Chick-Fil-A Publicly Acknowledges It’s Conservative, Media Upset
When the head of a major fast food chain underscores his support for traditional marriage, lefty heads explode. Dan Cathy, son of Chick-fil-A founder S. Truett, told the Baptist Press on July 16 that his father's restaurant chain is, in fact, still conservative.
In response to a question pertaining to the franchise’s support of the traditional family, Cathy replied “guilty as charged.” The president and chief operating officer continued, “We are very much supportive of the family – the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that... we know that it might not be popular with everyone, but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles."
He reiterated his stance on the Ken Coleman radio show the next day. “As it relates to society in general, I think we’re inviting God’s judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, ‘We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage. I pray God’s mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think we can try to define what marriage is all about,” he explained.
Naturally, the Huffington Post, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, and Advocate.com were among the many that were upset by the comments. Boycotts are now being organized, buzz is flying around the blogosphere, and people are leaving heated messages at both Chick-fil-A's and Cathy’s Facebook pages.
Huffington Post contributor Lorraine Devon Wilke wrote an article ironically titled Chicken with a Side of Bigotry, Chick-Fil-A’s Ungodly Business Plan. “His stance against gays and lesbians is not only distasteful,” she said. “It is stupidly counterproductive to business, and what could be holier than the bottom line?” she wrote.
Post food writer Tim Carman, who once pledged to stop buying Godfather’s Pizza because of his disdain for Herman Cain, created a poll to see who would join him in a boycott. The overwhelming majority of the respondents clicked the ‘everyone is entitled to their own opinion’ option so far.
This wasn’t the first time that Chick-Fil-A has been criticized for its conservative outlook though.
It has been promoting Biblical values since it first opened in the Atlanta area 66 years ago. This is best exemplified by its closed policy on Sundays and philanthropic efforts.
Pro-gay groups have been claiming that the company donated almost $2 million to what were labeled “anti-gay groups” in 2010 by its charitable arm called the WinShape Foundation. The Marriage & Family Foundation received the bulk of the funds, but the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Christian Foundation, and Family Research Council received sizable sums too.

Gore has stated many times that the high levels of man-made CO2 turns normal people, who would otherwise be decent Liberals, into extreme right-wing wacko Conservatives, who talk about nonsensical values, such as marriage between one man and one woman, God, and Country.Consequently, we can easily reduce the number of Conservative wackos by reducing CO2 gas, and booting Rush Limbaugh off the airwaves.. It's that simple.

Why?
Have the utterly spineless and PC-infected Erick Erickson, Allahpundit, and Ed Morrisey actually taken over NB now?
What?

We should monitor such activity closely. Disqus comments are acting strangely right now.

While I haven't seen Dave's comments about this, what little I have read on disqus when I come to work and take a few minutes to peruse NB, Ugh, I'm sure glad I don't see that crap on my smartphone.
I still think it's a bad idea to go with disqus and it's proving itself out already. If someone's been deleting comments outside of the NB moderator control, that should be enough reason to discontinue it.
As for Chick-Fil-A (to steer it back to topic at least), I was going to make dinner tonight, but I think I'll do that instead. The one in my town is across town from where I live, but I think I can live with that inconvenience if it means pissing off liberals who want to boycott it.

The deal with Disqus right now, Guys
Submitted by Blonde on Thu, 07/19/2012 - 9:23am.
As you see, comments may be "flagged" in Disqus, which throws them into a moderation queue. This may be a problem, as libs can flag conservative comments into "limbo" until someone reads the moderation queue.
This is where there is a bit of good news. Yours truly, and Aca, are now Disqus mods. We can also put trusted posters on the "auto approve" list, which should negate the lib flags. Having said that, some of you get a little frisky when it comes to bad language.....so govern yourselves accordingly. If you see an inappropriate comment (see terms of service)....vulgar language, excessive name calling, etc., flag the comment. I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't flag appropriately worded comments with which you disagree or which are blatantly idiotic (LOTS OF THOSE!!!)...everyone is entitled to an opinion, even if it's wrong! When we get linked by Drudge the comment queue goes insane, as you've seen, the Lopez & Volt comments were way north of 2,500.
At some point, I think Disqus will be a "closed" system, i.e. no "guest" comments without registering. This may help.
Since the 2nd hack job, I can't tell if anyone is modding the regular NB comments or not. I would think not, unless it is Matt himself, and I know he doesn't have time to read comments while he's trying to fix the hack. NB is in basic lockdown mode right now. So the missing comments may just be a glitch in the system, or lost as changes are being made behind the scenes.
Hang in there, fellow NB'ers.
And just think, we have lots of new liberals to sharpen our teeth on. But please, keep it clean and funny!
[Edit] Dan....the "Disqus comments acting funny"....sometimes it takes a minute or two for them to queue up into the story. Unless you get flagged, then you have to wait until I find it to unflag it.]

I think that would be the appropriate venue to address the questions NB'ers have about the changeover.
There's a recent comments thing on Zippers, but I don't think they use Disqus. The comments here come fast and furious, so I'm not sure how much utility that would have, unless there are twenty comments in the list.
Best bet, check your "recent activity" in your Disqus profile. Or turn on your e-mail notification to replies in Disqus.

I can see the disqus stuff just fine if it's a regular website. But everytime I go to NB via smartphone, it redirects to the mobile site (designated by address starting off with m, like m.newsbusters.org) and there's no way to go to the "full site."
I don't know enough to get around that. Most websites have an option to be able to do that.

"His stated reliance on his interpretation of the Bible to justify robust homophobia"
Let's deconstruct Mrs. Devon-Wilkes argument here. We'll start with the word homophobia. The definition of homophobia - "intense fear or hatred of homosexuals or homosexuality." Mr. Cathy made no presumptions about homosexuals, made no derogatory statements towards homosexuals, and never made any statements that included a condemnation of homosexuals. Yet to Mrs. Devon-Wilkes, stating a view equates to phobia or hate. So now, we have a justified stance to turn this around and lay at her feet that she is phobic and hateful towards those who attend to religious beliefs that are counter to same-sex marriage. If she denies this, not only can we point to her criteria of what constitutes a phobia but it is further accelerated by her use of demeaning name-calling (Neanderthal, intolerant, uber-zealot, bigot).
Onto the aspect of interpretations of the bible: Mrs. Devon-Wilkes portrays Mr. Cathy as one who takes the Bible out of context. I'm going to quote Romans 1:
"24 So God let them go. He allowed them to do what their sinful hearts wanted to. He let them commit sexual sins. They polluted one another's bodies by what they did.
25 They chose a lie instead of God's truth. They worshiped and served created things. They didn't worship the Creator. But he must be praised forever. Amen.
26 So God let them go. They were filled with shameful longings. Their women committed sexual acts that were not natural. 27 In the same way, the men turned away from their natural love for women. They burned with sexual longing for each other. Men did shameful things with other men. They suffered in their bodies for all the twisted things they did.
28 They didn't think it was important to know God. So God let them go. He allowed them to have dirty minds. They did things they shouldn't do.
29 They are full of every kind of sin, evil and ungodliness. They want more than they need. They commit murder. They want what belongs to other people. They fight and cheat. They hate others. They say mean things about other people. 30 They tell lies about them. They hate God. They are rude and proud. They brag. They think of new ways to do evil. They don't obey their parents. 31 They are foolish. They can't be trusted. They are not loving and kind."
Nothing that Mr. Cathy can do on this Earth will stop sin. Rest assured, Mrs. Devon-Wilkes, homosexuals will not be stopped from doing what they want to. The reason why our world is separated from God is because of man's decision to turn away from him. It is the few, like Mr. Cathy, who want better than what is seen on this Earth that turn to the Bible. If you want to aruge about interpretations of the Bible, feel free to tell me how that scripture can be interpreted any other way than how it is written.
Finally, your condemnation of Mr. Cathy as homophobic brings great injustice to the word. To those who are beaten, murdered, and persecuted for being homosexuals, you have ultimately disgraced them. Differing beliefs and adherence to those beliefs does not equate to hatred. This is a simple point that you fail to grasp.
