The Media's War Against Dick Cheney
Dick Cheney has begun a media tour to promote his memoir, "In My Time," with excerpts of his NBC "Dateline" interview showing up on Wednesday’s "Nightly News" and Thursday’s "Today." If history is a guide, Cheney will face a liberal media that has been stunningly hostile and derisive in their coverage of the former Vice President.
Prior to his selection as George W. Bush’s running mate in the summer of 2000, the liberal networks generally treated Cheney — who served as White House chief of staff, Congressman and Secretary of Defense — as a respected Republican leader. But the media turned on Cheney as soon as he joined the Republican ticket, portraying him as an extremist who was “anti-equal rights” and “against education” — even distorting his vote on a non-binding resolution as a vote “against releasing Nelson Mandela from prison,” as if the U.S. House had such power.

After September 11, 2001, the networks channeled liberal displeasure with Cheney’s strenuous anti-terror agenda, and the far Left unleashed venomous assaults on Cheney — casting the Vice President as a “terrorist,” “a goon,” and a war criminal. After a suicide bomber attacked the base in Afghanistan where Cheney was visiting — leaving the Vice President unharmed — HBO’s Bill Maher argued: “I’m just saying if he did die, other people, more people would live. That’s a fact.”
The Media Research Center has compiled the most noteworthy examples of the media’s venomous coverage at MRC.org accompanied by audio and video excerpts where noted. Here are a select few of those:
“When you talk about votes like that, that he [Dick Cheney] made while in Congress — anti-affirmative action, anti-abortion, anti-gun control, anti-equal rights — how does George Bush portray him as a compassionate conservative?" -- Today co-host Matt Lauer to Tim Russert, July 26, 2000.
“I read you once took a psychological profile test, and it said the position you’re most suited for is undertaker.” — ABC’s Claire Shipman to Vice President Cheney in an interview shown August 31, 2004 on Good Morning America. [MP3 audio]
“There are those who believe that Dick Cheney has led this administration and this President down a path of recklessness, that maybe his approach, his dark approach to this constant battle against another civilization, is actually the wrong approach for ultimately keeping America safe.” — NBC White House reporter David Gregory during live convention coverage on MSNBC about 8:30pm EDT on September 1, 2004 about two hours before Cheney spoke. David, you ignorant slut. "his dark approach to this constant battle against another civilization, is actually the wrong approach for ultimately keeping America safe", what alleged civilization would you be referring to, David? It certainly can't be Islam, there is no civilization there. And, it would seem that America was kept pretty safe, up until a recent spate of terrorist attacks. I wonder, could that have happened on the watch of one who dreamily espouses his admiration for the muslim call to prayer?
We know this won't be about Mr. Cheney's book, it'll be about whatever talking points the liars on the left get from the White House, and from the heads of the alphabet networks.
Again, why?

Why would he waste his time and set himself up for total bashing from the media? Am sure he will sell many books without all the hate and lies that will come from these radicals. Imagine the fools at bsmbc are all getting geared-up to try and ruin him and and his book.
Cheney loves the attacks from the media

He's never struck me as the type of individual who seeks praise and publicity. He likes wielding power, and he can wield more out of the spotlight than he can in it.
Cheney wants potential readers to know that his book is available, and controversy helps sell books.
Personally, I don't care for him. My dislike for him began when he was Secretary of Defense, and never waned. He's just another dark lord of the Beltway, getting rich and helping his pals get rich.
Cheeeeeney as spittles calls him

Actually heard that fat bastard race hustler Sharpton mocking Bush again............ for his sitting there after the plane hit EVEN THOUGH Andrew Card, said there WAS NOTHING he could do at that time as the Helo's were not ready to grab him yet.
That is why Bush stayed calm until he was notified and did not scare the bleep out of the children.
Maybe he should have jumped around saying OMG, OMG, we are being attacked so 10 years later we could count the number of children from the group who have "issues" or worse, killed themselves over the "issues".
I saw that. Disgusting.

The intensity of hatred for President Bush and Vice-President Cheney is unreal.

With all the caring, compassion and love the libs have for children, would have thought they were pleased with Bush not to get them all scared, after the terrorist attack even though, they believe in abortion and partcial birth abortions for all who want it and also, to be paid for by tax-payers. The problem is, libs have no compassion for anyone except themselves.
Dick Cheney can handle himself

...with these media clowns. He always has. The nastier they are to him, the dumber they look.
The man is a great American. I was happy when McRino named Palin as his running mate, but I was ecstatic when I heard that Dick Cheney was on the ticket.
The fact that he had a resignation letter ready to go, due to his health and the nebulous replacement criteria for his position as VP, speaks volumes as to his character and doing the right thing for his country rather than for himself.
I'm looking forward to reading his book.
P.S. His wife is brilliant, as is their daughter Liz.

What is with these Republicans?

Knowing or at least I think they know that NBC is the lead cheerleader and nemesis of conservatism and the Republican Party why does Vice President Cheney do his interview for his book there?
What is with the GOP going on the Larry, Moe, and Curly national networks? Is there some fit of hubris that they believe they will go on and weave such a persuasive argument that the viewers of these networks will instantly run out and change their party registration?
Every time a member of the GOP shows up on these networks we help them destroy us by giving them a credibility they do not deserve. I guess making a few bucks means more to them.

He's 10 times as smart, informed, witty and intelligent as all the NBCer's combined.
And, yes, I also love Liz and Lynn.
Why Dick Cheney, who I greatly admire, would decide to give

NBC, the anti-Cheney, anti-Republican, anti-Conservative, anti-Tea Party network, the first interview, rather than Fox News, is beyond me. It's not that Mr. Cheney can't handle his biased liberal interviewer. But why give Democrat-supported NBC the prestige and publicity that comes from the interview?

That is very likely. Also, Rice has her book coming out and this all may be timed to help distract the press from their full court press of the Republicans running for President. After all, you can always count on the BDS to over ride the cognitive abilities of the media.

I am only concerned about Cheney's health, if that stays OK he can handle Norah Obamadonnel without breaking a sweat. As for the semi male weenies, he should invite them hunting. As I am old and it hasn't happened to me yet, I believe something happens to some of us which triggers a need communicate what ACTUALLY happened. A few decades ago I determined that lib/prog/comms were all subhumans and I would not wish for them to discover my tricks. I had expected to mellow with age, instead I have grown to despise the left for the damage they have done.
