Newsweek's Tomasky Spews Anger at GOP: 'Party of Whiners' over Bin Laden Death

Now that Tina Brown's Daily Beast has merged with Newsweek, the magazine's liberal tilt is even more apparent. In a posting, Tuesday, "Newsweek/Daily Beast special correspondent" Michael Tomasky assailed the Republican Party as a "party of whiners" over the killing of Osama bin Laden.

The article's headline mocked, "Republicans love to act like tough guys. Yet it’s the Democrat in the White House who got bin Laden—and the GOP that’s throwing a temper tantrum about a modest Obama ad."

Regarding George W. Bush being president during 9/11, Tomasky railed, "In a rational world, that would count as a demerit—and indeed might have led to George W. Bush’s removal from office..."

The Newsweek writer, who previously wrote for the liberal American Prospect, explained that Obama's new ad questions whether Mitt Romney would have killed bin Laden. Tomasky did note that Romney also said in 2007, "But [bin Laden] is going to pay, and he will die."

But he dismissed this as "ass-covering."

Good to know that Newsweek's pairing with Daily Beast has made the publication classier.

Yes, of course, Romney was

Submitted by LinTaylor on Tue, 05/01/2012 - 6:47pm.

Yes, of course, Romney was covering his ass FOUR YEARS BEFORE the event in question happened and FIVE years before it became an issue.

Heck, if that were true, I'd say that'd be more than enough reason to elect Mitt, because a man who can see the future would make the best President ever.

obama 'got' bin Laden?

Submitted by MidAmerica on Tue, 05/01/2012 - 7:19pm.

Well if that is true then we'll have to pull back on our sarcastic remarks about O.J. looking for the real killer of Nicole out on the golf course because evidently it was during obama's constant hitting of the links that he was finally able to smoke out bin Laden.

Glory Days

Submitted by bobsmom on Tue, 05/01/2012 - 7:20pm.

that's what this is. Ever sat on a barstool next to a guy in his 50's and all he can talk about is the home run he hit or the pass he completed (Al Bundy) in high school? And you think, is that ALL you've accomplished in all your years on the planet? Well, that's what this whole "I killed bin laden" thing is about. I hereby christen he who was called Odumbo, now O'bundy.

Judging by the way this

Submitted by rbosque on Tue, 05/01/2012 - 7:31pm.

Judging by the way this administration and Democrats in general love and defend Islamic terrorists. I'm sure it was a pretty hard decision for Obama to make. Of course now it's believed that an admiral was the one who gave the order. Which makes more sense than a Democrat actually ordering the death of an American enemy.

Could one expect Tomasky to see the grand hypocrisy?

Submitted by drsamherman on Tue, 05/01/2012 - 7:32pm.

Tomasky and his ilk did nothing but whine, moan and complain about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Peacenik morons like him did everything possible to see that the surge in Iraq would be stymied, yet it worked and he gave Bush ZERO credit for that. Afghanistan is turning into a hellhole because the Bat-eared Messiah and his inept staff keep pulling back on clear strategy. The former head of the CIA counter-terrorism task force made it clear that Obama would have been unable to strike without the methods and forces put into place during Bush's presidency. Tomasky bitched and complained that the thousands of brave service members who died did so in vain, yet NOW he whines that people are revolted by the end-zone dance that Odogeater wants to do and that members of his own political party have said they find so revolting?

Can anyone say liberal hypocrisy and feigned outrage?

Hold on

Submitted by Kevin Groenhagen on Tue, 05/01/2012 - 8:35pm.

This effete reporter needs to be reminded that CIA chief Panetta acknowledged to NBC News that intelligence garnered from waterboarding ultimately led us to bin Laden in Afghanistan. That was a practice that Obama criticized.

As far as 9/11, the 9/11 pilots entered this country with improper documents on Clinton's watch. In addition, the 9/11 Commission reported that bin Laden and al Qaeda planned the 9/11 plot during late 1998 and early 1999. This was the very period that Clinton launched a preemptive strike on Iraq and an illegal war of choice on Kosovo.

Imagine

Submitted by Kevin Groenhagen on Tue, 05/01/2012 - 8:39pm.

Imagine how this wimp Tomasky would have reacted if bin Laden had been summarily executed on Bush watch, and that Bush presented no evidence to the American people that bin Laden was actually dead.

What Drivel

Submitted by squirefld on Tue, 05/01/2012 - 11:58pm.

President Alfred E. Neuman aka Jimmy Carter would have had to approve this. Nothing is secret in Washington and if it had gotten out that Obama passed on bin laden he would have been impeached. His attempting to use this to boost his poll numbers, which has him in a panic, is causing a mental disturbance that is clouding his judgement and rational thinking.

Really?

Submitted by Cappmann1962 on Wed, 05/02/2012 - 3:14pm.

"Republicans love to act like tough guys. Yet it’s the Democrat in the White House who got bin Laden—and the GOP that’s throwing a temper tantrum about a modest Obama ad."

Who, exactly, was it in the White House that "got" Bin Laden? How was this ad "modest" when it insinuated that Romney wouldn't have authorized the strike? Why is the ad "modest" while Romney's statement that "Even Jimmy Carter would have authorized it" a heinous deragatory slam on Peanut-Puss? How many on SEAL Team 6 are democrats? I would venture to say that THEY'RE the "tough guys". After all, they're the ones who went through arguably one of the toughest training courses in existance, devote their lives to the defense of this country, put themselves in harm's way, AND PULLED THE TRIGGER on Bin Laden. How many years did Obambi serve in uniform (how many democrats as a whole have EVER worn the uniform)? What physically and mentally demanding training has he gone through? How many times has he been shot at by an enemy combatant? When has he ever suffered more than a paper cut? When has he ever even SERVED this country? Obambi's perspective is that the country is here to serve HIM (and, of course, Moochelle).

BTW Mr. Tomansky, all the questions above are directed at you and your ilk as well. So until you've trained, suffered, sacrificed, and protected this country with your life, all I can say is STFU, go sit in your air-conditioned office, smoke your pot or drink your brandy (or cool-aid as the case may be), collect your overly generous salary, and NEVER, EVER deride your betters (virtually ANYONE in uniform).
