Balance: Lib Chris Matthews to Another Lib: How Do 'Tea Party Crackpots Keep Winning?'

By Scott Whitlock | May 16, 2012 | 18:15

Diversity of thought on MSNBC: Liberal Chris Matthews on Wednesday talked to liberal journalist David Corn and liberal Congressman Steve Israel about the "Tea Party crackpots" and whether the GOP is trying to "sabotage" the economy in order to defeat Barack Obama.

With no conservative or Republican in the Hardball segment, Matthews seriously wondered to David Corn: "I know you are an advocate but you're also an journalist. Why do Tea Party crackpots keep winning elections out in the country?" Not shockingly, the Nation journalist cited the Tea Party's ability to "exploit" anger. Matthews summarized, "...[Democrats] believe in government."

Later, the MSNBC anchor wondered if the Republicans are going to try and "stop the government" before the election in order to bring Obama down.

Matthews posed this question to Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Chair Israel: "Let me ask you, am I too strong in saying this is a sabotage campaign?"

Again, not shockingly, Israel did not think it was too strong.

A partial transcript of the May 16 segment can be found below:

CHRIS MATTHEWS: Okay, David, you're a journalist. I know you are an advocate but you're also an journalist. Why do Tea Party crackpots keep winning elections out in the country?

DAVID CORN: I think they are taking advantage, exploiting is the anger out there, that some Democrats and the President hasn't always tapped as effectively as they can. I think things are going bad. People vote for the incumbent regardless of who the challengers are.

MATTHEWS: Who do they blame?

CORN: Well, they blame the people in power and this is where the Democrats have some danger.

MATTHEWS: Because they believe in government. They are willing to say we're the government. Tea Partiers say we're the protest party.

CORN: Exactly. But listen, Mitt Romney is out there not saying much about anything. He's just blasting away the at president. Now, Congressman Israel and everybody else can say, look at what the House Republicans, what John Boehner is doing and it may bring down the economy and cause all sort of pain but Mitt Romney's strategy obviously is going to be to stand apart from that. And let it fall how do you, sort of, tie this together if you're the Democrats

MATTHEWS: Israel, let's talk about the timing here. Here we are in Jay, going into June. We're half way through the month. Have a summer ahead of us, a big hot summer ahead of us. At what point does this debt crisis hit. He's saying now we have got to deal with the Bush tax cuts, extensions, gotta deal with the sequestration problem of cuts and domestic and military spending cuts and they got to deal with the fact that we have to raise the debt ceiling. Is all this going to crash before the election? Are they going to stop the government before November?

REP. STEVE ISRAEL: Well, they tried to do it last year. Again this is a bad summer rerun. We have seen the play book. We know how it plays out. I believe that their strategy is to do everything they can to make the President look bad in order to experience some partisan gain. The whole tragedy here is it doesn't have to go down like this. We can compromise. Democrats want to end spending for programs that doesn't work and make spending more efficient for initiatives that protect opportunities for the middle class. we wish we add a Republican to negotiate with. We can solve this.

MATTHEWS: I know. By the way, what you said about Tip and Reagan is right. They did negotiate. They did fight but they negotiated. Let me ask you, am I too strong in saying this is a sabotage campaign?

ISRAEL: You asking me, Chris?

MATTHEWS: Yes.

ISRAEL: No, I think Mitch McConnell admitted it. It's not you who's saying it. It's Mitch McConnell's own words.

When Romney wins the Presidency, is it going to be Matthew's "job" again to "see that he is successful"? After all, we all live here.

If Obama were doing a competent job, there would be NO anger.

Submitted by drsamherman on Wed, 05/16/2012 - 6:46pm.

And they mistake the reasons for the anger.

The anger comes from seeing our national debt grow unchecked like a weed in a badly kept garden. The anger comes from the incompetence of the malignant narcissist who claims credit where it is not due. The anger comes from Obama's broken promises, lies, deflection, distraction, distortion and debasement of America's strength overseas and at home. The anger comes from seeing our liberties eroded at every possible turn, and from our disgust with the most incompetent and corrupt administration ever. The anger comes from sweetheart deals with Democrat cronies using government money. The anger comes from a stimulus that failed. The anger comes from so many sources that it is impossible to articulate.

Intelligence has never been the strong point of either Chris or his dimwitted, second-rate hack compatriot David Corn. They not only got it wrong, but very wrong.

Submitted by Barabbus on Wed, 05/16/2012 - 6:47pm.

An historic victory in the 2010 election. House seats, state legislatures seats, then came the results of the other night. More victories. The American people are frightened out of their wits about the debt and are exercising their only means of screaming out that they want it stopped. Now.
And the one clown denigrates them as "crackpots" while another announces that; "an..anger out there..." is being "exploited", then whines that the Obaminations can't seem to tap into it! They're the cause of the anger, and they pout that they can't take advantage of it. Lotta Chutzpa. (As my Irish Granny used to say)

Liberals projecting again

Submitted by needle on Wed, 05/16/2012 - 9:03pm.

It is pretty funny to hear these kool-aid drunk crackpots, call anybody a crackpot.

When CNN’s bubble pops – I would think will pretty soon now – the best thing that could happen to the Libtards there would be for them to go and live in a red state, and find out what is going on in the real world.

These crackpots remind me of Sam Tanenhaus, who to celebrate Obama’s victory wrote The Death of Conservatism, which ranks #90,920 in Amazon Best Sellers. I wonder how many dozen copies that equates to.

- Looking forward to the self-annihilation of the Manipulated Stories Machine.

Because the Tea Party - unlike YOU mindless Obama media slaves - are getting it RIGHT.

Now, seriously, do you think you or I would still have OUR jobs if we were that incompetant????

Maybe because YOU are the crackpots?

The government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

Submitted by chiefpayne on Thu, 05/17/2012 - 10:17am.

Matthews will NEVER understand WHY Tea Party candidates keep winning...because he will not ASK a TEA PARTIER why.

And WHY won't he do this? Because he's AFRAID he will get the REAL answer to his question --- which is:

Because the US taxpayer is FED UP with government sycophants and leeches constantly draining the government coffers and then looking at the taxpayers and telling them they are STILL NOT paying their "fair share".

Liberals are happy folks when the COOKIE JAR-

Submitted by JIMMY1660 on Thu, 05/17/2012 - 10:55am.

was full-make big promises for Free Stuff-
now that the economy is lagging the COOKIE JAR is empty-Liberals do not know how to fill it back up.
Energy is the key to a strong economy.
America is an Automotive driven economy.
Cars and Light Trucks are in every nook and cranny of our great Nation.
Low gas prices-folks buy-the OEM & after market companies and suppliers thrive.
Now with high gas taxes-high per barrel costs-it hurts the economy.
All items of need, not want, are hit with transportation Fuel Surcharges, driving up those costs of basic needs. Leaving little for the wants.
That is why Tea Party's and those fighting Big Government have been and will be successful getting
conservatives elected-with the move to remove BHO from the White House.
BHO's nonsense about "FAIRNESS" is a smoke screen for Marxism.Historically, how many humans have died with guys like BHO trying to install Marxism. It does not work it will never work here in the USA.
That's another big reason why Tea Party types are being elected-we see through the smoke and see the RED FLAG.
Liberals have drank the RED KOOL AID-conservatives will not partake, walla TEA DRINKERS
The CONSTITUTION shall rein and guide us.
Liberals like Chrissy dont get it.

Fast & Furious along with Solyndra are example of who BHO is BHO Policies have caused Failed Economy- Liberals = Wealth Re-distribution

Crackpots? I just can't wait for November, when the "crackpots" deal a crushing blow to Chrissy's hopes and dreams, Obama loses the White House, and the Dems lose the Senate. Oh, the weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth at MSNBC! What will little Chrissy and poor little David Corn do?

Crackpots? Matthews is a chamber pot. A full one. And I'm sure there is some Corn in there, too.

Better a cracked pot than a funnel

Submitted by CobraMan on Thu, 05/17/2012 - 12:31pm.

Hay, Chrissy, perhaps people believe it's better to use a cracked pot, A.K.A Conservatives, to slow down the hemorrhaging of us tax revenue than the funnel, A.K.A Liberals, that YOU seem to favor? A cracked pot, while slowly leaking, is far more preferable than a funnel that lets out all the water, A.K.A tax revenue, almost as quickly as it is poured in.
