NBC, CBS Spike Dem Adviser's Nasty Comment That Mom Ann Romney Has 'Never Worked'
The NBC and CBS morning shows on Thursday completely skipped any mention of a nasty attack on Ann Romney by Democratic National Committee adviser (and frequent White House visitor) Hilary Rosen. Today and CBS This Morning both ignored Rosen's insult that Mrs. Romney "has actually never worked a day in her life."
Rosen's remarks were made on Wednesday's Anderson Cooper. Today did highlight news coming out of that CNN show, but it wasn't the Rosen story. It was Cooper's riveting "attack of the giggles" that Natalie Morales marveled over: "The CNN host just couldn't keep it together" and suffered a case of the "sillies." This, apparently, was the more important news emanating from Anderson Cooper 360. [See video of the actual Rosen comment below.]
Only ABC's Good Morning America actually covered the story. Anchor George Stephanopoulos explained "all that talk about a war on women in this presidential race is getting personal with a Democratic strategist taking off on Mitt Romney's wife."
However, the ABC graphic oddly put the focus on Ann Romney and not the Democratic operative: "Ann Romney Controversy: Defends Being a Full Time Mom."
While ABC should be given credit for covering the story, correspondent John Berman made sure to highlight, "All of this comes as Romney tries to close a big gender gap. Our latest poll gives the President a 19-point advantage with women."
A transcript of the April 12 segment can be found below:
7:01 tease
GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: Also, boy, this presidential race is heating up so fast. Ann Romney right there, forced into the fray last night. It's all part of the big battle for women voters. She went to Twitter to defend her choice to be a stay-at-home mom. We're going to get to that.

ABC GRAPHIC: Ann Romney Controversy: Defends Being a Full Time Mom
STEPHANOPOULOS: We're going to turn to politics now. Your voice, your vote and all that talk about a war on women in this presidential race is getting personal with a Democratic strategist taking off on Mitt Romney's wife. And Ann Romney striking back immediately on Twitter. It all happened overnight. And ABC's John Berman here with all of the details. Good morning, John.
JOHN BERMAN: You know, George, the second this happened overnight, you knew it would explode. It puts Ann Romney right in the middle of a white-hot debate that deals with politics and motherhood. It began when Hilary Rosen, an adviser to the Democratic National Committee, said this on CNN about Ann Romney, who raised five sons.
HILARY ROSEN: What you have is Mitt Romney running around the country saying, "well, my wife tells me what women really care about are economic issues." And when I listen to my wife, that's what I'm hearing. Guess what? His wife has actually never worked a day in her life.
BERMAN: Boom. Instant Twitter explosion! Ann Romney firing back with her first tweet ever. "I made a choice to stay home and raise five boys. Believe me, it was hard work." Her son Josh jumping in. "Ann Romney is one of the smartest, hardest working women I know. Could have done anything with her life. Chose to raise me." But Rosen didn't back down. Responding, "I'm raising children, too. But most young American women have to both earn a living and raise children. You know that, don't you?" All of this comes as Romney tries to close a big gender gap. Our latest poll gives the President a 19-point advantage with women. And while Rosen doesn't work for the Obama campaign, campaign manager Jim Messina engaged in instant damage control. "I could not disagree with Hilary Rosen any more strongly. Her comments were wrong and families should be off limits. She should apologize." You know, Rosen later wrote an article, saying what she was questioning was Ann Romney's connection to women and their economic problems. I'm sure you'll hear more from Mrs. Romney today. George?
STEPHANOPOULOS: No question about that. John, thanks very much.

Nothing about the Bo and Mo Salad Days
They didn't even mention how the O'Bama's had to scrimp and save when their girls were young and Michelle didn't have the luxury of being a stay at home mom. Poor Bo and Mo, having to eat Wagu Beef Helper two and three times a week.

Me thinks this was another DNC political-season bomb that has really bombed
From what I see today,
From what I see today, Moochelle is a high maintenance woman. She had to work to pay for the clothes, hair styles, jewelry and eating things like Iranian lobster. It is not that Duh One couldn't make if on his salary, he couldn't afford to maintain Mooch.
But, but, but...
It wasn't really nasty, and Rosen responded with "what she really meant". She then followed up with a tweet to Ann Romney welcoming her to twitter. Everything is right with the world now...
Did you notice that
SHE (Rosen) DENIED that deb Washerwoman shultz (fat eds sister) and pelousy EVER used the the term "War on Women" WHAT A STINKING LIAR!!
Yeah, I picked up on that too.
Pretty balsy, but SOP for libs. They embody the old saying - How do you know they're lying? Their lips are moving... Once again, throw a bunch of crap against the wall and see if any sticks. It worked for them on their "domestic" wiretapping shill against Bush and other issues, so why not this too? After all, for many of their supporters, this is the only source of "news" they see, so if they spew this crap, a BUNCH of people will believe it.
5 kids is a lot of work.
5 kids is a lot of work.
~Amen
.
Double Amen
I'm from a big family and my momma had no time for anything as unimportant as a job that paid cash dollars. She was far too busy with important stuff.
According to the federal government I haven't had a job for the past 48 years since I did not work for a salary or hourly wage. I was self employed as a contractor.
Jesus Loves You so much He died for you
Exactly, Cocodrie
Just because Mom stays at home it doesn't mean the family is rich. Oftentimes it means the family has chosen to make sacrifices so that the mom can be home.
NOLA
I think usually families with stay at home mom's aren't rich because the families with working mom's have that much more money. Many times professional women aren't willing to give up the time and money used to get where they are, so they keep working.
So it's not really a matter of money, it's a matter of priorities. Michelle Obama case in point.
I agree, Rad
Priorities matter.
~You ain't kiddin'
My staying home meant a change in living style, but we chose it as the life we wanted for our kids, rather than selfishly insisting on the life we could have had for ourselves, with more disposable income.
One of my clients, years ago, mentioned that his wife had just gone back to work when their daughter was 4 months old, and that she cried the whole first day back at work, but...."She has to work if we're going to maintain the lifestyle we want". He was completely oblivious to what a selfish @ss that made him.
5 BOYS is sainthood material.
Even if she isn't Catholic.
Any Household
That can't make it on $350,000 a year is truly living in Wonderland.
When I was a kid - "No Mothers" was always called.
When we would rank on each other, an unwritten rule was " no mothers". No matter how much you hated someone, you never insulted his mother - ever. Basic stuff Hilary.
There is and has been a war on women, GOP women that is...
Who in their right mind would make this comment? Somehow, I think even Owebama's
Chicago crew is steaming over this gaffe.........
And in all honesty, stay at home moms--->do the food shopping, buy gas, clothes buying, watch
the TV shows/commercials with their kids, etc...they are actually cutting edge, perhaps more than anybody,
on the current economic realities. If President HW Bush had been a stay at home mom, he
wouldnt have marveled at the food scanner, would he ;o)
another lesbo heard from...
HA HA HA HA HA HA
Keep talkin Rosen!!
Love it...
Keep talkin!!!
Even Howard Fineman is saying Rosen was stupid to say it.
While he didn't exactly use the word "stupid", he said it was no way to connect to the suburban voting base by going after a mother of five with multiple sclerosis.
Rosen, who is a lesbian with a life partner and children, put her foot in her mouth. She also claimed the left (more specifically the Obama campaign) never used the term "war on women", yet Pelosi's fundraising literature and Senate Democratic fundraising literature uses that term specifically in at least two pieces. As well, just the sheer idiocy of saying something so easily refuted in terms of context, now she has tried some bad apology and calls all of it "faux" outrage.
The only thing "faux" about the situation is the sincerity of the apology on Rosen's part. She stepped into the cow pattie and is now in it up to her ears, but of course she is blaming others for her own stupidity and clumsiness instead of just admitting she was a moron and a bigot for saying something so outrageous.
Minor correction: Rosen HAD a life partner.
Seems these couples just never seem to stay together and work things out for the 'good of the children' like many of those abbynormal hetero couples do.
Bet the MSM won't show any of
Bet the MSM won't show any of that Pelosi literature or audio/video clips of dems using the phrase to Rosen and have her respond. They'll still cover for her on that end.
DNC just created another GOP voter!
I have no problem with Rosen's idiotic remarks, as long as she would acknowledge in return the fact she has no business ever speaking about brains or beauty. Frankly, I'll give Mrs. Romney a pass any day since what she does with her life is her own darned business; if that isn't enough, I think MS and breast cancer gives her a pass - if not sainthood - in JUST THE SAME WAY JOHN EDWARDS'S WIFE ELIZABETH GOT.
Freaking liberals, what a bunch of judgmental hypocrites. Y'all even have the nerve to put Michelle Antoinette up as a paragon of virtue. Utterly nauseating.
