Dem Congressman Fumes: 'F**k the President,' All Three Networks Ignore

By Scott Whitlock | December 10, 2010 | 13:33

Thursday's network newscasts and Friday's morning shows all ignored the report that an unidentified Democratic House member muttered, "F**k the President" during a closed door meeting on a compromise over taxes. Yet, many journalists professed outrage when Congressman Joe Wilson yelled "You lie" at President Obama in 2009.

ABC's The Note website on Thursday afternoon explained, "An unidentified Democratic lawmaker let slip his frustration at President Obama’s proposed tax compromise, apparently muttering "f**k the president," during a heated debate this morning."

Yet, when GMA reporter Jon Karl covered the story on Friday, he reported more sanitized details of conflict: "...Yesterday, you had the House Democrats actually chanting, 'no, we can't' at a private meeting."

On CBS's Early Show, news reader Jeff Glor followed a similar track, allowing, "And during the meeting, some Democrats chanted 'Just say no.' They insist on changes to scale back tax breaks for the rich." (This line was also quoted on Thursday's CBS Evening News.)

Over on NBC's Today, Kelly O'Donnell described House Democrats simply as "defiant." She added that opposition on the left to the deal was, "a liberal rebellion against the White House over the tax cut compromise." The only possible hint of an expletive used against the President came when O'Donnell referenced a visit by Joe Biden to Capitol Hill. According to O'Donnell, this "only stirred up emotions."

On Thursday's Nightly News she deemed the conflict a "family feud."

In contrast, on September 14, 2009, five days after Congressman Wilson's outburst in front of Congress and Obama, Face the Nation host Bob Schieffer derided the Republican as "just one ugly sign of the mindless meanness that has settled over our politics."

On the September 15 Sunday Morning, commentator Nancy Giles condemned Wilson: "That’s the voice of Representative Joe Wilson of South Carolina, not some drunk at open mic night, calling the President a liar."

Obviously there's a difference between an unidentified representative and a nationally televised embarrassing moment, but what if this mystery representative had been a Republican?

And Justice Alito mouthed, "not true."

Submitted by Gary Hall on Fri, 12/10/2010 - 1:57pm.

Interestingly enough, Justice Alito and Rep. Wilson were telling the truth. The MSM went viral with the shrill reporting - and to this day, they will still bring it up in their daily effort to paint R's as mean ugly people.

When CA congressman Pete Stark stood in the chamber of the House and in a drunken stupor attacked President Bush, claiming that he was sending our boys to Iraq to get their heads blown off for his own personal amusement, the MSM was silent.

LA Times front page headline story today is about the angry Democrat meeting yesterday - not a word about the several "F" words hurled towards the POTUS. Their guy - their party - must be protected by the MSM at all costs; that is the bottom line.

Alito silently mouthing "not

Submitted by Jer on Fri, 12/10/2010 - 8:18pm.

Alito silently mouthing "not true" was understandable and defensible; and the media's reporting of it was appropriately subdued.

Joe Wilson's juvenile and churlish outburst was outrageous and inexcusable, as was the conservative media's attempt to justify it.

With respect to this incident, I am sure it wasn't the first time a Democratic or Republican politician has muttered 'F the President' during a private meeting, nor will it be the last.  The distinction between this episode and Wison's antics is obvious and dramatic.

Clearly the Democrat congressperson in question is RACIST and only hates Obama because of Obama's skin color.

I challenge anyone to prove this was not racism.  If the Democrats don't confront this, then they are all silently condoning the racist remarks and should be tarred with the same racist brush.  Just like they did with the Tea Parties.

Submitted by ThisnThat on Fri, 12/10/2010 - 2:12pm.

The comparisons with Joe Miller and Justice Alito (Thanks Gary Hall) are really, really important to anyone that has a shred of doubt over the total bias of the MSM. Every single one of these MSM bastards needs to be brought up on charges of "1st Ammendment Violations" and imprisoned. They are doing great harm to this country, IMO, because they have become so untrustworthy as to be dangerous. We simply can't believe anything they say anymore. Anything!

They know all about it but deliberately step on it.   They tell themselves that they would gladly report on it if they only had a name to attach to the comment.    They are journalists you see so they must verify it was actually said then give the alleged commenter a chance to rebut.   Without that then it wouldn't be ethical for them to put out wild accusations without corroboration.   It all makes perfect sense.

This is indeed big news and should have been told on network news.  However, Wilson shouted out liar in a very formal setting which was televised and was very public.  He is of course right but the setting is the issue; I think Wilson did the right thing no matter what.  What Cheney said was a personal matter between two men and it was not in a very public setting/arena.  And Alito only mouthed the words and kept the decorum.

In all cases the people who said these things are right and teh nets need to acknowledge it.

What is the story?  Someone said something?  We don't know who, but we know there is dissonance in the Democratic party.   Where's the recording?  How do we know if happened if there is no proof of it happening?

Whether or not it's newsworthy is one issue.  Comparing this closed door comment from an anonymous Democrat to the very public outburst during the president's speech is a whole other issue, one that is incomparable to me.

But apparently some news organizations thought the outburst was newsworthy and the fact that it happened behind closed doors is the only reason we don't know the name of the rep that opened his/her mouth. Personally, it doesn't surprise me that someone said this -it was corroberated by Rep. Shelley Berkley (D)- I can't imagine it doesn't happen often regardless of who occupies the White House.

The purpose of NB, remember, is to note when liberal news organizations skew the news- in this case, suppress it. Not a big story? Clearly. But worthy of mention? Debatable. Had it been a Republican who either said it or been the recipient of it, I suspect it woud have received greater coverage. Denying that is useless -we all know it to be true.

Yesterday of course I watched my Bills beat the Browns.  Suck on that, Jake.  3-10 never felt so good.  Then I had to rake and sweep - the damn Santa Anas blew every last leaf in the neighborhood into my backyard.  What a crunchy mess!

You're kidding, right? Are you trying to convince us that if we don't have a recording; if we don't know if it happened because we have no proof -- that the MSM should keep mum about it because, therefore, it's not newsworthy???!!!

Tell that to the MSM who is still reporting about the Tea Party person who allegedly yelled something and spit on a black congressman. There is no proof. There is no video. There is no one who can identify anyone who did this. Therefore, it's not newsworthy, right? But yet -- BOY, is there a story! Repeated often by the very same MSM whom you think should ignore the F**k obama comments.

Well, I'll tell you what. Someone offered $100,000 to anyone who could collaborate the Tea Party story -- and so far, no one has come forth. Try offering $100,000 for collaborating the congressional dim story -- and you'll be paying off tomorrow.

I do wish you would be consistent in your outrage there, ADK. It's embarrassing having to correct you all the time.

A question for the resident NB liberals:

Submitted by bkeyser on Fri, 12/10/2010 - 5:16pm.

Why are House Dems and some Senators so outraged by the White House not holding fast on a 4.6% increase in the tax rate for individuals earning more than $200k? Seems like a minor issue given the grand scheme of liberal politics. It's not like Barry had a sudden aversion to killing unborn babies. It's not like he's decided to agressively call out Muslim extremeists. It's not like he offered to have lunch with Sarah Palin to discuss a new cabinet position. And it can't be the faux argument about the deficit or they'd be demanding a tax increase for everyone. Can anyone explain this?
