ABC Parrots White House Spin for Booing of Michelle Obama: 'Not Clear' What Intent Was

Good Morning America's Josh Elliott on Monday repeated White House talking points in regard to the booing of Michelle Obama at a NASCAR event on Sunday. News reader Elliott played a clip of the booing and then parroted, "The White House says it was a chaotic event. It was not clear, perhaps, what the boos were specifically for."

The Today show didn't cover the event at all. On the Early Show, Jeff Glor linked, "Some people booed [Michelle Obama and Jill Biden] when they showed up last night. They were on hand to honor military troops and their families." [See video of the booing here.]

Co-host Erica Hill later repeated, "At other sporting events, this has happened as well. Not everybody always happy but they were there as part of their joining forces initiative to highlight military families."

She also asserted, "A little bit of a controversial moment at NASCAR season finale at the Homestead-Miami Speedway over the weekend."

Glor provided a more blase attitude, pointing out: "They've certainly heard it before, no matter what side of the aisle you're on."

A transcript of the two reports can be found below:

JOSH ELLIOTT: And this morning, the White House is downplaying the reception the First Lady, Michelle Obama, received on Sunday where it appeared that she was booed by fans.

ANNOUNCER: First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden, as they deliver the most famous words in motor sports.

JEFF GLOR: Coming up, a lot of people talking about what happened at NASCAR season's finale last night. And not just about Tony Stewart's win. It's how the crowd reacted to First Lady Michelle Obama and the Vice President's wife Jill Biden. Some people booed them when they showed up last night. They were on hand to honor military troops and their families. We're going to have more on that controversy straight ahead here.

ERICA HILL: A little bit of a controversial moment at NASCAR season finale at the Homestead-Miami Speedway over the weekend.

GLOR: It didn't involve charges of cheating or an accident. Instead, it was the way that First Lady Michelle Obama and Jill Biden were received by the crowd. Take a listen.

ANNOUNCER: First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden as they deliver the most famous words in motor sports.

MICHELLE OBAMA AND JILL BIDEN: Gentlemen, start your engines.

HILL: See, you hear some boos there. Some cheers.

GLOR: A little bit.

HILL: A little bit of a mix and there has been some talk about the boos that happened there. Also, some things written that this was not the first time it happened.

GLOR: Yeah.

HILL: At other sporting events, this has happened as well. Not everybody always happy but they were there as part of their joining forces initiative to highlight military families.

GLOR: Yes, they were there and they've certainly heard it before, no matter what side of the aisle you're on.

HILL: The beauty of politics, right?

They were booing the political sideshow.

Submitted by drsamherman on Mon, 11/21/2011 - 2:01pm.

Attending that NASCAR event had zero to do with supporting military families and everything with a lame attempt by Obama (through Moochelle Antoinette) to do damage control over the multiple insults she and her husband have hurled at the NASCAR fan base since day one. Between her luxury, taxpayer junkets and the phony childhood nutrition campaigns emphasizing the food police, people have had enough. Her own comments about being proud of America only after her husband was elected and her husband's comments about "bitter clingers" resonated negatively with the NASCAR fan base, and they knew a scene of cheap political theater when they saw her in the crowd.

Her greatest transgression . . .

Submitted by Galvanic on Mon, 11/21/2011 - 2:20pm.

. . . was her comment in 2008 that it was the first time in her adult life that she was proud of America.

NASCAR events aren't the kind of venues where that kind of comment goes well.

I'm sure that the DNC will use the imagery of the negative NASCAR reaction as a fundraising gimmick -- more "Obama's a victims"crap. But who cares?

I think they got off lightly with the clearly obvious boos. It's a good bet that the portion of the crowd that weren't booing simply didn't hear the introduction. Not surprising in a crowd of that size. If more people had heard it, the booing would have been incessant and undeniable.

In 1980 I was in Basic Training at Lackland AFB when Carter came to San Antonio for a campaign stop.. That day was one of our two days we were allowed to have in town before graduation, and the hate for Carter after Desert 1 was still fresh............

8 men were still in the burn ward at Wilford Hall Medical Center.. and he shows up in the same town to crow about himself?

You couldn't register the hate the enlisted had for that fool with anything less than a gieger counter, he was and is still that toxic. Officers, unfortunately, often are nonploitical, or careerists, much easier to find a ready audience among them, than the ranks.

by the military, and Obama is despised by the military.

I regret my vote for Carter's re-election--Reagan was the right man at the right time [which I didn't recognize until he was out of office] but I do know how deeply affected Carter was by the tragedy of Desert One, its failure due primarily to an almost bizarre combination of unfortunate factors beyond his control.

But there is an obvious and disturbing pattern of this phenomenon of antipathy regarding the military and US presidents--it seems to be exclusively directed at Democrats. Perhaps it shouldn't be all that surprising given the false narrative constantly peddled by the talking heads on the right, [and piped to our young men and women in uniform serving around the world] viz., that Democratic CIC's loathe America, especially the military and all members of our armed forces.

I'm not a big fan of the booing...........and it was hard to hear how much there really was, but I can say one thing: Moooooooooooochelle has irritated a LOT of people - before and after the election - with her sanctimony and her disdain and her elitist attitude towards the average American - as well as her blatent behavior with regards to the way she has conducted herself as first lady - which, in my own little peabrain, has been pretty condascending and arrogant, especially given the economic conditions that her husband has helped create.

I think she's as phony as a 3-dollar bill, just like her husband..........and there is a LOT of evidence to prove that is true. So when she somehow manages to 'show up' to a NASCAR event - you know, where these white racist rednecks like to drink beer and watch fossil-fuel propelled cars making a lot of noise and going real fast, and being sponsered by EVIL cigarettes , as well as petroleum products..................NONE of which is anything that the First Big Booty endorses or agrees with - it was probably just too much for a lot of those people to take - they aren't as 'stupid' as these elitists think they are - and they're NOT easily fooled.
They're 'country dumb'..............which means they can smell bullsh*t a mile away.

Of course, if it was a fire sale on fashion designs that were discontinued - due to no sales - and it was sponsered by some restaurant that specializes in French fries, arugula, and sirloin steak...............served with expensive vodka............I'm sure that Moooooooooooooochelle would be the first one to show up and endorse it!!!

Submitted by 26CX on Mon, 11/21/2011 - 9:50pm.

Then Paul Breslan wasn't lying under oath when he said that the Clintons used the IRS to target their opponents.  That's good.

Can you please provide a link to your information about the Clintons being cleared of using the IRS to target their opponents?

Submitted by Jer on Mon, 11/21/2011 - 10:18pm.

Here's committee report  [BTW, Roth was chairman, Archer vice-chairman]

Following are comments by Republican Chris Shays in 1998:

REP. CHRISTOPHER SHAYS: Well, I believe that the president committed crimes. I believe he committed even serious crimes. I don't believe he committed high crimes, and that's where I really had to make my determination on whether the president should be impeached or not. I thought high crimes were the misuse of the FBI and the IRS and the White House Travel Office. And Mr. Starr cleared him of that. I thought it was a misuse and high crimes were committed in terms of 900 FBI files in the possession of the White House, mostly Republicans. And Mr. Starr cleared him of that. He cleared him of Whitewater. And so I'm left with the fact that the lesser crimes are really what's before Congress right now. I think that's one reason why the Judiciary Committee started to reach out to see if they could find more, and they're really stuck with the Starr Report. It's just not reaching the level of high crimes.

Will you post your copy of Breslan's affidavit or any other documentary record of his sworn testimony.

Thanks.

No, I will not locate and post a copy of Breslan's affidavit. My source is the story I linked to. If that doesn't meet your stringent legal requirements, that's fine with me.

Well, Jer,

Here is the statement from the article I linked:

"An official with the Internal Revenue Service has admitted that legal opponents of former President Bill Clinton were singled out for tax audits, according to court documents made public this week."

Is it incorrect to think that court documents are created from statements made under oath?

Yes, CX, it is incorrect.

Of course documents filed with the court may be based on sworn statements, but not necessarily. The allegations contained in the initial complaint need not be made under oath.

I thought the issue was addressed by Robert Ray, Starr's successor, in his final report [along with Filegate, travel office, and Whitewater] but if he did I can't locate it. Apparently the congressional committee report on the IRS matter and the Ray report were released on the same day so that may explain some of the confusion--at least my confusion.

That leaves Shay's comments in 1998 about Starr "clearing" Clinton regarding IRS and FBI, and I have no idea what he had in mind.

Under any other circumstance, you'd be correct.  But right about now, I have very little sympathy with Queen Michelle.

Doing things to support the fight against child obesity is one thing, but repeatedly lecturing the American people and talking down to us on the subject is more than I can take.  I'm a runner, for Shahinshah's sakes.  When I hear this pompous creature demanding the rest of us "Be healthy!" and shaking Her finger in our faces the whole time, I say the same thing: "Let's see our Queen run 50 feet, much less 50 yards.  Yeah, she's lecturing the rest of us, but I can smoke that lard-ass and not break a sweat."

The repeated insults by the ruling family to the crowd that typically watches NASCAR events is yet another thing.

And not to be outdone, she is only recently proud to be an American.

She's earning, and getting, what she deserves.  I hate saying this more than you know.  But it's sad but true.

It's clear to me... I'm surprised they didn't put this spin on it...How many times have I heard blacks use the word "boo" as a term of endearment....LMFAO! People hate her condescending attitude about how she knows what's best for you and your kids, and you don't know squat. Maybe it's because she said only 4 years ago that it was the first time in her life that she was proud of her country. Maybe it's because people just simply DO NOT LIKE HER!
