Larry Elder Schools Chris Matthews: I'll Cut You Off 'the Way You Cut Your Guests Off!'
Conservative talk show host Larry Elder on Tuesday grilled Chris Matthews for his hostile treatment of conservatives and dismissed the Hardball anchor's fawning new book about John F. Kennedy. When Matthews objected to the barrage, Elder slapped down his complaints: "I'm sorry for cutting you off the way you cut your guests off!" [MP3 audio of the entire interview here.]
A wounded Matthews responded, "You want to make a point or you want to ask me questions?" Elder played a rant first highlighted by Newsbusters where Matthews frothed that the GOP wants to "get rid" of cops and cause "cruel pain." Elder wondered, "You consider yourself a journalist?" Matthews managed, "No, I'm not down the middle. I'm slightly to the left." (Slightly?)
Elder, who was talking to Matthews on his radio show, challenged the journalist over his revisionist take on Kennedy's actions aboard PT 109 during World War II.
The radio host pushed, "You don’t at all discuss how the boat got into trouble in the first place. A lot of historians feel that it was his own irresponsible handling of PT 109 that caused the boat to get into trouble."
Elder also hit Matthews for leaving out key parts of Kennedy's presidency.
The Hollywood Reporter explained:
Next, when Elder cites historians critical of Kennedy’s handling of the Cuban Missile Crisis, Matthews says: “What is the purpose of this conversation?”
“The purpose right now is to show that you are glossing over Kennedy. You are airbrushing the bad things,” Elder answers.
“Do I have any role in this show, or do I just sit here and listen to your rap?” Matthews says.
“If you wanna hang up, go ahead and hang up, Chris,” Elder says.

LARRY ELDER: You consider yourself a journalist?
MATTHEWS: Yeah, I'm a journalist. I'm a columnist. I'm a commentator. I'm an opinion journalist?
ELDER: No, no, no. A journalist. You think you're an objective, down the middle journalist?
MATTHEWS: No, I'm not down the middle. I'm slightly to the left.
ELDER: Slightly to the left?
MATTHEWS: I'd say 40 yardline.
ELDER: Slightly to the left, for example as when you said this?
CHRIS MATTHEWS: Here's a party that- I'm just keeping the list. They want more people to fry. They love executions. They want people that don't have insurance to die on the gurney in the hospital bed. They want that to happen. They want- forget about illegal aliens. Gay soldiers, forget about them. They're not- they're to be booed. If you're homeless, foreclose- if you have a home, foreclose on the people. If you're a teacher, fireman or a cop, get rid of the guy! I mean, this attitude of causing cruel pain on people and getting cheers for it, what's that about, Howard?

Matthews is not intellectually agile enough to handle a conservative like Larry Elder.
First, Matthews typically bows to any liberal black American's statements and claims. You name 'em: Cornell West, Al Sharpton, Eugene Robinson, Jesse Jackson Jr, Tavis Smiley, Harry Belafonte . . . they say anything and everything and all Matthews ever responds with is his trademark "Wow."
He'll slam conservatives, but he's reluctant to attack black conservatives face-to-face like Larry Elder, Michael Steele, and Alan Keyes because (a) he doesn't want to appear racist, and (b) they're a hell of a lot smarter than he is.

I gues 'vetting' is a problem for liberals when they choose GUESTS too. Looks like Chrissy-boy and his crew failed in their normal job of screening guests so they can keep out the ones who make Chrissy look like the fool that he is. (i.e. pretty much everyone but Joy Bahar and Janine Garafalo).
But the mask has been torn away for a long time now. Everyone knows that BS-NBC is nothing more than Obama's propaganda network and that he owns them, lock stock and barrel. It's only Obama's pilfering of our tax dollars and laundering the money to BS NBC through GE that keeps them alive. Otherwise this failed network would have departed to the dung heap of history ages ago.

Matthews was the guest on Larry Elder's radio show. I would wager and lay odds that it was Matthew's publisher who set up this interview, believing that any free publicity for Matthew's book is better then no publicity.
Elder did a great job.

It gave the Soviets a base for their merrymaking a mere 90 miles from the US, and from which they could launch several initiatives to turn Latin America communist. The Left scores the Cuban Missile Crisis as a victory for Kennedy because they are all hoping and praying that you (nor anyone else) not ever inquire about what LED to it. And it is obvious that what led to that was Kennedy being made Khrushchev's b**** at Vienna in June of 1961.
Little Chrissy sure got all hot and bothered at how Kennedy is viewed by others, is he? If what Mr. Elder is saying about the book is true, then Chrissy just wrote a history book that should be printed on two-ply perforated tissue, on rolls, for use in stalls at history departments everywhere. That is pure, total crap. You CANNOT write a book on a historical figure without including the warts.
Chrissy whining that Mr. Elder was yelling at him, and that "hatred" was tearing apart the country about left me in stitches. If Chrissy thinks its bad now, wait another 20 years. Kennedy's stock is going to plummet, I suspect, in subsequent generations, especially after people from generations not alive in 1961 raid the archives and take a cold, hard, detached look at Vienna 1961.

He cheated on Jackie with so many women that historians probably will never have an accurate account. Some of the names that come to mind are Marilyn Monroe, Judith Campbell Exner (Sam Giancana's moll) and an assorted list of cocktail waitresses, coat check girls and at least a few hookers if the stories told by the White House staff are truthful. Bobby wasn't much better, and the idea that he shared Marilyn with his brother is even creepier. Then we have Teddy the alcoholic, lying, cheating killer. Why read Chrissy's hero-worship book when you can read Frederick Kempe's Berlin 1961 instead? Agree or disagree with its premise...one thing you cannot argue is that it, unlike Chrissy's "work", is an actual book of history.

I cannot tell you how disappointed I have become with Mathews. From my dog ear copy of "Hardball" to Hardball" the show I have followed Mathews for some time. There was a time when Mathews was a conservative dem who would conduct meaningfull debates with cons on whatever the favor topic of the day was. Yes, Mathews would challenge the cons on their politics. But back then these challenges were not an attempt to smear and patronize cons but rather a attempt to give the public a fair view of the differences between the two sides. It was fun and informative to watch. But sadly Mathews sunk to the same gutter level of the Maher, Olberman, and Behar of the media world. The constant trash talking Mathews spews out about the cons has become a nightly bore. It is because of this I had to give up on a guy who at one time had my respect.

this is brilliant. I do wish that Elder hadn't decided to make the whole thing about bashing JFK, who I really don't have an opinion about at this point, but it is great nonetheless. Chris Matthews so RICHLY deserved being interrupted like this, I loved it! I only wish Elder had made more of that as he did with the "I'm gonna cut you off like you cut off your guests."

It seems to me that Tingles' greed for book sales overwhelmed his common sense. He should have known that by going on a conservative program that he would have been asked questions he'd rather not be exposed to. I listened to the entire exchange. I'm wondering what you listened to? I heard a radio host repeatedly pointing out areas that are debated and asking a book author - repeatedly - why these controversies were not addressed in the author's book.
And I heard a book author unable to provide any sort of reasonable explanation - other than the fact that he wanted to write a white washed tribute to JFK as opposed to a balanced accounting of historical facts.
The PT-109 incident has been questioned. Not so much on JFK's heroism after the fact, but in the events and precautions leading up to the incident.
And its an historical fact that Kruschev did believe Kennedy was too inexperienced, and lacked resolve and support to avert the Cuban missle crisis.
In my estimation, though, Matthews was treated with far more dignity and respect that he offers any Conservative he has ever had on his program.
