ABC Touts Anti-Nuke Activist, Ex-Aide to a Lefty Organization as Experts on Crisis in Japan
Good Morning America on Monday featured two liberal experts to explain the escalating crisis in Japan, but didn't identify the leftist background of either. Co-host George Stephanopoulos identified Joe Cirincione as someone "who has also spent many years inside the U.S. government dealing with nuclear issues."
The ABC anchor failed to mention that Cirincione previously worked for the liberal Center for American Progress and was the director of the Carnegie Endowment for Peace. (Stephanopoulos only explained Cirincione's current job, President of the Ploughshares Fund, a group dedicated to achieving a "achieve a safe, secure, nuclear weapon-free world.")
At one point, the journalist offered a mildly challenging question, wondering, "And the White House doesn't seem to be in a red alert status. Is that being too complacent?" Cirincione responded by defending, "The Japanese are some of the best in the world at this. But nobody's been prepared for this kind of thing."
The segment's other guest, Michio Kaku, currently has a radio show on Pacifica Radio. He's also been active in the global nuclear weapons movement and opposing Ronald Reagan. Stephanopoulos simply identified him as a physicist.
The disaster in Japan is unfolding and neither expert was overtly political. However, Stephanopoulos promised both guest would be back on Tuesday. Will the host, a former Democratic operative, alert the GMA audience to their liberal perspective?
A partial transcript of the March 14 segment, which aired at 7:14am EST, follow:
GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: We're going to get some more perspective now on the nuclear disaster, from the men who have become our in-house experts, physicist Michio Kaku from the City University of New York and Joe Cirincione, president of the Ploughshares Fund, who has also spent many years inside the U.S. government dealing with nuclear issues.
...
STEPHANOPOULOS: So, Joe, what should we be watching for the next 12, 24, 36 hours? And when will we know when we're out of danger of that complete meltdown?
JOE CIRINCIONE (Nuclear Security Expert): Unfortunately, I think this is going to go on for quite some time. Up until this morning, we had been looking at two scenarios. A worst case scenario, that is a complete meltdown. So, a Chernobyl type meltdown.
STEPHANOPOULOS: But, do you agree? Do you think that's possible as well?
CIRINCIONE: It's absolutely possible. And not only that, it's absolutely possible at multiple reactor sites. We've never encountered this kind of situation before in history. The best case scenario is a shutdown, that we get control and yesterday we thought that might be happening, where the temperatures were cooling, the gasses were being reduced and we get control. Now, we have a third scenario that's unfolding just this morning where we're looking at possibly an extended period of this crisis. Neither meltdown, nor shutdown. Venting radioactive gasses, meaning that large parts of the surrounding Japanese countryside could remain uninhabitable for weeks or months.
STEPHANOPOULOS: I know that the U.S. officials believe the Japanese officials are very sophisticated in dealing with these kinds of problems.
CIRINCIONE: Absolutely.
STEPHANOPOULOS: And the White House doesn't seem to be in a red alert status. Is that being too complacent?
CIRINCIONE: The Japanese are some of the best in the world at this. But nobody's been prepared for this kind of thing. A double-blow. We are beyond a reactor crisis at this point. This is a nuclear system crisis. The entire northern part of Japanese nuclear power system has been delivered a body blow. We don't know if the system can recover. Can they contain it? If they can can contain it, can they restore electricity? Eleven reactors have been knocked out. Five are at critical condition. Even if they can do that, can they restore the faith of the Japanese people, in a nuclear power industry that provides 30 percent of the country's electricity?
STEPHANOPOULOS: I'm sure we will have you both back here tomorrow to get the latest.

Rush Limbaugh made an interesting point

Rush just made an interesting point on his radio show. The safest place to have been during the earhquake and tsunami was inside one of those nuclear power plants."You can’t go take a trip to Las Vegas...on the taxpayer’s dime." Barack Obama
Anti-science

Liberals smugly accuse Conservatives of being anti-science because some Conservatives question evolution and most doubt global warming. Let's see how Liberals really compare (let me know if I forgot any):- Afraid of immunizing their children
- Worry over chemical pesticides
- Nervous about chemical fertilizers
- Want to ban genetically modified food
- Think irradiated food will give them cancer
- Want an end to nuclear power
For a while there were no serious nuclear accidents and they started to think nuclear power might help slow down global warming. Let's see how this plays out.Keeping it real -

Fox News never identifies Kaku in such a way either and it has him on regularly in the light of an "expert".

And because of the stupification of the American sheeple, we will never see another nuclear power plant built in America.

windmills and spinning
Submitted by jon_torlin on Mon, 03/14/2011 - 1:02pm.
Instead, they'll have to rely on windmills(the conventional kind, not the big ugly 75 foot blade kinds) or bicycle spinning for several hours to generate enough power to charge their cellphones and laptops for at least half an hour's use.
Or you could do it the quick way and just jam a lightning rod on the top of your Volt and drive into a lightning storm. It worked for Doc Brown and Marty McFly.

New power plants

Construction was started recently on two new reactors at the Vogtle Plant in Georgia. They are scheduled to go online in 2016 and 2017.Blorg, I would not be to sure

Blorg, I would not be to sure right about now. This still is not approved by the U.S Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Although Obama said he would give 8 billion for the project, he, and knowing him he will bow to liberal pressure, can very well withdraw that support and teh NRC can deny. It is far from a done deal at this point.

Case in point

Case in point, the illegal moratorium on drilling for oil. They did it regardless of what the courts said and used the BP disaster as the reason.

BWAHAHAHA!Question

I see this just about every day. Did you really expect anything like full disclosure or even the truth from George Stephanopoulos or Chris Mathews? What planet do you live on? These two are the leading (DNC) propagandist for the Obama administration, they have swallowed so much of the Kool-Aid I don’t think they are capable of seeing the truth. Save yourself a lot of amazement, just assume everything you hear from them are half-truths, imagination, or lies it will do wonders for your blood pressure (it has mine).Joe Cirincione

Unfortunately, Fox News has also had Joe Cirincione on as an expert. He appeared on C-SPAN on Nov. 20, 2007, and made this claim:“We were told [the Iraqis] had a nuclear weapons program, and if we didn’t take action, they might give a bomb to Osama bin Laden. We now know that it wasn’t true. No program. Nowhere close to a program. No intention of having a program.”
Of course, this was a falsehood. David Kay, who originally headed the Iraq Survey Group (ISG), delivered his Interim Progress Report to Congress in October 2003, he indicated that Saddam had never given up his desire to have nuclear weapons:
"With regard to Iraq’s nuclear program, the testimony we have obtained from Iraqi scientists and senior government officials should clear up any doubts about whether Saddam still wanted to obtain nuclear weapons.
"They have told ISG that Saddam Husayn remained firmly committed to ac-quiring nuclear weapons. These officials assert that Saddam would have resumed nuclear weapons development at some future point. Some indicated a resumption after Iraq was free of sanctions. "
Charles Duelfer, who replaced Kay, came to a similar conclusion a year later. According to the Washington Post, Duelfer’s report concluded that Saddam “‘aspired to develop a nuclear capability’ and intended to work on rebuilding chemical and biological weapons after persuading the United Nations to lift sanctions.”

Morons, the white house isn't on alert because they are cluelsss, why should this problem be handled any differently from any other crisis obama have been involved in. Obama doesn't like big windmills, he prefers the small personal ones that are attached to a beanie. What? No Context?

If Cirincione actually thinks there is a possibility of a Chernobyl type event in Japan, he is no nuclear reactor expert. There are just too many articles available to disprove Cirincione's claim. ABC must have been more concerned with igniting fear of nuclear power than presenting an expert opinion.
There is something sinister going on for so many in the MSM to be this eager to spread bad and exaggerated information to foment unwarranted fear. Who exactly is set up to make billions or grab power with the manipulation of this crisis in Japan? I'm sure the usual suspects, like Sorors will rise to the top like scum.
Meanwhile, the real tragedies in Japan are down played by the MSM in comparison to their nuclear alarmist promotions The question remains....How low will they go.
