Just last fall, as the networks exploded with coverage of Mark Foley's creepy instant messaging, we noted the networks (like ABC) had a very different way of covering Republican sex scandals -- especially the gay-themed ones -- than they did for Democrats. The best example is Barney Frank.
Notice how the networks define hypocrisy, and how liberals never seem to qualify. Frank was a lawmaker with a male-prostitution ring in his house, not to mention a lawmaker who kept getting the pimp's parking tickets waved off. Notice how they all mention "the voters" will decide, instead of going searching for legislators and party activists to underline his need to resign.
The people who manufacture the news in America are very persistent at writing the narrative exactly as it helps liberalism emerge victorious. On ethical scandals, they're very good at making sure Republicans force theirs to resign, and they're also very good at keeping Democrats shamelessly in power.

The problem nobody seems to see (again)
September 2, 2007 - 07:39 ET by sarcasmoIs in the Watergate-lesson I've been trying without success to invoke here. Barney survived his scandal by admitting it when he got busted. He may not have deserved to survive such a lurid scandal, but that's what Taxachusetts voters tolerated. Larry, had he admitted the truth, could have probably at least served-out his term, but when Larry tried to deny the obvious despite an earlier guilty plea in court, we all saw what happened.
A coverup was attempted within that guilty plea, and when that coverup failed he claimed he's "not gay." Maybe so, but that one's not workin' too-well either, unless you're in the humor-business. The news media is quite biased, but in this case we have honestly-gay-but-perverted apples and what look like bisexual-but-trying-to-deny-it oranges, so it's not a good bias-example IMO. It's never the scandals that "get" politicians, it's always the coverups they attempt afterwards.

Plausible deniability
September 2, 2007 - 11:37 ET by Cool Arrowsarc, I seem to have missed the part where Barney Frank admitted he knew a butthel was being run out of his apartment. Could you provide me with the link?

that's right here...
September 2, 2007 - 12:07 ET by sarcasmoIn the '89 Wapo (see quote below) but I was talking about simply admitting homosexuality, something Frank has done pretty openly, rather than the specifics of each homosexual politician's preferred form of sex-crime. Again, it's about trying to get away with the coverup, not the crime, that's the Watergate-lesson that's not getting through here.
...
Gobie's dream has come true. His accusation that Rep. Barney Frank
(D-Mass.) knew that Gobie had operated a prostitution service out of
Frank's Capitol Hill apartment became national news after it was first
reported Friday by the Washington Times.
Frank, one of two openly gay members of Congress, confirmed Friday
that he paid Gobie for sex, hired him with personal funds as an aide and
wrote letters on congressional stationery on his behalf to Virginia
probation officials, but Frank said he fired Gobie when he learned that
clients were visiting the apartment.
...
Once again for the record, I'm not responsible for the actions of Taxachusetts voters. Hell, I won't take responsibility for the idiotic choices of Florida voters, and I am one! And I obviously don't find politicians' denials plausible in these cases when compared to the testimony of police officers, especially when crowned with a guilty plea.

As I said earlier in the week about this, had Craig been a democrat by now what we would know about the cop in question would be his political leanings (registered voter, voting record, who he'd ever made political donations to), his work record with the police department (any violations in procedure, etc), whether he'd ever made anti-gay or racist remarks, his grades from every level of school, his tax returns, his marriage history (any violence against a girlfriend or wife ... cheating on wife) and delinquent child support (any illegitimate kids), parking tickets, DUIs, if he'd been to a bar before or after the Craig incident, shoe size, bowling score ...
ALL this would have been "researched" by the MSM ... with the aid of dem operatives.

September 2, 2007 - 08:13 ET by sarcasmoBarney's voting record, even when he was in the closet, was generally pro-homosexual. As I've mentioned before, even some of us gaydar-impaired guys weren't exactly shocked when Barney emerged, amid scandal, from the closet. A better analogy, which seems not to exist (unless the Edwards-foreclosures in New Orleans count) would be if Barney or any hypothetical lefty were to secretly own a low-wage anti-union "sweatshop."

Look at what NOW did for Bill Clinton: never defending (even going so far as to belittle) the women who accused him of sexual misbehaviors ("crude courtship" and the "one free grope" rule) All because he was so "good" on "women's issues" (i.e. abortion).
So my guess is that Frank would probably get away with even a "liberal" sin, because he votes "the right way" on so many liberal causes, including, and especially, "gay issues."

What do we want?
September 2, 2007 - 15:36 ET by mattmThere is truth to the idea that Frank got away with it by admitting it up front. It's also true that Republicans are more susceptible to this because of their higher standards. However, the Democrats also have standards, which they rarely live up to, but their hypocrisy rarely gets them in trouble. Why?
It's not only about scandals. Bush has a "green" home, yet Algore, who has a energy-wasting home, gets lauded as a great environmentalist. Edwards says he's for the poor, yet he's the most opulent of all the Dem candidates. Hillary compains about the politics of personal destruction, yet she is its chief practicioner. And the list could go on, and on and on....
So the question is why do Dems skate whereas Repubs get nailed?
This is a complicated question but I think it has to do with the fact that people are continually being brainwashed by our public education system and our news and entertainment media.

September 2, 2007 - 18:05 ET by sarcasmoDoing a job that might seem creepy does not make Officer Karsnia a creep, and there's no evidence he, just like Mr. Steyn, wouldn't prefer to hand out traffic tickets. Being a police officer, Mr. Steyn, is what's known in the real world as a job. "Job" implies in order to obtain a paycheck, the worker might not always get to do exactly what he wants to do.
How that makes him a creep, even if the job itself happens to be creepy, is beyond me... In fact, I've never seen this much police-bashing here on NB as I've seen in the past week, and something tells me it's largely partisan & political, rather than the result of anything Officer Karsnia -- who seems to be shunning the news media at the moment or he'd be all over our TVs, and everyone here knows that -- actually did...

Please get a grip.
Entrapment? I doubt it...
September 2, 2007 - 18:33 ET by sarcasmoI simply don't believe this officer was entrapping this guy. Do I think he had a weak case that -- had Craig fought instead of a plea -- would have probably-lost? Yes. Do I think the police in these situations should probably use cameras/audio to avoid all the he-said/he-said? Yes -- hell yes, and the video/audio would have probably been hilarious.
But despite those weaknesses, this case is still pretty strong, which is probably why we saw the guilty plea from the Senator. From the gay websites, guys like me have learned via the media that tapping your foot is apparently a signal men wanting anonymous sex in mensrooms DO use. That particular mensroom (mentioned on the same gay web sites) is out of the way, which might explain its popularity for this kind of thing with those guys. I don't think I'm the one who needs to get a grip in this case, and I stand by my words about the police-bashing. Calling this officer "a creep" for simply doing his job is creepy of Steyn, IMO. It's not like he had a choice to say "sorry, boss, but this job is creepy, so I've unilaterally-decided I'd rather write traffic tickets today."

I'm willing to take 'em all on, anytime, in this case, in court or in the media.
And as I've needed to say repeatedly around here, being a libertarian is not the same as being a libertine. Libertines may be pro-mens-room-sex, but libertarians simply aren't & never-have-been. It's a vast difference of opinion. I think it shouldn't be done and I have 0 problem with it being illegal in public mensrooms.

It's amazing to me
September 3, 2007 - 15:51 ET by SportPoliticsI'll note again the officer berated Craig for "not flushing" as he left the stall.
If the accusations as written are evidence of gay misconduct, then certainly the accusation of not flushing is evidence of taking a dump.
Furthermore, the officer says they are not going to get into "him soliciting Craig". I guess the second person to sit down next to the officer was the "mark". You can only sit on a toilet with your drawers pulled down making pretty faces and smiles to men for so long, before your *** hanging out, and the pathetic reasons you're smelling it all day long becomes a problem. A quick bust MUST be top priority.
I certainly do not give the officer the benefit of the doubt, especially when he tries to manipulate a guilty plea - and says pay a fine and it's over and I don't call the press, and Larry Craig calls him a liar in the interview - repeatedly. Then the cop screams he's being disrepected, which was quite strange. He's a lunatic nutjob. Oh yeah he also screams "he's not trying to act like he's got all sorts of power here", but of course, he was, no matter how you cut it.
( I note when Craig placed his Senator card on the table and allegedly asked what the cop thought of that - the pigboy said " I asked him again for his ID". Then there's some sort of vague construct about what bag the ID was in, and wether it was outside the "interrogation room" or not. But for you people, that's evidence Craig threatened to get off scott free with his senatorial power. Now that's amazing, lunatic, conspiracy theory. I'm sure most of you also think, though you don't say, that he could have used his power to squash the charge.)
I guess you people don't quite yet understand our new young generation. They believe that whatever they get away with is ok, and that it's funny, and anyone on the recieving end can go to ****. And that means you want them to get away with their singular "must find the non crime" secret code toe tap. You people are pathetic, no doubt about it.
You people of course believe your psychological profiling - and believe in the "crime of mental intent", as long as you can also claim the person denying the mental intent is lying, and for that claim you have no evidence whatsoever, except your tinfoil hat "gaydar".
I'm really astounded by all of this.
Mark Steyn said he either walks by or has used that very restroom before. ( that makes him a queer bait boy) Now - it's out of the way according to you people, so why don't we just arrest every person who uses it, since that is indicative of gay cruising guilt as well ? (because you people are KOOKBALLS, that's why, you would buy a bridge to nowhere)
You people sound like insane liberals to me. Of course, you are behaving like them, even with them on this matter, just like them, you have become them.
OJ pled not guilty so that makes him innocent, just remember that. Oh wait, you can't go that far... only people who guilty are guilty no matter what, and people who plead innocent are guilty no matter what. That's right, I've got it.
Everything the cop said is 100% true, and everything craig said is 100% a lie, because you said so. LOL WOW.
According to you people Larry Craig has bad judgement because he paid a fine and got out of kookball demo entrapment central, instead of pleading innocent and having all of you proclaim him OJ for months on end, like you are anyway, till the day you die, no matter what.
Yes, he made a bad decision, because according to you the one branch of government that can do no wrong is law enforcement and the courts. LOL WOW.
Oh, and it's everyone's duty to take on the corrupt, just like you guys took on Fitzgerald and NiFong and Ronnie Earle, and how you take on the guilty democrats even now. LOL
Yes, let the law and the courts handle it - we will believe whatever they say. Sheeple.
I love that other excuse - " I'm not gay and I would never admit to this charge of disorderly conduct" - I would fight it - because I'm not gay..."
Just remember, it doesn't matter wether you are gay or not.
Of course for you guys it does. If you're gay you shouldn't fight it - you conclude, that's what Craig did. He's guilty because he's gay. Of course you, being not gay, would fight the weak charges...because you're not gay... and that makes you innocent.
LOL - Whatever, you know the charges aren't any good, you know he's gay anyway, and you'd have fought and won since you're not gay, as everyone watched your gay *** defend yourself from bathroom cruising, you'd do it, cause you ain't gay. LOL
Yes, I'm sure all of you would have waged a " I'm not gay" public courtroom battle. Sure ya would. Yeah, sure. That's how you know he's guilty, you know what your non-gay foot tapping *** would have done instead. LOL

Another great rant.
Something you should keep in mind, though, is this took place in Minneapolis...la la lib land where things are not as they are anywhere else in the country (well, except for maybe San Fran).
Remember, the Minneapolis airport is where they had all of the islamic cabbies refusing to pick up anyone with liquor, or (horrors!) dogs. And getting away with it, I might add.
Also, a big public discussion in the Twin Cities which would have made it allowable for check out persons at the grocery store of a certain religious persuasion to NOT have to ring up pork products.
In other words, a crazy, upside down place.
I've not commented on this Craig thing because it just makes me mad. It boils down to sex. And spinelessness. Craig should have taken the Barney Frank position (and the rest of the republicans should have shut the hell up, IMO)....let the voters decide. Period, paragraph, end of story.
As for the comments I've read here about dissing the cop for the bust, that's so much garbage. Obviously, hinky pick ups are a problem at this particular site or it wouldn't have been staked out. I'd not like to have my son taken into a restroom like that, anywhere, ever. So law enforcement was just doing their jobs.
Okay, enough. I told you this topic just made me mad, & I'm wrapping myself around the axle.
