Hardball Guest: You'd Almost Think Cheney Is an 'Agent of the Nation's Enemies'

Salon columnist Joe Conason appeared on Monday's Hardball to excoriate former Vice President Dick Cheney: "...You would almost think that Cheney was actually an agent of the nation's enemies..." Host Chris Matthews did not disagree or contest this charge.

Conason and Matthews were discussing the war in Iraq and Cheney's continual defense of it. Playing off the Salon.com's columnist's comments, Matthews compared the ex-VP: "That's what they said, by the way, of Joe McCarthy. You couldn't be a better friend to the communist, in effect, than Joe McCarthy."

After the segment's other guest, the liberal David Corn, attacked Cheney as "basically wrong," Matthews blurted, "I think it's going to take a Cambodian reeducation camp to turn him around."

Conason's full comment: "Well, you know, you would almost think that Cheney was actually an agent of the nation's enemies, because everything that he advocates, everything he wants us to do, plays so perfectly into the hands of the people who hate America and who want to create propaganda against us."

CHRIS MATTHEWS: Okay, here's Washington Post's Bob Woodward today. He took Vice President Cheney to task today. Bob Woodward reported that in 2007, Cheney was the only member of the administration advocating a attack on a suspected Syrian nuclear facility. According to the Vice President's memoir, this was despite the fact that the CIA said they had low confidence that the site was being used to create nuclear weapons. Had he learned nothing from Iraq and the missing weapons of mass destruction? And that's my question to you, Joe. There he is right away. And by the way, Woodward just takes him to task for this.

JOE CONASON (Nationalmemo.com): Well, you know, you would almost think that Cheney was actually an agent of the nation's enemies, because everything that he advocates, everything he wants us to do, plays so perfectly into the hands of the people who hate America and who want to create propaganda against us. I mean, it's remarkable. These- This is an outlook that has been designed to damage our prestige and that's what it's done.

MATTHEWS:  That's what they said, by the way, of Joe McCarthy. You couldn't be a better friend to the communist, in effect, than Joe McCarthy.

DAVID CORN: Even if he thought these threats were real and there was a reason to go after them, if you look at how we handled the war, the aftermath, what we did in Afghanistan or didn't do in Afghanistan, they messed it up every step of the way. Not just the reasons to do it, but the doing of it. And, so, it set us back, and that's not just because we attacked, but because we were incompetent after the attack. So, I don't know- Everything Dick Cheney did was basically wrong.

CHRIS MATTHEWS: I think we've got to give up on Dick Cheney, by the way.

CORN: You brought him up, not me, Chris.

MATTHEWS:  I think it's going to take a Cambodian reeducation camp to turn him around.

Iraq vs Germany

Submitted by exLib on Mon, 09/12/2011 - 6:25pm.

Someone mentioned recently that in 1941 over 80% of Americans wanted no part of foreign wars.

THen Pearl Harbor happened and Hollywood, with the help of "all-star" movie maker Frank Capra (Even Alfred Htichcock did one for the UK). His 6 part series defined the goals and objectives of engaging with Germany, a country that DID NOT attack us, and called Germany, Japan and another country that is escaping me as "Axis Powers" and really defined the enemy.

Fast Foward to 2002 and Rumsfeld approached Hollywood to do the same, they declined to do so. Instead engaging in hyper-parisan activity that tore our country apart.

A journalist interviewed many in hollywood and asked them why they never made any movie that showed Muslims as terrorists. They said because it would hurt international sales.

In fact, it was a hyper-partisan decision on the part of Hollywood to trash GWBUsh's Presidency and divide the country and cause hatred and decension against the right.

Consider that even the Anti-War movement of Vietnam attacked the left and trashed LBJ. I was shocked when I saw a old version of the smothers brother's show were Tommy blasted LBJ and soon after the show got canceled.

Consider that Bush was trashed for calling NK, Iraq and Iran the "Axis of Evil". The left said how dare you insult these people, while throwing far worse at the right who opposed them politically.

Consider that Germany also never attacked us, be the country was unified against a common enemy. Even though before the war, many liberals thought Hitler was good guy and not a threat, much like they said about SH after the Iraq War.

Wow! Are the lamestream

Submitted by jdhawk on Mon, 09/12/2011 - 6:45pm.

Wow! Is the lamestream media still trying to blame President Bush? I guess they do anything to turn our thinking away from the worst president in the history of the United States.

It has been three years since President Bush left office. Yet, not one proposal by the dimocrat controlled congress or this president to defund the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. If "tingles" thinks they are so bad and unwarranted, why isn't going after the guy now in charge? Oh! Wait! He is a dimocRAT.

In fact, the war in Iraq is winding down per the Bush schedule. The Afghanistan war has been ramped up and will continue at least through 2014. Meanwhile, President Zero has bombarded at least four other Arab countries. It remains to be seen whether President Downgrade is unwittingly aiding and abetting the Islamo terrorists in those countries to gain power.

Israeli Jets Destroyed Syrian Nuclear Plant

Submitted by jdhawk on Mon, 09/12/2011 - 6:59pm.

My bet is that Cheney did have the Syrian nuclear power plant destroyed. Only, we didn't do it, the Israelis did. Here is the news article from Fox News about the raid: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,301604,00.html

Note, the Israelis did the same to Saddam Hussein's nuclear reactor back in 1981.

Finally, Senator McCarthy was right. Communists had infiltrated our government. The Venona Papers, released in 1995, proved it. The Venona intercepts contained overwhelming proof of the activities of Soviet spy networks in America, complete with names, dates, places, and deeds. Here is a list of the spys in America working for the communist Soviet Union: http://www.conservapedia.com/List_of_Americans_in_the_Venona_papers.

To liberals, Cheney is an agent of the nation's enemies...

Submitted by Marcus Porcius on Mon, 09/12/2011 - 8:01pm.

"Well, you know, you would almost think that Cheney was actually an agent of the nation's enemies, because everything that he advocates, everything he wants us to do, plays so perfectly into the hands of the people who hate America and who want to create propaganda against us."

Almost 100% accurate, except for the word "us" at the end, which is camouflage of course. Cheney does make a perfect propaganda tool for the nation's enemies. They use him almost every day to spread their violent, anti-American and anti-Christian message to millions. And they get paid handsomely to do it, if Chris Mathews' salary is any indication.

The nation's enemies are sitting behind news desks at every state-controlled media outlet and at this point, most agencies of the federal government, and yes, they do love Cheney as a propaganda tool, don't they?

These idiots on the left like

Submitted by rbosque on Tue, 09/13/2011 - 1:29am.

These idiots on the left like Matthews can't promote their Marxist political heroes' accomplishments because there are none. The only thing they have is acting like children with name-calling and throwing obnoxious rants at anything they don't like.

goes, projecting again! Anyone who knows anything about Dick Cheney, knows that he loves his Country and only wants the best for it. I'm not sure Chris Matthews and 90 per cent of his liberal buddies feel the same way. In fact, I know they don't!
