MSNBC's Chris Matthews to Black Pastor: 'I Hope You Evolve'
Hardball anchor Chris Matthews, who routinely smears his political opponents as racist, on Monday lectured an African American minister who opposes gay marriage, "I hope you evolve." The host patronizingly added, "I'm just teasing." [See video below. MP3 audio here.] How would he (or MSNBC for that matter) react if a conservative said such a thing to a black leader?
Matthews interviewed Bishop Harry Jackson, who has spoken out against Barack Obama's endorsement of gay marriage. Speaking of Jesus Christ, Matthews ridiculously linked accusations that Mitt Romney once bullied a teen, nearly 50 years ago: "Do you think [Christ] would have been chasing after the kid with long hair and cutting his hair or he would have been the one protecting the kid with long hair in high school?"
Matthews sarcastically added, "But you're with the guy who was going after the kid with long hair." (Pastor Jackson informed the host that he was not, yet, supporting Romney.)
Fellow black minister,Reverend Delman Coates also appeared on the show. After Coates indicated he supported gay marriage, Jackson retorted, "Why not let the Muslims have polygamy and bigamy?"
This prompted Matthews to insultingly suggest: "I hope you evolve...I'm just teasing."
Considering Matthews routinely plays the race card, will he apologize for telling a black man to "evolve?"
A transcript of the May 14 exchange follows:
5:39
CHRIS MATTHEWS: Do you think he would have been chasing after the kid with long hair and cutting his hair or he would have been the one protecting the kid with long hair in high school?
BISHOP HARRY JACKSON: He would have been protecting the kid with long hair.
MATTHEWS: Right. I thought so. But you're with the guy who was going after the kid with long hair.
JACKSON: No, no, no. I'm not necessarily with him right now.
MATTHEWS: Oh, you're not with Romney?
JACKSON: I'm not with Romney at this point. I want to say something about righteousness and justice. The Bible talks very clearly about how righteousness, which is like personal morality and holiness. It also talks about justice. What's broken in American politics is that the Democrats think they own social justice. The Republicans think they own righteousness, but the Bible doesn't take righteousness or justice, it takes righteousness and justice.
5:43
JACKSON: Why not let the Muslims have polygamy and bigamy?
MATTHEWS: Mr. Bishop, I hope you evolve. Thank you very much. I'm just teasing.
JACKSON: That's all right.

The Reverend should have brought up the subject of Obama's admitted drinking and drug use. Then asked if Mathews thought that made Obama a better person. And also the fact that the so called recipent of the hair cutting incident denying that it ever happened. And the person who brought up the alegation wasn't even present at the so called incident.

Nice. Tingles addresses Jackson as Mr. Bishop.

Yet he NEVER fails to address his professional race-baiting "colleague" as Reverend Sharpton.
In fact, all the MSNBC drones do... like it would be a high insult not to.
What a complete jerk!

And Chris Matthews is a Catholic.
Is he hoping Bishop Jackson "evolves" like he (Matthews) has "evolved" beyond the teachings of the Catholic Church?
I doubt the Pope would call it "evolution."

He even almost lost his cool at Alex.

I find it really amusing that the left continues to use the term "evolving" in the context of homosexuality when the undeniable truth is that evolution is doing it's very best to select homosexuality OUT of the gene pool.
I'd like to see Prissy Tingles say that to a Moooooooslim cleric

beyond his Christian "indoctrination."
I, like the president, have evolved to a point of marriage equality. I have not always been there. I grew up in a parsonage. A fundamentalist Christian parsonage. I grew up with that indoctrination.
So, then, is all religion "indoctrination?" Or just religion that doesn't keep up with public opinion and current attitudes?
Yup, let's all leave that old Christian "indoctrination" behind.

Not going to write a long post but offer food for thought. Consider the behavior and actions of early man They lived with the most basic of all human behavior in creating groups, or tribes, seeking shelter and food. Now consider some of those behaviors in todays society.
Gangs or mobs robbing stores or attacking perceived enemies, people living in parks and street corners begging for food, sex slaves and kidnapping women, forced marriages for children, men believing their physical pleasures of sex and food are paramount in their existence. The selective elimination of new borns that do not serve the tribe, etc etc.
Show me again how we are "evolving"?
I read somewhere that...

Mr. Whitlock: Considering Matthews routinely plays the race card, will he apologize for telling a black man to "evolve?"
Yes. Because the prejudicial jokes out there are that the black man is more closely related to apes than the white man. So it would be good for a black man to evolve from being so closely related to apes and be closer to the evolution of the white man.
I guess Chris Matthews is more evolved even then the rest of us and can therefore get away with telling a black man he needs to evolve. Chris Matthews is even further away from the apes than the black man and the rest of us lowbrows.
Very true!

You know that if a Republican made the same statement that the left would immediately bring up the "traditional" meaning of evolution and go exactly where you suggested.
It's just like Robert Byrd being allowed to say "white ni**ers" on Meet the Depressed and no condemnation.

I find it such a HOOT when the libs use the term "evolve" in relation to the acceptance of homosexuality as normal! Anyone with any knowledge of science what so ever knows that the law of natural selection is doing it's utmost best to select that trait out of the gene pool in just one generation!

If people are constantly evolving into a higher form of life, then differences between people represent different stages in the evolutionary process. Therefore some races must be less evolved than others. Anything less is just pandering to political correctness.
When Darwinian Evolution was gaining popularity, it was generally regarded that the "African ... represented the missing link between ape and Teuton."
Why Chris Matthews wasn't lambasted by his peers for a statement that can so easily be perceived as having racial implications completely escapes me.
