ABC Touts Dumping Andrew Jackson From the $20, Replacing With a Woman

ABC and NBC on Wednesday promoted the campaign to remove Andrew Jackson from the $20 and replace him with a woman. Just like when CBS pushed the concept in March and April, Good Morning America and Today didn't mention that the majority of the candidates suggested by the group Womenon20s.org were either prominent Democratic or liberal activists. 

GMA's Amy Robach announced, "And the group looking to replace Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill with a woman has now chosen a successor." On NBC's Today, Natalie Morales hyped, "The group Women on Twenties has sent its poll results to President Obama urging him to have them to have the Treasury Department redesign the $20 bill. So we'll wait and see if this happens." 

Certainly, the woman chosen by the group's online survey, abolitionist Harriet Tubman, was heroic in her fight against slavery and deserves honor. But other suggestions from the organization include Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger (known for her association with the Ku Klux Klan), radical environmentalist Rachel Carson and liberal feminist Betty Friedan. 

CBS This Morning again pushed the idea on April 8 with co-anchor Charlie Rose suggesting that "all" the candidates were worthy. Not included in the group's list were pioneering women such as Abigail Adams, Amelia Earhart and Shirley Jackson, the ex-head of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the first African American female to earn a doctorate from M.I.T.

NATALIE MORALES: Harriet Tubman is the winner of an online poll to have a woman replace Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill. Tubman, who helped to free slaves on the underground railroad, came out ahead of Eleanor Roosevelt and Rosa Parks. The group Women on Twenties has sent its poll results to President Obama urging him to have them to have the Treasury Department redesign the $20 bill.
