Environmental Hypocrisy at Rio-20
For 20 years, the United Nations has warned that humanity will soon face doom if it fails to adopt “sustainable development” policies and protect the earth’s environment. However, U.N. officials seem to think the rules they seek to establish for everyone else are not applicable to them, as their behavior at environmental conferences shows.
A much-hyped 1992 environmental conference in Rio produced a plan called “Agenda 21” which detailed a strategy to promote sustainability. Like many other U.N. initiatives, Agenda 21 has proven to be all talk and no action.
In the past, the liberal media have misled the public by pretending these meetings are significant in effecting global policy. Former Vice President Al Gore led the hype propaganda around the Copenhagen summit of 2009. Commenting on President Obama’s decision to attend the Copenhagen summit, former Vice President Al Gore stated: “This action is another example of the significant change in policy on the climate crisis.” Yet Copenhagen, like virtually every other climate change meeting, produced no results, as the Business and Media Institute has pointed out.
This year, the much over-hyped United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, commonly referred to as Rio+20, has been no different. Even environmentalist groups have expressed their displeasure at the results of the conference. The World Wildlife Fund claimed the conference was “less than satisfactory from any point of view” and feared if nothing happened it “will have been a colossal waste of time.”
Not only has Rio+20 been a waste of time – it is also a major source of the much criticized carbon emissions. Rio+20 is the largest conference in U.N. history, with over 115 presidents and prime ministers attending. This event has drawn more than 50,000 people from over 180 different countries. Most have been taking airplanes, a confirmed source of the carbon emissions that Rio-20 seeks to reduce.
If they really were concerned about greenhouse emissions, they would find other ways to hold the conference. Conference calls, for instance, use far less energy.
Instead it seems that “green” activists are more interested in taking vacations under the guise of halting the specter of climate change, rather than taking action. A little more than six months ago, 15,000 sustainability activists met in Durban, South Africa to host yet another ineffective discussion. Over the past 20 years, trips to discuss sustainability were held in the luxurious locations of Barbados, Cancun, Paris, Copenhagen, and Johannesburg.
Apparently, talking about halting climate change can be awfully beneficial – to delegates looking for vacation time.

Climate change...The hypocrits hypocrisy.

This is the best of both worlds to the UN and the many NGOs that hang around like scavangers. They get to vacation in all sorts of cool and luxurious locations, and they get to try and dictate how other people will be forced to curtail their standard of living (whatever it might be) so that they can continue to take vacations in other cool and luxurious places.
And now...20 years later, none of their dire predictions have come true at all.

Thus, it is easy to attend fun meetings and accomplish nothing.
It is no different than those GSA meetings in Vegas, go have a good time
and waste big $$$$ because nobody cared at the administration.
If man is contributing a little to the 10000 year massive warming trend, then
good for mankind. They never point that the last major ice age had most land mass
areas away from the equator as massive "dead zones," buried under glaciers.

Horse-squeeze.
Agenda 21 is alive and well, and has already gained a substantial foothold in communities all across America.
Some who reside in these communities are aware of what is happening and are resisting, but not nearly enough of them.
What it is is creeping stealth totalitarianism, and if the sheeple don't wake up soon, it's going to be too late to stop it.

Unsustainable article on Agenda 21
Submitted by lrgon on Mon, 06/25/2012 - 11:29am.
Taylor Hughes article is not sustainable since he tells his readers nothing about what agenda 21 is all about.
The "sustainability" agenda was given the moniker "Agenda 21" by Tom Deweese, Birchers, Eagle Forum. Glenn Beck has exposed it to a large television audience. But about 20 years ago Bill Jasper was exposing it in The New American magazine and in his book: UN, Global Tyranny Step by Step. He devoted an entire chapter to Agenda 21. http://www.amazon.com/Global-Tyranny-Step-Step-Nations-Emerging/dp/08827...
As the exposure of "agenda 21" gains steam and a growing number of other activists get on board this UN "sustainablitity" scam will fail.
Agreed

Irgon, you are right. The focus of this article was to show the uselessness of these meetings. Agenda 21 is truly a forum for global tyranny. The article was trying to show that "sustainability" is a scam and point out the useless spending that goes on during these meetings. To expose Agenda 21 fully would be another story in itself.
Yes, I do agree that the elite and the flunkies

that attended Rio-Plus 20 years are holding onto an unscientific theory that man is causing global warming; that the attendees especially the emotional mobs that show up at these events are totally goofey. And of course your article points that out how wrong they are. But as you say the underlying hidden agenda requires a nother article to illustrate that angle.
Enjoyed your column.
The 2 goals of these people
Submitted by MichMike on Mon, 06/25/2012 - 11:43am.
1. Create a mechanism to tax anyone, anytime.
2. Prevent Africa from ever developing, as the left are, and always have been, raging racists.
The second issue is one of the major reasons there are never any agreements. The dictators in Africa never agree that the bribe money they will receive to keep their economies in the dark ages is sufficient for their personal needs.

Funny that they didn't have the conference at a University of Wisconsin site that sported a "100 degree" temperature the other day:

I think environmental hypocrisy is the most blatantly obvious political hypocrisy around. Greens don't even try to hide it anymore.
