't beleive you, but I had to find a link so I could actually SEE Gorby listed as a winner.  Not only is that shocking, but when you look at all the other do nothing winners, like the UN and Kofi Annan in 2001, it really makes you sick.

Sick?

No, it just makes me write off the Nobel prizes as the new Liberal Awards, given to whomever the idiot committee likes the most.

whomever the idiot

whomever the idiot committee likes the most.

And depending on whoever they want to give "a kick in the leg" to.

Aye, that, too. It makes

Aye, that, too. It makes you wonder if every worthy award is destined to end up as a tool for political commentary by some elite few...

Yes, it is pathetic that he

Liberals in the US give him the credit for ending the Cold War, ignoring the fact that Reagan and Thatcher engineered the collapse of the Soviet empire. they are the ones who should have been awarded the Nobel. Gorbachev got the award, basically for saying "Uncle."

Sorry ... Gorby's

Sorry ... Gorby's right ... but aiming at the wrong target.

The local and state governments of New Orleans / Louisiana have CONTINUED to squander time, money, resources and trust since days before the hurricane hit. Their undying incompetence is testament to their failure to the people they were elected to serve and protect.

Yes! There should be a "revolution" in New Orleans and Louisiana ... A political revolution ... not just at the polls, but within the lazy minds of the citizens of that city and state.

You mean as medical

You mean as medical trailers that were and still may be sitting unused after fema provided them to the city.

But hey. We all know this is Bush's fault.

Katrina, The US Navy, The USCG, and the Lazy MSM

Lazy MSM.

You can go to navy.mil & uscg.mil and see pictures of Navy & Coast Guard ships & hellicopters involved in the post Katrina efforts.

Must be too hard for these "reporters" to point-and-click.

For example:

Approximately one-third of the Coast Guard’s entire air fleet was
deployed to the region to support rescue operations in the immediate aftermath of the storm.

You don't have to tell me.

You don't have to tell me. In the week after Katrina. I spent a good bit of time parked on the side of or on an overpass over I-10 16 miles east of the Louisiana/Mississippi state line. I saw the convoys going through. Toward New Orleans. I heard on the news they were being held somewhere near Gonzales.

Though we got a lot of help. (I'd like to thank those Coast Gardsmen along with a lot of others.) But if Louisiana didn't think they needed it. We could have used more.

BTW There were so many

BTW There were so many helecopters in the air. The sound of helecopters was pretty much constant for at least 3 or so weeks after the storm

He just can't get over

He just can't get over being defeated by Ronaldus Magnus.

"Tear down this wall!"  still keeps Gorbastic Man up at night.

Gorbasms

I wonder how it feels to be the man who lost The Cold War?

Gorbachev must be a very bitter man.

Maybe Krenz should come work in New Orleans

Maybe Gorbachev should have Egon Krenz get out of jail and come run New Orleans. I'm sure Gorbachev would probably approve of a leader like Egon Krenz doing what he needs to do.

Here's a quote from the below link.
