Has the US media turned a completely deaf ear to actual events in favor of a warped view on what they wish to occur in Iraq? It would seem so. Ever since it became apparent that the miltiary 'surge' strategy was succeeding in Iraq, both the media and the Democratic Party have been complaining that the poltiical benchmarks in Iraq were not being met. in particular, they castigated the Iraq civilian leadership for failing to make strides in rteaching out to the minority Sunnis and releasing political prisoners.
However, it was announced over the weekend that Iraqi leaders had reached agreement on releasing thousands of political prisoners. They also agreed to reform the law keeping many ex-Baathists out of government jobs. Since this agreement was one of the main points that the media and the Democrats in Congress have been complaining about, one would think that this news justified inclusion on the front page of American news outlets, wouldn't one? And one would be wrong.
The Washington Post chose to put the news on Page A9. However, they did better than the New York Times, which as of this morning had no mention of the event at all. As reported by Captain Ed Morrissey over at Captain's Quarters, even the United Kingdom's BBC and the Guardian managed to report the event, and neither of these media outlets is any friend either to the United States nor to the campaign in Iraq.
The United States media should be ashamed of themselves, both for failing to report on (or trying to bury) an event that they have long been calling for and for their stubborn refusal to report anything that might make the Democrats' desire to drag the United States to defeat in the war against Islamic terror more difficult. that the anti-war, anti-American BBC and Guardian managed to report on it should make the American media even more embarrassed. This raises the question- does the US media care more for helping the United States win in Iraq, no matter who is President, or are they more interested in a Democratic victory in November 2008? based on thier performance so far, one would be justified in suspecting the latter.
Hat tip to Captain's Quarters.

I wouldn't hold my breathe,
August 27, 2007 - 11:30 ET by dscottI wouldn't hold my breathe, if they are mum about 1998 not being the hottest year, which goes against another pet agenda of the MSM, then any good news out of Iraq will be equally ignored and downplayed. The MSM is not a journalistic in their approach to the news, they are propagandists for Socialism, Libs and Dems. In fact, give them a week and they will spin the Baathists being kept out from power as Shiites keeping Sunnis from sharing power, just like they pulled with 1934 being the hottest year, now the they moved the goal post to the century instead.

You're kidding. "Shame" for the Democrats, and the MSM who are also are Democrats? Besides, the liberals have all but eliminated any sense of "shame" from our society. If it feels do, do it, or say it. "Shame?" What the heck is that?

Success in Iraq. To a liberal Dem it's like sunlight to a vampire.
They feel the burning, shriveling death that's coming.

ONE flower mill?
That's a sign that the surge is working?
The death toll from sectarian violence is nearly double now from what it was last year and you're going to point to some small flower mill being as a sign of progress?
Sort of ignoring the elephant in the room aren't you?

How was I supposed to know you wanted me to read the entire site?
I would have thought you might have picked a better example, you know, like stats showing decreasing violence.
Oh wait, those don't exist.
You can't post a link and then tell me I'm a jerk for interpreting the link you posted.

Clear...once again the troll derails
August 28, 2007 - 12:49 ET by LionKingThe troll clearly derailed the topic by intentionally ignoring the progress. When the truth is not pleasing to liberals, they seek out negative anywhere they can find it.
Suppose the war-related deaths are up...is the US to blame? Let us put blame on the people actually doing the killing. Furthermore, I wonder if the liberals have any idea what would happen if the US left. Some of the Democrats have figured that out...that's why they could not fulfill their campaign promises to pull out of Iraq -- they lied to gain power. At least they did not sacrifice the well-being of the Iraqi innocents to achieve their power grab.

Leon, can I be of some assistance? You do know these two words are different, don't you?
Simple and Plain
Nuts. Stats mean jack.
August 28, 2007 - 12:35 ET by pbanks7The death toll was significantly up during the Battle of the Bulge, and we won. The death toll goes up when you are fighting battles. Imagine that.
Ignorance is bliss. It's easier to repeat a mindless slogan than to do some actual research.
Don't be a clown...
August 28, 2007 - 05:58 ET by Sua Sponte 75Infrastructure efforts have been going on for quite some time, you probably wouldn't know of them if you only get your news and information from the MSM, which reports zero on what's going on here, all except for bad stuff (oh my bad stuff happens here!). CA missions and training the locals at self reliance have been going on for quite a while and are very productive. Something you won't see reported in the MSM is the fact that the infrastructure here has been decimated well prior to our arrival or involvement. Individuals who don't have an understanding of the environment here nor it's history think that this place is or was just as comparable to a Europe or America and that we've somehow thrown it off balance, those type of people are mearly clowns at best. Now as far as the surge, for quite a while all you would hear is the whining and hand-wringing grandmas screeching about U.S. casualties and how there needed to be more involvement by the Iraqis'. Now that they are leaning forward in the foxhole (meaning they are taking more roles) and holding themselves accountable and securing footholds, all you hear is whining. For crying out loud, the nuts are never satisfied. The surge is working, has been working and well if you just can't believe a troop, easy fix....cowboy up, get on a plane and come over. Many are reporting and have been, the strides that we've made here, problem is these sites are conservative in nature and the reporters are actually embedded with the units, unlike most of the MSM who does their reporting from a balcony in the Green Zone of the IZ and get their stories from stringers, most often third and fourth hand. No one can force anyone to believe, especially when they have an utter disdain for the administration. Either way, the wet dishrag wrists will find something to whine about.
