Chris Matthews Slams 'Evil' Rush Limbaugh for Spreading Climate Change 'Lies'

By Scott Whitlock | June 22, 2011 | 18:08

A frothing Chris Matthews on Wednesday excoriated Rush Limbaugh as "evil" for spreading "lies" about global warming.

The Hardball host highlighted a new Rolling Stone article by Al Gore that chides Barack Obama for not doing enough on climate change.

Matthews, however, chose to attack Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh: "These people are evil in what they're doing. I'm not saying their souls are evil, but what they're doing is really, really wrong and it's not the President." [See video below. MP3 audio here.]

The MSNBC host declared no room for debate on global warming, announcing, "But here is a fact on the table. Global warming, climate change, Rush Limbaugh says stuff that...is just not true. I never use the word lie, but it's appropriate here."

Piling on, Matthews accused Limbaugh of being disingenuous: "Rush Limbaugh is not a stupid person. Glenn Beck is not stupid. They're saying it on purpose."

After calling Limbaugh "evil," Matthews compared him to a raging inferno: "Churchill, my hero, said this once, 'I refuse to be impartial between the fire brigade and the fire.' The President is the fire brigade on this. He may not be the greatest fire brigade, but damn it, he's not the fire. Glenn Beck is. Rush Limbaugh is the fire."

"Evil" is a term Matthews likes to throw around. He previously used the word on Newt Gingrich and mocked him for looking like "the devil."

[Thanks to MRC intern Alex Fitzsimmons for the video.]

CHRIS MATTHEWS: Well, what do you think is the problem? The Republican Party are basically aligning themselves as anti-science, with some exceptions like Huntsman. They're willing to go out there and say they believe the world is about 5,000 years old. They basically go back to fundamentalist views about creationism and they really don't have any problem being anti-science. Isn't that really the problem? Not that Gore has a problem with Obama? Where's the problem with climate change? Isn't it that half the country is being sold nonsense?

5:23

MATTHEWS: Have we ever had a time where one side is willing to just say something- We can argue about wars and there's always issues of values and measuring facts. But here is a fact on the table. Global warming, climate change, Rush Limbaugh says stuff that is just non- well, is just not true. I never use the word lie, but it's appropriate here.

JOAN WALSH: It is, it is.

MATTHEWS: People like, you know, Glenn Beck, I heard him months or years ago on the radio before he was on TV saying there's no climate change, playing, pandering to these business types, pandering to people who don't want to deal with reality. These people are evil in what they're doing. I'm not saying their souls are evil, but what they're doing is really, really wrong and it's not the President. It's this corrupt media on the right. You know, it's corrupt media on the right.

WALSH: Because- It's money. Well, serving the interest-

MATTHEWS: They're making good salaries telling people what they know is not true. Rush Limbaugh is not a stupid person. Glenn Beck is not stupid. They're saying it on purpose.

...

MATTHEWS: I would just say about our President, and he is our president, on my issues, he's always my President, on some of the big ones like climate change, race, things like that, wars. My belief is this: Churchill, my hero, said this once, I refuse to be impartial between the fire brigade and the fire. The President is the fire brigade on this. He may not be the greatest fire brigade, but damn it, he's not the fire. Glenn Beck is. Rush Limbaugh is the fire. The Chamber of Commerce, the Wall street Journal editorial page, they are the fire. Let's not forget it.

Someone should remind Matthews that Churchill allegedly also once said that, "If you don't vote Labour (Liberal) when you're 20yo. you have no heart. If you don't vote conservative when you're 40yo., you have no brain".

Blow it out your tingly leg,

Submitted by Slyrr on Wed, 06/22/2011 - 6:32pm.

Blow it out your tingly leg, Chrissy-boy.

The American people aren't buying your nonsense anymore.

Too many of your beloved 'scientists' have been unmasked as collaborators to Demorats, caught red-handed with their fingers in the cookie jar. 'Hide the decline'? Your dear 'consensus' experts snared in direct and demonstrable lies about the sea level? Moving their thermometers to hotter locations to inflate their numbers? You can't paper over your lies anymore.

The only reason the pretense continues is because your trained chimps are in Washington, desperately trying to prop up the crumbled facade of 'global warming'. Once they are all cast out of office, we can roll back their stupid 'cap and trade' nonsense. We'll re-institute drilling, start making refineries, building power plants and everything else that you morons have been blocking for so long.

Chrissy-boy and all his cohorts will scream about how 'their' country has 'lost its soul', and they'll rage about moving to France or Russia or China. Then they'll remain here as the bitter haters they always have been and always will be.

If a Liberal/Democrat politician/media figure wants to put their arms around you, or pat you on the back, all they're doing is looking for a good place to stick a knife.

It is really funny the way

Submitted by Dan The Man 2 on Wed, 06/22/2011 - 7:08pm.

It is really funny the way they touted the "rise" and now that its the "decline" and they changed the to Global Climate Change. The main thing is don't let the facts get in the way of a good ride. The water level rise is funny as some guy I was arguing with told me the rise and I asked what the historical rise in the last hundred years was and he was silent. I asked him about the last 20, last 10 and still he was silent. People want to believe repeat popular sound bites and do not think. That includes all people ... yes me too.

What Rush failed to mention

Submitted by Kingfish17 on Wed, 06/22/2011 - 7:08pm.

I only caught a few minutes of Rush's show today, and heard him talking about Al Gore and how Gore is shifting his focus to "population explosion" and women's so called rights to plan and limit pregnancies so they can reduce the number of children being born.  Rush didn't mention this, but it's obvious to me that Gore is hailing back to the clarion call of Eugenics from the late 1800's and early 1900's, that led to massive genocide around the world.

It's easy to see that when Gore talks about limiting the number of babies being born, he is not talking about European or Caucasian babies, who are being born at a rate that barely replaces the population of these groups.  If the whole world had zero population growth, Gore wouldn't be commenting on this at all.  The only way to stop population growth is to reduce the number of "brown", (non-white), people being born.

I can't believe Rush didn't pick up on this.

(And no, I'm not saying that Gore is in favor of genocide.  But the mainstream acceptance of eugenics helped pave the way for the genocide that occurred throughout the 20th century.

I have over the course of the last two years come to the conclusion that we are actually witnessing an attempt by the left wing media, aided by socialist elements in our government,to subvert our laws and Constitution. In days gone by many of these people would be brought up on charges of treason. Some have even been filmed openly calling for the destruction of our country. Labor leaders have publicly stated, that if persuasion was not successful, then force would be relied on. I hope that they don't actually believe that anyone is fooled by their lies. May God have mercy on their souls because I have my doubts about the amount of mercy that will be shown to them by the Citizenry should they take this lame brained farce of theirs too far.

I'm sure Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck are both quite upset about being called "evil" by Chris Matthews regarding their skepticism about man-made "climate change". The earth has gone through 6 ice ages. That's 6 times the planet has transitioned from hot to cold and back. All that before man walked the planet and burned his first piece of coal.

So how is climate fluctuation caused by man this time?

Rush Limbaugh is evil! Rush Limbaugh is evil! Bad Man!

Submitted by Rush Fan on Wed, 06/22/2011 - 11:23pm.

I love it, and so does Rush, when the left uses his name in vain. Publicity is always good when it's used by the Left to attack those of us on the Right, especially the Doctor of Democracy.

A PERSONAL MESSAGE TO CHRIS MATTHEWS:

You need to calm down Chris. I'm really worried that your anger will increase your blood pressure and affect your heart and your health.  Let me make a suggestion to you that works for me. When I'm angry or upset, as when I watch or listen to you, even for a minute, my blood pressure begins to rise.  When that occurs,  I take a timeout and have a TEA break. TEA is good for the heart and good for the soul. So Chris, when you feel stressed after a day of spewing nonsensical hatred and banality, have some good, healthy TEA.

regards,

Rush Fan

Even if they're right

Submitted by mustango on Wed, 06/22/2011 - 11:31pm.

If, and let's just say this for the sake of argument, IF AGW is real, and as a result there actually IS a preventable climate catastrophe in, say, the next 10-20 years, do you know who I'll blame?

I'll blame the corrupt, idiot scientists who torpedoed their own credibility by abandoning the scientific method because it was deemed "too important" to risk drawing the non-alarmist conclusion.

Of course, I feel very strongly that no such event will occur. But the point is, EVEN IF THEY'RE RIGHT, and even if they're proven right in a SPECTACULAR way, they're still oh so very much in the wrong.

Who is evil?

Submitted by Nonanon on Wed, 06/22/2011 - 11:51pm.

If the consequences were not so serious, this would be hilarious! Someone from the party that builds its platform on breaking most of the Ten Commandments calling someone who disagrees with them (and who has science on his side) evil. Sometimes the thought or perhaps fear of what these people are capable of passes through my head. Many seem to have no qualms with harming those who disagree with them, and since this is another one of their major religious planks, it gives cause for concern. Conservatives consider liberals opponents and try to get them to change their minds or ideas whereas liberals consider conservatives as evil and several have stated their desire that conservatives die or get killed. How long before they refuse to restrain such emotions and act on them?

As for the "anti-science" charge, do they really ever think about what had to happen for evolution to have produced everything? Had a church produced this theory, it would have been laughed out of existence. But they label it science and many people just accept it as truth. To have the planets, stars, sun, and all other pieces of the universe just come into existence with no life, then to have life begin then to have that life mutate into all of the complex chemicals, organs, beings, etc. is such a statistical impossibility. Think about what had to happen to produce such processes as photosynthesis, respiration, digestion, hibernation, vision, hearing, healing, reproduction, migration, etc. Things such as this require so much blind hope that they are beyond faith.
