Contessa Brewer: Bible = Prop

  • Bookmark and Share

MSNBC’s Contessa Brewer really has something against the Bible. Or maybe it’s just a convenient way for her to paint conservatives as nuts for her liberal viewers.

During an August 3 interview with Politico’s Josh Kraushaar about the anti-ObamaCare protests occurring in town hall meetings across the country, the anchor took two opportunities to portray the Bible negatively.

To Brewer, these disruptions could only come from the crazy right-wing fringe. “You know, I do get the – that there are some people out there who are far out. If you’re at a forum on health care, and somebody’s holding up a Bible and saying it’s the only truth, you have to wonder what does that contribute to how we get health care for all people?”

Yes, you have to be pretty “far out” not to buy the “health care for all people” line. But as a student of history, Brewer understands that democracy can sometimes lead to unpleasant scenes.

“… On the other hand, Josh I think back, and from what I’ve read about the way our Founding Fathers came up with the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and even deciding whether to revolt against the British, a lot of that was done with a lot of anger and a lot of shouting in closed rooms.”

Still, the kooks shouldn’t be allowed to stand in the way of progress, and Brewer offered her a solution to lessen the disruptions.

“Well, maybe the thing to do is to preempt” she said. “If you see someone walking in with a prop – a birth certificate, say, or a Bible – then maybe you preempt it and go, ‘What are you here to accomplish? What’s your goal?’ And then let’s go from there.”

Even better, why not make the Christians wear a red “C” or a yellow cross so they’re easy to identify?

In calling the Bible a prop, Contessa Brewer used it as a cudgel against citizens who dare question the socialization of their health care.

Gee, I don't know...

"If you’re at a forum on health care, and somebody’s holding up a Bible
and saying it’s the only truth, you have to wonder what does that
contribute to how we get health care for all people?”

Could it be that, for years - since the inception of Christianity, really - Christians (often nuns and brothers and religious orders) regularly and cheaply staffed medical facilities, providing care and treatment to the poor and those otherwise unable to pay.  Lots of religious people interpret the Bible to command the free will charitable care of the poor - not something to be forcibly compelled by the government.

And thanks to the government meddling mandating all sorts of procedures, and tort laws requiring gazillions of dollars in malpractice insurance, it's made it all but impossible for religious orders to do this work.  Also - given the open hostility toward religious teaching which prohibits such procedures as abortion, IVF, sex changes - it makes it even more difficult for people to get actual life-saving treatment from a charitable source.

What was it she said again?

“Well, maybe the thing to do is to preempt” she said. “If you see someone walking in with a prop – a birth certificate, say, or a Bible – then maybe you preempt it and go, ‘What are you here to accomplish? What’s your goal?’ And then let’s go from there.”

Or just kill them. Whatever. Let's go from there, huh?

Uh, yeah. Unlike Brewer

Uh, yeah. Unlike Brewer holding up Das Kapital as a prop.

Yeah, and allowing obvious

Yeah, and allowing obvious Code Pink whackos into Congressional hearings is just fine.

Why not a qur'an?

Why not a qur'an?

Aren't these the same people that let kids die because their parents believe in scientology?  Put a big a on Brewer. After all, she is an ass.                 Patriot & Proud!

Not giving props where props are due?

How utterly silly these peasants are!!  Don't these clueless prols know that the only acceptable fashion accessory is a paperback hand-held copy of "The AudASSity of D'ohpe" to show their allegience to the One and Only Savior from the mankind-threatening, planet-ending menace we now face.

Help us O-Barry-One, you're our only dope---er, um---hope!

Enough said.

Prop....

so...

All the lefty wackos who show up at any publicized event screaming "Free Tibet" or Code Pinkos who attacked Condi Rice over the war in the middle of an unrelated meeting...those people are not going off topic?

Commieessa Brewer

Perhaps the coomie Contessa would do well to research the meetings of the Continental Congress. Bibles dominated the scene as the whole proceedings! If it were not for the actions of the hated Christians, this little ingrate would not being able to denegrate those who carry their Bibles today!

I can just imagine what this little wench would have said if these people were carrying the Quiran! "Isn't it wonderful that these people can feel free to address their grievances before such an institution", she would exclaim!

Well, baby doll, you can insult me all you want because names will never hurt me but keep your Commie hands off my BIBLE and my guns! Otherwise I will treat you to a little "Change you WILL believe in!"

Is this the slut who doesn't mind being called a slut?

Holding Up A Bible?

So everybody in the audience is a kook because one person is very expressive of their religious beliefs?

This is just the Marxists attempting more propaganda tactics upon their viewers who are all at least leftward leaning. No one else is watching that channel so maybe they're just shoring up the base? Naaaaaaa, they really thing other people are watching. What a hoot!

Yep, that Contessa is a

Yep, that Contessa is a real whiz-kid with her daily propaganda for msnbc....I posted about this yesterday twice in different places.

She must love getting her daily pat on the head and lolli-pop...after-all, she is nothing but a sucker.

How dare Contessa....

“If you see someone walking in with a prop – a birth certificate, say, or a Bible – then maybe you preempt it and go, ‘What are you here to accomplish? What’s your goal?’ And then let’s go from there.”

I'm not going to just sit here while Contessa bad mouths former President Bill Clinton in that fashion.

You could tell from the worn cover and tattered pages that the 10 pound bible Clinton displayed proudly for the cameras was not just a prop to overcome his scandal with Lewinsky.  How dare Contessa insinuate that!!!

acumen... Great

acumen...

Great catch...

It's another fine example of 'do as we say...not as we do.'

I am getting sick and tired of being told what we can do or so anymore by the leftists...the fear and intimidation tactics they are using is outrageous in this country...the WH wanting people to tattle on other people, via emails, posts, websites etc regarding O-Care, it won't stop there....this is full throttle intimidation now.

How the heck dare them....I have had my fill of all of them.

LOL BT

Oh!  So Contessa wasn't referring to Bubba's use of the Bible as a prop?  :)

My bad.

Yeah, establishment media hypocrisy never ends.  That's the bad news. The good news?  Job security for the MRC/NB staff.

  Didn't Contessa get run

Didn't Contessa get run from the Don Imus show for being such an air head. I seem to remeber her leaving the set in tears one day as they unmercifully tore into her for being such an idiot.

Courage is not the absence of fear, it's the mastery of it.

Prop?

"if you see someone walk in with a prop...bible...preempt, and go from there".

First of all, my Bible is NOT a prop; it's My Bible.  If some knucklehead wack job wants to try to take it from me, we can "go from there", but I can guarandamntee you will NOT like where you're going, because you're going down, and hard!

Idiots! Her mom shoulda taken her to Sunday School once or twice.

Maybe someone should ask

Maybe someone should ask Brewer what she's there to accomplish.

Brewer doesn't seem to

Brewer doesn't seem to realize her opinion is not news.  Expressing her opinion on air in the context of a news broadcast is not journalism, it is editorialization.

That being said, Brewer's comments are testament to how narrow her circle of aquaintances and experiences are.  She feels these people are using the Bible as a prop.  They couldn't possibly be devout Christians who actually read the Bible daily.  Brewer probably is not aquainted with anyone in her personal life who reads the Bible at all, much less daily.  To Contessa Brewer, such people do not exist.  Therefore people appearing at a town meetiong with a Bible can only be fakers and the Bible a mere prop.    Other explanations of Brewer's thinking are possible, but they are much less complimentary to her integrity, so I will leave them as an exercise to the reader.
