ABC's Avila: Rick Perry 'Does Not Care' About Science, Has 'Close Relationship' With Guns
According to Good Morning America's Jim Avila, Rick Perry "does not care" about the "overwhelming scientific evidence" of global warming. The ABC reporter on Thursday offered a hostile, condescending take on the Texas Governor.
Avila used odd language to explain that the Texas Governor "has a close relationship with guns, carries one while jogging. " Rather than mention the state's record of job creation, Avila lectured, "Rick Perry's Texas pours more greenhouse gas into the atmosphere than any other state in the country and in the campaign trail, yesterday, perhaps we found out why."

According to the ABC journalist, "Unmistakably Texan, unabashedly conservative, Governor Rick Perry does not care about the overwhelming scientific evidence that global warming is largely produced by humans burning fossil fuels."
However, in the clip of Perry that Avila used, the Republican explained, "We are seeing it almost weekly or even daily, scientists coming forward and questioning the original idea that man-made global warming is what is causing the climate to change."
That seems a bit different from Perry saying he "does not care" about scientific evidence.
Avila concluded my asserting, "And, of course, one of his most famous comments was his threat to have Texas secede from the union if America, he said, did not get back on track."
Actually, he didn't "threaten" to secede. Politifact explains:
In April 2010, Perry said in an interview with Newsweek and the Texas Tribune he wanted to clear up his reply on secession the year before. "It was asked as a, you know, what do you think about the people who shout out the word 'secede.' And I say that we live in an incredibly wonderful country and I see absolutely no reason for that to ever happen. …"
We rated Perry’s recap of his 2009 remarks Mostly True because he didn’t acknowledge in the later interview either his position that Texas has the right to secede or his initial speculation about "who knows what may come" from people angry about actions in Washington.
Also, in June 2010, Democratic gubernatorial nominee Bill White said Perry had threatened to secede, a claim we rated False.
Via the Nexis search tool, we found 169 major newspaper articles as of that time linking Perry and secession. But none quoted Perry threatening to push for secession, though critics and comedians framed his words in that way.
Our conclusion was that in a politically theatrical moment, Perry stated an old (and factually incorrect) claim that Texas retains the right to leave the union. That is not the same as his saying giddyap, I want to leave. Perry didn’t call for secession then and hasn’t since.

PERRY: I'm the product of a place called Paint Creek. Doesn't have a zip code. It's too small to be called a town along the rolling plains of Texas.
AVILA: Rick Perry's house had no indoor plumbing and his hometown no stop lights.
PERRY: My dad always referred to it as the big empty.
AVILA: Handsome. Dubbed Governor Good Hair by a Texas newspaper columnist and famous for speaking his mind. So who is this three-term governor of Texas who has never lost an election? Nine straight victories, first as a Democrat.
PERRY: The real action is right here in Texas!
AVILA: A theatrical campaigner, a natural performer who was a Yale captain at Texas A&M. Married nearly 30 years to Anita. They met in grade school and have a grown son and daughter. He has a close relationship with guns, carries one while jogging.
PERRY: The Second Amendment allows me to go jogging with my daughter's dog over here and if a coyote jumps out, I can take care of it.
AVILA: And a not so friendly relationship with the press. He once finished a tough interview with this harsh good-bye.

Gov Perry did say that global warming was a big phoney mess/nonsense.
This is just precious how they are acting so scared of him about his comments and ideas, particularly the gun-carrying part. He's right about the coyotes, what's he going to do if he didn't have his ruger, say "Shoo! Shoo! Go away now!"
And that bit about the reporters? Um, is there a written law somewhere that says he's required to be absolutely nice and charitable to a reporter who's trying to rake him over the coals? Good grief, Gov Christie got tough with the reporters too.

He is not a 'natural born citizen' as that term was understood by either the Founders or by the authors of the 14th Amendment.
Reason: At the time of his birth, neither of his parents were yet US citizens. He is a native born citizen because his parents were present in the US in compliance with the jurisdiction of the United States. i.e., they were here legally. His parents later became naturalized citizens.
I think Senator Rubio is a wonderful Senator. I wish he represented my state instead of the two Democrat worms we have. In spite of this, he is not constitutionally qualified to be President and by extension, Vice President.

The Constitution says it is not enough just to be a citizen to be President. It says :
"No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States."
Natural born does not mean born here or a citizen by birth. It means a person whose PARENTS were citizens. See Minor v. Happersett, 1874. Parents as in both parents, which of course, also excludes Barack Obama. Notice it also excludes US Citizens living abroad who have not resided within the US at least 14 years. Expatriates need not apply.
Moreover, under a proper interpretation of the 14th Amendment, anchor babies are not citizens. The 14th says this : "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside"
What do you suppose the text in bold above means? How are invaders who have forced their way across our borders in defiance of our law and hold allegiance to a foreign state 'subject to the jurisdiction thereof'? You should refer to the speeches and writings of Rep. John Bingham, who wrote these words if you doubt their meaning.

It is immaterial what the Rubio parents' citizenship application status was. Marco was born before they took the oath.
I already observed that Marco himself did not need to be naturalized because his birth conformed to the defininition of native born citizenship in the 14th Amendment. He was born here of parents under the Jurisdiction of the United States. i.e. They were here in accordance with US law and not under any form of immunity such as Diplomatic Immunity. The fact they were legal resident aliens does not alter that.
That still does not qualify Marco to be President under the originalist definition of natural born citizenship, that is, the definition that prevailed for at least the first century of the present Republic.

I think the answer requires not only the text of the 14th Ammendment, but also what Congress has, under the powers granted it by the Constitution, legislated as clarification since the 14th Ammendment's ratification in 1868.
TITLE 8 > CHAPTER 12 > SUBCHAPTER III > Part I > § 1401:
The following shall be nationals and citizens of the United States at birth:
(a) a person born in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof
All US citizens are Nationals but not all Nationals are Natural Born citizens. There is no mention of Natural Born in Section 1401, presumptively because there was no intent to declare these people Natural Born citizens eligible to become President. I don't think Congress forgot to add in Natural Born into the Section.
The citizenship of Rubio's parents is the key in this situation. If Rubio was born on US soil to foreign nationals, and Rubio was not under the jurisdiction of a foreign government, then Rubio is a citizen of the US but not a natural born citizen capable of becoming President.
If there is subsequent legislation that alters the extent of Section 1401 then please post.

Inouye and Shinseki, both born in Hawaii of Japanese immigrant parents. Stephen Chu was born in Missouri of immigrant Chinese parents. Leon Panetta was born in California to immigrant Italian parents. I don't know the citizenship status of the parents at the time of their son's birth. Hilda Solis was born of immigrant parents who met while in citizenship class, so they may have been naturalized citizens by the time their daughter was born. Gary Locke was born in the state of Washington of a second-generation American father and an immigrant mother who's citizenship stauts at the time of her son's birth is unclear on Wikipedia. Ray LaHood's parent's citizenship status at the time of his birth is unclear on Wikipedia.
At this point I stopped investigating and there may be others ineligible to become President based on the Constitution and the various claifications Congress has adopted. But it isn't required to know the law in this matter since none of the Democrats, or the so-called "Independent" Tim Geithner, listed are ideologically fit to be President in my opinion, with the possible exception of Gary Locke since I know very little about him to form an opinion at this time. (Shinseki is undeclared)

This reminds me of Chris Matthews stating Republicans don't believe in science. But to be kind, Avila probably watched Diane Sawyer's "Hype Global Warming" piece as reported by NewsBusters. Furthermore, these left-wing pundits obviously never studied science or they would know that the most abundant green house gas is water-vapor as pockets64 posted below.

You and your environmentalist (read scam artist) would have to produce ANY scientific evidence for global warming to make these comment, here is a hint "There is none".
There is a lot of theories and estimates but no “scientific evidence”. A good number of the scientific community believe this theory but cannot prove it. People like you who know nothing about what you are saying only cause a distrust of the real scientific community. Here is another hint, just because a radical environmentalist or a whack job (Gore) tells you something does not mean that it is true.
The truth is that the environment on planet Earth is changing but there are probably 25-30 theories about why and how, ranging from natural to human, the majority of the funding has gone toward the “Global Warming” THEORY because that is what the environmental faction desires to be true, so they can institute their planned agenda, but they have no sustainable facts to prove it.
A time will come when the scientific community will need to raise a “REAL” alarm about our safety and because of the whack jobs and the environmentalist propaganda their credibility will be worthless and we will pay for the stupidity of the media.

The perfect is not available and could not win if they were. The media would crucify the perfect. The media will not give credit to Newt Gingrich for his balancing the federal budget in the last fifty years four times as many times as everyone else combined.
Reagan had different priorities (winning the cold war) and complete lack of cooperation from Congress but Newt did it without cooperation from President Clinton too. Only Kennedy balanced the budget once in the last seventy-five years but being killed is a good excuse for not doing it twice.

The theory of aperiodic catastrophes where the super volcanos nearly wipe life from a continent while ejecting mutation causing chemicals has only been around a little over a decade. I'm not sure if that will hold up in the long run but when Rick Perry was a kid anyone teaching evolution knew that they were teaching the impossible.

All of our science and technology progress came about in a fact based arena of free inquiry and debate. Politics should stay out as it could kill progress.
