AP Labels Joe Lieberman 'Democrats' Public Enemy No. 1'

The Associated Press labeled Joe Lieberman as the "Democrats' public enemy No. 1" in an astoundingly one sided attack over the weekend in response to critical remarks the former Democrat Senator made about Barack Obama while campaigning for John McCain.

The first four paragraphs of the report were dedicated to an all out character assassination that chided Lieberman for straying from the Democrats in a betrayal that is ominously close to transforming him into "an attack dog for Republicans."

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Joe Lieberman is fast becoming the Democrats' public enemy No. 1.

The four-term Connecticut senator, who came tantalizingly close to being Al Gore's vice president in 2000, not only has been campaigning for his pal, presumed Republican nominee John McCain, now he's publicly criticizing the Democrats' standard-bearer, Barack Obama. Lieberman has strayed before, most notably switching from Democrat to independent in 2006 to hold onto his Senate seat after a Democratic primary loss.

But the latest betrayal has upset Democrats, who often answer in clipped but polite tones when asked about Lieberman. The reason: The independent still caucuses with the Democrats on most issues except the Iraq war, and he holds their slim political majority in his hands.

"There's a commonly held hope that he's not going to be transformed into an attack dog for Republicans," said Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., an Obama supporter.

What could possibly have set off the attack? Simple, Joe Lieberman crossed the line by getting specific in his critique of Barack Obama on the issues of terrorism and foreign policy concerning Iran, Iraq and Israel.

"If Israel is in danger today, it's not because of American foreign policy, which has been strongly supportive of Israel in every way," he said. "It is not because of what we have done in Iraq. It is because Iran is a fanatical terrorist, expansionist state."

This is considered "breaking new ground" and "shifting gears" according to the Associated Press because Joe Lieberman has apparently moved away from simply promoting John McCain to actually giving reasons why he supports John McCain. Imagine.

It appears to have upset someone so much that Lieberman's remarks are being framed as an uncivil attack; crossing the line by getting specific.

The report concluded with a thinly veiled warning to Joe Lieberman: stop attacking Barack Obama unless you want payback in the fall if the dems pick up some likely seats in the Senate:

There is speculation that if Democrats bolster their Senate majority this fall, they could seek payback by stripping Lieberman of his Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee chairmanship.

While there's no serious talk afoot about punishing Lieberman, Kerry said, "I can't tell you what happens next year."

As warnings go this one seems pretty blatant. But then again, this is just "speculation".

Isn't it funny how a

Isn't it funny how a Democrat "strays" from the Party, and is a "traitor" when he disagrees with the Party line.

A Republican who disagrees with his party is "independent" and a "maverick."

Kerry should speak...

Kerry should speak, and speak often. He continues to remove all doubt.

But...  but...  Thalpy, my

But...  but...  Thalpy, my Jr. senator is an intellectual, a very smart guy!  He told us so in 2004.  Surely you can't be implying that he doesn't have the sense that God gave a gnat.

[sarc off]

BTW, I agree.  As much as I can't stand hearing him speak, I enjoy how the fact that he loves the sound of his own voice gives rise to so many wonderful occasions for him to impress us with his wit (or lack thereof).

Pot, meet Kettle

How in the world does the AP get away with calling an independent a traitor to the Dhimmicrap party?  In this case the party left Joe Lieberman.  He was hung out to dry by the "party" and after he reclaims his seat as an independent he is supposed to now become subservient to the Dhimmicrap party?  Not a chance.

Who thinks juan will ask Joe to be his running mate?  The maverick would not surprise anyone if he did that.

I am seeing a pattern here...

...and it's frankly rather disgusting.  Lieberman isn't really a liberal (even though he votes with the Dems about 90% of the time), McCain isn't really a former POW, and Clarence Thomas really isn't black (apologies for being glib, but I don't think that's makeup).

I guess this is what is meant by the "reality-based community".

So someone who doesn't fall

So someone who doesn't fall the whole ideological line is a traitor in the Democrat party with threats should they stray. Whatever happened to having people think for themselves. This should be a huge wake up call for Americans about what the Dems are all about.

Clowns to the left of me...

Ah yes, the great party divide. Super delegated party nominations don't phase his old party any more than a lack character, or their abundance of moral turpitude. Unlike so many in the lumbering party Lieberman is one of the few who have maintained a backbone.

*stunned*

While there's no serious talk afoot about punishing Lieberman, Kerry said, "I can't tell you what happens next year."

Woah..... I'm speechless. Punishing Lieberman..... I didn't realize he had committed a crime.....

He did....the crime of

He did....the crime of "disloyalty."

Lieberman is my senator

Lieberman is one of my senators. At least he is the one I will admit to. I think the Democrats are getting a little sensitive. First with the President and now with Lieberman and neither one mentioned Obama's name. I guess the truth hurts...even if you are not named. I bet there are a lot of Democrats out there who look at Obama the same way as Lieberman does. They just won't admit it for fear they will chastised and kick out of the party. So much for being a big tent party.

And apparently, loyalty only works one way . . .

No Dem elitist should ever speak of loyalty.

Let's remember that the Dems --- encouraged by MoveOn.org and its $$$ resources --- decided in their ivory palace, that longtime Democratic Senator Lieberman had to be replaced by a more liberal, anti-Israel candidate.

The plan was to run a rich-boy from Connecticut as the Democratic candidate, and kick incumbent Lieberman to the curb.

His so-called 'colleagues' in the Senate such as Hillary Clinton and John Kerry, all towed the elite line and endorsed the new guy against the man who only a few years earlier, had been the Party's candidate for Vice President.

Lieberman was rightly outraged, and --- seeing as how his Party not only abandoned him, but was using valuable resources to expel him from his seat -- ran as an independent. And he beat the out-of-state money and elitists because they had misread his popular support. Connecticut Republicans were more loyal to Lieberman than his own Party leaders.

Loyalty? The self-absorbed top Democrats only recognize loyalty to them; they do not return the sentiment.

Now, Lieberman continues to suffer the slings and arrows of the Democratic Party nabobs through their MSM mouthpieces, because his very presence in the Senate is a symbol of the successful popular rebellion against the Democrats.

This is exactly how the

This is exactly how the Dumbocrats see "bi-partisanship", and "reaching across the aisle"...It's OK if a Republican switches parties, but the 8th circle of hell (or is the 9th?) is reserved for those who betray their fellow Dims..Oh wait, that is reserved for those who criticize Mich-Hell O..It's interesting because I was  just reading a glowing article in this week's TIME rag by Joe Klein basically praising Jim Webb (D-VA) for switching to the Dark Side as an "avatar of the Democrats"(Klein's words). It's a disgusting piece if you can bear to read it.

BTW....I wonder if Osama Bin Laden even made the Dumbocrat's list of "Public Enemies"?

A Cancer

This is what the DUMPOCRAPS have become these days. Their leftists friends and lackeys in the corporate fascist drive-by media are aiding and abetting in the death of the Sovereign Nation of The United States. Look I disagree with Lieberman on many things as my ONLY senator--Dodd is a traitorous scum who doesn't deserve one more day in office IMHO! But on terror, the war in Iraq, Joe hits grand slam after grand slam.

This is the leftist nutroot socialists led by racists like Kos, HuffPo and D-U, financed by The Socialist Sugar Daddies Soros and Ned Lamont, who want this country to become a one-world socialist utopia--WELL I AIN'T STANDING FOR IT!

It's these reasons why the Democraps LEFT ME and I am a independent HARD-CORE, EXTREME Conservative. If I offend someone who deserves the offending, my duty is accomplished; If I overdo it, I will call myself on the carpet and apologize, unless I KNOW DAMN WELL I am right.

If McCain picks Joe for the veep, it could only get uglier. Which is why I am taking a safe route and already declaring myself in the column for Chuck Baldwin and The Constitution Party.

Since the CFDB's won't tell you about Pastor Chuck, the hyperlink will.
