CNN Tries to Make Monkeys Out of God's 'Christian Warriors'

In last night’s installment of the six-hour, three-part series God’s Warriors, CNN reporter Christiane Amanpour loads the deck to portray conservative Christians as dangerously at odds with science. She first uses an interview with maverick Rich Cizik of the National Association of Evangelicals, who has been criticized by many Christian leaders for his embrace of man-made Global Warming theory as fact, then turns to a family of homeschoolers.

Here’s a partial transcript:

AMANPOUR to CIZIK: You're saying it's the science that led you to this conclusion, whereas some of your fellow evangelicals, those who criticize your position, say it's the precisely the science and their suspicion of science which cause them to doubt and to reject what you're doing.

CIZIK: Yes, because, historically, evangelicals have reasoned like this: Scientists believe in evolution. Scientists are telling us climate change is real. Therefore, I won't believe what scientists are saying. It's illogical. It’s an erroneous kind of syllogism. But is that what's been occurring? Absolutely.

Wonder if CNN would agree that Christians are “poor, uneducated and easy to command,” too, as a Washington Post reporter described them famously a few years ago? Do monkeys like bananas? Skeptics point to rival scientific theories; they don’t trash science itself. There is no balance presented from any theologians, Intelligent Design advocates or scientists who contend that science has not proven beyond doubt either Darwinian macro-evolution or man-made Global Warming.

Amanpour then interviews the Nevarrs, a home-schooling family from Virginia, who come across as intelligent and sincere. But she zeroes in on their opposition to the teaching of evolution as fact, followed by this loaded account:

AMANPOUR (voice-over): God's warriors have fought the teaching of evolution in the schools and in the courts many times over the years. The most notable recent case was in Dover, Pennsylvania. The fight was over the theory of intelligent design, which maintains the universe is so complex, there has to be a master architect. The Dover school board said it could be taught. But opponents charged it was just creationism in disguise.

STEPHEN HARVEY, PLAINTIFF'S ATTORNEY: Intelligent design and religiously-motivated attacks on evolution have no place in our public school science classrooms.

AMANPOUR: And in December 2005, a judge agreed.

Amanpour then turns to Eugenie Scott, who directs the National Center for Science Education and, in Amanpour’s words, “monitors the creationist movement.” Scott talks about how some teachers skip teaching about evolution because of “the perception that evolution is very controversial.”

Now, check out this transition:

AMANPOUR: At the Nevarrs' house, the lessons continue.

Editor’s note: Those poor, poor children. The viewer is led to believe that they are being miseducated. Perhaps something should be done about this pesky home schooling movement ….

Bible vs Science

Amanpour was so biased in this section. She didn't want to bother to interview any Christian scientists or demonstrate how the Bible has been ahead of science for centuries.

Perhaps she needs to read the Bible where it says "God looks down on the circle of Earth" and ask why people ever thought the Earth was flat. Or read where is says "Life is in the blood" and ask why doctors used to bleed people in hopes of getting rid of their diseases.

Willingly Ignorant

They never talk to any credentialed person, on any topic, who disagrees with their slant because they're not after knowledge or even a reasonable debate...they're pushing an idea.  The subject varies from topic to topic, but the idea is the same - Conservatives are ignorant, backward and evil.

Unfortunately for them, they are the ignorant ones; and they keep themselves ignorant by dismissing everything that doesn't support their view.  They claim Conservatives do this, but the facts tell a different story.  There are tons of examples of this, but the most recent one is the fact that Al Gore has yet to show up for a real debate on APGW but avoids it with the obviously erroneous statement that "the debate is over."

Amanpour's program was a blatant hit piece....

....against Christians and the right wing.

A few examples:

In the Muslim section she downplayed extremism and violence.

In the Christian section she exaggerated extremism and violence.

She turned a large segment of her program into a Jimmy Carter-led indictment of the right.

She equated long skirts on Christians to full cover burkas on Muslims.

She spent significant time pitting the religious left against the religious right, with the left getting warmer, more preferential treatment.

She treated home schooling as extremism, even asking a young boy if he felt "funny" about it. (he said no)

She made dark warnings about what could happen to the Supreme Court if Democrats don't win next time.

Then, just to drive her points home, she concluded the piece with dark music to accompany young Christians giving testimony.

Amanpour you ignorant slut!

Yes, because, historically, evangelicals have reasoned like this: Scientists believe in evolution. Scientists are telling us climate change is real. Therefore, I won't believe what scientists are saying. It's illogical. It’s an erroneous kind of syllogism. But is that what's been occurring? Absolutely.

Actually that's not a syllogism which is a form of reasoning in which a conclusion is drawn (whether valid or not)  from two given, or assumed propositions that each share a term with the conclusion.

However here's a doozie one presumes Rich Cizik made!

1. There has been an increase in the amount of "greenhouse gas" CO2 in the planet's atmosphere due to mankind.  2. The temperature of the planet has increased. Therefore , 3. This rise in the Earth's temperature has been caused by mankind raising CO2 levels.

You see how this syllogism thang works!! Good huh?

Check out my latest YouTube...but only if you support the troops and their mission: Better Men Than Me/The Battle For Fallujah

Ahhhh, the MSM

They form a conclusion based on their closely held beliefs and then proceed to make a "series" and edit the interviews to agree with their already decided conclusion.

Is that not the ultimate Syllogism?
