Half a decade after observing the fifth anniversary of the Monica Lewinsky scandal, "Good Morning America" correspondent Claire Shipman filed a report on Monday's show that commemorated ten years since the event. Shipman used the January 21 piece to take a swipe at Lewinsky-gate figure Linda Tripp, snidely labeling her "that questionable, tape-recording friend" and pointing out that she "has remade her face and her life." After observing that Tripp has since opened a store selling Christmas trinkets in Virginia, Shipman mused, "Atonement? Simply irony? Who knows?"

During the fifth anniversary segment, on January 16, 2003, this same GMA reporter appeared dismissive of the Lewinsky scandal. She claimed, perhaps hopefully, "It may be, especially in this newly-sobered world, that the Lewinsky episode, as riveting as it seemed at the time, will have little lasting impact, will be little more than a memorable footnote in our political life." A similar tone pervaded Shipman's report on Monday when she described the event as the "national political episode that a decade later, and in a post-September 11th, Iraq-dominated world, seems surreal."

The ABC correspondent closed her segment by noting that Monica Lewinsky has finally reclaimed some of her belongings from the investigation, but doesn't know what to do with them. Making a connection, Shipman solemnly lectured, "I guess, much in the same way as we're just not sure what to do with that year of our political lives." In 2003, she appeared even more blunt, likening the intern sex scandal that almost brought down the Clinton presidency to "a bad acid flashback." At one point during the fifth anniversary piece, Shipman demonstrated her distaste at covering a story that had such negative ramifications for the Clintons. "Our stomachs lurched as the bottom dropped out of our national political life," she breathlessly lamented. (To read the entire transcript of that story, see the January 17, 2003 CyberAlert.)

A transcript of the January 21 segment, which aired at 7:42am, follows:

DIANE SAWYER: And now, Monica Lewinsky. Believe it or not, it's been a decade since one of the biggest political sagas in U.S. history began. The world has changed a lot since then and so have the key players. And GMA's senior national correspondent Claire Shipman decided to look back at how much. Claire?

CLAIRE SHIPMAN: Diane, you know, everybody involved in that chapter has said, at one point or another, they'd like to forget about it. Well, some have had more success than others. It's a national political episode that a decade later and in a post-September 11th, Iraq-dominated world, seems surreal.

BILL CLINTON: I did not have --

KEN STARR: We have experienced people working on all expect aspects of our investigation --

SHIPMAN: Hmm, we should be able to move on, right? It's been ten years, after all. Some of the players have. Paula Jones, whose accusations led prosecutors to Monica, has tried hard to lie low. She's remarried in Arkansas, selling real estate. And Linda Tripp, that questionable, tape-recording friend, has remade her face and her life. She, too, married again, a high school sweetheart. They sell Christmas notions in Virginia. Atonement? Simply irony. Who knows? But it doesn't help a scandal's burial when the wrong spouse is making a run for the White House.

TODD PURDUM (National editor, Vanity Fair): I think what's unclear yet is whether the presence of them both on the national stage and the thought of him back in the White House as a spouse will ring bells in people's minds that make them think about things that they hadn't thought about in a while.

TYRA BANKS: Hillary Clinton, come out here right now.

SHIPMAN: And Hillary in her more emotive mode these days, opened up uncharacteristically about those dark times to Tyra Banks.

BANKS: Were you embarrassed? I would be embarrassed.

SENATOR HILLARY CLINTON: Well, sure. I mean, all of that. You know, you're mad. You're really upset. You're disappointed. All of that goes through your mind.

SHIPMAN: One person remains remarkably fixated, bringing up the subject even when nobody asks.

BILL CLINTON: Ken Starr spent $70 millions and indicted innocent people to find out that I wouldn't take a nickel to see the cow jump over the moon.

SHIPMAN: Speaking of, Ken Starr is dean of the law school at Pepperdine University, but he's not shying away from Washington. He's had a few cases before the Supreme Court. And that other person at the center of the storm --

PURDUM: I think it's proved hard for her to get on with her life in way that other people have been able to get on with heir their life.

SHIPMAN: Monica has spent the decade making purses, making money on a silly relationship reality show, making fun of herself on "Saturday Night Live."

MONICA LEWINSKY: Well, I did have phone sex with this one guy, his name really doesn't matter.

SHIPMAN: And these are making good with a degree from the London School of Economics. But she's told friends not only is it impossible to date, she can't get a job. The Clinton connections are so pervasive, most firms are afraid to hire her. And do you know, Monica, recently, just recently, Diane, after ten years, got some of her belongings back from investigators. They sit in a box along with that blue dress in an anonymous storage unit. She's not really sure what to do with it all. I guess much in the same way as we're just not sure what to do with that year of our political lives.

Why attack Linda Tripp? Why??

So she opened a store in Virginia. Apparently when someone makes a Democrat look bad, they are forever banned from the process of making money.

Feminists

One of the most ironic consequences of the entire Clinton fiasco was the reaction of the so-called "feminists". Their silence was deafening, yet it spoke volumes. All their B.S. about sexual harassment went by the wayside and it continues to this day. So many women, including Hillary,  ignored Bill's behavior for political reasons. What a crock. This is near the top of the long list of  things which evince "liberal" hypocrisy. Another post today talks about conservative "dogma" which they say ignores realities. Ironically, the feminist "dogma" does just that. The Clinton "affair" demonstrated the reality of  "liberal" lies. Unfortunately for them, it was, in so many ways, a moment of epiphany for most Americans.

NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"

They hate linda tripp for one main reason

Linda Tripp is seen by the media as a symbol of their inability to defend Bill Clinton. The media defintely hate Linda Tripp, but they absolutely LOATH Matt Drudge for breaking the story in the first place.

Little footnote in history

Little footnote in history Shipman...one word...

Impeachment...

You whiz-bang you....

Touche!

Touche--you nailed it, BT!

NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"

shipman and tripp...and clinton: federal crime

Down real memory lane....Ms. Shipman, perhaps your memory is impeded by your Clinton bias. So, let us go to the fact book: When  Linda Tripp came forward (do you remember why?), she has already been trashed by all the Clintonista attack dogs and needed some proof that she was telling the truth. The Clinton response? They took a White House person who had press connections and placed this person in the Pentagon; this person quickly leaked Tripp's federal file (a federal crime) to their press connection...seems  Tripp had been arrested (and released) as a teen or young 20. Voila...more attacks and attempt to discredit and stifle the truth. Result? Not only did the Pentagon Clintonista not get charged with a fereal or any other crime...he got promoted. Try that on for size, Shipman!! Note...Will give you more data ASAP

And she didn't NEED to

And she didn't NEED to mention it on her application, because it was a nonexistent arrest, having been purged...but that means nothing she says can be trusted now.

The Clintons, on the other hand...lied through their teeth, but that's all "old news".....

Wait

Wait a minute! What about this THROBBING LOVE AFFAIR that the media, the left and the dems (all one and the same) have with these so-called Whistle Blowers?

Oh thats right: When the tale is on the Right, it was done by a Whistle- Blower, but when done to the Left, it was a Weasel or a Snitch. Sometimes we forget how fair, unbiased and centrists are the MSM. NOTE: See the Sacred Heart Poll!!!!!!!!

Tripp, clintonistas and Shipman: addendum

Tripp got $595,000 fron DoD for their crime in allowing her federal personnel file to be leaked; Tripp had already been trashed in MSM by her testimony wrt Kathleen Willey and Travelgate...remember, Tripp had worked in the White House. Lewinsky wanted Tripp to commit perjury; Tripp passed a lie detector test as to veracity of Lewinsky tapes..and so it went. Of course the MD clintonitas put her on trail for making the tapes...she walked on that one and rightfully. I cannot recall the name of the White House toPentagon person who leaked the personnel file...Kenneth ??I think...anyone out there remember??

Drudge Report is here, because you "drive byes" tried to bury

Monica...LMAO Oh Drudge btw IS making MORE money than you.

Drudge now gets 14- 20 MILLION hits a day.

Keep drivin; bye bye ...drive bys.

I'm going to surf over to Tripp's shop and BUY something.

Ahh ain't the internet great!

iranian uranium; iranian uranium, iranian uranium..

Oh joy to the world, 19 more atomic power plants!

Claire has no doubt sucked-up

Claire has no doubt sucked-up enough now to the DNC to be considered Hillary's newest best friend, or Hillary's oldest, dearest friend- whatever. At any rate, Claire has confirmed that she not only missed numerous core classes in college, but missed most of those on objective reporting and ethics.

Well, Claire, the way I see

Well, Claire, the way I see it is this...it's far better to have told the truth and now be operating a small business in Virginia than to spin for the Clinton Crime Family and remain just another whore in the ABC "News" brothel.

addendum to shipman and clinton and tripp

here are the Clinton-Pentagon people...The former officials, Kenneth H. Bacon, a Pentagon spokesman in the Clinton administration...who worked at WH and was transferred to Pentagon to leak Tripp's file...and Clifford Bernath, who served as a deputy assistant secretary of defense, are entitled to ''qualified immunity'' as federal officials acting within the context of their jobs...interesting as it was a Clinto-appointee judge who made this decision and, years later, the DoD was forced to pay $ 595,000 for the same crime.

DR. R... Excellent

DR. R...

Excellent post...

If it had been the other way around when it came to what bow-tie Bacon did to Tripp the republican would of been forced to immediately step down and most likely had charges brought against him.

This is off topic but I wonder who Billy Dale and crew are going to vote for? I know who they are not going to vote for....lol.

Btw..it really isn't a laughing matter and don't mean it to be that way...what Hillary did to these people is and was criminal...period.

Assume the position

Who does this Clear Shi*head, er Clair Shipman think she is anyway.  Don't forget to take your kneepads with you when you leave, Clair.

It's all emotion

"Our stomachs lurched as the bottom dropped out of our national political life,"

I'm continually faced with the fact that for liberals, reality is defined by one's emotions and not objective facts. It doesn't matter that the president was potentially exploiting a young impressionable intern for sex (most of would be fired for screwing the interns), or lied about it when testifying in a case regarding his sexual conduct with other government employees. What matters is how the left FELT about it all. They felt bad, therefore it must have been bad and without substance.

How can the reins of government be handed to these clowns?

Great question, Tom22

"How can the reins of government be handed to these clowns?" Great question, Tom22.  If Hillary gets the nomination, your question needs to be asked ---over and over again.

NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"

The funniest thing I saw...

I'll never forget during the California wildfires, when Gov. Arnold grabbed Claire by the arm and said ,"no matter how much you want to make the story up about not having enough aircarft to fight the fires, we do have enough but they can't fly because of the weather". I thought it was great...

Unfortunately, that's about

Unfortunately, that's about the only thing that socialist sell-out creep has done right in California since 2005.  Can we get another recall?

What will Shipman do for atonement?

I didn't realize Claire Shipment was an ordained Catholic Priest in judging what type of penance people might have to do in exposing an adulterous rapist Bill Clinton in sexying a young girl in Monica Lewinsky.

I would like to know what Claire will be selling for all the dead Iraqi's, Americans and Muslims she has in propaganda been a part of..........oh that's right she sold her soul to the devil long ago to get her cushy job ruining America daily.

Interesting to note Shipman puts things in terms of a "bad acid flashback"..........sort of tells the story what little Claire does for illegal drugs.

Be nice to the Newsbunny!!

Poor Claire...she probably thinks that Valerie Palme is a tropical Christmas tree (oops...sorry, tropical Holiday tree) and Joe Wilson is Dennis the Menace's neighbor.  For if she knew who they really were she would obviously have to admit to the double standard of MSM coverage of whistleblowers (based upon the perhaps false assumption she would know what a double standard is).  So be nice to the Newsbunny for they eternally hop along a trail in that magical Wonderland where what is, isn't and what isn't, is.

Hey, have you heard about the Newsbunny that yelled to another Newsbunny she saw across the river asking how to get across the river?  The other Newsbunny said "You already are across the river!!!"

Bay... ROFL... Great

Great post!

Thanks BT

Thanks BT!!

That E-E-E-E-E-Evil Linda Tripp

What an awful, evil thing Linda Tripp did, reporting sexual harassment in the workplace by a superior who was old enough to know better.  If she ever sees a crime being committed or a building burning or a person injured, next time she'll know enough to mind her own business!  </sarcasm off>

When you put the clowns in charge, don't be surprised when a circus breaks out.
