ABC Ignores Its Own Poll Showing Bleak Numbers for Obama on the Economy
ABC on Monday and Tuesday ignored its own poll's finding that 37 percent of Americans now believe that Barack Obama's policies are hurting the economy. No mention was made of the results on Monday's World News or Nightline.
On Tuesday, Good Morning America news anchor Josh Elliott vaguely explained, "And a new ABC News poll finds Americans are increasingly pessimistic about the future. 68 percent who suffered a layoff in their household say jobs remain very hard to find in their area."
However, no one on the program highlighted respondents' negative feelings towards the President. The 37 percent number is a six point jump since October.
In comparison, the Washington Post, who partnered with ABC for the poll, devoted 724 words to the story and put it on A3.
Post writers Ylan Q. Mui and Jon Cohen explained:
The poll showed support for Obama’s economic agenda has begun to slip in the past nine months. The percentage of people who said Obama has made the economy worse jumped six points since October to 37 percent. That creates a bigger opening for Republican attacks as the presidential campaign begins to heat up.
More bad numbers for the President included only 31 percent of liberal Democrats saying they "strongly" support Obama, down from 53 percent.
The poll was from a July 17 survey. But, the data from it was just released on Monday. Considering that GMA on Tuesday had time for a segment on a grizzly bear attack and a shark attack, they probably could have found time for this story.
A transcript of the July 26 news brief, which aired at 8:03am EDT, follows:
JOSH ELLIOTT: And a new ABC News poll finds Americans are increasingly pessimistic about the future. 68 percent who suffered a layoff in their household say jobs remain very hard to find in their area.

ONLY 37% ?
The other 67% aren't paying much attention
yep good numbers just
yep good numbers just expressed it differently above.
they can ignore all they
they can ignore all they want, everyone else isn't..
Of course they do
Mentioning it will get you taken out of line.... where you won't get your recycled Obama KOOL-AIDE straight from the Font it comes from...... no matter that you have your triple thick padded knee braces or your extra springy spring loaded neck brace... your lips will be pried off and you will be sent to cover David Axelrods dog walker...........
Similar to CNN's poll last week, ABC doesn't like the data . . .
. . . So watch for it to conduct a new poll today with the questions cleverly reworded to produce the results they desire. I offer some examples:
1. Yes or No. Do you blame the disasterous economic policies of George W. Bush for the slowness of the economic recovery stimulated by our President.
2. From the list below, select the government activity that should be cut the most in order to reduce Federal spending.
a. Lifesaving health care to our elderly citizens
b. Education for our children
c. Vital social security checks for our most needy citizens, many of whom are veterans
d. Expensive weapons systems that our dedicated military leaders say are unnecessary
Well, you get the idea.
I happened to watch ABC World
I happened to watch ABC World News last night. Diane Sawyer favored us with an "update" (on a story she's covered 3 times already) about some stupid penguin that washed up on the beach in New Zealand several weeks ago.
He's now in a zoo. I think she said he's eating whatever they're serving him.
they can ignore all they
they can ignore all they want, everyone else isn't..
