Chris Matthews: Southern 'Secessionists' Want to 'Kill' Obama...'Politically'
By Scott Whitlock | August 03, 2011 | 17:45
MSNBC's Chris Matthews took his hateful attacks on conservatives to a new level, Wednesday, smearing the Tea Party as "southern" "secessionists" who want to "kill" Obama. The Hardball host quickly amended, "politically."
After guest Howard Fineman suggested Republicans have opposed the President from the start, the Hardball anchor retorted, "What? 'We hate you, want to kill you–' politically."
[See video below. MP3 audio here.]
Amazingly, later in the show, during a segment on Rick Perry, Matthews derided a reference to "high-powered bullets" harming the economy. With no self awareness, he yelled, "Don't they know in Texas to stop using bullets as a reference point for presidential candidates. I'm sorry. Stop it!"
After Fineman asserted that those people at Obama's inauguration weren't the ones fighting the President's agenda, Matthews spewed, "It was like the secessionists...Even as he was being inaugurated, the voices of secession were uniting in the south and planning to bring this guy down, right?"
Fineman, a former editor at Newsweek, agreed: "That's my view of it."
In the last six weeks, Matthews has excoriated conservative Republicans as "terrorists," Wahhabis," "kidnappers," "thugs" and "muggers."

CHRIS MATTHEWS: Howard Fineman, what I'm hearing now in the aftermath of the debt fight is that President Obama is somehow engaging in class warfare, divisive politics when from day one, from second one, the goal of the Republican Party of the right, of corporate America, of the Tea Party, the whole shebang has been eliminate this guy's presidency. It's been personal, it's been about him, and it's about hatred.
HOWARD FINEMAN: Well, I think that in a situation like that, people often think that. Your political foes think that, but they didn't used to say it out loud.
MATTHEWS: What? We hate you, want to kill you– politically.
FINEMAN: Politically. Quite the way they did so brazenly at the beginning. I think- was out there on the mall when Obama- when the President was inaugurated. You thought that perhaps all of America was out there. There were a million and a half people there, but it wasn't all of America. It was Barack Obama's America, and the people on the right, the conservatives, the corporate leaders, for the most, part decided from day one that that crowd that they saw in the mall and that President that hey saw taking the oath was not their president.
MATTHEWS: It was like the secessionists. You know, the way you said that, the way you phrased because of your history sense, was almost, like, even as he was being inaugurated, the voices of secession were uniting in the south and planning to bring this guy down, right? And divide.
FINEMAN: Well- That's my, my, my view of it. I think the President made some efforts to reach out. I don't know how wholeheartedly he did. I think he felt from the beginning that his, his overtures would be rejected. The way the things started here in Washington from the very beginning was quite icy and distant from the get-go in the beginning of the Obama presidency.

Either the United States will be a traditional country or a progressive country, and everything would be a whole lot easier of those Middle American Luddites were wiped out.
The only problem is that they do not want to look like they want to start it, so they needle until someone retaliates so that the Left can say "We were only defending ourselves".

But the evidence doesn't support your claim that the MSM took that position "from the beginning". If fact, Bush received positive coverage from the MSM during this first weeks in office--despite the highly controversial election. Even Matthews was gushing over him.

You are apparently unaware of the saying that 'One "Aw shit" wipes out a thousand attaboys'.
In the case of the MSM versus Bush 43, the MSM committed several thousand 'Aw shits' against the man after sending a very limited number of 'attaboys' his way.

I really don't want to go into to it, but it wasn't just about the election. And perhaps it's because I was living in the left coast Los Angeles, and my daughter was in pubic radical liberal schools, and so many friends, and in Hollywood (where it is all radical leftie conservative hate bashers (then as now) , and I was reading and watching the MSM daily -- a great cloud of hate and despair had existed prior to the election, and evolved quickly after the election until I remained generally sick to my stomach with the vitriolic hate spewing that hung in the air everywhere I went. The hate for and despair over George Bush was everywhere in late 2000 and 2001. 9/11 saved him for a little while w/ some of the MSM, but not with the radical left, mind you -- as they went off the cliff as he led/responded.
Naturally, the word from the Bay area, from friends and associates in Boston, NY, the Gold Coast in FL and in Colorado was all the same - they all feared another Reagan. Oh my. And then, they screamed, "he stole the election . . f---k Bush." Sad days for humanity, they were.
After Al Gore lost his immense and shallow effort to steal the election from President Bush, the MSM did settle down a bit for a little while.
Now - when Bush came in, he inherited this economic fallout from the dotcom economic crash of March, 2000, and there was a rush - in both parties - to push their preferred stimulus bills, in order to stave off the expected recession that Clinton had left Bush.
Go find the media coverage that supported (or simply treated fairly) Bush's efforts over the Democrats. Go find the thousand of polls that sought to see if everyone was willing to blame Bill Clinton. I remember the polls - " Most are saying that Tax cuts are the wrong answer now -- that we need a stimulus bla bla . . .Do you think that Bush's . . . ?"
Did you get the entire picture with that last point? The MSM would never allow a conversation that would connect Bill Clinton to the crisis that Bush inherited. In fact, it was so bad, with your buddy Chris Matthews, that Al Gore had to correct him on the facts:
Dec. 11th, 2002 Hardball excerpt - Nothing edited out, mind you:
Interesting? How about twisted and incorrect. Even with Al Gore attempting to set the record straight - and straight to Chris Matthews' face, it wasn't to be heard by Chris Matthews.
It was, at the time, the news of the day -- something that the national media did not allow to be discussed prior to the election, during the election, and not in the many years since.
Go look at the polls. One after another, for many many years now, where the want is to try to entice the public to pin the blame on President Bush.
Find me a poll that ever dared to ask, back in the 2001-2003 stretch, about what Bush inherited from Bill Clinton.

Here's some of that non-stop MSM "nastiness" directed at Bush, including commentary from Matthews.. [Can you imagine your buddy Rush saying anything even remotely like this about Obama? No, you can't. It's physically impossible for the mind to even conceive of it.] And that's not all.. The polls show GWB received more favorable press than Gore during the 2000 campaign. Sure, the media turned against him-and emphatically so--after the Iraq war started going down hill. But the notion that they crucified Bush as soon as he walked into office and that it continued unabated for eight straight years is nonsense.
Enjoy.

Not unlike when the Seals went in, in the daring raid to kill Bin Laden -- even the conservative media were showering praise on the mission and the President's decision. And yes, as a bit of time went by - there was much debate on the method and whether or not, much of the road which enabled the intelligence to be garnered for this mission to be carried out, was paved because of the Bush/Cheney administration's efforts and policy.
With the Aircraft landing by Bush to congratulate and to honor those who had just completed their successful mission in the early days of the Iraq war - most took a few minutes to properly observe the obvious facts and emotion of the moment. Starting a few minutes later, and continuing until this day is rather consistent smear mongering and disgusting jokes about President Bush's performance and the purpose that day. Needless to say, it is the Chris Matthews of the world who are the leaders in such trash.
And, as I noted, my view was not limited to Los Angeles, Boston, or New York. It is the bread and butter of the national MSM.

If you wish for me to comment on the specific Gore and Matthews exchange, then link it for me. [And that's not a knock on your sourcing, since you are one of the top two or three members here who continually take the time to furnish links to back up your arguments.] Matthews criticized Bush later in his presidency as did many pundits left and right, but he had lavished him with praise for quite a while. After all, he had voted for him.
As far as your anecdotal reminiscences about the disparagement of Bush you experienced at various times and places, I neither doubt it nor can I contest what you may have heard or read. I can also assure you I encountered countless incidents of ear-scorching invective hurled at the Clintons and Gore in the part of the country where I reside. And it was also reported coast to coast.
As far as the Seals and Bin Laden, yes there were words of praise for the President from responsible conservative outlets. But not from the King of Conservative Media, Rush Limbaugh, who responded with mocking sarcasm. Nor from the likes of Pamela Geller and the Ace of Spades who spun the WH Insider fable, swallowed whole by most of the NB community.

Perhaps because you are on a different page than most here, you choose to forget that the fever that swept America was due to the fact that we all felt we had exacted justice for our friends, families or our fellow citizens, who were killed. wounded or other wise injured, in the celebratory atmosphere that we felt at the accomplishment of our troops.
Your example is weak and shallow. To expect Matthews to say otherwise is akin to having Cronkite disparage Doolittle's attack on Tokyo. The weight of the country was in support of the feeling of exacting some revenge. Someone spat in America's face. Someone paid for it. The euphoria caused by a nationwide feeling of striking back left people like Matthews in no position to attack Bush.
BTW a comment from Cronkite, an example of gobbledygook that addresses all of the "left leaning" journalists.
Time maggotzine 2003
"Q: Do you believe most reporters are liberal?
Cronkite:
I think they're on the humane side, and that would appear to many to be on the liberal side. A lot of newspaper people—and to a lesser degree today, the TV people—come up through the ranks, through the police-reporting side, and they see the problems of their fellow man, beginning with their low salaries—which newspaper people used to have anyway—and right on through their domestic quarrels, their living conditions. The meaner side of life is made visible to most young reporters. I think it affects their sentimental feeling toward their fellow man and that is interpreted by some less-sensitive people as being liberal."
After due consideration, I say "Interpret this!"
PS Liberals attempt to resolve issues based on being humane. Conservatives try to resolve issues on answers that are germane.

O/T: A Fable of Life

On the first day, God created the dog and said, "Sit all day by the door of your house and bark at anyone who comes in or walks past. For this, I will give you a life span of twenty years."
The dog said, "That's a long time to be barking.. How about only ten years and I'll give you back the other ten?"
So God agreed......
On the second day, God created the monkey and said, "Entertain people, do tricks, and make them laugh. For this, I'll give you a twenty-year life span."
The monkey said, "Monkey tricks for twenty years? That's a pretty long time to perform. How about I give you back ten like the dog did?"
And God agreed......
On the third day, God created the cow and said, "You must go into the field with the farmer all day long and suffer under the sun, have calves and give milk to support the farmer's family. For this, I will give you a life span of sixty years."
The cow said, "That's kind of a tough life you want me to live for sixty years. How about twenty and I'll give back the other forty?"
And God agreed again......
On the fourth day, God created humans and said, "Eat, sleep, play, marry and enjoy your life. For this, I'll give you twenty years."
But the human said, "Only twenty years? Could you possibly give me my twenty, the forty the cow gave back, the ten the monkey gave back, and the ten the dog gave back; that makes eighty, okay?"
"Okay," said God. "You asked for it."
So that is why for our first twenty years, we eat, sleep, play and enjoy ourselves. For the next forty years, we slave in the sun to support our family.. For the next ten years, we do monkey tricks to entertain the grandchildren. And for the last ten years, we sit on the front porch and bark at everyone.
Life has now been explained to you.
There is no need to thank me for this valuable information. I'm doing it as a public service. If you are looking for me I will be on the front porch.

Newsbusters is great at pointing out the white house directed propaganda from the MSM, or collectively, Provda. This is no joke, the DHS is going out of its way to label Americans, specifically conservative Americans as terrorists. Provda, the MSM, is at the same time labeling the tea party supporters as terrorists, just about every time they say tea party, they say terrorist. All they do is cry about the tea party. American voters support the tea party movement in a big way, these elitist trash in the government and media are calling you a terrorist and directing law enforcement and citizen spy snitches to label you as a terrorist. Nazi Germany was just like this with Jews, then they flipped it to the rest of the population. What we are seeing is no different. Our society is being destroyed from within by the DHS, and the MSM (Provda). Soviet Russia did the same thing, all totalitarian governments do this. Time to wake up, we are not in Kansas anymore.
