| The Senator Of Course Gets to Keep His Microphone |
In today's Politico Michael Calderone delivers the second addition to the censors list in less than a week. Last Thursday, it was Michigan Democratic Senator Debbie Stabenow. Today it's Iowa Democratic Senator Tom Harkin.
Both were appearing on the ever dwindling, shrinking by leaps and bounds Bill Press Radio Show, enjoyed by tens all across the nation.
The audio is here. And the transcript is below the fold:
BILL PRESS: …And, thanks for your leadership, thanks for your good work, it’s great to have you there Senator. And, great to have you on the show. Appreciate it.
SENATOR TOM HARKIN (D-IA): Well, anytime – just let me know Bill. I love being with you, and thanks again for all you do to get the truth and the facts out there. By the way, I read your Op-Ed in the Washington Post the other day. I ripped it out, I took it into my office and said ‘there you go, we gotta get the Fairness Doctrine back in law again.’
BILL PRESS: Alright, well good for you. You know, we gotta work on that, because they are just shutting down progressive talk from one city after another. All we want is, you know, some balance on the airwaves, that’s all. You know, we’re not going to take any of the conservative voices off the airwaves, but just make sure that there are a few progressives and liberals out there, right?
SENATOR TOM HARKIN (D-IA): Exactly, and that’s why we need the fair -- that’s why we need the Fairness Doctrine back.
BILL PRESS: We’ll work on that together. Hey, thanks, Senator! Always good to talk to you.
SENATOR TOM HARKIN (D-IA): Thanks Bill, see you, bye.
BILL PRESS: There it is – you heard it here on the Bill Press Show. Senator Tom Harkin: bring back the Fairness Doctrine!
Again we ponder the myriad Leftists out there who repeatedly and rigidly insist that the return of the Fairness Doctrine is all in our heads, a Conservative collective figment of the imagination.
Just another example of Liberals being and remaining impervious to facts. And being and remaining rigidly insistent on censoring Conservative talk radio.

February 11, 2009 - 12:09 ET by rammingspeedI believe Harkin and Stabenow are at least partly floating trial balloons on this subject, the way the Clinton administration did with certain ideas. They want to see how much support and traction they get by talking about it. They also want to see how large and strong the resistance is against The Fairness Doctrine.
Stabenow and Harkin are both bottom-of-the-barrel liberals in the senate, who are in safe districts. They can take the heat from those who disagree. There's a serious threat, to be sure, but thunder and lightning will be delivered by conservatives across the country if Dems ever make a hard move.
This is a planned attack on First Amendment rights of the American public, and there will be blood.

February 11, 2009 - 12:28 ET by sawing battaThe good news is that the silent majority is waking up. Yesterday, on the train, there were some self proclaimed Obama voters...guys who "felt good" about voting for him, who were speaking loudly about the buyers remorse. they realized that too much voting power was transferred to the liberals...and that "this isnt what i thought i was voting for...this is socialism, plain and simple"
i think even 'feel good about myself' Lefties are waking up to the land and freedom grab underway in the name of "stimulus" and the fraud, yes, fraud that is occurring.
If obama voters are feeling this way, the rebellion against socialism cant be far behind...

February 11, 2009 - 14:14 ET by jistincaseI like what Rush had to say today about taking back the government. Go ahead and let the liberals make a huge government machine and when they get voted out then take that and turn it against them. Take the fairness doctrine and shut them up, take every democrat that anything to do with the current mess and put them on public trial, create our own acorn and take over the census bureau and use it to our advantage. Time for an eye for an eye. They may be all smug at the moment but we are going to be coming for them and there is going to be no place to hide. We will destroy the democratic party when this whole thing blows up on them and they will never recover again. It is time to be a community organizer and put all the liberals out with the trash where they belong.

Same in New Mexico. Let's face it, the GOP let the Democrats get the Julios of the world registered and to the polls while they curled up in the fetal position on the floor and whimpered.
By the way, I wish jst one Conservative commentator or gutsy politician (is that a self cancelling phrase?) would tell Snowe. Collins, and Spector that it's time for them to make it official and leave the Republican Party - there's really no point in them staying. At least we would know just who we could count on.

I am hoping with all my heart, like I posted somewhere else on this thread, that Pelosi and Reid not allowing the appt. 'R' members to this conference committee to be part of what is put in or taken out of the Porkulus Bill will cause them to vote against it.
Repubs should be screaming to the highest mountains via the msm, if they remain silent about this, I am going to be about more than furious. I think it was Cornyn and Grassley from our side in the Senate that were named for our side of the aisle.

I'm not a political puritan who demands complete orthodoxy from everyone in the party, but I think that Spector, collins, and Snow have proved over and over again that they really aren't comfortable being Republicans. We should encourage them to find their comfort zone in a party more suited to their liberalism.
I wish I'd hear one Republican reply to the media when they're questioned about their vote against the "Spendulus" Plan, "Just because Obama was elected and is currently popular doesn't mean I will abandon my lifetime core political and economic philosophies - what kind of political whore do you take me for?".

Gingrich was one of the most intelligent, convincing, forceful GOPers out there and, with the exception of the affairs and his personal life which cost him his job, I would have loved to see him run for President. The platform of the Contract With America, now largely abandoned by the GOP, was instrumental in kicking Bill Clinton right in the Nads after his first two years in office with the sweeping changes in Congress. But now, they've abandoned term limits, spending limits, smaller government and the principles of Reagan in favor of living high and large like their bretheren, the spendocrats.

February 11, 2009 - 13:51 ET byIf he had left it alone, it would have died by now.
The more attention you draw to this Fairness Doctrine, the more likely the issue will be brought to the forefront. Conservatives know TalkRadio is pumped into the factories for the workers to listen to as they go about their work. If all of a sudden, you had opposing viewpoints explaining to the workers some of the problems they face as they continue to vote against their better interests (i.e. higher wages and better healthcare), they might be able to see through the conservative smokescreen. But, why would they ever want to hear about opposing viewpoints? It's not as if they should learn anything...they did that in the 8th grade!(sarc on)

February 11, 2009 - 14:28 ET by R D HelmOnce your Marxist friends have managed to destroy the means of wealth creation in this country, which is private enterprise (which they are probably only hours away from bringing about with the government takeover bill they are currently finalizing) what will Obama and his goons be "redistributing" after that happens?
After all, government cannot create wealth, so, what will then motivate people to produce anything, as there will no-longer be any incentives to produce?
The slaves of the former USSR (which was anyone who was not a part of the ruling class) once had a saying: "We pretend to work, and they pretend to pay us."
What will the Obama regime do to get people to produce? Will it resort to threats, perhaps? Intimidation?
Will it be forcing people to work at gun point?
What?

They give lip service to all the lib ideas, but you can spot these folks, they only get passionate in a discussion when you hit their perticular touchpoint. So lib talk bores them most of the time, whenever the discussion is not on their issue.
The young brainwashed types, well, they listen to music radio and their iPods.
For the moderates, they just don't like the viciousness and vulgarity of the lefties on the radio, you ever listen to them?!??! Worse than the superbowl broadcast in Tucson after a particularly great Cardinals pass.
Besides, we get talk radio, they get ABCBSMSNBCNN. Apply it to them, and i might just sign on.
Censorship is censorship. Next, they'll claim that, because the space between any two people is "public airspace," we have to not say certain things. Oops, they already started that, with "hate speech" legislation.

And it's driven from the top
February 11, 2009 - 16:25 ET by SickofLibsAnd it's driven from the top down, which will make it even more fun!
Oh, Those funny Liberals!
February 11, 2009 - 14:53 ET by RadiomanI agree this is a trial balloon. Liberal talk is a failure because it is redundant! With the MSM being liberal, there is no need for talk radio. And the Liberal talkers have no sense of humor...they have no sense of humanity or the weakness of human nature..but their ideas are ssoooo very important, almost omnipotent. Is Bill Moyers or Bill Press entertaining? Quick! Come up with 3 Liberals who are truly funny? Most Liberal humor is mean and spiteful. But a tyrannical government cannot allow freedom of expression and many Dems would like us to head in that direction.

If they shove the fairness doctrine back down our throats, does that mean that all TV news will have to give 'equal time' to conservatives? hmmmmm . . . of course, since they're still pretending to be neutral journalists, perhaps not.
What a joke...if they had an audience they'd have airwaves.
Harkin
February 12, 2009 - 01:58 ET by Dr. RonDuring my tenure at a government regulatory agency, we found Harkin to be mean, venal and corrupt..but, then again, as a Dem Senator, what else is new?
