The Denver Post printed an article on July 30 highlighting the possible selection of Mitt Romney as a vice-presidential running mate with John McCain. While focusing on several obvious areas in which Romney may help the ticket, the Post simply couldn't resist a few subtle jabs directed at the former Massachusetts Governor.
Making a personal assessment that Romney sometimes comes off as being aloof, and citing his membership in a church that some consider a cult, was simply not enough. Reporter Karen E. Crummy (I will resist the puns) practically salivated at the prospect of using those observations as talking points for the Democratic Party. (Emphasis mine)
He is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, considered a cult by some evangelical Christians and Southern Baptists. Despite his central-casting good looks, he often comes across as aloof. And he and McCain taunted each other in the primaries, which could be exploited by Democrats.
Just another demonstration of how the MSM would like to remind their readers that Romney's religion does in fact, matter.
Surprisingly enough, I conducted a search on past Denver Post articles involving Barack Obama, and none of them included the phrase:
Barack Obama is a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, considered racist and anti-American by right-minded individuals everywhere.

Critters like Crummy never
July 30, 2008 - 16:31 ET by bigtimerCritters like Crummy never stop...ever.
The only reason they do this, and there can only be one reason is they are terrified of Romney running with McCain.
We all know no mater who he picks that person will be trounced as much as possible by the leftists in the msm, but for some reason they have a visceral hatred for Romney it seems...and he isn't even as conservative as I would like.

The media will only allow
July 30, 2008 - 16:56 ET by Kenny BunkportThe media will only allow debate on the following issues under these conditions:
Religion - only concerning Mitt Romney.
Race - only concerning people who aren't voting for Obama.
Gender - wide open now that Hillary is out of the race.
Military - only concerning John Kerry.
Age - only concerning John McCain.
Experience - not an issue in this election, not debatable.
Family and acquaintances - only concerning John McCain and Rudy Giuliani.
Etc, etc....

Is that supposed to be bad or something? The MSM rags cannot seem to have enough aloofness when it comes to their messiah.

Romney's Mormonism
July 30, 2008 - 17:50 ET by deerjerkydaveI read an article recently that tried to say that Evangelicals wont vote for McCain if Romney is the VP. While it may be true that a number of bigoted evangelicals would vote this way, a lot of evangelicals still voted for Romney in the primaries if you look at the exit polls.
I think most Evangelicals
July 30, 2008 - 18:03 ET by Kenny BunkportI think most Evangelicals have figured out the "Lesser of two evils" regarding this campaign.
Of course, there will be some that remain rigid on the issue. They will be the ones the media will showcase as speaking for the whole.

Romney and evangelicals
July 30, 2008 - 18:17 ET by nkviking75As an evangelical, McCain has my vote. Obama would be a major disaster as president. But McCain has had a history of taking shots at evangelicals. And Romney is perceived by many as a flip-flopper on abortion and gay marriage. I also think Romney should have distanced himself from the "bigoted evangelical" meme. In the Iowa Caucuses, 60% were evangelicals. Romney got 19 percent of their vote. If there hadn't been an evangelical candidate, I believe he'd have had a lot more.
When you put the clowns in charge, don't be surprised when a circus breaks out.
Of the few
July 30, 2008 - 19:19 ET by deerjerkydaveOf the few evangelicals who are scared to vote for a Mormon VP, do you think they would be more scared of BHO's church in a matchup? Or would they just not vote for either candidate?
I am a Latter-day Saint (Mormon) BTW.
well deer
July 30, 2008 - 20:01 ET by candanceI'm an evangelical but I can't speak for those who refuse to give Romney a chance based on religion.
As long as someone believes in small government, religious freedom, national security, family values, and preserving the Constitution...I don't care if they believe purple monkeys fly around on Mars.

Ain't gonna happen. McCain
July 31, 2008 - 14:35 ET by Clear thinkerAin't gonna happen. McCain is going to piss off a lot of people with his choice for VP, and the most likely to get pissed will be conservatives.
His choice will shock almost everyone, so stay tuned.

I can't see Pawlenty, nor Crist.
Romney is the only one who makes sense to me, although I saw Mike Hukabee shilling on Fox earlier.

I don't know, you two
July 31, 2008 - 15:02 ET by BlondeI know McCain disdains real conservatives, but I think he's already enough of a democrat to know that Lieberman as his VP choice would be totally unforgivable.
I see him making Lieberman SecState or somesuch in his cabinet, though.

really Blonde?
July 31, 2008 - 16:10 ET by candanceLieberman as his VP choice would be totally unforgivable.
During the primaries conservies said the way he treated Romney was unforgiveable. And giving a speech on global warming with Arnold was unforgiveable. And dumping on Bush was unforgiveable.
Now most of the people on NB are voting for him irregardless as "a vote against Obama."
Face it, he could slap his own mother on live TV and most Republicans would vote for him to toe the party line.
Good points, all, Candance
July 31, 2008 - 16:20 ET by BlondeAlthough the way he treated Romney during the primaries (they are primaries for a reason), and "dumping on Bush" (he's been the President's foe for a long time, and just because he supported Bush's GWOT doesn't mean he's Bush's pal) doesn't quite fall under "unforgivable" for me.
I was enthusiastically for McCain in 2000. Still for him (or against Obama, your pick), but enthusiasm doesn't enter my mind.

I don't care who he picks, I'm voting for Barr
July 31, 2008 - 20:35 ET by GameGridI voted for Romney in the primaries but even if he's the VP for McCain, I can't bring myself to vote for McCain, so I've decided on voting for Bob Barr. I could care less about the party, it's about the principles and I disagree far less with Bob Barr on everything than I do with 'McPain'. It's too late for John to win me over now, as he would only be pandering and not actually talking conservative values from the heart. Honestly I don't expect him to pick Romney anyways and I'm not optimistic that it will be someone truly conservative.
