CBS and NBC Morning Shows Ignore Dem Embarrassment Over MoveOn Ad

The morning shows on CBS and NBC both ignored the embarrassment and discomfort that a new MoveOn.org ad, which vilifies General David Petraeus, is causing Democrats running for the White House. While "The Early Show" and "Today" failed to cover the print advertisement from the liberal group, ABC’s "Good Morning America" at least briefly addressed the subject. The ad in question wondered if four-star general David Petraeus would "betray" the U.S. and also accused him of "cooking the books for the White House."

GMA co-host Robin Roberts took pains to discuss the advertisement, which appeared in the New York Times on Monday, in neutral terms. She claimed it simply "caught everybody’s" attention and caused "a lot of reaction." Explaining the political ramifications, ABC's George Stephanopoulos went further. He asserted the MoveOn ad puts "Democrats on the defensive" and "in a bit of a bind." The "This Week" anchor also provided a reason as to why Democratic '08 contenders haven’t rejected the advertisement. He explained, "They want the support of MoveOn.org, so you saw the presidential candidates saying, ‘Well, we don’t like what they said,’ but they wouldn’t repudiate it."

It’s worth repeating that CBS’s "Early Show" and NBC’s "Today" entirely skipped the subject of Democrats distancing themselves from the MoveOn.org ad.

A transcript of the brief discussion of the MoveOn ad, which aired at 7:13am on September 11, follows:

Robin Roberts: "I want to ask you something about an ad that caught everybody’s, a lot of people's attention. It was in The New York times. It was placed by the liberal group MoveOn.org. In the ad, it says, ‘General Petraeus or General Betray Us, cooking the books.’ That got a lot of reaction from both sides of the aisle."

George Stephanopoulos: "Boy, it sure did. And it really put Democrats on the defensive yesterday. You had 30 Republican senators signing a letter calling on the Democrats to reject the ad, to repudiate the ad. There’s going to be a resolution introduced in the House today to do that as well. And it put the Democrats in a bit of a bind. They want the support of MoveOn.org, so you saw the presidential candidates saying, ‘Well, we don’t like what they said,’ but they wouldn’t repudiate it."

How do we elect this idiots

I went home early yesterday to watch the hearings.  The only conclusion I can to was that just 30 minutes of the hearings should be required watching for ALL registered voters.  Regardless of where you fall in the political spectrum (I am assuming you can at least think) the questions asked by our elected representatives were inane at best.  Usually during these type hearings you have two sets of political hacks--one asking non questions and the other giving non answers.  But both Petraus and Crocker were professional, polite, and prepared.

I really think this could be a turning point where the uninformed average American starts to see that MoveOn, CodePink, etc are not for Peace and Harmony, but vicious organizations bent on domination.

You can bet your Bippie

You can bet your Bippie (pardon me for dating myself) that if an organization had run an ad in the NY Times, calling all those who aid and abet illegal immigrants traitors, there would have been a trail of smoke and burned rubber leading up to each and every Republican candidate, with journalists demanding that they renounce it.

The negative reaction that

The negative reaction that ad has generated has the left and the msm in total spin mode if they aren't just outright pretending it never happened.  I think this ad coupled with the positive news from the General's report and the embarrassing display of dem leaders in the hearings will be a turning point for the average American and the msm is going to be exposed for its coverage that conflicts with the facts on the ground.  I would also look for that ad to be seen again in any political race where the dem opponent has not condemned it for being the disgusting attack it was.

I hope people get the key point about this

These BDS Lefties have shown their hand.  They have pre-judged Petraeus' report before even hearing it.  This is not the only time they have done this either.  It actual fact, their prejudice has repudiated their irrational* anti-war position.  In poetic irony, have betrayed themselves!  We can only hope enough people recognize it.

*note: not all anti-war positions are irrational, but the one taken my moveon.org and most of the Democrats is.

}}---> Full page ad

I wonder what would be the response if somebody took out a full page ad in the NYT with the words.

18 SCHOOLBUSES STOLEN IN HOUSTON...YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!

Reckon Oprah's minions would come out of their collective trance?

Time to play WIARHASI????

Why is it when some liberal group spews this kind of garbage, Democrats are allowed to get away with this kind of BS answer, and when a conservative group says something unpleasant, or "offensive" so some group or other, every Republican, from the President down to the local Alderman is called upon to denounce it and say they will never take another penny or endorsement from that group??

When the resolution comes up in the House, undoubtedly the Dems will do a "Free Speech" tapdance, and get away with it.

Why are the Democrats so good at this???? And why do Republicans continue to fold like a cheap tent?????

AAAARRRRGGGH!!!!

It has to do with something

It has to do with something called a conscience... the self awareness that playing dirty tricks is wrong.

"That got a lot of reaction

"That got a lot of reaction from both sides of the aisle."

Amazing, how they attempt to neutralize a story regarding a controversy caused by the Left.

Good point, Chris. I

Good point, Chris. I notice he didn't say what the "reaction" was on the Democrat side. Before anyone asked them about it, that is. And apparently, even after, that there wasn't much.  They only addressed it when forced to.

mb, You can bet, had

mb,

You can bet, had the ad been from the Right, the language she used would have been much more specific and descriptive.

Fear of MoveOn.org

And notice that Stephanopoulus couched the passive Democratic reaction as "Needing MoveOn's support."

The truth is, none of them wants to anger MoveOn and become the target of MoveOn's vitriolic attacks, like happened to Lieberman.  They fear MoveOn.

As MoveOn claimed a couple of years ago, they own the Democratic Party.  But it's an ownership akin to Hitler's ownership of Germany --- anchored on Fear.

 Dimocrats have no sense of

Dimocrats have no sense of embarrassment or irony for that matter.  Moveon DOES own the dims, lock, stock, and barrel.  I say, let them eat themselves. The more they weaken themselves the easier they will be to pick off.  Starting now,  conservatives need to man up and start hammering these folks relentlessly,  own THEM for a change,  make THEM explain themselves, constant hammering by the pols and by us, take it to them.  Write the editors of your local paper,  call your representatives and tell them to man up,  even the women.

start hammering these folks

Good point. Every Republican candidate, at every opportunity should be asking for the Democrat candidates to say that they won't take money from MoveOn...

Good grief,  Clinton thinks Obama shouldn't take money from David Geffen, because Geffen criticized HER (apparently saying she is "ambitious and polarizing" constitutes a "vicious attack." LOL) Republicans could have a field day asking why she would then take money from an organization that called a traitor a four-star general in the service of his country.

Now we need to coinvince the Republicans to quit playing pattycake with the Islamocrats.

Democrats Agree!

It should be obvious, the Democrats are happy with the Moveon ad.  Had any right-wing organization paid for a full page ad, in the Washington Times, questioning the patriotism of the Democrats, not only would they condemn it, in force, but would require the Republicans to do so also.  They would have the support of the media, who would continuously bring up the ad and the Republicans failure to repudiate it.

We always talk about the double standard, but is there any further proof it exists?  I can't imagine the NY Times taking my fake ad in the Washington Times, because they would have found it too offensive, however they gladly printed moveons' ad.

One thing that should happen, and I just don't know how it will, is people should express outrage to the NY Times and their congressman for not speaking out.  At least the dems would know people are watching what they say, and don't say.

Never argue with an idiot.  They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

The Dems aren't embarrassed

The Dems aren't embarrassed about the discount ad from MoveOn.org in the NYT. They love it whenever one of their proxy mouthpiece organizations like MoveOne.org (or any of the George Soros controlled groups), Daily Kos, Huffington Post, Code Pink, and any other extreme leftist groups go well "over the top" in their moonbattery. The Dems disingenuously show shock and disgust for the media to pander to their centrist voters but privately (as has been shown in several eyewitness accounts) are delighted whenever attacks are made on Bush, conservatism and anything else that is in opposition to their leftist agenda.
