Tammy Faye Messner -- who became infamous as Tammy Faye Bakker -- died Saturday of cancer. Jim Bakker and his wife were rich fodder for the liberal media as their "PTL" televangelism empire collapsed in 1988 and their financial excesses were exposed, right down to the air-conditioned doghouse. Liberal media types found the Bakkers to be the very model of Reagan's Decade of Greed, as we noted in Notable Quotables:
"To the self-indulgent age of the '80s and to the characters that gave it special flavor at home -- Oliver L. North and Ronald Reagan, Michael Milken and Ivan Boesky, Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker, Arthur Laffer and his curve, the Yuppies and the leveraged buyout dealmakers -- good riddance."
-- Former Washington Post editor and current columnist Haynes Johnson, December 29, 1990.
Sadly, Haynes Johnson -- one of the Post's most dramatic liberal hacks -- was a regular on "Washington Week in Review" and "The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer" on PBS. For a time, Johnson was even included mysteriously on the NewsHour's panel of historians.

Our Top Story!
July 22, 2007 - 06:57 ET by rob6677It seems to be a common propaganda item for liberals to lump people like Reagen and Ollie (true Americans) in with the likes of the Bakkers. The sad truth as to why the Bakkers were even an item is because they were under the realm of religion, and more specifically christianity. Had they been trial lawers (Edwards), globalwarmongers of hypocracy (Gore), or just Islamic, they probably would not have been shed in the light they were.
As for Milken and Boesky, well they just picked the wrong battle. I am not defending them in any way, but had they aligned themselves with the liberal "religion" and been simpathetic to the "cause" they could have commited murder (Ted Kennedy) and still prospered very well!
For Johnson (moron) to be considered a historian, he would have to do something called research (see library) and look past the mindless hatred (liberalism) to fully grasp what he is saying. If any of these idiot's (liberals) looked at the history of what they are propagandising (communism/socialism) they wouldn't have to search very long to see it just doesn't work (China, Russia, North Korea, North Vietnam, Massachusetts).

Hate filled comments on by the left
July 22, 2007 - 07:21 ET by WVDinoOn the AOL newsite where I learned of Tammy Faye death, hate filled comments are already being made by left. It is really sad.
I wonder what they are
July 22, 2007 - 07:23 ET by DontFeedTheTrollsI wonder what they are saying on DU and KOS about this.
I'm sure there are many kind comments.

I always thought Tammy Faye
July 22, 2007 - 07:32 ET by Roger the ShrubberI always thought Tammy Faye was a symbol of "how not to apply and wear makeup".
Let's face it gang, she was a televangelist, like her ex-hubby, therefore, worthy of contempt. That being said, speaking ill of the dead is in truly bad form. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw this over at HuffPo this morning. Good for them.
Well to leftists Tammy was
July 22, 2007 - 07:56 ET by Jack BauerWell to leftists Tammy was the devil incarnate compared to those who they have or will grieve over...
Yep, it's good to be a leftist. No shame. No apologies. And no sense.
karma bums
July 22, 2007 - 08:35 ET by CatherwoodThe Bakers were nothing more than the reincarnation of the traveling snake oil salesmen of previous times. They were hucksters who everday thought of a new way to take money from their sheep. They had nothing to do with faith and religion at all. They had no faith and their religion was based on the money god. To assign any importance to these people is like assigning political credibility to Bill Clinton. Appearances often have little to do with reality.
Tammy Faye...
July 22, 2007 - 11:57 ET by Guy Arthur ThomasPosted in another article so forgive me but I thought it worth the post here as well:
I disagree with the characterization of TF being a reflection of the
erroneously stated "Reagan era of greed". What Tammy Fate was however,
was a reflection of the Crybaby Boomer Narcissism combined with the
heretical, reckless and practically Godless Charismatic/Pentecostal
movement that tolerates, supports and promotes anything in the name of
God as long as feels good, gets results, makes people say uncle...err I
mean Jesus along with an Evangelical/Protestant Church that by in large
believes that it is clever to spit on sound orthodoxy, view the church
as a business and run it on such a model and gleefully forge God's
signature as the author of such blasphemous teachings and practices.
In reality, far removed from Reagan, Tammy Faye was a reflection of the monstrous heretics and poli-christs
such as Pat Robertson and now the likes of T.D. Jakes, Joel O'Steen,
Joyce Meyer, and Rick Warren within Evangelical circles that are
tolerated in the least by so-called sound teachers and energetically
promoted by poisonous rats such as TBN's Paul and Jan Crouch. No, this
isn't a Reagan shame this is a shame influenced most greatly by Pat
Robertson and tolerated with great silence by much of Evangelicalism.
Shut up and blog! If you claim to be a conservative, please don't disgrace yourself and conservatism by thinking and arguing like a liberal. Go Rudy!

No, I was talking about
July 23, 2007 - 13:46 ET by MightyMouthNo, I was talking about Regan, he didn't have anything to do with televangelists bilking millions, unless I missed something in his diary (which is a great read btw)
