On Osama's Death Day, Chris Matthews Waits Just 43 Seconds to Launch Into Another Birther Rant
Chris Matthews' obsession with birthers didn't take a break on the day after the killing of Osama bin Laden. Only 43 seconds into Monday's show on the terrorist, the Hardball anchor connected, "Barack Obama. The cool hand directs the operation step by step. All this time, the crazies were talking birth certificates, he was working."
Politicizing the death of the man who murdered 3000 people, Matthews berated, "Will this make the Republicans look for someone who can do what Obama can do? Or will they keep on celebrating the clown show?"
The liberal cable host jeered, "Will they stop enjoying their passion and go from cheering their buffoon parade to finding a real pick to put up against a proven master and commander?"

Later, Matthews interviewed Politico's John Harris and Major Garrett of National Journal.
Garrett paraphrased Obama from 2008 on fighting terrorism and opined, "'I'm going to fight it hard. I'm going to think about it new and prosecute that war more aggressively than the current president,' which he has done."

MATTHEWS: Okay, let's talk politics. Back during the last election, not too long ago, 2008, here's President Obama in a presidential debate with John McCain. Let's listen to what he said about, well, you'll see.
BARACK OBAMA: If we have Osama bin Laden in our sights and the Pakistani government is unable or unwilling to take them out, then I think that we have to act. And we will take them out. We will kill bin Laden, we will crush al Qaeda. That has to be our biggest national security priority.
MATTHEWS: Bin Laden, done that. As I said at the beginning of the show, John Harris. I tell you, that's a pretty good commercial right there. I would guess if he can get this back in the cross hairs as an issue next year. That ad, we just saw. Your thoughts, John Harris?
JOHN HARRIS: No, there is no question this is a very authentic mission accomplished moment. Not detracting at all from Major's point we saw again and again. We saw it in 1992 when President George H.W. Bush sought re-election and the victory in the Iraq war didn't do much to help him. It's true the issues that are most salient might not relate to national security next year. Nonetheless, it is a powerful mission accomplished moment that I think radiates, as you say, an impression of competence, effectiveness, command, well beyond the specific issue that's going to help President Obama in all sorts of different ways.
MATTHEWS: Last thought, Major about that. How does he show competence about gas prices? Just get them down. That's what competence is about, right?
MAJOR GARRETT: That's right. There are only so many things. It shows a continuum of competence. If you look at what President Obama said during the campaign, not just about bin Laden but about the Afghanistan campaign in general. I'm going to fight it hard. I'm going to think about it new and prosecute that war more aggressively than the current president which he has done. And now in Afghanistan he has some progress and in Pakistan went on his own and got the result everyone in the country wanted to see. Secondarily, Chris, I think it's enormously important what we saw last night. Young people around the country, here in Washington, of course, and New York City coming to the streets to celebrate. Young people who vote and whose lives have been defined by the war on terror and all the things that it's inflicted upon us, not only psychically but operationally. I believe in one element of the youth vote and energizing the Obama campaign for 2012, this will have enormous impact, because these kids remember what it's like to grow up with bin Laden as sort of the biggest monster in their world. He's now gone. The war on terror feels more effectively fought under Obama than it may have to them under President Bush. I think that will have residual effect.

There are times when it seems like Chrissy is actually a fake Democrat, like how Colbert is a fake Republican. Because his hyperbolic and completely over the top love for the left and seething resentment of the right seems more like a brilliantly exaggerated parody of a liberal than an authentic one. If you try watching him or reading his transcripts with that in mind, it becomes completely hilarious.
But even if that's not the case, his rants are still good for a chuckle.
Progressives seem to be completely averse to facts and logic. Apparently, reality has a conservative bias.

America propped up Bin Laden's career and funded his operation until he turned on the U.S. His role as a leader of terrorism was a backlash against the double speak of the U.S. Even when suspicions were that he was hiding or being protected by other extreme muslim terrorists in Afghanistan and Pakistan, the American Congress and President KEPT sending foreign aid to these countries. Isn't it time to 1.) stop the foreign aid to extreme muslim terrorist nations, 2.) quit trying to "prop" up our favorite dictators and thugs around the world and 3. start the prosecution of Obama, Holder, Napolitano and Clinton for doing the same in Mexico through the AFT's Project Gunrunner!

Can Matthews actually believe people are going to look at this one single Presidential thing Obama has done and it will erase the reality that the United States is in collapse by nearly every measure? Is it possible that he really does think that a man who is defined by his dithering ineptitude is a master commander? I can't tell if Matthews is frightened and desperate to bolster Obama's image or simply delusional. I know that he goes into contortions to justify Obama's worthiness as President, but this "master" thing is way out there.
As to the birther thing, it is so threadbare even Matthews ought to be aware of the ridicule he garners for himself in continuing to push the issue. -bidn-

That assclown couldn't direct a Girl Scout cookie drive. This slobbering adoration of an empty suit is just disgusting. His only actual action was to give the presidential go ahead authorizing the invasion of a foreign country (a distopic chaotic tribal mess actually that calls itself a country).
Even with that, I heard a caller put up what I consider one of two causes for Obumbles doing this. The caller said someone in the military had "leaked" that they would leak it to the press just before the election that OBL was in a known place and the military had a 99% chance plan to get him and Barry chickened out.
My take on it, perhaps in concert with that idea, is that Barry is thrashing about looking for campaign points because he knows he toast on the economy. He awards an MOH to a living soldier. He gives up his birth certificate. He goes after OBL. He attacks Libya. I believe he's trying to gin up some "war president" bona fides. Lots of luck with that. The OBL strike almost went south with another crashed chopper. Libya is a flamming disaster. Etc.

Both Obama and Bush deserve credit. I hold that the military and intelligence services deserve much more credit.
However, the problem I haved is that the Left attacked, spit upon, deried the tacticst Obama used to locate and have Osama Bin Laden killed when these were created and used by President Bush. NOw, however, the Left is all giddy and happy.
Jer, even you can see the hypocrisy by the Left. It is hard to applaud Obama when as a Senator he attacked Bush for the harsh interrogations which he now used to find and kill Obama.
It is also now know that the trail to find Osama became hot thanks to detainees at Gitmo. Imagine if they had closed it as Obama and the Left wanted. Of course Obama hasn't done anything to close it and the Left forgives him, but they bit Bush head over Gitmo.
I applaud the military, the Navy Seals, the Intelligence community. I applaud Bush for putting into play what eventually led to finding Osama and I applaud Obama for giving the go ahead and using Bush's tactics to capture Osama.
Also, I would encourage you how the Left did not exactly rejoice over the killing of Al-Qaeda's second in command and how they also barely rejoiced when Saddam Hussein was captured.
Hard to applaud a President who stood up against Bush and then turns around and uses the same tactics he attacked Bush for.

Look...I give Obama credit for recognizing this as the right time and place to carry out this attack...He could have decided not to green light this operation. That said, the framework and much of the groundwork for this operation were laid in place long before Obama became president...We can all thank President Bush for that. Obama, to his credit, did generally pick up where Bush left off, although he has made the idiotic decision to water down many of our interrogation tactics which Bush and Co. put in place, which, ironically, lead to some of the intelligence that helped bring this successful operation about.
Matthews is, surprise surprise, in full orgasmic mode about all this, which is exactly what I expected from him today...He can rant and carry on about how "masterful" and "commanding" Obama is all he wants, but the fact remains that gas prices are still going through the roof, inflation is rising, millions are still out of work, and the deficit remains astronomical, and those are the issues that Obama is still in huge trouble about.

Or NewsBusters contributors looking for material. The truth (painful if you're a liberal) is that Bush was the head coach of the entire operation that resulted in bin Laden being found and killed. Obama was just the water boy who happened to stumble into the coaches office at the right time.

I happened to be watching Matthews when he opened with that statement and I actually laughed out loud. It really seemed like an SNL skit where they go way over the top for the sake of humor. And it occurred to me that the best way to watch Matthew's show is to think of it as a parody, just like SNL. That way it can actually be quite enjoyable and a source of great humor. At least it beats a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

When I first heard about the planned GZ visit I thought "How many other times has he been there?" Because I just knew this was more political theater than anything else.
After reading your post I Googled "obama visit ground zero." Every return was dated May 2011 until the ninth entry on page 3. That one was dated Sep 11, 2008 and referred to Obama and McCain both visiting the site, curiously right in the midst of campaigning. Hmmmm.
Even jumping ahead to PAGE 35 of Google hits revealed no other story of Obama at GZ other than the compaign-centric visit in 2008. There were some entries about Biden going in 2010 while Obama went to the Pentagon, but that's it.
Just seems too politically motivated for my taste. Maybe someone can link to a story about Obama visiting GZ between 2008 and today. I couldn't find one.
